Watch Reading and Leeds Festival 2010 live online

Music fans will be able to watch live online streaming of the 2010 Reading and Leeds Festival next weekend (27 - 29 August).

BBC Three's coverage, which comes from the Reading site, will be webcast on the internet, starting on Friday evening at 9pm. It will broadcast loads of live performances from all the main stages, as well as interviews and special acoustic sets backstage.

It could be a lively night on BBC Three, with headliners Guns N' Roses rocking the main stage. Fears were raised earlier this week about whether their set would go ahead after someone hacked into Axl Rose's Twitter account to say that all Guns N' Roses dates had been cancelled.

You'll also be able to watch Mumford and Sons, Biffy Clyro and LCD Soundsystem on Friday evening.

Performances from the re-formed Libertines and headliners Arcade Fire are the highlights on Saturday, while Sunday sees sets from Blink 182 and The Klaxons.

Video highlights from Reading and Leeds will be available on-demand on the BBC's official site for the festival, including sets from the BBC Introducing stage. There will also be live Radio 1 coverage from Reading and Leeds, plus fantastic photos from the Festival at NME.com.

Just click the link below for the BBC's Reading and Leeds web coverage. Visit the official website for the full Reading and Leeds 2010 line-up, and for the official Reading and Leeds Twitter feed. Oh, and don't forget that you can watch free live streaming of the V Festival this weekend, too.

It all sounds very cool, but you have to remember two things:

It's probably up to the artist to agree to have their set streamed.
Since this is BBC, it might only available for people in the UK.

Yes, true. GN'R have agreed to let their festival performances be filmed before. Rock Am Ring, RIR II, III & Lisbon and the KROQ Inland Invasion. Some songs from Download 06 as well.

It's not far fetched, and if it's available for the UK only, there's always someone recording it... :)

Edit: For what it's worth, Guns N' Roses are featured on the main page for BBC's festival site.

Regardless, I hope someone can record it. Any info on HD resolution?

FROM BBC's SITE:

What performances will be available?
The majority of performances on the Main stage, Radio 1 stage and BBC Introducing stage will be recorded by the BBC. We will endeavour to air each of these performances live or show extended highlights on BBC Three, Radio 1, Red Button and here online.

Why don't we show all artists and songs?
When the BBC decides to cover a music festival, it needs to work within a tight budget to provide the best value for money for Licence Fee payers. This means we cannot always afford to record all performances from every stage. At Reading festival we are recording the Main stage, Radio 1 stage and BBC Introducing stage. These stages offer the main headline acts from the festival and interesting newer artists.

On occasion an act may not wish to be filmed or recorded. Artists may also agree to be recorded but only allow a limited number of songs to be aired. This could be for a number of reasons for instance: the quality of some parts of the performance, because they do not wish to broadcast new or unreleased material, or they do not want to broadcast their entire live set.

The material an artist plays may not agree with the BBC Taste & Decency guidelines, such as containing excessive swearing. In these instances there is no way for the BBC to air that material.

The BBC is committed to making sure the sound and visual quality of a performance is high. In live open air arenas, the quality of recordings and performances can vary greatly due to environmental and technical factors. The BBC may decide that the recording of particular songs are not of a high enough quality to air, although we endeavour to provide at least a sample of a band's show if we feel they are central to the festival.

Another reason why certain songs are not available on the BBC is due to there being a limited number of broadcast slots to air material. Around 40 hours of performances will be recorded at Reading festival, but TV and Radio slots will amount to much less. This means TV and Radio producers select the performances that reflect the festival best and appeal to the different audiences for networks and channels. Much more material is featured on Red Button and online but even then the practical limitations of editing such a large amount of material quickly can prevent performances from being available

This is so cool, I'll be attending both and look forward to seeing at least some proshot videos from these two.

The last show I attended that was also proshot was Download festival (2 songs) and Rock in Lisbon before that. It is brilliant to see we might have a chance at getting Reading and Leeds proshot too.  :)

This is the promotion GN'R needs! No single, no video, no interview and almost no publicity for their tour...
But these festivals are watched by millions all over the world (if we include the downloading motherfuckers). There's really no better way to attract new fans.

Great news. We have proshots of all the GNR shows where a broadcast was announced except for 2 songs at RAR 2006... its pretty clear Axl and the boys will have no problem at all.

And no matter where this will be streamed, someone will capture it and eventually up it. That's one of the few good things about internet.

UltraSurf or Justin.TV could solve the problems of streaming it out of UK.

Coverage on BBC Three begins at 9pm so I would hope that GNR are featured in some way, since most of the other bands suck. I would check BBC Three on Friday night though for the best chance to see GNR. BBC don't stream or report from Leeds, just as a reminder, so only Reading will be shown.

I watched the glastonbury coverage on BBC 3 this year and it's always top notch. to see New GnR live on the TV is going to be amazing!!!  I will try and record it. ;D
Good thing is they usually have the festival coverage on the loop so its repeated over and over in case you miss it!! :hihi:

Anyone know what time EST to expect GNR?

I would be suprised if the whole set is shown live.  The tv listings here has 'Mumford & Sons' doing a live set at 9pm with other highlights and olive performances at 10.30pm.  So my guess is that they may switch to GNR at 10.30 and show a few songs live like they did last year with The Killers.
