Title: the chinese democracy BRING A FRIEND campaign
Post by: falungong69 on November 06, 2009, 10:44:50 AM
since geffen and best buy totally bungled the release of the greatest album of all time, i think it's time for fans to step up and help axl and the band out.  we all know how truly amazing and inspiring the new songs are, even if the mainstream media is so biased against axl that they refuse to give it a chance.

but the live experience does not lie!  and since this will be the first time axl can really play his new songs live without fear of the material being leaked and circulated before the album release, we know that this will be the tour to end all tours.  expect to hear most of the new album live.  and what better way to open people's minds to those songs?

so i think maybe as fans, we should all join in an effort to bring friends to the shows.  almost like how a runner will get pledges when he runs for a charity or something.  we could make a game out of it... see who can bring the most friends to a show.  because that's how this album is going to find it's rightful place in history... through grassroots support from true music lovers.  we all know that the second 'this i love' is played live, axl will win over a stadium full of new fans for the new music.  so let's do our part and make sure venues are packed with eager ears and open minds!

"Greatest album of all time" thats a lil bit Kanye West steep isnt it?

anyhow.

I like your idea, perhaps if Axl would bring the tour over to the UK again i could bring about 10 people. Didnt the Rolling Stones do this idea in their early days?

i think that's a stupid idea at best.

This tour began almost 10 years ago and on the last tour they already played a lot of new songs, prior to it's release.

Of course people goin to concerts sometimes bring friends. I already brought a lot of friends to Gn'r gigs, some of them liked the old gn'r, some both versions of the band , and others didn't really like any version of the band.

At the end of the day it didn't really matter, if the music spoke to them in the first place they enjoyed the gig, if not, they still hated it. and there is nothing worst than goin to your favorite band's concert with someone who would rather be anywhere else in the world than there.

So if you really wanna have a crappy time, yes, bring a friend that doesn't appreciate the band for what it is. he will ruin your opportunity to enjoy the band you love. and no, he will most likely not change his opinion.

Bring only friends that will enjoy the music and no one else.

And i only assume you're referring to friends that don't like gn'r, because if they did like the band i wouldn't have to convince them to come, we'd just meet in the concert or something.

Not really.

Not everybody is that close minded.

Have you ever been recommended a movie by a friend that you eventually loved?

Same thing.

Not everybody knows how great a proper rock show can be.

Maybe they've never been to a concert? Maybe they don't have any friends to go with?

I don't think the idea is to bring a hardcore opera fan to see GN'R....

But if you have a friend who enjoys concerts and/or rock music, why not?

I got friends who wouldn't call themselves GN'R fans that I brought along to a GN'R show and they had one hell of a time. No complaints what so ever!

It's a fantastic idea, and an easy one. Not to mention really fun! Who wouldn't want to bring friends to an awesome show?

If Guns comes over to the Seattle area, consider it done.

I'll probably be going even if they just get as close as California, Oregon or B.C, but I think it's tough to ask casually interested friends to travel so far.

Great, Great idea though.

Shut the fuck up.

I don't give a fuck if you want to marry Trent Reznor. NIN stuff have no place in the GN'R section.

It was humor, not Nin stuff. Try to loosen up a little. It makes anal sex hurt less.

For anybody who wonders, this guy thinks a Kanye West joke about NIN has a place in this thread. Then gets all upset when it's removed.

So take your TR fantasies and fuck off from the GN'R section.  : ok:

took a friend of mine to London concert and he said he had hell of a time .. had few beers to much, fell asleep during Bach, slept all the way through GN'R and woke up at Paradise City (featuring Sebastian on vocals for the known reasons). Seeing Sebastian, he gave a comment of the lifetime:

"Oh good, they (GN'R) didn't even start yet!"

.. velimir

PS. will take another friend of mine when they tour Europe again who is not GN'R fan, hope he'll have hell of the time also  :hihi:

You don't fucking remove my first ever proper Kayne West meme attempt without some serious consequences man.

Your "shut the fuck up marry trent lol" replies aren't a shiny examples  of how to steer things into a more proper direction either!!!

I've done this before, and will again.  My friends are fans of the old band so they obviously went to hear the classics.  But they did like some of the new songs.  One of my friends HATED Robin Finck's onstage persona.  Now that he's gone, I wonder how DJ will go over with him.

I think GNRs performance, even if you dont like the music so much is entertainment worth paying for.

People can argue countlessly about the line ups. All that aside. Live GNR in whatever form are always fuckin great. 2006 they rocked. Any rock fan would appreciate their high energy shows.

As for guitarists, ive not seen DJ perform live. But Finck was the only one who i did not enjoy watching or hearing. When i saw him with NIN however that was a different story.

well, there have been times i've gone to a concert alone.  does that make me a giant loser or something?  maybe i just like bands that are more intelligent and insightful than my jackass friends.  maybe i didn't want their drunk bullshit to get in the way of me enjoying an amazing musical performance.

but i'm just saying, that as a REAL FAN, i should make more of an effort to bring people this time.  maybe i'll invite some new friends, or people who aren't so biased against axl rose that they can't admit they're having a great time.  maybe, just maybe, i'll bring some hot chicks and i'll take them down to the paradise city in my pants.

In 2002 I took four friends to three shows, going to three shows on my own (not too many people from Toronto wanted to travel with me to Boston, NYC and Philadelphia) to see GNR.

In 2006, I took 21 people to five shows, 14 of which to the Toronto show.  This time around I'm going to three shows, but all of them on my own.  I sent out notice on facebook numerous times but didn't have any takers.  Not that my friends didn't enjoy the show in 2006, it's just that for many of them it was their first time seeing GNR and now are not compelled to come back because of Chinese Democracy.  They got to hear WTTJ and SCOM played live and they're content.

It's their loss 'cause I think some of the new material not yet played is going to be killer this time.  But for the casual fan, they're going to hear the classic hits and not new material.  This is the same treatment that any other band around for 15 years now face.  How many of the 100k people at the U2 concert in LA showed up because of "Get On Your Boots."  Other than the diehard fans, most in the audience will bear through the new material due to a lack of familiarity.  It's the nature of the beast.

Though I'm sure a few will walk out wanting another listen to TWAT, This I Love and Catcher and the Rye.

Cheers,

Andrew

i always take a friend.  I have yet to see a friend I take to a show with me be disappointed.   All these years later Axl still has it, and the band as it was in 2006 is the best live band I've ever seen.

i see what you're saying, and it's awesome that you brought people to see the last tours.  but maybe we need to stress the importance that this is the first tour since chinese democracy was released, and how we'll be hearing all these amazing new songs for the first time live.  that if they want to experience this once in a lifetime album, they need to experience it live.  really sell people on the complete chinese democracy experience.  i know the layperson would be satisfied hearing a few of their favorite hits from yesteryear, but this is our chance to help them understand that it's finally a new era for GNR.  it ain't their daddy's GNR anymore.

I never take friends along to GN'R shows (besides the ones i know from the forums). Usually it's just to expensive...i'm crazy enough to spend al that money but my friends aren't...good for them ;). They do come along with me on the holidays that i usually plan around a show (that in case Axl is a no-show i still get a nice holiday in a diffrent country/continent).
I do take my friends along to other shows though.

Maybe this summer it's going to change; got a new friend and she's willing to come along with the UK tour (if it's going to happen...fingers crossed).

If I went to a GNR show with Jarmo and anybody, I'd want it to be someone from the long list of "experts" and "people who know better" how GNR should do business and what Jarmo should let people post. I'd like it for 2 reasons, 1) the pre-show arguments during which both people might see a little of the others side and 2) the bubbling pile of giddy me, Jarmo and "jaded guy" would all become as soon as the lights go down.
