Slash Records The Theme For Triple M

Slash has taken to the studio to resurrect the old Triple M theme.

The original track used for the theme retitled ?Dr Dan? was written by Mike Batt who these days manages Katie Melua. Batt also wrote the Art Garfunkel classic ?Bright Eyes?.

Original Triple M owner Rod Muir used his track ?The Journey of The Fool? from his 1980 album Tarot Suite and renamed it ?Dr Dan? after his yacht for the opening of the original Triple M radio station in Sydney.

The current Triple M, now owned by Austereo, is taking a step back to the original Muir origins of the station by not only bringing back the theme but also the original logo used by Muir in Sydney in the 80s.

Slash recorded the new version of the theme when he was in Australia last month for the launch of MTV Classic.

Slash Releases New Dr. Dan Song!

29 June, 2010

The Triple M offices went off this morning after a very excited competition winner hand-delivered Slash's newly recorded, highly anticipated Dr. Dan masterpiece from Paris.

Triple M Sydney literally made as much noise possible, ferrying the winner Nick Pritchard from Sydney airport (where he'd just touched down with the song after meeting Slash in Paris) to the station on a roaring motorcade of Harley Davidson motorcycles and hot red Ford Mustangs.

The ex-Guns N' Roses guitarist re-recorded Triple M's Dr. Dan theme after he heard the famous rock riff for the first time when he was at the MMMs earlier in the year to promote his new solo album.

Slash told Triple M at the time: "I've got some Australian friends who told me that this theme was the background music for the station. You guys should still use it.

"I think it would be fun to go in and take a stab at that and see if we can make it, I hate to use this word but it's the only word I can think of, but make it more contemporary."

The legendary guitarist recorded a smoking version at his LA studio. He didn't change it too much besides making it a little faster and heavier.

Triple M held a competition to celebrate Slash's new recording, flying the winners over to Paris so they could meet their guitar idol and collect the original master from Slash backstage before his show. To say the winners were excited - possibly the biggest Slash fans in the world - was a massive understatement!

Slash did the version as a thank you to the MMMs and to help celebrate Triple M's 30th anniversary as Australia's premier rock station.
