Title: Slash Set List Discussion
Post by: jacdaniel on March 04, 2010, 10:36:51 AM
hey, thought id create a thread were people can discuss their hopes for Slash's set list when he takes to the road.  With such a huge back catalogue, and the possibility of covers, i can't even begin to predict how it will go down! I do hope though, that they mix it up most nights and rehearse a heap load of songs before going out.

Id love if the show started with Nightrain! Then say "Do it for the Kids" and then into a bunch of new material, throwing in some GNR/VR to keep the crowd interested.   Overall, id like to see

5 or 6 GNR
8- 10 new songs
3 or 4 VR
maybe one or two surprise covers or something.

As for the band, can't wait to hear Myles on Vocals.
And how cool would it be if he could  get Izzy, Adler and Duff in the touring band!   Highly unlikely, but we did all think Franky would be on vocals.

10 - Nothing To Say
11 - Myles solo track
12 - Fall To Pieces
13 - Been There Lately
14 - Broken Wings
15 - Watch This
16 - Doctor Alibi
17 - Beautiful Dangerous
ENCORE
18 - By The Sword
20 - You Could Be Mine
21 - Sweet Child O' Mine
22 - Paradise City

With maybe some room for covers and stuff (and the obligatory guitar solo).

I would say about 8 new songs,.  As far as GNR you can probably expect to hear Its So Easy, Mr. Brownstone for sure, Slash usually stays away from the signature Guns stuff like Jungle.  Maybe Nightrain, Knockin on Heavns Door.  And probably a few VR songs, Slither, Fall to Pieces etc.  Doubtful to hear any Snakepit.

He said we'd hear Snakepit songs in the set too. I'm guessing Beggars n Hangers On, maybe Been There Lately.

oh yeah? I didn't hear that..nice...Hopefully Serial Killer is one they play.  For me that was always one of the Snakepit songs I wish they did when he was in GNR.

Interesting.  I read that they were in rehearsals.

Has he played this recently?

So....surprise, surprise....Slash and Co. will be playing Civil War during the tour.

I can't imagine anybody other than Axl singing Civil War.

Axl should bring it up from the basement before Slash does.

Didn't Slash say something to the effect that he'd be playing more obscure GNR songs?  As in, not the hits from AFD?  More songs from UYI, or am I just imagining this?

I think we are going to see alot of variety in what he plays from the GNR catalog. He plays PC at every one of the Slash concerts he has done, so I am expecting that will be a regular. Myles covers SCOM sometimes, and it is basically Slash's trademark song because of the intro, so I would expect that regularly as well. He has played Nightrain occasionally, but I would expect to see that regularly because Myles can handle it, and he hasn't really had a singer outside of the girl from McQueen he has felt confident enough in to let sing it.

I think Nightrain will rotate with the likes of a Civil War, Brownstone, or other GNR songs he plans to play. I can realistically see maybe 3-4 per show, but SCOM and PC will be staples I would suspect.

I may be wrong, but I am expecting considerably more setlist diversity than we got out of him in VR as he is now free of the politics inherent to a band situation when determining what to play. This is his show now, and with a singer that can handle anything he has far more room to experiment than he may have in the past.

Nightrain is Slash's fave song to play live though, so u can bet on that being in the set.

would love to hear some obscure UYI stuff, but what could they play outside Civil War? Would die if they broke out Dont Damn Me!

I figured it might be good to start a setlist discussion thread because I am sure people will have things to say about the various songs they played. Post any good links you find from shows in here as well.

4.10.2010 Roxy

Civil War was played, first time in a while I think.

I'd say less VR songs and more solo songs.. leave away Dirty Little Thing and Sucker Train Blues, eventhough they're among the best VR songs. Never heard of Rise Today before..

For the rest nice.. Mean Bone rocks for sure 8)

I'm surprised he didn't have more from his solo album, but maybe just wanted to play things people are more familiar with.  Glad to see Mean Bone included, though!

Well he only performed the songs with the vocalists who were present.  Wonder if Myles will take a stab at more of the songs or if they'll just play his 2 and have a guest appearance(s) as time goes.

Civil War - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRObE0EGf_c ( good angle )
Damn...I must say they do it pretty fuckin' solid. It's so good to hear Slash playing some of those Guns songs again!

I just noticed that.  M. Shadows wasn't there, was he?  And was that entire setlist played or was it like the GNR setlists we've seen in the past where they're just a guide and some of the songs we never hear?

Myles said before Beggars and Hangers On that they had "only been a band playing together for 13 days now." They sound pretty good all things considered that being the case.

Mean Bone is one of the worst Snakepit songs, I don't know how anyone could like it with those lame lyrics, and the "ooh baby" bits in the chorus.
They should bust out Dime Store Rock or something instead.
