Hopefully they'll keep the kids off this thing. These reality shows seem to have a way of screwing up families.

Duff's daughter Grace has told twitter friends several months ago she would be on the show.

E! to launch new show 'Married to Rock'

Wednesday, October 13 2010

E! has announced details of a new reality TV series that will follow the lives of three rock star wives.

Married to Rock will feature the wives of former Guns N' Roses member Duff McKagan, Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell and Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens.

The show will revolve around the introduction of AJ Celi, currently in a relationship with The Cult's Billy Duffy, who hopes to become a "rock wife" during the course of the series.

"So many women have a fantasy about landing a rock star," E!'s Lisa Berger told The Hollywood Reporter. "We're raising the curtain on the rock 'n' roll lifestyle."

The show, which will have an initial run of eight episodes, is scheduled to begin on November 7.

Susan's bio from the show's site:

Susan Holmes

Her Rocker: Duff Kagen

In 45 RPM: The one with it all

The LP Version: Raised as the quintessential San Diego beach girl, Susan grew up to become an international supermodel. By the mid 1990s, she was one of the 10 highest paid fashion models in the world and earned millions over the course of her career. Good friends with the likes of Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell, Susan has strutted the runway for Valentino, Chanel, Versace, Dolce and Gabbana and Prada among others, and she has graced advertising campaigns for Yves St. Laurent, Fendi, Guess, Revlon, Karl Lagerfeld and Louis Vuitton. In 1997, Susan launched her own line of swimwear, and it has been a global sensation ever since, with Sak's Fifth Avenue, Henri Bendel, and Victoria's Secret all carrying her products. In 1999, she wed Guns-N-Roses bass player Duff McKagan. The couple has two daughters, Grace and Mae, and they own five homes?in Los Angeles, La Jolla, Seattle, Hawaii and a mansion on the Columbia River in Washington State. And as if that wasn't enough, Susan is currently working on her autobiography. Did we mention she has it all? Yeah, we did.

Since Duff's column this week in Seattle Weekly is about this show, I'll put it here:

The McKagan Family Business Is Booming, Despite Its Doubters

By Duff McKagan, Thu., Oct. 21 2010

I have been away to London on business all of this past week. From what I understand, maybe that wasn't such a bad thing.

Chris Kornelis posted a story here last Thursday about the fact that my sweet wife is a part of a new reality show on the E! network. I received some e-mails from friends on my Blackberry pertaining to some of the dark and mean-spirited comments that followed Chris' piece in the comments section. I also heard from Chris that a lot of you stood up for Susan and our family. Thank you. The comments were bad enough, though, that the Weekly was forced to take down the comments board.

Let me tell you a little story: Back in 2002, I was living happily in Seattle with Susan and our two babies. I was an ardent student at Seattle University, and our lives were pretty much nerd-filled and stress-free.

I had pulled back from a scary life of excess that had almost killed me, and with the help of my girls (Susan IS one of my girls), I was settling down to a life I thought I could never attain: peace and academia and good friends that I grew up with.

But almost suddenly and out of nowhere, the lure of a great rock band in Los Angeles reared its presence to me. It was a chance to play with Slash and Matt Sorum again, and there was a lot of excitement around what this thing could be. I HAD to try it. I don't ever in this life want to wonder "what if?"

But Susan got worried, and rightfully so. Would old demons haunt me in a city that had more than a pound of my flesh? Would I act on them? And what about the kids? It's a big thing to uproot a family and just go.

Susan had my back, though. She knew that she could not be the one to hold me back if my musical passion called. Our lives changed from the tranquil lakeside setting in Seattle to a constant adapt-to-chaos situation in Los Angeles. Susan kept our household stress-free and steady for our daughters and me the whole time--as things were really starting to get crazy all around us.

When I relapsed on pills after 11 years of sobriety, Susan was the one there for me. She nursed me through my sickness and withdrawal and sought education on addiction, as opposed to being pisse -off and judgmental. She had never known me when I was drinking and using back in the day.

With the rise of Velvet Revolver, Susan began to be approached by a few different TV producers with varying ideas. She was, after all, a top model, and now a top mom and swimwear designer. They thought that there was perhaps a compelling TV story or series in there.

This gave Susan the idea to write and create a scripted show. The things that she had experienced out there with the other wives in VR were just too good and almost juicy . . . and FUNNY. She had caught the TV bug and now wanted to create a show. She had created herself as a model. She had created her own swim line. She had created herself as a kickass mother. Why couldn't she create this show?

Ah, but scripted shows are not the big and easy money-makers for the networks. Reality shows are. The production costs are minimal in comparison to their scripted counterparts. Susan's show idea went from basically a screenplay to a reality show with HER as one of its "stars." Trust me, she doesn't see herself as a "star," and thinks the whole thing is hilarious!

But then there is me. I do not like reality shows. No, I actually despise what little I have seen and think that some of this stuff has really poisoned our perception of reality. But then again, I have a ton of male rock friends who watch this stuff and fucking LOVE it. I don't believe that there is a real place for "rock guys" on an E! show, and Dave Navarro will be the first to tell you that if he could have done it differently, he would have never done the "Carmen and Dave" show. He has had to claw his way back into legit musical circles, as he sees it. (I think Dave is just so good at what he does musically that NOTHING could ever do THAT much damage to him).

So then that day came--the day Susan asked if I would be on her new show "just for one episode, baby. PLEASE! I know that you don't like this stuff, but they want me to ride a motorcycle and I thought we could do it together?" The show IS called "Married to Rock," right?

Since we had both immediately decided that our daughters would NOT be a part of the show (that would go against our ethos of privacy for them and for any "celebrity" that they might come upon, which would be of their choosing AFTER THEY ARE AT LEAST 18! Grace of course was BUMMED--but I digress).

How could I say no to my wife? How DARE I? This woman who has backed ME and taken care of ME and believed in ME? No, baby, whatever you need from me, I will do (of course, within reason).

We both decided that showing me with any band I was in would be fucking tacky and seen as gross commercialism. I suppose Loaded could USE a little gross commercialism, but not of this sort.

People may love this show or hate this show, and likewise Susan's participation in it. I'm in it for a few seconds too, but blink and you will miss me. I am not in this life to judge or react too hard to what people say to me either on fan forums or here at the Weekly.

First and foremost, I am in the McKagan family business, and doing right to those whom have done right by me and stayed with me through it all. And business is booming.

Anyway whomever posted that you are a fake is 100% right on. You have been needed called out for awhile

Is Billy Duffy appearing on the show?

The season kicks off with Etty Farrell working on organizing the latest incarnation of Lollapalooza while weighing in on Josie Stevens? decision to re-tie the knot at the Hollywood Castle. Meanwhile, Celi, a VIP director at a Hollywood nightclub, pressures Duffy to walk down the aisle. And supermodel Susan Holmes McKagan struggles to get a new collection in her swimwear line ready for launch.

Susan Holmes McKagan ('Married To Rock')

November 20 2010

Ever wondered what it's like being married to a famous rock star? How to juggle a hectic touring schedule with your family commitments? Well, the brand new reality show Married To Rock - airing on E! - takes us behind the doors and tour buses with Susan Holmes McKagan (married to Duff McKagan), AJ Celi (girlfriend of Billy Duffy), Etty Farrell (married to Perry Farrell) and Josie Stevens (wife of Steve Stevens) as they give us a glimpse at their exciting lives. We caught up with Susan to find out more!

Congratulations on the new show!
"Thanks! I'm really proud of the show and I think it's light-hearted and fun. If you just hear the show, you might think one thing but when you truly tune in and see it you can see the full depth and layers involved there with us not only being rock wives but also businesswomen and moms. The full spectrum!"

How would you describe yourself and what misconceptions about yourself do you think the show will help counter?
"I was a high-fashion model - people called me an international supermodel. I don't know what it is about musicians and models but we seem to gravitate towards each other, I think it's because we have such parallel lives with the touring and travelling and early careers and glamour. I did covers of Vogue and ad campaigns for Yves St. Laurent which was wonderful because it was a stepping stone for me and education in itself. Living in Paris for five years and New York for three was a wonderful experience; I have friends around the world and it gave me some wonderful insight and inspiration into becoming a designer. I have a swimsuit line and the best part about it is that I get to contribute back to charity over 10% of my net proceeds to Surfrider Foundation for cleaner beaches and oceans to the National Children's Leukemia Foundation. I like to think I'm very blessed. I have experienced other cultures and had my own career before meeting Duff. We only further complete one another. Duff is obviously a stellar musician from Velvet Revolver to Guns N' Roses and his band Loaded to him going back to school, earning his finance degree and being on the Honour Role. We have both become business people and have made great investments. I'd like to think we are an inspiring couple."

Duff is in the first episode briefly. Will we see much of him throughout the season?
"You'll have to tune in! He is in it later on more. He is peripherally in the show as the other husbands are too. I met the man of my dreams, the love of my life and he happens to be a rock star! That doesn't really define who I am. I'm a mom, a model, a designer, an animal lover, a humanitarian. We have a lot more to talk about here."

Is it true your children won't be featured on camera?
"Yes, that's true. My children are not in the show but we can talk about our kids; I think everyone knows Duff and I are married and have kids. It's different for different folks. I'm not being judgmental to other people who have their kids on shows but for us it was not in the cards."

Was there anything else that you didn't want filmed?
"Well, it's not like cameras just pop up in our house! But at the same time it is an organic and raw [experience] and you are really coming in and seeing the real deal of our lives. It is very intimate. Duff and I worked long and hard to stay out of the limelight so it was a big deal for us; we felt vulnerable and excited and nervous, all these emotions. I think it is normal and natural. I'm really proud of the show - it's meant to be light-hearted and fun; there are laugh-out-loud moments like This Is Spinal Tap. I'm not trying to be Meryl Streep on the red carpet winning an Oscar for this role! It's meant to be entertaining and fun."

You and Duff have been married for over a decade. What's the secret to your longevity, especially in the showbiz world?
"I'm really proud and honoured of the fact that Duff and I recently celebrated our 11-year wedding anniversary. People constantly ask us, 'How did you do it? How did you meet?' So I thought I'd write a book. I've been working on it for the past year. It's tentatively titled Rock Solid. I interview various rock couples from Green Day to Aerosmith to Weezer on how all these superstar inspiring couples keep it together, and it includes Duff and myself. For us, I would say communication is key. We have a tremendous respect for one another and support and we leave our egos at the door!"

Now you've filmed the first season, would you return if a second run was offered?
"Well, it's been a fun project and I don't know what the future holds. I would like to think this is a wonderful success because I really, truly believe in it. I know that even if I wasn't on the show I would watch it! I'm curious to see this story and I think it will be a big hit; Duff thinks it will be a big hit. We'll have to wait and see, won't we? It's just been a lot of fun and I'm really proud of it and love all the funny stuff and the humour."

Can you give us any hints about what we can expect from the upcoming episodes?!
"I don't want to give it all away! Each and every episode is an unfolding and fun story in itself. Duff and I do everything from going to a children's cancer [fundraiser] where we act as team leaders for the night - which is great fun! - to daredevil stuff to getting to hang out at Lollapolooza where 150,000 people are enjoying a fun-filled rock day seeing Lady GaGa and Soundgarden. It's pretty cool and you're getting a backstage pass on some stuff that I don't think has ever been shown on TV before."

Married To Rock premieres Sunday, November 21 at 10.30pm only on E! Entertainment Television

From Duff:

TCC: In your Seattle Weekly column, you say how much you hate reality shows. Has your mind changed since Married to Rock?

Duff McKagan: No, I hate them more. I hate them more. If you notice in Married I love my wife. I do. I love my wife. It?s no secret around my house since reality shows came it?s f*cking garbage. Then my wife [says] ?They want me to be in a reality show.? "Good for you honey. Go do that thing.? ?But they kind of want you in it too.? And I?m kinda like ?No. Nuh-uh. Why do they want me?? ?Well, it?s called Married to Rock and you?re like the rock that I?m married too.? So I?m married and when you?re married when you?re right, you?re wrong and when you?re wrong, you?re wrong. So if you notice in that show I?m kind of like only in it. They wanted me to do all kinds of dumb *ss sh*t like go camping with all the other couples and then a tent falls down and there?s drama. Like f*ck that. I?m not doing that. Sorry, but I love my wife and she?s as cute as a little button and she has fun with it. But no, it hasn?t changed. I hate reality?I don?t watch any of it.
