Title: The FRANK FERRER appreciation thread (holy shit, what a drummer!)
Post by: estebanf on December 13, 2009, 05:41:29 PM
OH MY GOD!! Frank is absolutely on fire on all the songs!! Have you seen him in ''Sorry'' at the Seoul concert? He plays tight and with a massive ammount of power! I was doubtful about him playing songs like TWAT, Sorry or Shackler's, but damn it he was THE MAN of the band in all these three tracks!!

I must admit I was hoping Brain to be in this tour, and I also must admit i was actually not happy at all with Frank replacing Brain, but now I must say I am not missing Brain at all and that Frank was for me the biggest of the surprises! I'm actually very happy of how he's playing, with such intensity and power!

Sorry Frank, I was a bit unfair with you in the past, but I change my mind 100%. I needed 2 concerts to do it. YOU FUCKING ROCK

The band is THE BAND rite now, not a bunch of hired guns, all of them are awesome. They will play better and better each gig and surely will destroy South America. Then kick our sorry asses here in Europe.

I think Frank is better than Brain. And I'm only talking about who's the right guy to be in this band, not about talent or technique (not saying that Frank isn't as good as Brain). I think Brain was better fit when Bucket and Finck were in, but Frank did awesome job in 06-07.. And now with Ashba, Ron and Richard being the guitarists Frank is just perfect. Their styles just kinda click with each other..

For me this is THE lineup after the UYI-lineup. Just great, brilliant.

Frank is a force to be reckoned with.  :)   I was a huge fan of Brain and Bucket, but I think Frank has much more of a presence behind the drums.   Reminds me of a badass rock band.  He pounds those drums hard too.

Love Frank's drumming

he is the perfect GNR drummer.he has the swing of Adler, the power of Sorum and the technicality of Brain

This entire tour is going to be something special, folks!

I'm one who Loves Brain Work @ ChiDem

But Frank is proving that he is a GREAT DRUMMER! The weakest song of his drumming (in 2006/7) was November Rain (IMO) and it's okay again.

"Sorry" I couldn't listen to the drums clearly - the video doesn't helps too much, but it APPEARS that he made a good job there.

I'm still waiting for Prostitute, so i can judge properly! But, listening to the last 2 shows videos, i'm more confident that he'll do a great job in that song than i was before the tour starts.

I've always said it. While a lot of people intended to put Brain in an altar, nobody seems to care about Ferrer.

It is cool to see how many people think about Ferrer what I thought in 2007..

he just played differently... the funny part is that they way he played sounding wrong is harder to play than the real one
lol

Frank is excellent and IMO, a good fit for the band.  However, I am not sure why people seem to think Brain can't play YCBM properly.  He just did it his own way, Brain can play any song imaginable properly.  He is one of the best drummers in the industry.

I agree Brain is probably my favourite drummer to watch on youtube hes awesome but i think he found the old songs a bit to easy to play because he is more than just a hard rock drummer. For example if you listen to him play Rocket Queen he adds a lot of flash hi hat work similar to Dave Abbrussese style when he was in Pearl Jam. Im starting to think Frank might be a more GnR style, hard hitter and effective

It helps that Fortus and Ferrer have a history together (Love Spit Love, Furs) and Stinson knows how to hold it down.  Everyone loves those mind blowing solos, but give me a band that can hold a groove 1st any day of the week.

Rhythm sections make or brake bands.

Franks a great, powerful drummer and his enthusiasm is infectious (to be honest I found Brain a little distant from the material). I hope he's with this band for a long, long time.

I've been watching the DVD from the Osaka '09 gig during this weekend and I must say I absolutely LOVE Frank's drumming! Seems like a perfect fit for GNR and the guy has an awesome groove. Brain was a great drummer technically, but Frank seems to fit GNR better, since he comes from more of a hard rock backround (his first inspiration was KISS)...

I think Frank has come a long way since his first GN'R show, which I believe was the one after Paris in 06, which was Graspop.

Frank adds new drum fills here and there, that really compliment any song he is playing. Most recently I have noticed that the You Could Be Mine chorus, sounds alot more heavier, much like the CD version. And that's all down to Frank.

Thank You Ghetto Metal, for being an excellent drummer for GN'R over the last 4 years. And here's to many more years to come.

Agreed. Frank continues to excel with each and every gig played. He's definitely got his own style which makes his playing all the more enjoyable. I'm really hoping to see alot of his work on the next album.

When I saw GN'R in Toronto, I instantly noticed a change in the drums from previous shows. Frank has improved alot and has improved alot of his fills and patterns.

People must have noticed how heavy the You Could Be Mine, choruses have become. I also like when he goes into Rocket Queen, from a slightly different drum pattern. Then he goes into the intro when the guitars come in, like Rons sliding and Richards chords.

I think his boots, help him to play alot better.  ;D

I must admit that I'm first and formost a Brain fan, and I'll always consider him to be my favourite drummer. But in saying that, Frank has come into his own within the last few years. And now he has become much more adapt and an all round better drummer before he joined Guns.

I remember when Frank first started playing shows with GN'R, people commented instantly how he made IRS and YCBM heavier. He is certainly a fan favourite and has become a very valuable member of the GN'R family.  :)

Great drummer and lovely down to earth person. Got to play with him live in 2010 and having already toured with Steven Adler back in 2006 I can quite honestly say I was stunned by Frank's playing in comparison. The backbone of New GNR by far!!!  : ok:
