Title: G N' R - Rehearsal Last Night...
Post by: erguevous on November 12, 2009, 05:19:38 PM
FYI, Guns is rehearsing these days in preparation for the upcoming tour.

Saw Dizzy in Burbank last night and he had just gotten back from rehearsal at a sports arena...they were testing pyrotechnics and stuff...he said they were trying to burn him LOL...

He had a REALLY cool GNR crew jacket that I had never seen anywhere... :peace:

Does anyone know if they did their past rehearsals (06-07) on a full scale stage in a sports arena?

Things seem to be a bit bigger this time around..  :)

I thought I remember hearing such things in the past.  Maybe those were just rumors though.  In fact, I'm pretty sure they were.  Back when the VH/GNR tour rumors were out I thought there was also the rumor they were rehearsing at a local sports arena.  And I think they WERE rehearsing, just not sure of the whereabouts of said rehearsals.

I remember that they rehearsed at Miami Arena for the NA tour in 2006.
Oh yeah - Del James wrote that on the offical site. 'Some time last week, GN?R flew into Florida for production rehearsals at Miami Arena. '

I didn't mean that they were rehearsing there regularly, just that they had rehearsed there a handful of times.  But again it could have been false

They're rehearsing down the street at the moment.  I wonder if they are using both facilities.

What the Spies Said

Notes from the arena dress rehearsals in LA:

Richard Fortus is playing through a 1973 Jose Marshall along with a Friedman "Marsha" amp and some modified Randall modules, all driven by a Randall RT-2 power amp. His pedals are incorporated with all of the above (pictured) and are racked and switched through a custom system built by Dave Friedman of Rack Systems Ltd. Fortus has 2 Randall isolation cabinets with Celestion Golds and Celestion G12H loudspeakers. He's playing a Chet Atkins Gretsch guitar, a Gibson ES-335 and a bunch of Fender Telecasters and Gibson Les Pauls.

DJ is also using a "Marsha," as well as a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier tube amp. The Mesa Boogie plugs into a 4x12 with Golds and the Marsha is using V30's. DJ has a ton of different Les Paul's he's playing with.

Ron is sticking with his Engl heads played through Marshall 4x12s. He's using Vigier guitars. He has a double-neck Vigier with a fretless.

... And, just in case you were wondering, the lineup is still: Axl, Dizzy, Tommy, Chris, Richard, Ron, DJ and Frank

This is the source for that post:
http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=628969

Thanks! The post has more interesting stuff:

I was at one of their rehearsal's a few weeks ago and then todays was the full production run at a arena here in LA. I have to say, these guys got it together! All three guitar players are just monsters who each stand on their own as players, and then play really well as a unit. What's also cool is the fact that they are all quite humble and good people. For any skeptics, I can assure you that they treat the early hit's with respect by keeping the parts true to the record, yet with their own vibe and flare.

On to the fun stuff....

Richard Fortus is using his Jose Marshall ('73 I think) paired with a Friedman Marsha as well as Friedman modded Randall Modules...powered with a Randall RT-2 poweramp. He has a few pedals incorporated and all of the above is racked and switched via a custom system built by Dave. He is using two iso cabs with Golds and G12H's. He has a load of cool guitars including a Chet A. Gretsch, 335, tele's, and LP's.

DJ Ashba is their newest guitarist and sounds amazing as well. He also nails the 'classic' GNR tones via another Marsha paired with a Boogie Dual Rect. The Boogie feeds a 4x12 with Golds while the Marsha is using V30's. He plays a variety of LP's. He's also quite a talented businessman as his graphics company did a lot of artwork for the Virgin Mega stores and another one of his clients is Ovation (plus many others). Not bad for a rock star!

Many here know Bumblefoot and his playing famously sick! He relies on his Engl heads through Marshall 4x12 (may be using and iso but I did not have a tour of his set up. Guitar wise he sticks with is Vigier's....both standards as well as his double neck with the fretless.

They all share lead duties and then rhythm wise, Richard covers the "Izzy" vibe with his various guitars. DJ nails the Slash vibe, and Bumblefoot sits between them.

The rest of them are very solid as well.

They are off to Asia for a few dates and then Canada. I'm not sure what the plans are for the USA but I'm something will happen. I just thought I'd share because I'm a big Guns fan and was really stoked to hear just how well they nailed the early catalog....and then of course they smoked on the stuff from Chinese D. Check'em out if you can! It's past 3am and I'm just home from my own gig, so pardon any grammer errors on my part!

concerning rehearsals, this was posted at gnrevolution, originally from link below at Metal Sludge:

Well without giving away the FULL set (I promised Del!) Ummm they did a complete run through of about 17-18 songs for about a week..Lots of visuals that complement each track..pyro, spots, etc nice lighting truss design plus a fucking bad ass Reworking of a theme song that leads into "Live & Let Die" written by Richard Fortus. Overall well done.

I loved Shacklers Revenge,Better,Prostitute & Rocket Queen live.

I would like GNR to open with Chinese Democracy > Shackler's > Better, same order of CD's tracklist. Jungle > ISE > Brownstone is another hell of a start, but some changes and unpredictability could be awesome.

And if GNR were a Burger King (  ;D ), I would love GNR to open some sporadic concerts with extremely rare and dense songs like ''Coma'' or ''Oh My God'', for example.

am I the only one who wants Guns to play ''Stuck Inside'' with Sebastiancinho?  :peace:

Well if they're opening with Chinese Democracy, that person didn't mention the song.  CD would be a major change to the show opening and no mention in that report.  I was expecting CD to open the show.  Live, I consider it a "wow" song, apparently this person doesn't.

02) SHackler's Revenge

 :smoking:

NO! They HAVE to start with Welcome To The Jungle!

Why do they have to do that?

That's easy. Because people on the Internet say so!

Imagine if they change something in the setlist. Imagine all the whining....

Oh wait...

The board would crash from all the backlash.

As far as I'm concerned, Guns could get onstage and do "Mary had a Little Lamb" 20 times in a row and I'd still be thrilled.

I like too much Live And Let Die in live shows, people jump a lot and it's very exciting, with pyro efects. In Madrid this song was amazing

I'm happy that they will play this song again.

And I hope they'll play You Could Be Mine too

Yeah... i guess some people should rather stay home watching the Tokyo videos...

Oh DAMN! They start with Nightrain at that show!!  :P

People should be excited and curious about what GnR are planing to do. Not whining about what what GnR should or should not do.

Shackler would be a great opener! Kick ass song! Much underestimated!

People would appreciate the 'new' Guns more when they make actually changes in their show. With changes meaning: playing more new stuff, have something new in the show instead of the typical, predictable, stuff 'old' guns was doing... (example WTTJ as opener and so on...) in that way some people will then hopefully stop accusing this band of naming them a 'cover band' or 'Axl solo project'.

This band needs to show their own identity...and one way to achieve this, is playing a 'restyled' show that suits these Gunners! : ok:

I like too much Live And Let Die in live shows, people jump a lot and it's very exciting, with pyro efects. In Madrid this song was amazing

And I hope they'll play You Could Be Mine too

I know, it's a very short song.  People think if they ditch LALD, they'll start playing Coma or something instead.   ::)

Or, they just don't like the cover song. I've seen them live a few times and it's the one song that doesn't do anything for me. I'd much rather hear songs that haven't been played live a lot - Civil War or Yesterdays.
I doubt this version of GnR would ever play Coma live.
Not trying to be rude here, but why the snide comment from you about this?

Agreed.  2002 and 2006 lineup nailed that fuckin song, so much energy.    A staple of the GnR show.

concerning rehearsals, this was posted at gnrevolution, originally from link below at Metal Sludge:

Well without giving away the FULL set (I promised Del!) Ummm they did a complete run through of about 17-18 songs for about a week..Lots of visuals that complement each track..pyro, spots, etc nice lighting truss design plus a fucking bad ass Reworking of a theme song that leads into "Live & Let Die" written by Richard Fortus. Overall well done.

I loved Shacklers Revenge,Better,Prostitute & Rocket Queen live.
FYI:That middle ramp/riser has AXL's grand piano under it for quick access.

Regarding this post on Metal Sludge:

Hello and FOR THE RECORD....

Feel I must clear the air a bit because of all the GNR Boards including this one discussing the rehearsals that cut & pasted my comments from Sludge on the heels of the initial one. I made the mistake of putting a positive spin replying to a post there about how great I thought the band sounded the night I saw them. I am NOT a "spy"or a reporter nor did I intend for my post(s) to provide some official "sneak peek"of whats to come..couldnt be further from the truth, but I see that it came off that way.

I was a guest who was given great hospitality by the GNR camp. Nothing more. Nothing less.

A few things I stated were inaccurate anyway so please know that my brief "review" shouldnt be taken as 100% gospel in the first place. Its rehearsal for a reason. Things change.

I look forward to seeing GNR kick ass live like the next person so please decide for yourselves especially those who'll get to see them next month and in the new year.

Thank you for reading.

Somebody who was invited to a rehearsal is suddenly labeled a "spy"....

Because it's obvious that this song will never be ditched from the setlist.  The band doesn't have to cater for the couple thousand DIEHARD FORUM GEEK fans scattered around the world who want to see a different setlist.  The band will play songs that people know, and that song is great fun to play for the band and the fans enjoy everything that goes with the song.  It's high energy, has lots of pyro which meathead rock fans enjoy, and features killer Axl screams.  And like I said, it doesn't take a lot of time to play.

I'll draw a picture for you if you still don't get it.

Only a guess on my part but he's probably a close friend of someone in the band or GNR camp.

Just like that young man (sorry I don't remember his name) who is a friend of Ron's that was invited to jam with some of the guys in the band.  If I'm not mistaken, I believe this guy is now playing in Baz's band (I think it's mentioned in the Baz's thread in Bad Obsession).

I've asked him, but I doubt he'll be able to say.

Yes that's correct, Nick Sterling is his name.

How do people get invited places?

Think about yourself. Do you get invited to go places? There's your answer.

He just got invited to see a GN'R rehearsal instead of something ordinary.

I'm not interested in the invitation but the reason behind it. I'm interested as to who this "DJ Will" is, as in is he a friend of Guns N' Roses or is he involved in the media. This doesn't facinate you much, because you're used to invitations from Guns N' Roses and it's surrounders, I'm not.

I got that and I tried to make you think about your own life and how you get invited to things.

It's probably not any weirder in this case. Except the invitation was for a GN'R rehearsal.

The reason I'm not "fascinated" by this guy getting invited to a rehearsal like you, is because I'm assuming that he's friends with somebody and that friend invited him over.

Just like you might get invited places by your friends.

That's common sense to me. Very fascinating stuff indeed....

That could well be the case, but would certain music reporters not be invited as well? I'm just interested as to what his involvement or association with Guns N' Roses is.
