Title: Goes to show the kinda guys they've got in GnR now... Post by: LordRazZ on November 07, 2010, 12:09:02 AM Today, after my son was born, I sent out a quick message to any GnR member I could get a hold of.
When my first son was born, I demanded that a GnR song was playing when he came home for the first time. My wife gave me that with WTTJ So, for my second son, I figured what the hell, and sent out a msg to any GnR person I could think of. I figured I would let them pick....but who would answer, right? Ron, Axl, Frank, Del, Jarmo, DJ and even Mr. Adler got the same message. I definitely wasn't expecting a msg back. Maybe from J or Del, but not an actual member of GnR.... But here's what I got..... Ron Thal says: Congrats! I'd go with November Rain. (It's November....) Or maybe 'Don't Cry', hopefully the baby will listen and not keep ya's awake all night. That....right there..is class.... As I said to him in a follow up, it's pretty rare a father can look at his son down the road and say "I decided to play this song for you, from this band, cause their guitar player said it'd be a good fit" Ron's already sent me a second congrats email. But I figured it'd be cool to point out how nice he was to indulge a fan for all of 20 seconds, just cause it would mean a lot to them. Amazingly, most musicians wouldn't... So thanks Ron...and Axl...I'm still waiting for your vote....lol ;) Title: Re: Goes to show the kinda guys they've got in GnR now... My vote also goes with Don't Cry, the video kind of portrays a re-birth kind of feel. Most strongly represented with the first and last scenes, it's perfect. Post by: LordRazZ on November 07, 2010, 05:05:04 PM Well Ron said Don't Cry or NR, and Jarmo went for NR.....soooooooooo............
I'll just pick one when he gets here...I can't decide...probably Don't Cry...just cause Ron was so nice to reply..... But then again.......lol Title: Re: Goes to show the kinda guys they've got in GnR now... Post by: jarmo on November 07, 2010, 05:13:24 PM I was disregarding the lyrics of the songs when making my choice...
I just thought NR is nicely long... But now I realized maybe the ending is "too loud".... :hihi: /jarmo Title: Re: Goes to show the kinda guys they've got in GnR now... Post by: estebanf on November 07, 2010, 06:31:42 PM Ron is a great human being. I emailed him 3 times (one for a quick interview and 2 short messages of congratulations). He replied the three of them almost instantly.
I'm straight, but trust me Ron is the kind of guy I would hug A LOT, definitely. He inspires me hugging him ;D (*) (*) even though that evil beard scares the hell out of me :hihi: Title: Re: Goes to show the kinda guys they've got in GnR now... And I don't think the ending should be a prob....I mean.....I'll probably keep the volume low to begin with...haha.... Title: Re: Goes to show the kinda guys they've got in GnR now... Post by: 14 Yrs Of Silence on November 08, 2010, 02:05:58 PM Congrats Razz. I remember your avatar of your son biting a copy of Chinese Democracy when it came out. I remember because I stole the idea and took a picture of my own 8 month old son at the time doing the same thing! Now I also have a second son, he's 3 months old. So awesome of Ron to write you back, and so quickly too.
Title: Re: Goes to show the kinda guys they've got in GnR now... Post by: Nightrained on November 08, 2010, 05:04:53 PM Ron's cool and will reply. Was funny in 06 when the entire GNR fanbase was emailing/messaging him and he said to ease up sending them as it was effecting his guitar ability. :hihi: But, no he's a top bloke, met him twice. And congrats 8) Title: Re: Goes to show the kinda guys they've got in GnR now... Post by: John on November 08, 2010, 05:11:06 PM I have another 'Ron is the nicest guy on the planet' story, but I won't hijack this thread.
Will post in the memorobilia section in a couple of days with some pics. He sent me his CD, and autographed the fuck out of it. Really made my day. Title: Re: Goes to show the kinda guys they've got in GnR now... Post by: LordRazZ on November 08, 2010, 09:46:08 PM Alright.....Figured I would update with what I decided to play.
And yeah, the next album that comes out, my next son will be chewing on it....lol...I don't care if he'll be 12......he's grounded if he doesn't. Anyway, since my newborn Michael was named after my cousin who passed away at 32 after a heart attack (unnoticed heart defect), I decided on "You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory" from Spaghetti. I know, it's a cover, but it just seemed to fit. HOWEVER. After that was done I decided to go with what BBF said, and picked Don't Cry. BUT!!! I didn't pick one of the Illusions versions. I decided on the version from the supershow in Tokyo this year. That way, my son could hear the brilliant guitar player who was kind enough to reply to my message, and I would be able to sing it to him myself. Not to worry though. Jarmo was also kind enough to reply, so I honored him in a way as well. After I was done singing, I asked him if he liked Daddy's song. So when he started crying, I deleted his comment and banned him from Daddy's lap for the next 15 minutes......     All jokes aside, thanks to everyone for endulging me on this, and all the congrats I've gotten, from the GnR world. And to anyone thinking of doing what I did in the future, take my advice. Don't just go for the song you think sounds the coolest. Go for the one that has the biggest threat of bringing a tear to your eye. Axl and company have written some of the greatest music this planet has ever, and will ever know. Trust me, you'll find the right one. Title: Re: Goes to show the kinda guys they've got in GnR now... Post by: gunns1 on November 08, 2010, 09:55:07 PM Congrats man, but if you decide to have a third child, whatever you do, dont play Silkworms when he first enters the home,
the lyrics aren't very fitting towards the image of child birth anyway , right? (bad joke I know :P) Title: Re: Goes to show the kinda guys they've got in GnR now... Post by: One.In.A.Million on November 08, 2010, 10:13:42 PM Nice to know it went well LordRazZ. : ok:
Hearing a story like yours makes me all warm inside. It makes me think about how we GN'R fans are all connected through the music of Guns N' Roses. And it also makes you realise just how much the music has inspired each and every one of us and changed our life. I wish you nothing but the best with your children dude, thank you for bringing abit of warmth to the forum. ;) Title: Re: Goes to show the kinda guys they've got in GnR now...
