Title: Album sales? Post by: damnthehaters on December 16, 2009, 05:14:59 PM Probably already a thread on this, but I'm not about ready to search for it on here.
I have no idea where to post this, but I have a couple questions. 1) Anyone know roughly how many copies Chinese Democracy has sold worldwide and also in US alone? 2) Does anybody know if Chinese Democracy has sold more copies than any Velvet Revolver album or not? Title: Re: Album sales? Post by: LunsJail on December 16, 2009, 05:50:38 PM 1) It has sold at least 5 million worldwide and around 600-700k in the US although over 1 million units were shipped through the Best Buy deal.
2) CD has definitely sold better than Libertad, probably not Contraband though. Title: Re: Album sales? Post by: damnthehaters on December 16, 2009, 06:04:10 PM So contraband has sold more than 5 million records?
Title: Re: Album sales? Post by: sky dog on December 16, 2009, 07:04:07 PM I imagine CD will eventually sell more than Contraband worldwide, but Contraband has sold more to date in the US.
Title: Re: Album sales? Post by: Layne Staley's Sunglasses on December 17, 2009, 12:32:46 AM So contraband has sold more than 5 million records? No. It was 2 million, 3 million tops. Post by: jacdaniel on December 17, 2009, 08:15:31 AM yeah contraband has sold way more than 2 -3 million worldwide. its easily up to 5, 6 or 7 million now.
The 5 million figure for CD seemed to come from a pretty unlegit website if i remember correctly but its probably about right. Quote I imagine CD will eventually sell more than Contraband worldwide, but Contraband has sold more to date in the US. probably so, a high number of customers look at the "GNR" section everyday in music stores and VR disbanded almost 2 years ago so interest in them isn't at an all time high :) Title: Re: Album sales? Title: Re: Album sales? Post by: Smoking Guns on December 17, 2009, 12:53:53 PM Fuck the world, it's all about the US of A. Garry, they are American Bands, so doing good in America is still important. Contraband has sold more than CD, but CD with time should pass CB. Title: Re: Album sales? Post by: damnthehaters on December 17, 2009, 03:48:34 PM It seems like all the numbers are just hear say...So I take it there isn't a site that tells you how many albums have been sold by bands?
By the way, the reason I ask is because I've got this idiot spouting out shit about GNR and how they suck and will never outdo anything Slash is doing. ..lol I'm so tired of hearing about Slash and about how the new GNR isn't really GNR without Slash!...The way I feel is get the fuck over it. And if these people would open up their narrow little minds, they would probably come to appreciate this new band very much. Post by: LunsJail on December 17, 2009, 04:15:22 PM Also, I wouldn't use album sales to prove your point. Look at Nickelback

Look at Nickelback Well yes I know...but the guy mentioned that Velvet Revolver will sell more than any new GNR album. Title: Re: Album sales? Look at Nickelback Well yes I know...but the guy mentioned that Velvet Revolver will sell more than any new GNR album. They're probably both quite equal. Velvet Revolver actually sold really well and were more successful than they get credit for. But i think eventually CD will sell more because people are always buying CD's in the "GNR!" section of music stores. Having a huge name like GNR will always help album sales. but as pointed out above - album sales are not too important. Title: Re: Album sales? Or the fact that GNR will keep touring and promoting this album whereas VR is done! Title: Re: Album sales? Post by: rabia on December 20, 2009, 01:00:18 PM yeah contraband has sold way more than 2 -3 million worldwide. its easily up to 5, 6 or 7 million now. easily upto 6 or 7 million?! you're pulling random outrageous numbers out of the air. where's the proof that Contraband has sold this much? Title: Re: Album sales? I didnt start the thread and im not that into album sales anyways. but a few years back Contraband had sold 4 million copies worldwide. If i get time ill search around the net for figures. :) Just search for contraband on wikipedia and the info is in there. a few years back it had sold 2.9 in the US and 4 million worldwide. Not sure what the figures are now though. i know wiki is not too official but thats were people seem to take the 5 million for CD from. Title: Re: Album sales? Title: Re: Album sales? Post by: jacdaniel on December 21, 2009, 06:25:15 AM it was also reported to be more than 4 million in a thread on this forum.
But as i say, im not interested in comparing the albums. Of course an album under the GNR name would sell better. GNR are one of the biggest bands in the world and people checking the GNR section each day while shopping will see CD. maybe not in the states though cos of that whole best buy thing. Title: Re: Album sales? Post by: jacdaniel on December 21, 2009, 07:16:19 AM maybe you should mention that to the people that quoted the CD figures. CD certainly doesnt show as 5 million on worldwidealbums.net
As i said, Contraband definitly sold 4 million in its first year. i think i remember a thread were it sold even more but cant find it now. And i assume some people have bought it since 04 : ok: Title: Re: Album sales? Post by: rabia on December 21, 2009, 11:35:03 AM maybe you should mention that to the people that quoted the CD figures. And i assume some people have bought it since 04 : ok: hehe! the people who mentioned sales figures are obviously interested in them. you on the other hand claim not to care but present completely unsupported figures for Contraband anyway. the contradiction is quite obvious. CD might not show with 5 million sales on worldwidewalbums.net but like i said, its not just Wiki but also news sorces which have quoted 5 mil as the figure for CD. you can assume that "more people" than the original 4 million have bought Contraband but this assumption is most definitely not enough to pass off as a declaration. you claimed that Contraband has sold "way more" than 3 mil and then proceeded to claim that its "easily" 6 or 7 mil now! on being asked for proof of these declarations, you could furnish none. in the future, i hope you'll be able to refrain from making wild irresponsible claims with zero evidence to back them up. Title: Re: Album sales? Post by: jacdaniel on December 21, 2009, 11:43:10 AM point taken my friend. I wont continue the debate until i have further evidence.
I have seen the figures before myself but im currently in work and don't have much time to dig deep for them. i will try to find a site that accomdates these sales. Don't believe everyting you read in the news either. You see how much they trash Axl as it is. Title: Re: Album sales?
