Title: 140.6 miles this Saturday...
Post by: Axl4Prez2004 on September 22, 2010, 10:09:07 PM
wish me luck!  sink or swim time.
full iron distance this Saturday.
f'ing insane.

p.s. I should probably note it's 2.4 miles for the swim, 112 miles on the bike, followed by a marathon 26.2 mile run.

Hell, I burned almost that many calories screaming and jumping around like a lunatic May 12th, 2006 at the Hammerstein Ballroom!   8)

You are fucking nuts.  I can't even wrap my head around the possibility of all that.  I always suspected you were an extraterrestrial of some kind, this proves it.

Seriously, best of luck, hope you get through it all safely.

That's what I was wondering. I hope he didn't get run over by a truck or something on the last mile.

The high temp. of the day was 92 degrees.
I received a nice 3 inch by 4 inch welt above my right armpit from a jellyfish sting during the swim.
Unfortunately my body was having great difficulty keeping fluids down.  I was puking before the swim, on the 112 mile bike every 1/4 mile...
The winds were rough on the bike.
I had to stop at one point around mile 95 as my R leg literally locked up.  In my life I have never experienced anything like it.  I literally could not move my right leg without severe pain.
After massaging some form of life back to the leg, I just made myself do it.  I passed fit triathletes pulled over on the side of the road around mile 100 with their helmets buried on their aerobars on the side of the road.
It was brutal.
By time for the marathon, the heat was ridiculous.  The puking didn't stop.  It was never more than a mouthful, but it was so damn hot, I just had to spit that out and down as much fluid as possible to make sure my body wouldn't shut down.
No shade on the entire course.  Brutal...two ambulances with sirens on the run course, one on the bike course (that I saw)
...but that finish line...that glorious, beautiful finish line!  being able to run through with my wife and 3 children was a moment I will never forget.  Pure joy.  Absolutely pure unadulterated joy.  :)

alive and well...and very appreciative of the little things in life that we take for granted.

Well, Sebastian Bach was there for me...he was ready, willing, and prepared to finish the day for me just like in England a few years back for Axl with the end of Nightrain and Paradise City.  :)

Seriously, dead serious...food was not gonna happen.  Hell, drinking wasn't even very appealing at that time even with the elation of having completed the journey.  I forced fluids down, and even after the race...hell, 2 hours later at home still pacing back and forth, food wasn't too appealing.  It wasn't until yesterday I really enjoyed my food.

I will say that normally I don't enjoy salty foods, I am more of a sweet tooth.  That said, what little I have craved since the race has been sodium-laiden.

Weighed myself the night before the race, then the night after the race...lost 6 pounds.  The funny part of that though, is it wasn't just water.

...by the way, on a GNR note...I couldn't stop repeating Prostitute's opening line, "Seemed like forever, and a day..." at various points along the bike route.  What was different about a race of this kind of length though, was as opposed to a short, fast race, I couldn't rock out to Guns before the race.  With a sprint triathlon or a fast 5K I could always get really psyched up with Jungle, Better, or Scraped...

one more thing...to Genesis, and everybody else out there...you may think you could never do something like that...but to quote Shackler's, "I DON'T BELIEEEEEEVE YOUUUUUUUUU!!!!"  Think Scraped..."All  things are possible..."
It doesn't have to be an ironman triathlon.  there has to be something out there that you feel is totally out of reach.  just for the fuck of it, find that thing you think is impossible.  research what you'd have to do to get there...then FUCKING DO IT!  Before you engage in this process, you may, "feel like the world is on top of (you), breaking (you) down with an endless monotony..."  After, you will know that you can do anything you put your mind to...just not anyone you put your mind to.   :hihi:

Absolutely amazing.  I don't even know what to say to properly express how incredible that is.  That is fucking superhuman.

Congratulations, glad to hear you're doing well.
