Here Today... Gone To Hell!

I mentioned this on a different forum the other day, but I was wondering what people here think of it. Does any one think it would be a cool idea for GN'R to get some quick, positive buzz in the US if Axl did some stuff that's out side of the box? Like maybe do a video for Funny Or Die? Have GN'R do a few songs in Times Square unannounced? Do some sort of walk-on during one of the late night shows? Or Saturday Night Live perhaps?

I've never met the man, but he seems to have a pretty good sense of humor from what I can tell. If he (or GN'R) did something simple like the suggestions above I think it could really create some positive buzz very quickly with how fast news travels these days.

I definitely agree, but it seems to me like US buzz really isnt on Axl or the bands agenda. I would love to see people in the US talking about GNR, but I dont see it happening soon

First and foremost, Axl knows who he is and what he is, a rock icon, legend, whatever.  Anywhere he goes, he's gonna be mobbed by fans and reporters and papparazi. Any radio station, tv station, individual blogger or whatever would interview him in a second(if for no other reason than to make a name for themself). Promotion would not be a problem if Axl so chose it. He's got his own way of doing things and so far, I'd say he's been fairly succesful. A video, though, would probably be the quickest way.

I disagree about a video and I really don't know why anyone thinks that would help at all these days. I really think a more unconventional way to promote would be the best and it would totally suit Axl's unconventional style.

I don't think Axl wants buzz. He prefers to stay out of the limelight methinks.

On MTV of course! I mean if it was the 1980's and people cared more about music on music channels than watching reality shows

videos are a waste of time & money these days. i hate to say that but its true. i would love to see them make videos, but they dont sell the album. paying for radio time does.

A sessions at AOL.
an MTV Live show(unplugged or live(electric and stuff)
A tour dvd - Perhaps an Documentairy from the 09-010 tour that would be great.
Tour promo's big time.
put out singles (with video's) wether people see them or not.
interviews
live shows(Pro-shot) Rockpalace, mtv, aol, put out some great sh*t and there is your buzz.
A new album (Fully reloaded with promo interviews video's and stuff) Not that it would happen soon.. but it is an idea!

I think one real interview with a big circulation publication (like Rolling Stone or Playboy) where real questions are asked and answered would do wonders.  An appearance on Letterman or Kimmel or something like that would be awesome, but I can't help but think that if this was going to happen it would have already.

While it's true what a lot of people on here say that we hard core fans make up a small percentage of the population, the curiosity factor alone would make for good ratings or magazine sales.  

I agree about the video being a waste of time and money.  Just shoot an awesome HD performance of Better and a classic song from tonight and post it on youtube.  That would generate the same or more buzz than an expensive concept video.

I'd love to see them do something for the stripped section of iheartradio.com website.

imo, i think that they have had it with the label & dont want to make them a dime. at this point lets enjoy the shows were getting. enjoy the album, or hate the album. thats up to you. regardless, of everything.

I agree. 
Axl could easily produce any amount of buzz if he wanted without much effort at all.  It just doesn't appear that's at the top of his priority list at this time.  What we want and what he wants may be quite different.

I understand what you guys are saying, but I guess I just see it a little differently. It's not at all about what "I want", I guess I'm just surprised that they don't use any of the tools out there nowadays to create some buzz. I totally understand that Axl doesn't like to play the so-called "game" and he's obviously an unconventional guy. That's why I'm shocked that he wouldn't use some "out of the box" ways to promote the band.

That's the thing.  I don't think he's overly concerned with promoting the band.  He's been at the top of the mountain and unfortunately, no matter what he does he (GNR) will never reach the level they were once at for a multitude of reasons.  IMO.

shows like last night dont help. those fans had a right to be upset. they dont have the right to throw shit, but when the whole place is chanting refund, that should be a eye opener. now i have no clue what the delay was, but this was a huge chance to show the promoters that guns can be successful in the u.s., but once again, it proves the skeptics right. regardless how good the show was, the media doesnt care. michael jackson once said theres no such thing as bad press, which was wrong. his career never recovered until his passing. & for the record alot of people got hurt by flying bottles at sturgis. to get back to topic, i yould say no buzz is better than bad buzz.
