Title: Guns N' Roses - Bergen Concert 05/31/10 - Discussion Post by: Spirit on May 29, 2010, 10:55:45 AM Time to start the concert threads again, GN'R is in town!
Guns at Garage Garage/Bryggen (BA): : Axl Rose's guitarist, DJ Ashba, partyed at Garage last night. As usually, it was crowdy and fun in the club in Nyg?rdsgaten. Somewhat unusual though, Daren Jay Ashba (his full name) was among the attendees. Some members of Guns N' Roses, who plays a gig in Vestlandshallen on monday, checked in at the SAS hotel friday afternoon. The main star, Axl Rose, arrives saturday afternoon. SURROUNDED BY LADIES: The 37-year-old who grinds the axe in the band had some beer and was surrounded by female Garage guests. It was obvious that Ashba enjoyed himself in Bergen - maybe because the club's dj played tracks from GN'R's latest album. Dj Ashba replaced Robin Finck who left the band in 2008. Previously he's been playing in Beautiful Creatures and Sixx:AM. He's been a official member since March 21, 2009. SKUNK GIVES PARTY PROMISE: Earlier in the afternoon, BA's journalist met with a member of the 40-person GN'R crew. ? I don't know where the rest of the band is. Usually they are staying at a nicer hotel, says a member of the crew who calls himself Skunk. He's a keyboard technician. Even though he's been traveling all over the US, he never met Axl Rose. ? I've met Dizzy Reed and Dj Ashba. They are two great guys. He promises a spectacular show in Vestlandshallen monday. ? AWESOME!: ? We've just been on a tour in the US [I guess they mean Canada], and it was fantastic. Monday's concert will be spectacular. Now we have much more time to get all details in place, Skunk says. ? The production consists of video projectors and lasers among many other things, and he adds: ? It's gonna be awesome! Guns N' Roses had some coffee and red wine while checking out art in Bergen friday night. However Axl Rose, the main star and only original member of the legendary band, wasn't among those who visited Cacti Art Caf? friday night. For the owner (Nils Friis) of the caf?, it still was a pleasure to greet the band welcome. ? I myself is somewhat of a heavy rock fan, so it was quite fun that they decided to come here. Drummer Bryan Mantia [they mean Frank I guess] and keyboardist Chris Pitman was among the visitors. ? They wanted a good, strong coffee first. Later in the evening they had red wine, Friis tells us. LONG TALK: He chatted for a while with the Americans he says. ? They were very interested in art, and one of them wanted to buy one of the pictures. He promised to come back. ? We also discussed coffee and beer. We have about 70 different sorts of beer, the owner adds. He also proudly tells us that the musician Anthony Johnson from Anthony And The Johnsons, and Sir Roger "James Bond" Moore have stopped by the caf? previously. He secured himself visible evidence of the celeb visit on the wall in the ground floor. ? They signed the wall here, he says excited and shows the autographs. (http://gfx.nrk.no/b-GKmmI-9nOi8XevkcP5VAAJXFiOlk-LZyQGNIQUrY7Q.jpg) Monday night Guns N' Roses will kick off the European leg of the "Chinese Democracy World Tour" in Vestlandshallen, before they continue in Oslo on Wednesday. Reed is among the few in the band who has been in Bergen before. - It's nice to be back. I've been here once before, doing a sideproject. It was February and really cold and dark I remember. We played a small place called... Hulen? It was fun, definitively worth the train ride, Dizzy Reed tells NRK.no. Practiced without Axl. The keyboardist of Guns N' Roses came to Bergen together with the rest of the band - minus Axl Rose - on Thursday, but the 46-year-old haven't had the time to see much of the city. - I wish we were in the middle of the tour because I love Bergen, and I would want to see more of it. Hopefully I'll be back sometime on vacation, and will get the time to see the city and the fjords. That would have been really cool, Reed says. NRK.no got to take part of the rehearsals in Vestlandshallen on Sunday afternoon. Frontman Axl Rose weren't present but will probably be there for the final checks before the concert on Monday afternoon. Keyboardist Dizzy Reed and guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal substituted on the vocals in some parts, other than that, the band went through the songs instrumentally. (http://www.nrk.no/contentfile/file/1.6473861!f169CropList/img462x262.jpg) The songs played while NRK.no were present were "Live And Let Die", "Sorry", "If The World", "Prostitute", "Rocket Queen" and "My Michelle". For those who are wondering: Guns N' Roses 2010 is an extremely competent and tight hard rock band! The worst question Dizzy Reed is the only one left in the band since they were really big in the early 90s. The keyboardist joined the band in 1990, and he has seen people come and go in an impressive tempo ever since. The break with Slash is a subject the band don't want to talk about, and Reed doesn't want to rip-up in the downfalls of the band before they reached a stabilized new group of musicians. - What question regarding Guns N' Roses are you sick of? - ?Where is Axl?? I've gotten that one for ages. So much for a while I almost thought it was my name. But I don't know, don't ask me, the 46-year-old chuckles. New axeman The latest member of the band is named DJ Ashba, and is the bands third guitarist. A spot he shares with Richard Fortus and Ron Thal. Without there being any chaos on stage, shall we believe the 37year-old. - We share the songs amongst us. I do 80-90 percent of the Slash-bits, Ron does the Buckethead-parts and Richard does a lot of what Izzy did. Whatever fits our own style. We are very different guitarists, and do what feels natural, the guitarist tells NRK.no. (http://gfx.nrk.no/YzpvMekfwxWMwK2gFZGEKAUV6cG6WRaFiB_XDk9Gk-FQ.jpg) - Is it correct that the band performs without a real setlist? - Yes, and that's what's cool about Guns N' Roses. I've never been in a band like this before. You have to be on your toes the whole time, because it all depends on the feeling Axl has each night. Usually he calls out songtitles, sometimes in a completely different order than the night before. I love it, and first of all great for the audience. You'll never get the same show twice. That way, we keep the spontaneity, says Ashba. - Jam! On the latest tour the group have played around with many cover songs, for example "My Generation" (The Who), "Sonic Reducer" (Dead Boys) and "Whole Lotta Rosie" (AC/DC). The last one is a song GN'R often played in the start of their career, and they blowed the dust off it right before christmas when the band played in Japan. - It was Axl idea. Sometimes the guitarists just throws out a riff, and sometimes he joins in, like he did that night. We ended up with a real cool jam, and since that we've been playing it from time to time, Ashba says. The concert in Vestlandshallen Monday night is the tour opener for Europe, and this marks the first time they've visited Bergen. Dizzy Reed promises the fans will get their money worth when Guns N' Roses takes the stage. - A lot of good songs, spectacular entertainment, lights and explotions.. Quality entertainment! Rejects reunion - If I was to bet on the classic line up to reform, what would you tell me? - If I was a bookmaker, I would definatenly take your money. But don't. You would have lost. Guaranteed. http://www.nrk.no/nyheter/distrikt/hordaland/1.7145662 (http://www.nrk.no/nyheter/distrikt/hordaland/1.7145662) Title: Re: Guns N' Roses - Bergen Concert 05/31/10 - Discussion Post by: Ericnor on May 30, 2010, 03:16:36 PM GUNS N' ROSES CHARMED BY BERGEN http://www.nrk.no/nyheter/distrikt/hordaland/1.7145662 (http://www.nrk.no/nyheter/distrikt/hordaland/1.7145662) I'll start translating... Bandet virker langt unna publikum. Welcome To The Jungle N? er publikum med! Herlig kaotisk lysshow. Live And Let Die Etter en hissig James Bond-inspirert gitarsolo kommer McCartney-coveren Live And Let Die fra Use Your Illusion II. Svulstig, men suggerende.
November rain Dice 5 ! Already during the tours first concert the band got critics for playing old songs, but when November rain hits in, its clear why they do! This is why peoples here. The Blitz`s lightening and the beer glasses swings in the "halvm?rket" dim light... The band grows even bigger with the test, and the end of the tune thunders through the place akkompangert of mighty pyro, the audience get a full worthy experience! A bit messy end.. but.. sorry for the band translation... im a bit in a hurry :P Title: Re: Guns N' Roses - Bergen Concert 05/31/10 - Discussion Post by: Nytunz on May 31, 2010, 06:48:13 PM Pink Panther Theme
Kanskje nettopp derfor. Guitarist Bumblefoot thal Pink Panther inspired solo, is messy and cheese, but the mest entertaining. Dead tired, so not many words, maybe more tomorrow. I see the setlist has been updated. A few notes before I go to bed: yes, they went on late, but we're used to that. axl landed at the airport at 8.10 pm this evening. ("I was 24 hours delayd from LA, I think he said at the end of the concert? correct me if i'm wrong.) Axl didnt talk much with the audience, but his voice was just incredible, and the band was playing really tight! Tommy stinson was totally wasted though, but I'm not a bass freak, so dont know if he did his job or not. I was standing way in front all the time. Totally sober, but still so high, cuz this was just awesome people. cant wait to get to oslo to hear them again on wednesday. Nightrain was one of the highlight, but many others as well... DJ running by right were I was during that song. And Fernando was holding his hat 1 meter i front of me.... just a sidenote :) Oh well, what can I say more, its been a fantastic evening... off to bed, excited to read the reviews tomorrow from the local newspapers. I bet they will bitch about him being late on stage, but man, all the other stuff.... I'll give them a 5/6 on the dice :) -Eirik Title: Re: Guns N' Roses - Bergen Concert 05/31/10 - Discussion Post by: cotis on May 31, 2010, 08:42:28 PM One show down, many more to come.

Managed to get in the first group, so front row for me. Exhausting, but well worth it. Some random stuff about the concert:
Amazing show and the sound was absolutely incredible. Set list maybe a bit short compared to other shows, but seemed like most people were only there for the appetite songs anyway. When Ron first appeared the guy next to me went: "it's Gilby Clarke" During the encore Axl said something like: "less than 24 hours ago i'm sitting in LA thinking... I'm fucked" Axl throws his hat to Chris who catches it mid air. Got a thumbs up. Axl sneaking up on DJ during a solo in kohd to try and startle him. Didn't work. Axl pulling Richard aside to show him a bottle with the label "dp". Richard had to think about it for a couple of seconds, but had a big grin when he got it. Ok, i'm just assuming he's thinking what i'm thinking. In the jam before NR Axl went something like: "if anyone wanna let me know what's happening, that would be nice". Talking about what they were playing I think. Ron did the first part of his solo with a rose in his mouth before throwing it back to some girls in the crowd. DJ did a solo running through the pit then disappearing under the stage. A woman who I guess was Beta was sitting sidestage for a long part of the show, taking some pictures. Seemed to really be enjoying the show. Title: Re: Guns N' Roses - Bergen Concert 05/31/10 - Discussion Post by: H76 on June 01, 2010, 07:59:20 AM ;D Thanks for sharing that jordinho.

AC/DC Forced To Shorten Oslo Concert by Paul Cashmere - June 1 2010 photo by Ros O'Gorman AC/DC fans in Oslo on Sunday got a cutdown version of the show because of a plane malfunction. The band was due to leave Berlin but their plane had a mechanical problem forcing AC/DC to look for another chartered plane. By the time they made the alternative arrangements, they did not get to the stage at Valle Novin in Oslo, Norway until 9:45pm. Norway has strict laws governing curfew and the band had to get off stage by 11pm. (They were through until 11:15pm). However, the setlist suffered with ‘Shot Down In Flames’, ‘War Machine’, ‘Black Ice’ and ‘For Those About To Rock’ being cut from show. Blabbermouth.net has asked the question if this was the first time ever since the release of ‘For Those About To Rock’ in 1981 that AC/DC has not performed the song in concert? It might well be. Title: Re: Guns N' Roses - Bergen Concert 05/31/10 - Discussion Post by: jarmo on June 01, 2010, 09:37:32 AM I'm assuming the rules aren't the same everywhere?

From where we were standing the vocal was really really low for most of the show. The setlist was great! I was hoping for This I Love and I got my wish. Sadly Axl was out of sync with the music for the first half of the song. All in all the band and production was great. Axl was not so great. Sadly, since he is the star of the show... I'm off to Oslo tonight, hopefully the gig tomorrow sees Axl Rose on fire! Vocal a bit low in the beginning, but got turned up a bit pretty soon. Axl didn't really interact much with the crowd. Seemed to be having a good time though.
Also, Tommy had a T-shirt on that said "Garage", a local rock club. At the end he did some poses for the gnr-photographer, standing on one leg, arms stretched out. Looked a bit silly, but all in good fun. He can be as misguided as Johnny Depp and the Dixie Chicks girl who outwardly accused the stepfather of one of the victims of the murder. This is the 7th time I?ve seen them. I'm a huge fan of all line ups and think this particular line up has the potential to be fantastic. However, last night was a mess. The wait is normal, that was not my problem but the actual show was poor. There was no connection with Axl to the audience, who on occasion did not even get to the stage on time to sing. Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal was furious with Axl throughout for being late, which was obvious from the audience. He could not look at Axl. Ron apologised to fans at his Radisson hotel after the show. I think Axl's behaviour was a little disrespectful to the people who paid so much cash to be there. There was times in the show where I felt sad, I was looking up at my life long hero and realising he's possibly lost it. Physically he looks like a sad man. It's a saddening sight seeing Axl looking like the old circus ring leader having to haul himself on stage to join the younger sexier troupe.
Disheartened . I suppose given it was the first show in a while (maybe axl/the band were a little rusty? - dare i say..) and axl was very late, the reviews are not too bad! set list looked good to me, sure the show rocked. 17 full songs, most bands do not perform for that long at all. Maybe Axl wasn't on fire because he doesnt rehearse with the band? That's why he's usually out of breathe/tune and can't sing most of the new songs properly on the beggining of the tour, I think.I don't know if Ron was angry, but he should. Everyone should. Waiting 2, 3, or even 4 hours for one man is a *REAL* pain. I saw with my eyes the interaction between the people on stage. I would call this 'viewing a performance', watching intently the people you've just paid to see. When Ron entered the stage in the intro he motioned with his hands to hurry up and gestured to his clock. Throughout the performance there were many gestures and patterns of behaviour that also suggested that Ron was royally pissed off! For example when Axl delayed the piano intro to the end section of 'November Rain' to have a long sip of water. The other reason that I can confirm this 'reach' is that I spoke to Ron at his hotel and he was furious. Hope that clears it up Ali. And I don't find it weird at all for anyone in the band to be pissed off about that.
