Exactly.

Thats a bit vague, you at least have to tell us where this originated from.

Guns rarely play 3 nights in a row.  But Green Day are most likely out of the running, they're playing Marley park

I recently wrote a letter to the company who run the concerts at Slane Castle, I effectively used hyperbole and stated there would be a great demand for Guns N' Roses, I explained the release of their latest album, the recent "Chinese Democracy World Tour", and reiterated the memories from 1992. Hopefully I've left a mark in their minds and this whole thing pans out nicely. : ok:

I agree, you have to think of the practicalities. Also I can't remember the last time GN'R did 3 nights in a row. Also at these festivals, they tend to start kind of early. So say if GN'R finished Slane at midnight, the crew would have to fly back over to England to set up the stage before the festival gates open around 11am. It would be really hard on the crew guys, but I suppose it's not impossible.

But lets wait and see.  :P

PS. Does the date have to be on the 28th?.

It would be nice if it were true, though we should remember Jarmo's topic on Ashba's gear. The guy finishes at - what was it - 5am or something? I'm not saying it is impossible, but it seems unlikely.

Thats what i said above.  RDS had plenty more room for more people.  and that holds a fair bit less than Slane.

the rds event was near enough full and if i remember rightly, robbie williams was playing the same night, as was some other major act that would have taken many casual fans attention away from gnr.

Logistics of this would be difficult.

In defense of the rumor, for what it's worth, I posted the article on another board yesterday, and it's been talked about for a few days. I don't believe it's an April Fools Day prank given it's fairly speculative at best - it's not like they're trumpeting the headliners as a certainty.

Also - not sure if the 28th date is set in stone. Wikipedia lists only the organizer saying it'll take place in August, with no specific date. The Slane Castle website does not list a date just yet.

Exactly, I'm on about the stage where the piano is under and I'm sure there will be some screens used by GN'R and other stuff like stairs or steps and the effects pedals. Also when GN'R Played the Download festival and Rock AM Ring in 2006, everything onstage was the same as if you was at a GN'R arena show. So yes, they probably will bring all their stage show to the festivals too, like in 2006.

 : ok:

Exactly, it would be almost impossible for GN'R to do Slane if the only available date is the 28th August. Eragon said that GN'R don't use their own stage at festivals which is not true. In 2006 they did, and I'm sure this year they will bring most of, if not all their stage show with them.

I don't know where Eragon got that from because, at Download, Rock AM Ring and Inland Invasion in 2006 they had the full stage just as if they were doing a headlining arena show.

One stage for todays gig in ireland lets say, and another on its way to germany for tomorrows gig while the irish gig is happenin. Does this make sense?

They might just play Ireland somewhere else before or after UK, not necessarily the 28th, would be a busy few days. In '92 Ireland was their first stop on the European leg of the tour. In '02 they played Leeds then played Belgium next day then back to England to play London two days later. In '06 they played London then over to Dublin two days after and back to UK to play Donigton.

No it would say Guns N' Roses plus special guests. It did in '92. Slane is a village in Ireland and the venue is on Slane Castle's grounds. It's not a festival called Slane...its a place. Its a unique venue as its in a large naturally bowl shaped field and has good acoustics as a result.

But surely if they are searching for the headline act then it wouldnt be a specific guns n roses gig which is the point im trying to get across. On various sites its listed is slane2010 which gives the impression of a general music event rather than a specific concert

Its a music event that happens once a year on the grounds of Slane Castle.  usually it is a big selling rock band that headlines.
To try an answer your question:  No, its not a specific Guns n Roses gig but they could be asked to perform at it.
If they decline, another band would be asked to headline.
So either way, the event will take place.  whether Guns headline depends on whether they are asked and if they accept.

But its a big show.  Last year The Prodigy and Oasis played.

I havent read all the thread so im not sure why its significant whether its a specific GNR show or not?   Cos the dates clashing with Reading/Leeds?

I hope this helped!  I think kings of Leon will be there anyways.  (Hopefully not headlining).

Title: Re: SLANE CASTLE 2010
Post by: jacdaniel on April 02, 2010, 09:04:20 AM
ill try to elaborate a bit more:

You could call it a one day festival but there is only one stage and 3 - 4 bands playing so there is a lot of pressure on the headliner to sell.
Its not like other festivals were a large amount of people are there for other acts.

And its one of the most predigious shows to be asked to headline

It would be great to see GNR back at Slane. I was there in 1992, what a day

GNR have a big following in Ireland. Always have. But I'am not sure if GNR would fill the place on their own today, but maybe with strong support Bands. They get crowds of 60-80 thousand at shows there these days.

just found this April Fools article regarding Guns appearance at Slane 2010

http://ticketsthere.com/2010/04/01/guns-n%E2%80%99-roses-for-slane-2010/ (http://ticketsthere.com/2010/04/01/guns-n%E2%80%99-roses-for-slane-2010/)

Sorry folks, all an April Fools Day joke BUT, keep an eye on TT because we?re 99% sure an Irish date is coming?but it won?t be Slane

Unconfirmed reports have tipped hard rock legends Guns N Roses to take the headlining spot at this year?s Slane Festival.

The band who are already being confirmed to play the Reading and Leed?s Festivals in August last played the venue on their Use Your Illusion World Tour in 1992.

PS...did you notice they called it a festival :lmao:

Well, to put this rumour to rest:

http://www.rte.ie/arts/2010/0403/slane.html

There will be no show at Slane this year, period.

Slane 2011 will happen however.

Looks like they couldn't get logistics sorted out for any bands, let alone GN'R. Likely that whole "the 28th is the only date possible" buggered things up.

Hopefully Guns can do some solo shows however. I'm really hoping for a massive European tour. Hell I want them touring for the rest of the year! It's just way more fun when they're active ;) If I wasn't flat broke I'd be on a plane to Reading this summer :P

You can get to those gigs for free if you apply to work at the gigs doing wristbanding, I did it last year at Electric Picnic, you work a couple of hours in the morning putting wristbands on people coming in. Then you get to enjoy the rest of the festival for free. Email wristband@festivalrepublic.com to enquire about working at whichever gig Reading or Leeds and they'll put you down on the list. Festival Republic do a few of those festivals www.festivalrepublic.com
