Post by: D on July 15, 2010, 05:06:55 PM Before i joined the forum and right before Live Era came out, I probably had a couple year period where I didn't listen much. I had worn it out so much over 6-7 years that i got deep into something else and didn't listen. Rediscovering it though was magical!

Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: DarkFairy on July 15, 2010, 06:33:46 PM I go through phases, as a teenager I'd listen to em 24/7 (literally, on my walkman while I slept :hihi: ) but now I don't really have the time to listen to stuff, mostly in the car.
Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: One.In.A.Million on July 15, 2010, 07:10:16 PM I listen to GN'R everyday, it really is part of my daily routine. I don't even think about it really, it just comes naturally. I know alot of people on this forum maybe listen to alot of other bands as well as GN'R. But for me GN'R is the only band I listen to, I'm not into anything else. I can say that happily and honestly, I am happy and content that I have discovered GN'R, the only band I'll ever need. :)
Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: Pinball Wizard on July 15, 2010, 09:20:22 PM There's not a single day that I go through without listening to GNR.
Ever since I started to understand what they are, at the age of 12 (my first contact with GNR was at the age of 6), i basically listen to them everyday. GN'R's music helped me to go through some serious shit in my life, like depression and all the bad and self-destruct stuff that comes with it. I even wrote a small paper for college this semester, talkin' about how GN'R changed the way I read the world around me. Plus, AFD is a great record to listen while you're running! : ok: Sorry for the "little-longer-than-usual-answer-for-this-kind-of-question" post. Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: SkeletorSerpent on July 15, 2010, 11:00:36 PM The longest I went without Gnr tunes was 41 hours, 37 minutes and 23 seconds. It was the worst 41 hours, 37 minutes, and 23 seconds of my life. Up until your post, I had forgotten about that painful time, but your post brought all the horrific feelings gushing back.
Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: LittleFly on July 15, 2010, 11:11:08 PM I go through phases, as a teenager I'd listen to em 24/7 (literally, on my walkman while I slept :hihi: ) but now I don't really have the time to listen to stuff, mostly in the car. I tried to explain a "walkman" to my 11 yr old daughter the other day. She rofled  I went a long time...years without GNR, except when they came on the radio or whatever. I got back into them when I had a bit of a breakdown in 2002. Haven't let up since :) Though, I do go periods without listening now. I haven't listened in a few months right now. I bought a truck with a CASSETTE PLAYER in it. Was CD even sold on Cassette?? No music for me :-\ Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: kaasupoltin on July 16, 2010, 05:30:25 AM It changes.. GN'R used to be the only band I ever listened to. Then came RHCP, Pearl Jam, The Clash and others that I also enjoy very much. So I don't count the seconds or anything, but according to last.fm GN'R is clearly my top band on every list except on "last seven days". And no wonder :P
But I think it's pretty close-minded to only listen to one band.. I never get bored with GN'R, but I think everyone should listen to different kinds of music, it's only good for you and your needs ;D And you can always return to GN'R and remember that these other fucking great and amazing bands don't even come close to what GN'R is. Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: D on July 16, 2010, 07:23:30 AM Just listened to a bunch of CD songs... damn shame Catcher and Prostitute aren't singles..
Catcher is probably my favorite song on CD currently. The lyrics are just some of the best. Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: superstarmc on July 16, 2010, 07:27:42 AM I went from 1993 to 2002 without listening.
Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: Voodoochild on July 16, 2010, 10:22:13 AM I still listen to CD almost everytime I play Gran Turismo on my PSP and I still play the songs on the Rock Band 2 game.

Post by: cotis on July 17, 2010, 10:23:00 AM I haven't listened to GNR since about December, right before the tour started. I just can't justify listening to them -- they're one of, if not my, favorite band but with all the shit going on and never being able to see them live -- kinda drags the feeling down.
I catch it on the radio every so often, but I haven't set out and said 'Oh, lets listen to some GNR' in a long long time. Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? I'm glad others don't stop listening to great music based on the fact that they might never see the artist in question live in concert. As I type this, I have Soundgarden playing..... /jarmo Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? As I type this, I have Soundgarden playing..... /jarmo Well that sure is nice, I just haven't really wanted to listen to GNR in a long time. Never had the urge to put on CD/AFD/UYI. If it comes up on shuffle or radio, sure I'll listen. But I personally feel there is more appealing music out there to me right now. I know people that can't listen to Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd -- simply because they are big fans but when they hear some of said music playing, it pains them that they know they will probably never see them play live again. It depends on people, no? But thanks for attacking me for having an opinion ;) ...once again. Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: kaasupoltin on July 17, 2010, 07:16:06 PM I think it's pretty strange if you can't listen to the music you love simply because it's impossible to see the band live. It's just stupid :/
Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: Albert S Miller on July 17, 2010, 11:41:24 PM Everyone is different, it is nice to consider those factors sometimes. On topic though, I don't go a single day without listening to them at least at some point, and I can not recall any gap in time where I may not have listened to them at all. I am eager for them to get to the states, but feel fortunate to have all the technology we have, so really, we are all able to view what is going on no matter where they are, and that can tide some of us over until our turn is here, I believe they are saving the best for last, home sweet home ;). Hang in there Cotis :P.
Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: D on July 18, 2010, 12:00:21 AM yeah cotis, ur awesome bro and i agree with most of what u say... but i don't agree with that.
Ive never seen STP,Pink Floyd or GNR live and they are my favorite bands ever. really doesn' tmatter to me if i ever see them live either. Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: H76 on July 18, 2010, 05:53:23 AM I've had many periods when I have not listened to GNR that much or at all. Yet again at times I've been listening to it pretty much on daily basis.
During the last two years I've been listening to GNR and especially new album at least 5 days a week. Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? I lost touch with GNR from the mid nineties till the turn of the century, meaning I didn't really follow any of the goings on during those years. But I never stopped listening to them. At most maybe I've gone a couple of weeks here and there, but I wouldn't think much more than that Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: Gunner80 on July 18, 2010, 06:23:12 PM Maybe three or four months, but of course the urge to hear great timeless music is always to much to ignore.
Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: Melissa84 on July 19, 2010, 03:27:48 AM In the past four years there isn't a day gone past where I have not heard GN'R or Axl's voice ;D.
Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: Melissa84 on July 19, 2010, 03:29:45 AM Almost like second nature now ;).
Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: cotis on July 19, 2010, 09:20:07 PM I just haven't gone out of my way to listen to them lately, if they come up on shuffle or the radio (like I said) I listen to them. Simple as that.
Title: Re: What's the longest you've gone without listening to GNR ? Post by: spookeend on July 20, 2010, 07:26:25 AM few months apart, i take LP's to the living room and shuffle them, not always a GNR lp in the batch i take to the living room, to much other great music to listen too.
Nowerdays, collection mania kicked in, so, listening, recording, sorting out, listening more, comparing, man, it looks like sound studio here with all those various releases and bootlegs here....... Not to mention, the pc, Harddrives are filled almost completely with GNR stuff now, when i am done with a part, transfer to usb stick and external HD's to keep it safe............ So, even when i am not actually listening, i might be working on something GNR related, man, it's getting maniacal shapes now :-\ :-X |
