Guitarist wants to leave Guns N Roses days behind

Slash is set to release his debut solo record and he's signed up the vocal talents of Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, Lemmy, Fergie, and Andrew Stockdale to help out.

Called simply Slash, the album will be out next spring on Roadrunner records.

The guitarist told 6 Music he's taken his time telling people about the big names on his album: ?I've been very low key on this, because I was waiting for all the releases for all the different singers, but some of the cats are out of the bag. There's a lot of people on the record."

While he?s better known for his work with his bands Guns N? Roses and Velvet Revolver, the legendary axe-wielder said it felt great to work on his own project, telling 6 Music: "It's just nice to be in charge of my own destiny, even if it's just for one record. Just not to be in a group situation, and at the mercy of what everybody as a whole feels, but being responsible for my own decisions and having the final say.

?It's nice, ?cause I've been doing this diplomatic band stuff for so long, I needed to get it out of my system."

All that diplomacy has given Slash some skills to take to his work as a solo artist, especially when collaborating with vocalists: ?As a musician, the more experience you get from playing with a lot of different people, the more you learn how to adapt.

?The other is perseverance - keep going no matter what. To establish in your mind what you're going to do, and you just keep plodding along. The longer you do it, the more you realise that you have a purpose.

Slash has another hope for his solo effort ? that it might stop people asking him if he's going to rejoin Guns N? Roses. The guitarist told 6 Music he?s keen to put those days behind him ? ?I just feel for people that don't seem to get it. All things considered, it's been a really long time, and everybody's moved on.

?At the same time I appreciate that I was part of a band that had such a huge impact and touched so many people, and I feel bad for them that it's not around - but it is what it is..."

13 years after he left the band he's still trying to get away from GnR's Sucess? i guess that means he's only done mediocre things after he quit... and i don't really think that's the case, so i think he's still using Gn'r to promote himself like he always did.

he is? for me he is simply answering the questions journalists are always keen to ask... it gets boring but im yet to see a slash interview in which the reporter doesnt ask that same question...

Slash needs to just forget about it, He will always be associated with it like it or not.

U will see when Axl starts doing press etc, he will get the exact same questions over and over.

just the nature of the biz. they want the gossip shit.

Hmmm... he's so keen to put those days behind him that he's re-recording one of the songs from 'those days' as a b-side on one of the singles.  Double standards anyone?

BTW, there's no indication of the questions he was asked.  Did the interviewer actually ask him about G N' R or did he raise the subject himself?
