From an audio interview with Matt Sorum on  93.7 KCLB Rocks!:

Matt Sorum: "The Velvet Revolver site will be back up probably in about a couple months with some good news.  We're going to get back to work it looks like in October.  We've got two singers that we're very interested in.  So everything is positive man."

MATT SORUM Talks DARLING STILETTOS, Future Of VELVET REVOLVER - Aug. 18, 2010

Tyler Russell of the 93.7 KCLB Rocks! radio station in Palm Springs, California recently conducted an interview with VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES drummer Matt Sorum and Matt's girlfriend of six years, DARLING STILETTOS lead singer Ace Harper. Slash's tour ends Oct. 2nd, and he has said that from then until he starts touring again in Feb would be VR time whatever that means.

Yeah, October sound about right.

And I think the "we've got two singers we're very interested in" part is new.

I've said it before, but I think VR should follow Slash's example and just get a bunch of singers to each sing a song on the next album. At this point, there is so much stigma attached to becoming the new VR singer that it's going to be hard to find a guy who can pull it off.

Slash says in this interview from this weekend that in Oct. when he has a few months off they are going to audition some singers and write a few new songs for Velvet Revolver.

Darren of 98.7FM interviews Slash at the Viper Room during the 2010 Sunset Strip Music Festival.

Slash said that Velvet Revolver is holding singer auditions next month, and could Myles Kennedy be a candidate?  No, according to Slash in this video interview.

I think the next singer will be an unknown. In one of the interviews with Matt recently he mentions they have a couple of guys the band is interested in. What I thought was interesting is he also said in the same interview that the VR website would be up soon. If they don't have a singer why would they do anything with the website now?

23/09/2010

"I'm still in Velvet. We're still looking for a singer and we'll go on until we find one. We've got a half a dozen songs already. I'm on tour until October then we'll sit down and figure out what we're going to do next," he says.

VELVET REVOLVER Trying Out Two Singers Next Month - Sep. 25, 2010

According to a new Twitter message from VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum, the band will try out two singers in early October.

VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash told BostonHerald.com earlier in the month that the search for a new frontman for the group will resume after he finishes his current solo tour, also insisting that his touring vocalist, Myles Kennedy, will not take the job. Kennedy will return to his band ALTER BRIDGE next month, while Slash will take the remaining months of 2010 to work on new music and go through audition tapes. VELVET REVOLVER has been dormant since April 2008, when the band dismissed original frontman Scott Weiland.

Slash told The Pulse of Radio that the band's status hasn't changed since. "Everybody asks the same question: 'Where are you with that?'" he said. "It's really, we're nowhere until we can find somebody who can do that job. Very quietly I've had my ears to the pavement, trying to see if there's anybody that fits that bill, and it's got to be somebody really good, 'cause I don't want to rush into it out of desperation. I want to wait 'til I get the right person."

As for the possibility of enlisting Kennedy, Slash told BostonHerald.com, "Kennedy is still committed to ALTER BRIDGE. I don't want to be the guy responsible for breaking up a band. But we'll find someone. Maybe not somebody known, but some kind of local hero."

Kennedy had actually been approached to sing for VELVET REVOLVER back in the early days of the group, and again after they parted ways with Weiland, but turned down the offer both times.

Problem with VR.. they want a frontman with a keyboard players personality.

That shit doesn't work in rock n roll

f rontmen are generally hard to work with for a reason but its a good reason.

Jon Bon Jovi says it best on that documentary "when we were beautiful"

he says basically how lead singer disease is bullshit and thats just the way it is. That someone has to take the wheel and QB the team.... Says the day someone tells him when he can tour etc ain't happening.

Go through History and every frontman on anybody's top 10 had some sort of demons or something difficult about them.

Brian Johnson does what Angus and Malcom tell him too...

Slash is the star of VR, or should be anyway.

yeah but huge difference. AC/DC are such a giant brand.. i could fucking sing for them maybe.. if i could scream like that and they'd still sell out 50k seat stadiums.

VR aren't a giant brand. they don't have a giant back catalog to rely on and didn't write Back in Black and all those other albums.

so, some bland boring singer isn't  gonna cut it.

From a MySpace update from Slash:

"In the meantime, there's a lot going on. VELVET REVOLVER is back together jamming, trying out singers. No updates yet. But it's great to hook up with Duff [McKagan], Matt [Sorum] and Dave [Kushner] after all this time. I'll keep you posted on any interesting developments from those sessions as they happen. But the creative juices are definitely flowing. I'm positive something awesome is going to surface soon.

I think Slash came up with Revolver, as in the revolving door of singers they were going through.
And when Scott came along he added Black Velvet, and then it became Velvet Revolver.

I never thought they should have used anything gun related in the title. Brings up too much similarities to GNR. Actually I think one of the biggest problems the band had is they never established their own identity apart from being ex-GNR members.

that would be like Jimmy Page starting another band - no matter what slash does, he'll always be the x-GnR Lead Guitarist

so according to your logic - Slash and Duff should just call it a career?

No, I just thought they should have picked a different name.  It would be more like Jimmy Page starting a new band and calling it Heavy Blimp.

This is by far the funniest thing I've read on this forum in ages, I literally laughed out loud at the though of a band being introduced as "You wanted the best, but they couldn't make it...here's...Heavy Bimppppp"  :hihi:

It's the exact same structure as Guns N' Roses. Something soft and something harsh, Velvet Revolver. But the name could matter less Slash will always be Ex-Guns N' Roses Guitarist ( hell some journalists go as far to introduce him as Guns N' Roses Guitarist ).

Contraband sold 2 million in the US, 2 number 1 singles ,grammy award

yeah, Id say 95 percent of bands would love to have problems like that.

I think the GNR connection brought a lot of attention to Contraband and it was a good album. But I think it hurt later. The week Libertad came out there was a VR story in Rolling Stone and the cover was a 20 year old picture of GNR commemorating the anniversary of AFD. VR just seemed so second rate compared to old Guns.

I never thought they should have used anything gun related in the title. Brings up too much similarities to GNR. Actually I think one of the biggest problems the band had is they never established their own identity apart from being ex-GNR members.

VR just seemed so second rate compared to old Guns.

any band these guys are in will always be seen as 2nd rate compared to the original. so regardless of the name, it still would've been the same cover.

They failed cause with Libertad, they let Scott make a solo album and strayed from what made Contraband awesome.

Along with this quote from Slash's last blog it does seem to be that way.

In the meantime, there's a lot going on. VR is back together jamming, trying out singers. No updates yet. But its great to hook up with Duff, Matt & Dave after all this time. I'll keep you posted on any interesting developments from those sessions as they happen. But the creative juices are definitely flowing. I'm positive something awesome is going to surface soon.

Maybe I should have just posted the " I'm positive something awesome is going to surface soon."
Both Slash and Matt seem to know something is about to happen soon.  :) Of course with VR's history I will beleive it when I see it.

I don't know...It's better than writing "Nope, shit out of luck again. Back to the drawing board for a few more months." Not saying they haven't found their guy or aren't about to, but it's better to put a positive spin on recent developments than a negative one, no matter what the results of these jam sessions are. Keeps people interested and the media at attention. Either way, I'm just glad they're determined to keep the band going.

From an interview with Slash today, here is roughly what he says about Velvet Revolver:

What's happening with Velvet Revolver at the moment Slash?  I heard the other day that you'd been jamming a bit.

Slash: Well we did do some jamming, we've been trying out singers and we did a couple of days of sessions. And we've got another grouping of singers coming in fairly soon so -- ya know we're working on it.  We haven't been purposely looking for anybody that's really well known, it's just because we've gone that route already. Usually what happens is whoever it is that is well known is recognizable, you end up sounding like a hybrid of our band and their band and ya know, we don't want that.  So I'd be really, the optimum thing would be to find someone who is like a local sort of home town hero that's great and has experience but isn't recognized on the world stage, and introduce somebody sort of new and fresh into this whole thing.

I'm obviously working toward getting Velvet Revolver back on track.

Last night on Survivor, the 2 tribes merged and the new tribe name they came up with was "Libertad".  I sense a second wind for record sales.  :hihi:

i highly doubt they'll announce a singer and concentrate on VR full time any soon. i mean....Slash to tour with Ozzy in 2011, Loaded releasing an album 3/2011, Matt doing some album, whats the point with those updates how difficult on one hand, how exciting on the other hand the singer situation is? we're used to that stuff since Scott left, didnt help at all yet  >:(

Slash Announces Second Studio Album

Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy will provide all lead vocals for Slash?s second solo album, which will be out next year, the ex Guns N?Roses guitarist has revealed.

And a track he recorded with Black Eyes Peas singer Fergie will appear on her upcoming solo album.

He tells the Sunday Mercury: ?Fergie and I are going to work together again. There was another song we cut during the sessions of the album, and she liked it so much she plans to use it on an album of her own.

?It?s going to be a real rock?n?roll album and I?ll be delighted to play on it.?

Meanwhile, Slash?s solo band are gearing up for another tour in 2011, and the guitarist says a ?big name? is due to audition soon from the currently singerless Velvet Revolver.

I'm surprised Myles is not doing the next Velvet Revolver record instead, although I guess maybe that is more of a committment long term maybe-the different singer thing was cool but I would rather see one person handle the vocals on his next album anyway.

so another Slash album in 2011? with more touring most likely, huh? really doesnt look good with VR. and i could live very well without all the teasing: "we're trying out new singers next week"; "hopfeully announcement to come next month" and stuff like that when there really isnt coming out anything from.

I will be glad to get another album with Slash and Myles working together there chemistry is great. But I agree with Limulus I am tired of the VR teasing. It is getting old if they don't want to re group it is their business but just say so.

If he's a "big name" would he have to audition.  Didn't Scott Weiland take issue with someone saying he had to audition -- he insisted he never did.

If the singer is well known they already know what he can do. Maybe it would be a matter of seeing what kind of chemistry he would have with the VR band members. And all of them agreeing on the style of music that will be made by the band. JMO

Well yeah I think you're right, he won't be "auditioning" like the unknowns have been probably. He'll do like weiland; put some vox on some demos, jam a bit and hang out with them.

Any ideas of who the big name is? At other forums? Somebody stalk VR!

I'm not too fussed if nothing comes of VR, we've already got two great rock albums coming in 2011 - Loaded's new album, and Slash's second solo album with Myles singing all the tracks.
