Slash has warned aspiring rockers against using his autobiography as a "how-to guide".

The guitarist has lived to tell the tale of the hedonistic lifestyle detailed in his self-titled autobiography Slash, released in 2007. However, the 44-year-old star doesn?t want budding musicians to use the book as a guide to becoming a rock star.

?There were lots of lows with those highs. Don?t use that book as an influential guide of how to be a rock personality?, he said in an interview with BBC Radio 1.

In his autobiography, the former lead guitarist of Guns N? Roses pinpoints frontman Axl Rose?s inability to show up on time to gigs and rehearsals as one of the main reasons behind the downfall of the successful rock band, who were behind hits including Sweet Child O?Mine and November Rain. Slash claims that even his alcohol intake became more excessive due to his difficult relationship with Axl.

?Drinking became associated with waiting for Axl to get on stage, it became more depressing. It became an ugly alcoholism?, he revealed.

Slash?s tome also gives details of sex with groupies, including a threesome with another band member, as well as revealing the various drugs he experimented with. He is now clean and sober, but says he hasn?t ruled alcohol out of his life completely.

?I still like to hang out with people who drink, it makes me feel more comfortable?, he said.
