Title: What should be in a Guns N' Roses iPhone app
Post by: svdv22 on November 24, 2010, 04:16:08 PM
Let's say I'd make one. What would anybody want to be in it? Any ideas?
Also, how much would you max pay for it?
I'm not, in any way, trying to make money. However it'll cost me at least 100 euros and lots and lots of time to make an app ;-)

Wouldn't something like that have to get some kind of official approval to be sold?

Well since the official site isn't updated for a long time it's hard to say how you could update the app with news and stuff like that. Maybe you can include twitter account news/updates from all members? Guitar tabs for all CD songs? Multimedia section (videos, pics & stuff like that from the recent and upcoming tours)?

There's a bunch of ideas, but without the approval of the band there's no point in making one. : ok:

It could have news, videos and all sort of info about current members. Also would be nice to have details (who plays what) for each CD song. Tabs would be great too, it could be an e-book version of the Guitar Tab book already out.

One more thing: the official pinball machine emulated would be nice. ;D

I allow you to use parts of my posts as "quotes of the day"... People will pay for that.  :hihi:

I just want half the money made...

You're all right I can't release a guns n' roses app, however, I can release an app about guns n' roses. So, except for promotional stuff 'released' by the band I can't use anything they officially released.

Maybe you could do something like your website, like tour statistics. Or maybe lyrics, from all of Guns N' Roses albums. Or you could even do a bootleg guide, with information like version, quality, duration, year.

There is actually alot of stuff you could do.

(Oh yes, the virtual pinball machine is a must.)  ;D

How about this http://www.appbrain.com/app/masturbator-pro/net.teknoraver.masturbator but with "This I love" playing at the same time...  Sure to be a hit with the ladies  : ok:

You do realize making money off bootlegs is illegal? (especially when it comes to GN'R)

Everything Guns N' Roses except Slash.

Why do you presume I'm talking about creating a bootleg guide for selling, how about trading. The idea I was talking about is not much different to the idea surrounding this.

Some people trade bootlegs happily without making a dime.  : ok:

You're not getting my point.

He's gonna use the bootlegs and integrate them (their info, whatever) into the app and sell the app for money.

99% sure I'm not going to sell it.
Apple is never going to allow a bootleg guide, even for trading purposes, in the app store though. I liked some of your other suggestions though :)

But I see the idea of a bootleg guide more of an information source, rather than using something to make money that the band hasn't authorized. You could make the same case for including an app for GN'R lyrics, because let's face it, svd22 never wrote the lyrics, GN'R did right?.  :hihi:

So that's lyrics out the door, and that means we can't use guitar tabs either as Voodoo suggested, because svd22 never wrote the guitar parts, Robin and Bucket and company did right?.  :hihi:

So where do we stop?, if we went by your rules, there will be no point in making an app at all.  :P

Slight difference - bootlegging isn't approved by the band and therefore it's illegal to make money off it in any sort.

svd22 has already stated that he would not sell this app anyway, if he made one. And Axl has also stated in the past that he doesn't really mind bootlegs that much.

People trade bootlegs all the time, without the exchange of money, the way it should be. I suggested svd22 make an app with lyrics on it, maybe some guitar tabs, and a bootleg guide. Not a big deal, and I really don't know why you are getting your panties in a twist.

As long as there is no copyright infingment, or official GN'R media on the app, I'm sure it won't be no big deal. It's a bootleg guide, no videos, no selling, no links to sites selling, just a guide. What the hell's the problem with that, for people who trade GN'R bootlegs?.  ::)

Well anyway, as I stated earlier, svd22 has said he won't charge for the app if he made one. So I guess that's ok with you now, because it's not that different from going onto the internet with your i phone and going on that GN'R bootleg guide I linked to earlier.

You know what? As a heavy user of HTGTH on an iPhone, I would really love to browse the board in a more touch-friendly interface. That would be a really cool app and it would have everything jarmo and co. already made.

I know it's not really an app, but rather a mobile website. Still, it could work just like the Engadget app.

This will be my final reply on this issue.

You don't have to teach me how the trading world works. Been there, done that like a million times and I know how it all works.

How hard can it be to understand what I'm saying? If he's gonna make a app about GN'R bootlegs and sell it for money, that's illegal as is everything else when it comes to selling bootlegs. If he's gonna make the app and give it out for free he's not breaking any laws. It's simple as that.

I agree with you for the most part, but he is not going to sell it, like he pointed out earlier in the thread.  :D

You could make an app and present it to the GN'R camp... If it's good, see what happens...

Cheers

If that was to happen and with the consent of the band, obviously the app would have to have news in my opinion of the band and everything that goes around the members of the band.

But we have HTGTH for that, don't try ruin uncle Jarmo's business  :hihi: (joking)

Btw since we are talking iphone and GN'R - is there a GN'R theme for the iPhone? Or a theme creator so I can make one?

a few facts: sharing bootlegs is illegal, no matter someone sells it or just shares it. That's how it is where I live (Netherlands). Also sharing lyrics is illegal, you'll have to pay a small fee to do so (a couple of euro's per month) I'm not so sure about the guitar tabs as long as they were made by someone who gave me the rights to publish them, even if he/she didn't write the actual tune. But I'm not sure about that.

Christos AG, where can I see your quote of the day?
Also news is something useful to put into the app. As well as tour dates I guess.

Voodoo, I think waiting for an updated SMF is your best chance. I know MyGNR forum's already compatible with mobile devices. I'm sure every self respecting forum developer will eventually develop a mobile version :)

Fast forward to a few years later, and we're there:

http://itunes.apple.com/app/guns-n-roses/id518088479

Hope you like it! It doesn't feature any information about bootlegs, nor Christos' quote of the day ;-) But it still might be worth checking it out, it's free :p
