An acoustic version of Jungle?  That would be interesting to hear.  If this is an acoustic show, it would be great to hear some of these arraignments.  Hopefully someone can confirm that this is an acoustic show, unless in my excitement I overlooked this being clarified.

Lol, God bless technology.  Despite this being recorded on a less-than-professional camera, Axl's voice sounds fantastic.  I'm jealous of all of you who get to hear Axl by the end of the tour; his voice seems to be getting better and better.

Guns n Roses Plays AC/DC For John Varvatos

Axl Rose took Guns n Roses out to play a private gig last night and threw a bit of AC/DC into the set.

Rose was in New York at what used to be CBGB`s to play at a private party for menswear fashion designer John Varvatos for New York Fashion Week.

The surprise in the set Axl Rose and Guns n Roses performing AC/DC?s ?Whole Lotta Rosie?.

Of course, Guns n Roses are not strangers to Australian rock. They covered Rose Tattoo?s ?Nice Boys? on ?G n R Lies?.

Coincidentally, both AC/DC and Rose Tattoo recorded for Sydney indie Albert Records.

There is a third Albert Records connect for Guns n Roses as well. Guns n Roses first Australia tour was with The Angels, who were also an Alberts act.

John Varvatos Clothing began in 1999 and debuted its first line in 2000. Varvatos was then licensed to create a Converse All-Star shoes range.

In 2003 the company became part of the Nautica Enterprises Group.

That is a cool setlist, I'd love to hear Jungle, This I love and Catcher acoustic. It's good seeing Tommy there too, the last time GN'R did something like this he was unavailable, I don't think it was because he hurt his hand as that happened just before the My Coke Festival, which led to them pulling out. But yes, Tommy's a legend so it's nice seeing him there.

This also gives me flashbacks to the Rosario Dawson Birthday show. There's a clip on youtube where they are playing November Rain, and when Robins doing the solo he gets so into it that even Richard turns and smiles at him.  :hihi:

All these acoustic shows are special, lets hope more video surfaces.

New York Fashion week is a big deal in the world in general. So for GN'R to get such a good reaction from people, is special, and shows GN'R are bigger than ever.

this is one of those moments just like the acoustic set in New York in 2006, where people other than us hardcore fans get a chance to be blown away by this band.

  Still good to see people taken notice, of the band. there have been more positive then neg, from what I read. But come on he cites that the set list is available and says only 3 CD songs were played, lol. when they basically have been playing the entire album..just to damn funny.

I was at the show on Thursday night,just recovering from the shock and awe of it all. Wow what started out to be a real shitty experience turned out to be an amazing one.
The crowd was horrid as it was filled with 95% fashion industry idiots, hipsters, trendy fatbacks, and starfuckers.
It was almost unbearable to be in Varvatos (CBGBs) waiting for the band to take the stage and I almost walked out a few times because it was so overcrowded you literally couldn't breathe. People were packed together like sardines.  I have been to 14 G N' R shows and have survived my share of insane crowds that felt like they were going to swallow you up by the pressure, but this was maybe the worst beacause of the tiny size of the venue.  I was ready to bail out cause I am frankly too old for this shit!  :hihi:
Three hours went by and though going into the venue I knew what to expect regarding the people who would be at this show, but having to be around them as the time went by almost made me leave. 
Thanks to my lovely girlfriend, she convinced me to stay, and man, am I glad I did.
As the hours went by, much of the crowd left (thank goodness) and we got a real good spot near the side of the stage about 6 rows of people back.

Once the band took the stage the crowd shifted and we then got an unbelievable spot about three rows back of the stage, right in front of Ron and Richard.
The band sounded amazing especially Axl who was just unbelievable on that small of a stage, and it felt like he was basically in my living room singing. Insane!
Finally got to hear "Catcher In The Rye" live and it was fuckin fantastic!

All the songs were killer semi-acoustic especially "Rocket Queen" and "Mr. Brownstone."
And "Sorry" just kicked all kinds of ass.
They did "Whole Lotta Rosie" and I think Axl just loves playing that song these days.  They rocked so hard on that.

Opening up with "You're Crazy" was a great surprise and the band was just so happy to be playing up there.
Axl was in great spirits and making eye contact with everyone in the audience, especially the few true fans there (you could literally count the ones who were really there to support them and were lucky to get in).
Just an unbelievable show. After "Paradise City" the crowd thought the show as over and everyone started leaving until Ron came on and said "We ain't done fuckers!"
The band came on for an encore of "Sweet Child O' Mine", "This I Love" (holy shit does Axl sing on this!) and "Nightrain."
I was now about 2 feet away from Axl and the band watching them play. It was very surreal.
Probably the closest I have ever seen Axl perform and I was front row for all the Vegas shows and Hammerstein shows.  It was like having him in your living room!  ;D
It was amazing just to watch him SING. Don't get me wrong, I love Axl running around the stage like a mad man and rather him do that than just stand there and hit every note perfectly, but at this show this was PERFECT.
He moved and danced but his main focus was on singing and holy shit did he sound fantastic.

What a show. What a night. It was my girlfriend's first G N' R show and this is exactly the way she dreamed of seeing them, semi-acoustic, in a small space, and small crowd!

Being born and raised in NYC I have seen many shows at CBGBs...never thought I would ever see G N' R play there!  I can now have a dog in the race when in a conversation with some of my older punk rock friends who brag about seeing Bowie, New York Dolls, The Ramones, etc. at CBGBs....I saw Axl Rose sing on that stage!!!  8)

With a crowd of local and international celebrities, fashionistas, and rock?n?roll lovers, the John Varvatos/L?Uomo Vogue event aroused the old spirit of the seminal underground music club CBGB?s with a concert for a packed house that lasted past 3:00 am. The stylish guests mingled as the evening began, and were ready to rock as Alberta Cross took the stage to perform. The crowd?s excitement grew with anticipation as they waited for over 2 hours for Axl to take the stage. The adrenaline escalated when Gun N? Just as I got home from the airport I got a text at like 1AM that G&R was going to be playing a surprise show in NYC at the old CBGB. It is now a store for clothes designer John Varvatos. Holly who handles my phones at Sirius/XM lives in NYC and went. Turns out Axl and the band played a long acoustic set in the early hours today. She said it was amazing and Axl looked and sounded great. Photos Holly took will be posted on this site very soon from this special event. I've heard Axl will be hangin in NYC for a few weeks, so you never know if he might pop in again at some point on the radio shows, lets hope.

I know.  It bums me out so many of these people that are in these crowds are there because they are in "the scene."  I know these are being done because of fashion week and that scene goes hand in hand with that, but I literally was able to look around the venue and count on one hand how many true G N' R fans were there and having the experience I was.
If they do another one in NYC I really hope more fans get the opportunity to see it.

By the way, there was a guy standing right by me the entire show, who filmed the whole performance on his digital camera.  Not sure if that will turn up eventually, or he will be like one of these scumbags who hold back amazing bootlegs from the true fans in their little sick underground "trading" worlds, but the show was definitely captured from this man's point of view by the side of the stage.

While only Fashion Week can persuade Guns N' Roses to play a secret show for 200 fans, it can't force frontman Axl Rose to turn up on time. The rock wildman was nearly three hours late for his show, leaving the well-heeled crowd -- including designer John Varvatos, p.r. icon Kelly Cutrone, One Model Management chief Scott Lipps and photographer Mick Rock -- waiting in a sweaty VIP area until just before 1 a.m. yesterday for the band to take the stage at the Varvatos store in the East Village. Once onstage, Rose -- who one guest said looked like Mickey Rourke in "The Wrestler" -- wouldn't stop and played until 3 a.m. The band continued the party at E__P, the music venue downstairs, until 5 a.m., when Axl shouted, "We're going to a club." it looks like a lot of people were recording the concert (not sure how much of it). Look at the photos and you can see people using their cameras. Not sure how the audio would sound, but you know a place like that is going to have security cameras. 'Course seriously doubt something like that would be released

Knowing the "community" of traders and whatever who share shows (1987 CBGB, 1991 Mr. Brownstone video) twenty years later, I'd think he will hold his tape for himself and will never share it on DIME or whatever.
I was at Paris Bercy in 2006. A fan filmed almost all of the show just in front of me and asked me to move and all to film the show, I gave her my email address so she could give the video to me but I never heard any news. Since then, I don't trust any "filmers" or whatever doing whatever they want at concerts. Good for them if they keep them for their Sunday afternoons.

Ok, time for my review -
Let me start by saying that this was hands down the greatest night of my life, I'm still in shock!!!

My night started at another concert at The Highline Ballroom where my friends local NYC band - The Party Death were playing (very heavy GNR influenced band, check em' out you'll all love them, the guitarist goes by the name Jack Nightrain)
At around 12am I got a text from a friend also at the concert saying "I'm getting texts from people saying GNR's playing at the Bowery right now" I had no clue GNR were even in New York, but without even thinking I found her, we left the concert and while waiting for a cab we started hearing all these different rumors saying yeah they already played it was only 4 songs, or yeah its at Rose bar you'll never get in,or  yeah its at CBGB's I think its over and you'll never get in... we got a cab straight to CBGB's only cause that made the most sense. There was security there but not a big crowd so after a couple of minutes they just let us in. I ran to the back by the stage got right up front not even knowing if anything was gonna happen, then after a couple of minutes I saw the Bassist of Baz's band who I saw last Saturday at The Starland Ballroom in NJ (Amazing Show) started talking to him he told me "Yeah Guns N Roses are about to come out, everyone's here Sebastian etc...
That was the last moment I remember, I woke up the next morning and my face was all soar from smilling so much... it still is!

We all know that GNR will give the REAL fans more than a few major venue shows within striking distance during our leg of the tour but also they'll include a bunch of these smaller venue shows as after-parties or whatever that the hard-cores always manage to find.  :yes:

So youze should just do what I do and try to put a positive spin on those "scene" peoples being at this show.  I mean it's gotta make you chuckle a little bit just imagining what's going through "those peoples" minds starting at around say 10:01 pm  :hihi:

The handful of REAL fans knew how to bide their time because they knew something amazing was going to happen.  While those "scene" peoples finally got their money's worth out of those really really expensive watches they were wearing.  :rofl:

yea but no need to get hostile to fashion freaks and casual fans. that's like a general musicl fan feeling awkward toward diehards. at least they aren't living in the 80s/90s. besides, actually many fashion designers/writers love Gn'R. They never hesitate in showing their love for GN'R at every fashion week. I always thought it amusing when music writers and its tools were claiming the band was 'out'. really who's the fashion victim?

I've always wondered what Jungle would sound like done acoustically, and it owns. I also love how in the Sweet Child video the band are playing the intro really mellow and soft, then Tommy comes in with the bass and rocks the hell out of it.  ;D

Just as I got home from the airport I got a text at like 1AM that G&R was going to be playing a surprise show in NYC at the old CBGB. It is now a store for clothes designer John Varvatos. Holly who handles my phones at Sirius/XM lives in NYC and went. Turns out Axl and the band played a long acoustic set in the early hours today. She said it was amazing and Axl looked and sounded great. Photos Holly took will be posted on this site very soon from this special event. I've heard Axl will be hangin in NYC for a few weeks, so you never know if he might pop in again at some point on the radio shows, lets hope.

Yeah I mentioned before.  I listened to Eddie's Sirius/XM show on Monday night on Sirus 19 The Boneyard from 6-10PM.  He mentioned the GNR gigs at the beginning of the show and how Holly went to the first one.  He sounded like he wanted to talk about it more but he had 2 guests on, which took up about 2 hours of the show and music took up about another hour.  And nobody who called in brought up GNR.  So next week, maybe we should call and force the issue.  I tried to call towards the end of the show, the last call in portion of the show, but couldn't get through.

"Guns N' Roses came to the Bowery store to headline New York Fashion Week and they were meant to perform four songs for me. In the end, they played for two and a half hours solid. It was a complete surprise and an amazing show that was talked about for weeks. One of the guys from ZZ Top said it was one of his five greatest moments in music."
