And although they don't actually officially announce it, it looks to be a sure thing. The promoter even has quotes saying about the costs and not fearing Axl's no-shows and all that.

In that article it says that it isn't confirmed yet, and they've been negotiating for a while. But the full program of the festival should be released in one week, so I guess we'll see then.

The promoter also says that GnR's tourschedule isn't ready for the summer.

They sold out both shows in Finland and the show in Sweden. In Norway they sold out the first show, don't know the attendance for the second, but I would guess pretty good since the first one sold out in less than 20 min.

Denmark had a festival date.

Pretty exciting news.. but I won't say anything before it's announced officially. But it's great to hear someone's really trying to get the band play here :) If that's the location for the festival, it's going to be pretty early curfew..

i might have heard an Italian rumour recently as well altho that doesn't sound as strong as this one.

There was also a rumor that there were talks about a show in Zagreb, Croatia.

I just hope they'll do their own shows instead of festivals.

So far there has been no indication that a European section is in the current schedule, there have been several unreliable rumours but nothing that is really concrete. Let's face we've seen these articles time and time again, so let's wait to see what the contents of the next band annoucement is, which I can't see happening until during the South American dates.

You're right, it does seem logical (and maybe - probably? - they will come to Europe). I'm just saying I'm not sure, because we haven't seen anything concrete so far about Europe (meaning ticket sales), and I'm also a bit surprised they're not playing in the US.

The rumor came from the venue itself, the promoter wouldn't confirm or deny it. They only said they were  in contact with different managements.

I can only assume Guns N' Roses is one of the considered. The media has really only focused on the possibility of it being either Guns N' Roses or Aerosmith. Since Aerosmith is sort of up in the air right now - singer-wise, Guns N' Roses is the best bet for the "biggest act" on their list.


There will be big-name shows on these venues this year, but nothing has been announced yet.

I just said I'm not sure, but I also said it would be logical that they'd come here. Right now I'm happy for Canadian and South American fans, as I was glad for Asian fans in December. For Europe, we will see in a few months I guess. It'd be great to see them again, of course. :)

Most festivals Guns N' Roses played in 2006 already booked their headliners. This year it's mostly Muse, Rammstein, Green day and Pearl Jam..

The promoter & co are saying they'll know definitely in 1-2 weeks, who's gonna perform at this festival

I'm sure GN'R will come to Europe soon whether it be festivals or arenas. These kind of rumours are promising, but remember rumors are just that 'rumors'. I loved the UK & Europe 2006 tour and I'm sure GN'R know they will always get passionate fans here.  :)

So sit back and enjoy what we've already had like the amazing Canadian tour, and look forward to the upcoming South American tour which I'm certain will be special.

I hope the band plays the U.S. (i live there, or here, or whatever) but honestly i'll be excited about them playing anywhere. I just want to see the mighty GnFnR machine continue to roll and kick ass, wherever that may be. This band deserves to be heard by everyone!  And now that i have my passport, maybe i'll hop on a plane and check them out someplace cool that i've never been before.  : ok:  I'll just continue to rock vicariously through these HTGTH updates til i can see them again.

Now the other Finnish tabloid, Iltasanomat (http://www.iltasanomat.fi/viihde/uutinen.asp?id=1916073&ref=lk_is_vi_1), is using the (unconfirmed) news about the Swedish concert as proof that GN'R is coming to Finland.

The Finnish promoter is once again "refusing" to comment other than saying that negotiations are still under way and "it's looking good".

Well almost every tour starts with a rumour here or there, so this is by no means a bad thing. I would love for this to happen though, a European tour with dates in the UK, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Sweden, finland and Germany, just like 2006 would be amazing. I'm sure if there is a European tour in the works we will hear many more rumours before it is confirmed.

Lets just be glad GN'R are touring somewhere in the world, and when it's Europes turn, we will know.   :)

I don't really put much weight on what Itasanomat or Iltalehti and the likes have to say, the only reason I think this might actually be plausible is the fact that the promoter is talking about it.. He said he's not going to promise anything until it's 110% sure and he has the signed contracts in his hand.. So I guess we'll have to wait. But if they're going to start selling tickets next week, then I'd sure as hell like to know if GN'R will be there, cause that's the only band I'm gonna travel to Helsinki for  :hihi:

Also, generating a little buzz around a potential gig before all the business details are worked out isn't the worst thing in the world. Especially if it means more people end up buying a ticket to a GNR show.

On YLE I read that a man also organizing the event told off the promoter and they're kinda retracting now but not fully, I guess just waiting to see what happens with their negotiations. Here's hoping  :beer:

I know what you're saying here jarmo, it's the nature of the beast.

Any promotor knows GN'R are a big name, so if they can associate themselves with them to sell more tickets they will. Especially with festivals, they do this in the hope of people buying tickets because they are scared if GN'R are confirmed there won't be any tickets left.

I love Rock in Rio to bits, but does everybody remember in 2008 where they had the Axl silhouette on the website a couple of weeks before they announced the headlining acts. It's something alot of promotors do, and have been doing for a while.

Yeah, it's a one day festival. First time they organize this. Danko Jones is there too, and more performers will be announced soon.

The biggest problem? This is right in the middle of Helsinki, thousands of people living right by the sports center area. The curfew is probably 10 PM so they must start early too. But didn't Axl do that in Asia, starting earlier in the evening, I mean.

I don't think this Axl will make the fans suffer by getting on late when he knows there's a curfew. Just like in Dublin in 2006.. they were scheduled for 8pm and they started 8 pm sharp. He even joked about how nice it was seeing the sun again ;)

I think the ticket price is not that bad, as it is a one day festival. So the place holds about 70 000 people and is located pretty close from the center of Helsinki. So it's easy to get there too. I'm just wondering how they got the permission to have a festival there, I thought those football fields are one of the best in Helsinki today and the grass is well protected (and this has already been noted among the football fans in Finland, they're getting pretty angry :P). But I'm just glad GN'R won't play in the Olympic Stadium as so many other big bands do in Finland.

I don't think it will be a problem, just find someone from Finland to get you a ticket. That's the safest way I think.. I don't know if they (www.lippu.fi) sell tickets straight to Sweden.

This evening with GNR is going to be amazing, i don't care about other bands (Alice In Chains (rumoured), The Prodigy or Danko Jones either), so that ticket price is quite high but what the hell, THIS IS IT!  : ok:

I contacted Lippupiste and they said that it is possible to buy tickets from other countries too, but shipping is 20? for every order.

Lippu.fi allows you to enter the country when you register and site is also available in Swedish....

They also seem to offer printable e-tickets for at least some events.

There were rumors of shows in both Stavanger and Bergen. The Stavanger one won't happen since they've announced another artist for the date in question. Probably rules out Bergen as well since it was the same promoter I think.

I hope they'll do something in either Valle Hovin or Telenor Arena.

When I've got my ticket  I'm gonna take the ferry, Stockholm-Helsinki . I can recomend it for any concertgoers from abroad. It's a nice trip.

And for those who are staying in the center of Helsinki, you can get to the festival area by train. I think that's the easiest way, although the trains are going to be very crowded. Anyone remember the two-unit train leaving Pasila after the first GN'R show in Hartwall Arena 2006? That was some kind of a trip, the conductor got thrown out of the train at one point ;D And only about 50% of the people waiting for that train actually fitted in.

If the show ends at about eleven, the trains are definitely still running. And I think there'll be some sort of extra trains and buses for this festival, so I don't think it will be a problem :) In 2006 when there was no extra trains (and not even extra units on the train), the last one left Pasila about 2.30.

I think it will end at 10 pm. All the city festivals (Tuska, Sauna Open Air) always end at 10 pm, I think there?s some kind of rule for that. I really hope we get a long setlist. This article is mostly about the Finnish football fans complaining about this festival ruining the grass, but it also says that the capacity is 40 000 (and that's the amount of tickets coming on sale on wednesday), but the promoter has asked for a permission for a larger capacity, which would probably be 70 000. There is also 6-8 international names to be announced.. I think they'll announce some of them before the tickets go on sale

I'm not an expert on beer but I bet that inside the festival area you have to pay 6-8 euros for beer. But in the bars on the town you can find places that sell large beers (0,5 litres) even for 2 e. 4 euros is probably the average price in bars.

Online ticket buyers should prepare themselves that the ticket store will work extremely slowly and will crash down all the time. That has "always" happened with lippu.fi when a big concert is coming and the ticket sales open. This time it's not even Guns alone, but for some hugely stupid reason also Pink tickets start selling there at the same time...

That's true. You can also buy tickets from www.tiketti.fi, but I don't know if it's any better. I'm going with the phone, I think it's the safest :P

Maybe, if we have people here who live in Helsinki or are very familiar with it, could suggest places to meet up at? I'll be in the center of Helsinki, no plans yet as to what time we'll be going to the festival.. But a central, 'easy to find' place would probably be best for most, since there's even people from the UK coming  :hihi: So, let's hear some suggestions!  :peace:

Oh and I'm arriving on the 5th around 11am.

Well I'm very familiar with Helsinki but not with the bars etc. (apart from Elmo which is the meeting place for the Finnish football supporters) ;) But that's not the place for us to meet, as most of those fans are already complaining about this show and I don't think they'd be friendly with people coming in sporting GN'R-shirts.

But I'm definitely coming if we manage to meet up before the show :peace:

What's the law in Helsinki about drinking in public? In some cities it's prohibited, right? I was just wondering if there'd be an outside place where we could meet at, PYOB or something, if we can't think of a good bar for it. Or maybe there's a place near the festival?

Between the center of Helsinki (the railway station) and the festival, you have the Kallio area. There's a bunch of bars there...

OK, I have the airport Vantaa, as being right next to the venue, am I looking at this right?.

Also can anyone from Finland or Jarmo tell me how the language barrier is. Would I be OK if I don't know any Finnish or Swedish?.

No, that's something wrong with Google Maps. The airport is about 15 minutes away by car.

You can take a bus (615 I believe) from the airport and it actually passes the venue (as far as I remember).




English is just fine unless you start talking to some really old people...

Haha, exactly :D There's a cool shirt that has the (ridiculously) simple map of the Helsinki subway, and beneath it says "Lost in Helsinki". I thought it was hilarious...

So they've sold a little over 10 000 tickets now.. according to Ilta-Sanomat (http://www.iltasanomat.fi/viihde/uutinen.asp?id=1990355).
As far as I know, that's a pretty normal pace for festival tickets in Finland.

It's an okay number considering the "it's not Guns N' Roses anymore and Axl's a fat dick" crowd also in Finland, so far very lackluster supporting cast in the festival, and about 25% higher than normal ticket price (since there really is no other star name to justify it).
 

People aren't in a hurry to buy festival tickets. Especially when they know more will be made available if the first 40,000 would sell out in a day!

Haha, Yes don't take the listed ending time as set in stone especially when GN'R are performing. To be fair, I feel that 11pm is way too early anyway to end, for any show. I would have thought that 12.00/1.00am is much more realistic.

Well yeah, but in Finland there are these...how would you say...rules/laws about playing music/conserts in the city area and I don?t know how easy it is to break them. All city festivals (Tuska/Sauna Open Air) usually ends at 10 pm. Well, but let?s hope for the best  :)

Festival organizer said that Prodigy don't want to play in a daylight and obviously in Finland 8pm-9pm sun is still shining. No light show etc etc. This might be bs, but it was the official statement the promoter gave us.

I think we should really decide something soon.. in my opinion the best way to get to the venue is by train (takes about 5min + little walking), not via Kallio. So how about meeting somewhere close to the city center? As I understand most of the GN'R-fans coming from other cities/countries are staying in hotels that are located there anyway.

On The Rocks is right next to the railway station and they got a nice terrace too (if it's a sunny day, it will be 150% full of people though).. but I don't know, I'll go with what you guys want to do :P But I know Helsinki very well and I've lived there for years so I'm just trying to get this thing going. I'm not from Helsinki, so anyone with better knowledge of local bars do make suggestions for a possible meeting place.

And as Jarmo said, the railway station is easy to find. And if you can't find it you can ask just about anybody for the direction. There are many bars/restaurants in the area, most notably On The Rocks, Tavastia, Bar Loose and Virgin Oil Co.

I'll be heading straight to the venue, but I'll give some information about my clothing etc later, so that if somebody from HTGHT sees me, you can always come and say hello  : ok:

Michael Monroe had some pretty harsh comments about GNR in 2002 when he opened for them (I think that was in Japan). I'm sure he'll change his mind once he watch the current lineup. If not, well, fuck him! :P

I don't think Mike has or has had any problems with GN'R, he said the band looked a little lost on stage compared to the old line-up. And Hanoi Rocks never opened for GN'R. Didn't the whole thing begin when the organizers moved Hanoi to another stage at the Summer Sonic Festival? It was something about Axl being scared that the crowd would react more to Hanoi than to GN'R.

And if you didn't know, he said many good things about Axl, the new songs and GN'R in 2006 and was sad that he couldn't see them in Helsinki as Hanoi Rocks was on tour in central Europe at the same time. I don't think there's any bad blood between Axl and Mike.

So fun if they did Aint it Fun together. Want to se Mike but the Bumble meet n greet is a once in a lifetime :drool:

I'm nervous about the schedule because GNR should start @ 21:00, but because this is city-festival, there should be silence at 22:00 (or 23:00), because there's people living nearby the venue. But it can't be done this way?  :nervous: It would be a huge disaster if GNR isn't able to play at least 1,5 hour set.

I think the band and the festival organizers are aware of that, so I think there is some kind of a plan to make the show as long as possible. I think the curfew is 23:00 in this area. Altough they are pretty strict with it in Helsinki ("I want to live in the city but can't stand any noise") and they have even cut out the power in some cases to stop the show.. I don't think this will happen this time. Haven't GN'R always played a full set even if there was a curfew..?

Probably yes. It's much easier that way. There are no people living right next to the venue so I don't think it would be a problem to let the band close the set. And yes, I remember the curfew being 11pm instead of 10pm. I think it's 10pm when the concert is held at the Olympic Stadium or at Finnair Stadium. And it doesn't even make sense to put GN'R up for one hour.

Yeah well the gates are closed at 11 pm, so I would imagine people should be out by then.

I just don?t see any point in this and I?m sooooo deeply disappointed. Why pay a huge amount to get G n?R here and then not let them play a full set? I?m really not interested in any of those other bands, so I?m paying only to see them. Why couldn?t it be just G n?R + 1 support held inside?

Helsinki Live has a FB account, but they don?t answer any questions there or elsewhere. And in Finland people DO whine. If they continue playing like after 10 pm, I?m sure some people call the police right away  :crying:

No, I didnt know that. But I didnt say Monroe had any problems with Axl, but just that he wasnt very nice about the band in 2002 (as far as I remember, it wasnt just "a little lost").

But an Aint it Fun duet would indeed be fucking awesome, thats my favorite GNR cover (not counting Dust in the Wind and Sailing, both live perfomances).

less than a 2 hour set would be a disappointment for me i'm afraid, given the length of most of the shows so far,they average well over 2 hours i'd guess.

an 11pm curfew is reasonable if the band go on on time, cant see why they wouldn't allow the band to finish their set if they only have 15 - 20 mins to go?

Propably 10-15 000. Keskinen said now, that they?d be pleased with 17 000 sold tickets. Pretty far from those originally expected 60-70 000 amounts  ;D

It's pretty much a GN'R gig with a festival label and ticket price.

They never announced any replacement for The Prodigy.


How many tickets will the rest of the bill sell?

I mean, most of the other acts would probably play at Tavastia if they played in Helsinki on their own....

The line up isn't amazing either apart from guns, maybe this explains the poor sales. (especially when prodigy pulled out)

edit: agree with jarmo, it does appear that the whole 'festival' badge was a bit of a con. Its a GNR  gig with extended support acts! sure it will be an awesome show anyway, be great to see axl and the band once again!

A lot of people can't just spend 90? just like that on a ticket months in advance. Some will wait until the last minute and others will wait to see how the weather will be since it's outdoors.

Well I think the 40-70 000 expectations were way over line. Finland is a small country, so 15 000 is great. And I?m happy with that number, 60 000 would?ve been way too much, I wanna see something  ;D And that weekend is very bad, the schools end, high school graduates etc.

I think Kaisaniemi with G n?R and max 1-2 other bands would?ve been great and it also would?ve been full with that amount of people. That?s how I would?ve done it  ;D

I'm not even considering this as a festival anymore, it's just a GN'R concert with a couple of warm-ups. But that's ok 'cause I don't care about the other bands :P But when I heard about this Helsinki Live Festival for the first time, I said that it's not going to be that huge and something's going to happen. It's been so weird from the start. I think it would have been good to just get GN'R do a show or two at Hartwall Arena.

Wouldnt be worried about curfew, they will go on @9pm and play till 11 and maybe a little after.
When they played Dublin, they went on on time due to Curfew.

The festival updated their schedule a bit (http://www.helsinkilivefestival.fi/fi/aikataulu (http://www.helsinkilivefestival.fi/fi/aikataulu)). GNR starting half an hour earlier - in the schedule, at least. The festival's Facebook update also claims with capital letters that Guns N' Roses will do a long set in Helsinki. Also, earlier it said that the gates will be closed at 11 pm, now that's an hour later, too. That probably doesn't have anything to do with the music curfew, though.

A little more info added: "Biggest outdoor stage ever seen in Finland."

Anybody knows if it's possible to enter and re-enter the "festival" area?

According to the sources of Iltalehti, Kimi R?ikk?nen will be meeting his good friend Axl Rose on friday. The meeting will probably take place at Kimi's luxurious villa in Porkkala. Plans for the evening include some finnish sauna, among other things. Kimi has a busy schedule, since he' is supposed to be racing at a show in Austria on saturday. Four years ago, during GNR's last visit to Finland Axl and Kimi partied several nights in a row at Teatteri restaurant in Helsinki. Wheteher or not Kimi will make it in time for Guns' show on saturday remains to be seen.

Saturdays mega concert will be a test of how suitable the K?pyl? Sports Park is for a festival location. Headliners of the Helsinki Live! -festival Guns N? Roses will take the stage at  20.30, although there might be some delays.

A hit parade is expected. At least Sweet Child O Mine, November Rain, Don't Cry and Knockin On Heavens Door are possible songs on the set list. The tour is named Chinese Democracy after the new album. The band has been touring in South and Central America and arrives to Finland from Norway.
Frontman Axl Rose has proven himself a colourful person, who won't settle for just anything. The band has hired some additional finnish security in addition to their own. Axl Rose has also submitted a substantial raider to the promoters. Sound and lighting must be absolutely top notch. According to another finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat, expensive champagne and cigars are also on the list.

Another artist performing at the festival is Michael Monroe, frontman of  Hanoi Rocks who played an important role in the formation of Guns N' Roses. Axl Rose himself has stated, that without Hanoi Rocks there would be no Guns N' Roses. Monroe may make a guest appearance at Guns' show.
The concert has attracted enough attention for promoter Kalle Keskinen to probably at least break even from the ticket sales. A total of 40 000 tickets are being sold.

Million dollar gig

Guns N' Roses, performing in Helsinki on Saturday, is the most expensive artist guest of the summer.

Promoter Kalle Keskinen says the price to bring the band to Finland is "close to a million dollars". In Euros, that's about 815 000.

- I don't think there's a more expensive band in Finland this summer, the promoter says,

About 14000 tickets have been sold to the event held in K?pyl? Urheilupuisto. The event breaks even if 18000 tickets are sold.

- There is a risk, but I'm confident.

The ticket buyers have been interested in Axl Rose and his partners during the last few days.

- Many people get their tickets in the last minute. There will be a lot of tickets sold still on Friday and Saturday, Keskinen believes.

Promoter thinks that this Saturday is very unpredictable as a concert day. The day is the graduation day in schools in Finland.

- But we couldn't really say, "Hey Axl, could you come here a week later".

One thing to be a bit nervous of is will the singer known for his flexible schedules be on the stage on time. Axl Rose arrived on Finland already on Thursday.

So what time will  people be hitting On the Rocks?

Been spending the day in Helsinki and actually met DJ and Dizzy :D They were very cool with the fans. I also saw the guys from AC/DC wandering around.. Strange day. They're staying at the same hotel with GN'R.

14 hours until my plane takes off towards Helsinki  ;D  I probably won't sleep a wink  :hihi:

The stage has three runways in Helsinki too, I was little worried about it being a "festival stage", but it looks really good!
