Title: THIS I LOVE - Dizzy Practicing it...
Post by: erguevous on December 01, 2009, 07:40:51 PM
Hi...was at a KISS concert after party here in LA the other night and Dizzy was there playing with the house band (Zeppelin covers and stuff) and in between a couple of songs Dizzy was playing an instrumental version of THIS I LOVE...which leads me to think he'll play it live - maybe both him and Axl...maybe Axl just sings...

Anyway...then Paul and Gene got on stage and played a couple of Kiss songs w/ the house band...house band didn't know the songs and messed them up big time...every one was drunk though so no worries...

I don't know if Dizzy is playing the song, but in my opinion and I think most of the board members too prefer an Axl - DJ duet playing Axl both piano and vocals

i'm torn about which guitar player i want to hear playing which solos.  would it be possible to have all three playing the solos in unison?  that would create such a truly epic sound.

Me too. If Robin isn't there to play it (and we know he wont be), I think Richard should. He certainly has the right feel to play that solo and I think he would do a great job.

I don't know what to say but I sure hope This I Love gets played a time or two live. That would be mind blowing in my book.

I think you're missing the whole concept behind "solo"

If they ever play it - and they should - Ron will play the rhythm and Ashba the solo. Remember, Ashba takes Robin's solos and Ron plays the rhythm in the studio version :)

Sorry but I don't agree with that at all. His solo is awesome on that song.

Well, I liked Richard's version of the Maddy solo... he did a pretty good job - hey, he's covering Buckethead!

I'd love to hear Ron playing This I Love solo, but if he's playing rhythm, I'd like to hear what Ashba comes up with. Looking forward to hear him playing it. :)

DJ is playing the This I Love solo.  In one of his chats he said it was the song he was most looking forward to playing live

Yeah, I bet it will be DJ playing the solo.  I'm confident he will slay it as well.

Well what they could do, what they did do on some songs back when Bucket was still onboard was, for example. On Rocket Queen Robin started the last solo and then Bucket pretty seamlessly took it over.

solo: any activity that is performed alone without assistance .

so what?  tommy, frank, dizzy and chris should all lay down their instruments when a guitar solo starts?  plenty of guitar solos involve more than one guitar... skynyrd, thin lizzy, blue oyster cult... the list is really long.  trust me, i didn't invent the idea of more than one guitar being used in a solo.  even when there's only one lead guitarist in a band, they often harmonize and double parts in recordings.  does that break your sacred law of how guitar solos should be played?

You will never comprehend solo. Who plays the solo in SCOM from AFD? Slash? Or is it Slash/Izzy/Duff? Who played the Better solo last tour? Finck? Or was it Finck/BBF/Fortus?

A GUITAR solo involves one man playing the chords by himself. There are backing rhythm guitars, drum beats, bass lines, but they make the song, NOT the solo.

so you're saying that it's simply against the rules of the universe for more than one guitar to be used in a solo?  if so, then you need to invent a time machine and go back through history to tell many great bands that they shouldn't have done what they did.  i'm sorry, but you're just making a joke of yourself here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-Ma03KY5xo - fast forward to the 1 min mark. You hear two guitars, one solo. One complementing the other. That's what he meant, I believe...

but in the TIL solo there is no other guitar that'd compliment the solo right?
so is falungong talking about is having all three playing note for note the exact same solo?

Right. I think he meant something different, not the solo note for note... because obviously Ashba can't play like Robin. Ha!

I really wish it was Richard who would play the solo.. I think he would do it very well..

But, I'm sure it will be DJ Ashba since it seems he will be obviously replacing Robin's parts. That's too bad, but oh well.
