Title: Re: Appetite For Destruction Voted #1 Life Changing Rock Album Of All Time Post by: stvyrayvhn on January 25, 2011, 01:47:30 PM Appetite was definitely a life changer as well as Lies. It just hit at the right time in my life as a 13 year old and a person really in to music... I actually bought the tape in late 87 because everyone was talking about it at school but I didn't know who they were. I guess the band just came through Providence, RI and a few of my friends older brothers went to see the band at some club. I listened to the tape a couple of times until the summer of '88. The summer of '88 was the best... SCOM was #1 or near #1 for most of the summer and we were listening to it a lot at the beach. 92 Pro FM in Providence would play the top 10 songs of the week like every hour. Def Lep and Guns were always back to back. Welcome to the Jungle finally got the recognition it deserved and then in the Fall Paradise City came out. Then Lies hit on or about Dec 8th while I was in Daytona Beach, FL a trip I would probably never forget, complete with gunfire, fights, alcoholics, and drug addicts... I bought the tape the day it came out in Daytona. good times. good times.
Title: Re: Appetite For Destruction Voted #1 Life Changing Rock Album Of All Time Post by: King Axl on January 25, 2011, 01:54:38 PM It certainly changed my life, especially as a 17 year old who was the target of bullying in school....I'd play "Out Ta Get Me" on my Walkman, and I'd get a sudden burst of bravado, not afraid to stand up to those who brought me down.
I still get an adrenaline rush from that song, and so many others on the Appetite album. It will continue to be a record that has an effect on many generations after mine. Title: Re: Appetite For Destruction Voted #1 Life Changing Rock Album Of All Time Post by: bolton on January 25, 2011, 02:15:12 PM in 1990 or so, friend of mine gave me a pop-dens-rock compilation. One of the songs was ''paradise city''...after that i bought afd and became a big fan of gnr and rock music....but never forget paris show broadcasting
Title: Re: Appetite For Destruction Voted #1 Life Changing Rock Album Of All Time Post by: D on January 25, 2011, 03:25:05 PM Thats why i love that Axl story on Eddie Trunk when he is talking about the Led Zeppelin song D'yer Mak'er. how he heard it, made fun of it, then by recess was passing out the lyrics.
thats how i was first time i heard SCOM. i hated it, was making fun of it and a day later I am buying the 45 vinyl and have been a fan for life since. Title: Re: Appetite For Destruction Voted #1 Life Changing Rock Album Of All Time Post by: zihuatenajo on January 25, 2011, 10:55:41 PM any one notice they have 1988 as the year of release? :hihi:

any one notice they have 1988 as the year of release? :hihi: awesome news though- of course it is!! ;D changed my life And 1992 on UYI and 1989 on Lies. Anyway, no surprise Appetite win this "competition". Even i didn't remember the 80's that good, and sure not the seventies, this have to be correct! Title: Re: Appetite For Destruction Voted #1 Life Changing Rock Album Of All Time Post by: One.In.A.Million on January 26, 2011, 02:50:40 PM I'm proud of this achievement, and this album did change my life.
Welcome To The Jungle is the song that basically got me through my teens, the album has been my saving grace. I'm certain it's the same for everyone else here too, the best F-U to bullshit people ever. : ok: Title: Re: Appetite For Destruction Voted #1 Life Changing Rock Album Of All Time Post by: JAC185 on January 26, 2011, 03:07:35 PM I do kind of feel that discovering that record has directly influenced my taste in books, films, even my approach to life. I'm not even aggressive or a drug-addled maniac, just the freedom and honesty of it really excited me and thats a trend through all my favourite things. Title: Re: Appetite For Destruction Voted #1 Life Changing Rock Album Of All Time Post by: LongGoneDay on January 26, 2011, 03:54:43 PM I got AFD and a walkman for christmas of '88. I had already heard Jungle, but remember walking outside our family Christmas party listening to WTTJ and It's so Easy, then rewinding and listening again. It's one album I have never grown tired of, no matter how I try.
Title: Re: Appetite For Destruction Voted #1 Life Changing Rock Album Of All Time Post by: Lord Stan on January 26, 2011, 04:13:53 PM To be honest, bigger influence in my life had use your illusion My first gig was in 1991 and AFD and some great bootlegs were the reason to go but UYIs really made it for me as well. But I was only a young teenager so that's why. Had I been a few years older it would've been a different story. Quite obviously AFD grew soon after :peace: Title: Re: Appetite For Destruction Voted #1 Life Changing Rock Album Of All Time Post by: Jdog0830 on January 26, 2011, 06:25:03 PM AFD changed my life!!!!!

An AFD remaster would be great! HDCD like all the Van Halen albums. It would be wonderful! Even though i already have a remastered SHM-CD of Apetite! Can't get much better than that Title: Re: Appetite For Destruction Voted #1 Life Changing Rock Album Of All Time Post by: One.In.A.Million on January 30, 2011, 08:37:32 PM Tonight I listened to Appetite For Destruction from start to finish, in it's entirety. And it made me really emotional, brought back alot of memories for me.
This album is my life, and will always be my saving grace. It made me think back to my teenage years, when it seemed like it was me against the world. Every song is just fucking amazing, and it's like God spinkled his touch all over it. Thank You Axl, you are my inspiration. Title: Re: Appetite For Destruction Voted #1 Life Changing Rock Album Of All Time Post by: Limulus on January 31, 2011, 06:45:42 AM An AFD remaster would be great! HDCD like all the Van Halen albums. It would be wonderful! Even though i already have a remastered SHM-CD of Apetite! Can't get much better than that get the MFSL or/and the 1st Japanese pressing (# 32XD-821) of "Appetite" . those are the best quality versions we have so far, both are superior to the SHM-cashmakers-only-versions. for re-masters i'd be very sceptical, there are tons of BAD loudness-war-re-releases these years, resulting in inferior products compared to the original albums. off course a proper transfered/edited/mixed 24bit version from the original AFD master tracks would be nice to get at a point. so are all the Proshots which seem to collect dust in the vaults only >:( |
