Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: jazjme on January 25, 2010, 12:51:30 AM seroiusly when you think about it, all other bands only do what 1 , or 2 songs, as encore , the word should be changed to act 2 or something.cant think of the right word atm.!
Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: inlikeflynn420 on January 25, 2010, 12:57:18 AM If they play TWAMFT (i love that, btw!) and Rocket Queen in Toronto i will be soooo happy. Of course, I will be happy no matter what they play, but they are my 2 favorite tunes off their respective albums. When "Appetite" came out, i thought "Rocket Queen" was the song that most set GnR apart from every other rock band out at the time and even more so gave a glimpse of what this band was capable of. UYI showed more of that promise, and CD really delivers it. It's nice watching these updates in my time zone! I won't be so cranky at work in the morning. Only a few more days now...

Had a great time. Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: Fingers on January 25, 2010, 02:07:19 AM Good show, Axl seemed in a really good mood, didn't do a whole lot of talking, but was kidding around a lot with the other band members-Axl's mic went out at the end of Paradise City but he didn't seem upset about it, which in years past I think would have pissed him off-Ashba has a great stage presence-he I liked Bucket and Robin a lot, but these guys interact with the crowd a lot more, just smiling and stuff at people, and for some reason to me that made a difference-best song of the night for me was November Rain, mainly because I really haven't heard it live since the '06 tour, and I still like the way it showcases all 3 guitar players-Tommy is still great and fun to watch-it's funny how he looks basically the same after all these years, but every tour Axl and dizzy have a totally different look-I've been a Guns fan for over 20 years, but I think with Dizzy, today I would not recognize him walking down the street..lol-he's less animated onstage than the last few tours...the top half of the venue was closed, but a nice size crowd
Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: Estranged#9 on January 25, 2010, 02:13:23 AM nice review fingers and yes i kinda was thinking the same thing about Dizzy this tour !!
Cut the hair and grew a beard, and is kinda keeping to himself !! kinda quiet ??? Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: Fingers on January 25, 2010, 02:39:19 AM It's hard to see Dizzy with this stage setup-he also wore kind of a suit, kind of what Tommy would wear-I'm 37-I know as you get older, you just tend to move a bit less..lol-it's no knock on him-before the tour I assumed Axl would play piano on This I Love, so it's good for him that he's featured on Street of Dreams and TIL

Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: downzy56 on January 25, 2010, 05:00:01 AM Wow, tonight was a late one... just crawling into bed but figured I'd write a review.
First off, never have I heard Axl sing so well. The man is a legend possessed. I've seen this band play 10 times since 2002 and tonight was easily his best vocally. How he doesn't blow out his vocal chords is beyond me. And other than the silly technical difficulty at the very end of Paradise City I have to give hats off to the sound guys for mixing his vocals properly. There were times where I felt like he was pitch perfect to what we hear on the albums, especially the new ones. His vocals on 'Sorry' were spot on. The highlight of the night for me was defintely TWAT. Thanks GNR for playing this amazing song; I finally got to hear it live and it didn't disappoint. I was somewhat surprised that Axl abridged the ending; starting singing just as Bumblefoot was playing the really sweet part of the solo. Not sure if this was done or purpose or Axl presumed it was his time to sing (this actually happened a few times tonight; either Axl or the rest of the band botched the beginning of Mr. Brownstone - no big deal however). But yeah, Axl's screaming vocals at the end of TWAT were fucking unreal. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up. My buddy was blown away; he was expecting Axl a la 2002 MTV Music awards and was ecstatic about how great he sounded, especially in TWAT. And I had no idea how TIL would come off live; I was really nervous for this song. But thankfully the song is even better live than it is recorded. I haven't heard any of the bootlegs yet so I was pleasantly pleased with how well this song comes off live. Axl, again, sounded fantastic. Rocket Queen was phenomenal; it just seemed like the band was firing on all cylinders at this point. Standout guitar solos were Bumblefoot's and DJ Ashba's. My seat was 10 rows up from stage left (Ashba's side) so there were a few moments where I got to rock out with Ashba; got my first pump/pointing reciprocated by DJ so that was pretty cool. One thing that made me laugh was when DJ noticed that a guy sitting in the front row had yet to get off his chair. He walked over, stared down at the dude, stopped playing and folded his arms. Basically saying, "I'm not playing until you get off you're ass." Sure enough the dude was up and fist pumping in no time. As for the drawbacks; nothing major EXCEPT FOR SECURITY. Probably the worst case of security overkill I have ever seen. I get that you don't want people taking pictures, but when you're telling people to stop texting it gets a little ridiculous. I got a flashlight pointed in my face while I texted my friend where we were going to meet after the show. They then went after a 16 year old girl who sending a text behind me. I told the security to fuck off and to be reasonable. They said that since phones could be used as a camera that we weren't even allowed to open them. Absolute bullshit. If anyone in the GNR camp is reading this please have someone talk to security so this overkill stops 'cause it completely ruins the mood. If I'm holding my phone up to take pictures, say whatever the fuck you want, but if I've got down and I'm pushing fucking buttons, I'm pretty sure I'm NOT taking a damn photo. In terms of band drawbacks, guess a little disappointed no Patience, but not a huge deal. Also really think Dizzy should rethink his piano solo. Not necessarily saying that a piano solo is a bad thing, but have it something recognizable. I have no idea what he was playing and really didn't do much for me. Also thought of all the newer songs, 'Scraped' seemed the most flat and not received as well as some of the other newer songs. All in all, a damn fine show. Axl definitely seemed in good spirits and the band looked like they were having a great time. Too bad the security seemed hell bent on not letting anyone else enjoy themselves. Super cool: Baz watched the whole show 10 rows in front of me. And he was rocking out like he was GNR's biggest fan. That guy is too awesome. I'm so glad Axl and co. brough Baz back to open. Looking forward to London tomorrow. I'll post a review like this when I get back. Cheers, Andrew Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: downzy56 on January 25, 2010, 05:02:10 AM It seems the show was wonderful! : ok: I'll comment more in the afternoon? Thought the crowd was a little weak. Turns out the 59$ cheap seats that ticketmaster posted didn't exist as they didn't sell any - ticketmaster always said none available but I guess they never were because the second level was completely empty. I was kinda shocked given Hamilton is a rock town. The crowd seemed kinda tame. Spectacular show by Axl and the guys though. TWAT and TIL were the highlights for me. They also tore up YCBM and RQ. Crowd seemed really receptive to the new songs.
I was further back and didn't have any of the security nightmares other people have mentioned. For those asking the paper put the show at about 5,500. Hoping to see at least double that in Toronto Thursday! The band puts on a very high energy show and it really is something special. Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: suntorytime on January 25, 2010, 07:59:58 AM Thanks for the updates and the reviews!
Weird Scraped and ITW sounded so fn great in the domes in Japan. Like downzy56 A piano technician who went to the Tokyo night to hear cd songs is commending the pa guys as well on his blog. He wasn't expecting those songs to come off so excellently in a live setting and Tokyo dome has a bad rep about the sound. He also thinks the guitar trio is somewhat mightier than the 3 guitars of iron maiden. (I don't know the latter guitars) Oh well, youtube critics always have to know better than us. Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: Adam_Guill on January 25, 2010, 08:05:01 AM yeah, dizzy seems to be playing the harmonics rather than the melody during his solo so ziggy is a little less recognizable, i'm sure he's got his reasons tough
Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: Christian on January 25, 2010, 08:10:53 AM About Dizzy Reed:
He's doing a lot of backing vocals too, so that may explain why he's quieter onstage than 2006 And i love his piano solo Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: cotis on January 25, 2010, 08:46:38 AM That's weird security is so rough, were you in the pit close to the stage?
I've heard many times that this place's security is pretty lax. Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: ppbebe on January 25, 2010, 09:15:59 AM thanks jarmo for the updates. and thanks everyone for the reviews
the hardcore fans Axl mentioned must be you from fan forums. :D Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: Neemo on January 25, 2010, 09:20:24 AM was a great gig
and really cool to meet Jarmo, AxlsMainMan & KeVoRkIaN  there was a bit of body surfing mostly by the same couple guys, but yeah it shocked me to actually see them come into the crowd...saw a couple people get booted Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: Axlfanatic on January 25, 2010, 11:09:04 AM Awesome. I mean Awesome show last nite guys. waited in line since about 2pm &I was the first 1 into the arena & picked a perfect spot on the rail just off to the side of the stage. The first thing that struck me is how good Axl looks & How fit he is. The man has more energy than a 2 year- old on crack!
GnR has definately taken things to a whole new level. Axl's voice was so powerful & the band was so tight . I sweaR IT BROUGHT TEARS to my eyes! Axl is really enjoying himself & seeems to have really good chemistry with the band. I like that they keep making small changes in the Setlist. Axl & Tommy would always discuss what was next. I'm soo, so Glad they played TWAT!! definitley the highlite of the night. we had been screaming for it all nite & I swear to god it worked. Axl sung it so powerfully, it made the hair stand up on the back of my next several times. I just couldn't contain my self at that point, the xperience was simply surreal! Of course all guitarists shredded all night long & DJ fit in seammessly. Loved the James bond solo! Awesome. I'm also really glaAD i GOT TO HEAR SCRAPED, SHACKLERS, TWAT, TIL but I am dissapointed no IRS, Out to Get Me & Catcher, but I think that's abit tough for AXl to sing. Those were small dissapointments. The show really was note for note perfect & the stage setup was immense. the pyro display was insane!! they tore through the setlist which flowed nicely I got DJ's Pick & Frank's drummstick whch was shredded from him pounding those drums, but i't my first time getting one & it's definitely going on a rock room wall!! Guy's if your thinking about traveling, flying, driving u must see a GnR show ASAP!! CU in London tonite   :smoking: Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: Loaded NightraiN on January 25, 2010, 11:52:22 AM Just woke up and decided to write about last night while watching the NFC championship game on DVR....
Not much going on as far as a preparty, but I did get to meet Lord Razz!! Got into the venue just before Danko came on, and in Copps row 3 means row 1 :hihi: Right behind the player benches!! DJ and Frank both walked right in front of me!! DJ waved, and Frank pumped the shit out of me!! "ARE YOU FUCKING READY??" he yelled to me!! Right off the bat you could tell security was gonna be bad... I was surfing the internet before even danko came on and i was told to turn it off... I argued with her for a minute , but figured it wasnt worth it... Then Bach tells everyone to wave their cell phones, and she stilled yelled at everyone!!! RIDICLOUS!! So GNR comes on @ 10:26 (Dont know how this is a big deal for some people?) And they rocked!I didnt read any update threads or watch any youtube clips from previous shows, and i'm so glad!!! The old songs sounded great, and what a relief to hear the new songs... Axl was on form all night and in a great mood, sneaking up on the other guys, pushing them tring to trip them, shaking DJ's guitar during a solo... He put as much effort & energy as he ever has! DJ -- Welcome to GNR!!This guy can rock it and he can play the crowd so well!! My only concern is, people are gonna think he is trying to be Slash, with the hat & cigarette, but we all know thats his style anyway.. Perfect Fit! Bubmblefoot-- This is the first time i've seen BF in GNR and he really impressed me... The guy is smooth and can play it all.. Well except the NR outro, but hey he's only human and he had a really good sense of humor about it... Richard -- What can I say?? This guy could be lead in my band any day... It seems like he's been playing more leads than 06, which I think is a good thing... Tommy -- This guy does his thing and does it better than anybody... He really holds this band together, during songs, solos, jams, everything Frank-- BEST...GNR...DRUMMER...EVER.... This fucking guy can play like crazy, but what I love about him is, he doesnt shut the hell up!! During Pretty much every break, he's whaling on the drums getting the crowd pumped!! Dizzy-- Was all snazzed up in a purple/black suit and did his thing, and played the crowd very well too The band-- WOW!! These guys sound great, and they were all having a good time... Who says these guys just rehearse and play by the book... They jammed all night in between songs with frank/tommy leading they way... Broke out into a little pink floyd's Another Brick in the Wall, before NR... Really reminds you of 91-93 GNR... All in all an amazing night!! Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: BFD on January 25, 2010, 12:16:48 PM I read the paper said there was about 5,500 there last night, I just think that was a bad guess. With the lower bowl and floor almost completely full there has to be about 8,500 in attendance. Good show, nonetheless. There Was A Time and Rocket Queen were my highlights.

Gonna write up a review of sorts of the whole concert experience. Not really just about the Hamilton show, but what it's like to be a GnR fan on the forums, right next to the stage. Should be up later on tonight, once I get my son to bed, and drink a pot of coffee after only getting a nap last night before work. Title: Re: Hamilton Concert Discussion Post by: Hatchepsut on January 25, 2010, 06:52:40 PM It seems the show was wonderful! : ok: I'll comment more in the afternoon? Congratulations Guns!! Pics! Pics! Pics! As I mention in my review, don't expect a lot of pics from fans for this show. You couldn't even be holding a cell phone in your hand without some douchebag security guard flashing a light in your face. I understand. Patience. Very good your narrative and also of all that I have read till here. Indeed, are impressive moments. Thanks for the info.
