 GUNS N? ROSES will bring their Chinese Democracy World Tour to Canada in January 2010. The Winnipeg, Manitoba concert at the MTS Centre on January 13th is the first of thirteen Canadian concerts on the GN?R world tour, which begins in Asia on December 11th, with tour updates and announcements planned throughout 2010.

Guns N? Roses ? Axl Rose, Frank Ferrer, Tommy Stinson, Richard Fortus, Ron ?Bumblefoot? Thal, Dizzy Reed, and Chris Pitman ? welcomed guitarist Dj Ashba into the band earlier this year and are scheduled to begin rehearsals in Los Angeles shortly.

The upcoming worldwide tour promotes the band?s latest album, Chinese Democracy, which debuted at #1 on the charts in thirteen countries including Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Finland, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, as well as the European Top 100 Albums survey.

Chinese Democracy was released on Black Frog/Geffen Records in November 2008 and reached 3 times Platinum in Canada, Platinum in Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Romania, Switzerland, UK, Argentina, New Zealand and South Africa. The album is Gold in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Greece, Hungary, Holland, Sweden, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Brazil and Colombia. In the U.S., the album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on February 3, 2009.

They rotate the ad banners so all I've seen are ads for boots and cars..

Maybe somebody in Canada can check if they see the GN'R banner?

I knew this would happen; I'm the worst financial situation my entire adult-life and GNR is planning some dates in Canada (based on the assumption that they're advertising on a Canadian entertainment website).  Normally I try to go as many shows as I feasibly can when Guns tours (2002 - 6 shows; 2006 - 5 shows), but this time I may not be able to see any :( 

But enough of a pity party for myself, I'm super excited to hear that things are really rumbling.  This should give those worried about the Asian shows some confidence that those shows are happening.  Plus, this looks fairly official since the advertisement links to Live Nation.  Never a bad thing to hear GNR is about to hit the road again.

Perhaps I can sell some blood or semen to raise some funds, got to figure out a way to go to one...  hehehe....

Interesting development.  Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!  Hope we get some good news this weekend.  IF it's true, it could be a telling sign staying away from the US for now.  Though Canada is damn close, but their crowds seem to be more faithful than US crowds were last time around.  I think it'd be smart to drum up some interest in other countries before hitting the states, even though I'd love to see them here.  I could always make the trek to Canada though I suppose, it's been awhile.

if there are shows near you, I would borrow some ca$h and just make it happen!

Makes perfect sense. If you look at the history of GNR in Canada - they almost always play to packed or near packed houses. Aside from erm... incidents in Vancouver and Montreal ;) Rock seems to just do better here. KISS made a big splash by playing Oshawa after the city got the most votes in some online poll, Pearl Jam toured the crap out of us at one point (think they even played Kingston!), etc.

For GNR in 2002 - Toronto and London, Ontario were packed (London sold out I believe). In 2006 - Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Winnipeg, and Quebec City all sold out. Other shows - Toronto and Ottawa all sold really well, and they even did that smaller gig in Saint John, NB which I think was pretty awesome given how small that place is and the fact that they barely get any shows period.

I'm picking up Billy Talent tickets tomorrow, and I'll definitely pick up GNR tickets as well if there's something within a reasonable distance. Might even stretch it to two shows with some nose-bleed seats at the second gig if I can.

Another BC show perhaps? Victoria or Kelowna? Vancouver would be sweet though.

tix for the asian shows were rumored for over a month, tix went on sale, yet Jarmo never added that to the News Headlines. some website mentions an announcement coming, and it immediately is added by Jarmo.

so it's 7AM monday...is that central time?

assuming there is at least one show in canada, there are several possibilites, but 2 are most likely IMO:
1. 1 or more warm up shows.
OR
2. it's part of a larger tour of North America.

Those were my thoughts as well.  Although it's certainly not impossible, Canada seems like a strange place to launch some warmup shows, or simply one-offs.  It would make more sense that a North American tour is in the works.  Which, to be honest, has me floored as they've usually done Europe first, and then made plans for the North America.

Today Q104 in Halifax announced they will have a major concert announcement on Monday......??!!

Simple explanation: I have no idea how credible those sources in Asia were at the time. Compared to paid advertisement banners on multiple Canadian sites as well as the promoter posting it on their Facebook page....

With that in mind and how things have evolved since, I don't think those Asian dates are fakes. Along with this Canadian announcement, looks like exciting times are ahead!

Why is Canada strange? Guns' played like 10 shows here back in 2006. Not just Toronto either, they hit up pretty much every province.

It's clear they love Canada, and since those shows were pretty much all sold out, Canada loves Guns' too.

Just a few years ago Pearl Jam Toured Canada as a warm up tour.

so in 55 hours and 40 mins we're hearing a major concert announcement?  ;D

from the sound of it, and from the size of Asian venues, a stadium tour is likely.

I heard it's cold in Canada now. So unless they announce something taking place in the summer, that's kinda unlikely...

Absolutely.  I was just saying that it would be odd if they just toured Canada and not the rest of North America.  Either way, Montreal is a 2 hour plane ride from Chicago so I'll certainly still make the trip to see them even if that is the case, however unlikely.  :)

U2 was sold out and there was about 60,000 people @ the Rogers Centre... I don't think Guns has a hope of selling out a place that big (unless the ticket prices are very reasonable).  Air Canada Centre is still the likeliest bet, IF there is a TO date.

You might be right. Though I think they are capable of selling out stadium shows in Europe as well. There were a lot of sold-out shows here in 2006.

For me it says the amount of time that's left until 8am on Monday morning. But since that's in the middle of the night over in Canada, I doubt that's the time for the announcement.

Yahh QQ104 in Halifax has a big concert announcement monday morning,  this could be interestingg.  Anyone who went and seen them in halifax last times knows what a great show that was!!!

Question: Is there any advantage or reason for a band to let a radio station announce a tour date instead of the band doing it? Or is it because, possibly, it's in a deal the band cuts with a promoter? I guess this isn't just unique to GNR, but was wondering why it's done sometimes.

The Reading, PA STP show was announced by my local radio station (WZZO) on Tuesday, tickets on sale that Saturday. No mention of anything on the website until Thursday afternoon when they put up a presale information and stuff for Friday morning.

I think it depends on many things (i.e. promoter/band/venue).

I dont suppose anyone knows when this announcement comes out is it gonna be announced at that site its on or is it gonna be announced on radio or tv or what? Is that radio station in halifax owned by this Gillette company? Cuz if this radio station is announcing a GNR show i would think maybe they would have it put up with that countdown unless they want more mystery involved which wouldnt surprise me in the GNR world that we live in.

Halifax has some key ties to GnR thanks to Bubbles from TPB who went on tour with GnR for the Canadian leg of the tour and my understand is Axl and Bubbles are friends.  I would also love to see Helmut back on this tour.

Acording to Aluizer Malab, from Malab Produ??es, there's already negotiations with big names like Metallica, Paul Mc'Cartney, Beyonce and Guns N' Roses for 2010, all costing more than US$ 250k.

The four dates posted on the site of Ticketmaster Canada, on 12, 13, 14 and 15 January 2010, there were GUNS N 'ROSES, but the "Guns & Roses," which is a Canadian theatrical group.

The confusion was generated from the moment that some sites reported a Canadian banner with a picture of Axl Rose and a counter on it. Of course, people went to the Ticketmaster site check dates and tickets, and as yet there is nothing officially marked, the result of the search found the "Guns & Roses."

Therefore, it is possible, yes, that GUNS N 'ROSES advertise an event in Canada soon. But the four dates in January are not the band of Axl Rose & Co.

Guns 'N Roses Tour News Expected On Monday 

According to Internet rumours and several newspapers, elusive rockers Guns N' Roses and concert promoters are expected to make a tour announcement on Monday (Oct. 19) involving the long awaited Chinese Democracy tour. All rumours are pointing to a Canadian tour.

On the website for Eastern Canadian concert promoters Gillett Entertainment Group, there is a banner in their rotation with a countdown to a major concert announcement. The banner features a close-up shot of Axl Rose's mouth.

Asian concert promoters have already confirmed that Guns N' Roses will perform a mini-tour of Asia later this year. The gigs will be their first shows in support of last year's Chinese Democracy. Universal Music Japan confirmed two of the dates, while advertisements for two additional stops have reportedly appeared in the confirmed cities.

Actually the article never said "GNR maybe could replace Leppard in Calgary..."  The cancellation of Def Leppard concerts just happened and no where in any Canadian newspaper has suggested that GNR would replace any of the cancellation Leppard concerts.  If you read the article you would've noticed that they don't even know if Calgary is considered on GNR's itinerary.

Looks like GN'R are looking for places where they had a great attendance in the 2006/2007 tour. I mean, they had sold out shows at Japan and Canad? in 2007 and 2006.

And, considering that an annoucement will be made in 2 days, it's safe to think about January or February dates in Canad??? IMO, It doesn't make sense doing a big announcement to so long dates, like March or April. Then, maybe they'll go to Mexico and/or South America in March. After that, they could be doing european summer dates and leave US to the middle/end of the World Tour.

I'm thinking the dates could actually be in November, before the Asian dates, almost like a warmup.

GEG handles Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes, as well as some Northeastern US states. I'm guessing there's some other promoters if the Winnipeg/Calgary shows that are rumored happen.

Also, PEI's rock station seems to be related to the Halifax and Moncton stations that are making announcements Monday (same website design/layout) - but there's no banner on that one. PEI would be stretching things a bit though.

Anyway... I'm a lock for one or two shows depending on where they are. Copps in Hamilton or ACC or JLC in London would be awesome.

Someone claims that CHOM 97.7 in Montreal announced a show for Jan 27th at the Bell Centre.

Tickets on sale Oct 24.

Well I just looked at the Bell Centre website and the 27th is not booked, so it's possible......

Charlottetown is a fair sized city, so I wouldn't rule out PEI completely. It's also out of this world beautiful there, so I'm sure the band wouldn't object to a quick stop there ;)

I can't believe they would tour Canada and not do US tour dates at the same time.... It doesn't make sense to travel all the way across canada without stopping at US venues as well...

Pearl Jam did exactly that in 2005.  They played 16 shows from Vancouver to St. John's without hitting the US in between.  I'm not saying this is what GNR are going to do, but it is something that has been done before.

And the biggest difference between GNR and pearl jam is the size of the stage, and equipment that they bring with them.  From what I know, Pearl Jam is a fairly bare stage, so not as much equipment being trucked around.  GNR is like a KISS concert.

Reputable radio stations will reveal Canadian dates on Monday.

It is important though that the band add credence by putting these dates on their official website. An official announcement would be even better.

gnr is beginning what appears to be a world tour in support of CD. US shows are very likely at some point. MOST bands tour north america with shows in canada and the US mixed in together for obvious reasons (as gnr has done a few times in the past). so for me, it would be a little surprising if they played several canadian shows with no US dates.

possible? absolutely. the touring possibilities are endless. especially in light of the changing market for music and the current economy. you can't make the same old assumptions anymore. maybe there will be a seperate U.S. leg a couple (or several) months later. we shall see.

Why is it "important"?  It didn't seem to make any difference for the last tour.  A lot of the North American shows were first announced elsewhere and then appeared on gnr.com.

Maybe this is a way to give those radio stations a chance to create some hype for the shows.

That's awesome, makes you think this is definitely a cross-Canada tour.  I just remembered that here in Canada the album was #1 its first week, which beat how it performed in the US, so perhaps GNR is just paying us some love for our appreciation of a fine record.  I think it sold somewhere in the neighbourhood of 50-60k copies the first week, keep in mind we're 1/10th the population of the US.  Had it sold at the same ratio in the US it would have been #1.

Anyway, a few more hours to go and we should know the whole pictures.

I have to say, I give 'em credit for keeping ticket prices in line with what they were in 2006. $49.50 - $89.50 ain't bad in this day in age. Mind you, after taxes and bullshit service charges it will likely be $65-$110, but that isn't GNR's fault.

I often find the general sale gets better seats... It's sad that those who get pre-sale tickets usually get poor seat availability.

an enhanced license could also getcha into Canada & it doesn't take that long to make & distribute, plus its much cheaper than shelling out the cash for a passport :peace:

Yeah, if this was 2006 I'd be going to at least four, if not five like I did three years ago (New York, Paris, Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec City).

This time I'll be lucky to go to one.  Been out of work since December of last year and things are pretty lean.  I'll definitely figure out a way to get money for the Toronto show, even if it means whoring myself out somehow, but I'd kill to go to the Hamilton and London shows.  I remember being front row centre at the Labatt Centre in London and it was probably the greatest concert experience of my life.  

Oh to be young and with money :(

Anyway, this is a great day and I'm hoping this will give me that extra bit of energy needed to finally get a job!

I know it's around $1500 for return airfare from Toronto to Sydney, at that's at a bargain basement price.  Winnipeg might be more since it's not a major route.  It may be cheaper to catch one of the shows in Asia.  And from the sound of things, you might get a chance to see 'em in LA or your native Brazil sometime in 2010.  

But I applaud your GNR passion.

Expedia can be expensive some times; I'd check out discount carriers directly as they won't charge booking fees.  A good one would be Flight Centre (http://www.flightcentre.com.au/)...

Thanks, man. Actually, it is more than just passion. I lived in Montreal in 2003-2004 and I love Canada. Also, I'll turn 30 on the date of the first concert, in Winniepeg. That's why I'd love to be there. How could I ever have a better birthday?

Further, I expect them to announce some Aussie dates as well. And if they go to Brazil near the end of 2010, I'll be there either...

Couldn't it also have to do with the Olympics taking place in February?  Perhaps venues aren't renting (especially to a band with a history of mayhem) to music acts as they prepare for Olympics.

OK, I have a dilemma...with cash being an issue and everything. I would be surprised (not shocked, but surprised) if there were no US dates to follow, at some point after the Canadian leg of the tour (and possibly a South American leg, after that).  It would just make too much sense.

But we'll see, I guess.  I'm waiting on US shows.  I contemplated making a road trip (I have a passport) up to Canada to catch a show, but.....I'm willing to take the risk they end up in the states, eventually.

But seriously, and this goes to any American thinking of driving up to a show in Ontario, give preference to either the Hamilton or London shows over Toronto.  I'm from Toronto, so this isn't a hater thing, it's just that Toronto crowds generally are fairly lame.  It'll be mostly preppy kids and business suits showing up at this show.  London and Hamilton have a more edgy fan base, the '02 concert in London was amazing, blowing away both '02 and '06 shows at the ACC.  Also, the acoustics at the ACC are awful. 

Now Toronto is a nicer city (no offense Hamilton, but come on) so if you're looking to make it up as a bit of vacation then by all means.  But if you're coming strictly for GNR (which I'm guessing, since who comes to Canada in the dead of winter for sightseeing), I'd try for Hamilton or London since I'd put money down you'll get a better show.  London would probably be my top pick if I had to choose one.

Andrew, the Ottawa show last time was way better than the Toronto one too in terms of band and crowd energy.

I remember Axl being sick during this time so that may have had hand in it.  Though to be honest, Toronto and Ottawa were probably the least "exciting" of the five shows I saw that year.  I don't know what it is about the French, whether in Paris or Quebec City, but those motherfuckers know how to rock out.  Top prize went to the Hammerstein show 'cause it was a small venue, the Izzy Stradlin cameo, the crowd was electric and I got laid that night :)

But yeah, Ottawa was much better than Toronto.  Both were amazing shows and I had a great time (Toronto was fun 'cause I brought 14 people with me) and met up with some forum members at the bar beforehand (though I missed Jarmo who I was looking forward to meeting).  Hey, if GNR is playing, it's always a good night :)

Guys seriously Toronto crowds are lame. Ottawa and London kicked the crap outta them when I saw gigs in those towns. If you're coming up and staying a while - try Ottawa. If you're just driving up for the show - Hamilton is closer than Toronto anyway so you might as well go there. Saves you 45 mins on the highway (twice that if traffic sucks/weather blows, and in winter, it will). Or, London, which kicked ass in 02.

With the Halifax show being a couple of days before Axl's birthday we should all whip into a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday!!!!  : ok:

Guns N' Roses tour to take on Canada in early 2010

After years of tour speculation and the long-awaited release of "Chinese Democracy," an album 10 years in the making, Guns N' Roses has outlined plans for a North American tour.

For now, the routing will just take Axl Rose and his compatriots across the Canadian provinces. Thirteen dates are on the books from a January 13 opening show at MTS Centre in Winnipeg, MB, through a final February 4 gig at Metro Centre in Halifax, NS.

Among the other stops scheduled on the three-week trek are gigs on January 17 at Rexall Place in Edmonton, AB; January 24 at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, ON; and February 1 at Colisee Pepsi in Quebec, QC.

The first presales for the tour begin October 22, and public onsales will follow on October 23. Rehearsals for the tour will begin soon in Los Angeles, according to a statement from Live Nation.

This touring schedule is certainly interesting in that it starts in the far east then comes across the world to canada. My guess is that a U.S. tour probably would be spring time or summer as the canadian leg goes into feb. Yeah, I think it depends on how tight their schedule are gonna be. If they'll continue on the road immediately after Canada, I would say the US (or Mexico and South America) is the best bet within the feb/mar/apr period.

Europe would be a good bet for the summer, festival-wise.

Then either the US or SA in the fall. I guess Australia/New Zealand fits in somewhere too.

I read at Billboard that U2 were teaming up with YouTube for a live streaming of one of their concerts.

Tickets cost $49.50, $69.50 and $89.50 plus service charges, and are available at Ticketmaster locations, Ticketmaster.ca or by calling 938-7800.

The Saskatoon show is part of a 13-date Canadian tour for the band. Guns N? Roses will start the Canadian leg on Jan. 13 in Winnipeg, followed by dates in Calgary (January 16), Edmonton (January 17), Regina (January 20), Hamilton (January 24), London (January 25), Montreal (January 27), Toronto (January 28), Ottawa (January 31), Quebec City (February 1), Moncton (February 3) and Halifax (February 4).

Impressed by the press coverage in Canada.  Main story on CTV.ca entertainment section (CTV is the largest private tv company in Canada).  All the newspapers are prompting the show for the cities that have shows.

me too!  it made the front page of the CBC here in Calgary, and I also heard it on the news talk radio on the drive home today!  the awesome thing is the media here seems supportive, and doesn't make the whole thing into a joke like a lot of other media outlets do.

I have spent 5 years of my life trying to moderate HBK. I tried it all. Reverse psychology, threatening him, banning him, telling him ''do whatever you want, i dont give a fuck'', etc.

Give up dude. It's impossible. Assume he will do whatever he wants until the admin ban him. After the ban expires, he will keep doing what he wants.

I don't think the tickets cost $49.50, $69.50 and $89.50 are bad at all. If you look at other groups for what they are selling tickects for.

they made it obligatory for Mexicans also some 4 months ago, and i think its pretty expensive, so i will have to wait for a mexican concert.

Dude, you just need a regular passport to come to Canada.  Furthermore, it was imposed by the US government, not Canada.  I think there was mention of an enhanced drivers license that will work, but as a Canadian, I don't know much about that.

But yeah, any old valid US passport will get you back into the US (we'll let you in without one, it's getting back that will be the problem).

Do you guys think there's still a possibility to have some warm up gigs in US before the Taipei show? They did that in 2001 and 2006, but not in the last tour...

The new band already did that in 2006 for the Inland Invasion and RIR Lisboa gig. Although those were from festivals broadcast, not only GNR.

Yes, I enjoyed watching those. Would be cool if they did it again.

I think that's because they toured till late December in 2006 before the last tour.

Alternatively they can warm up here in Tokyo before the Taipei show. :P

The whole idea of warm up shows. Looking back. In 2006 they did shows in New York, which is on the way to Europe from California. Makes sense.

The Las Vegas and San Francisco shows were also in the US a while before the North American tour started.



I don't think I'm out of line when I assume GN'R has a bunch of equipment etc. that needs to be shipped to Asia in time for the tour there. I have no idea how the logistics are handled, but depending on the mode of transport used, that could possibly be weeks in advance. Actually, it probably is.

I mean, you know how you wait for a package to arrive from abroad? Imagine a whole lot of packages!


What does this mean? Well, maybe that there's not enough time for the band to rehearse, send equipment to wherever people wish they'd play warm up shows (for example the East Coast etc.) and then ship everything to Asia in time for the first show.

I don't think they need all that time to ship equipament. I mean, if that was the case, they couldn't get from Tokyo to Europe so quickly in 2002. Or maybe they have two or more full gear sets to make it easier to travel around the globe.

You're closer to right. Not only can you use a regular passport but most states will allow you to get an "Enhanced Driver's License" that will allow you to go between US & Canada. I'll be needing to get around to getting one if there's no US dates announced by the time they hit London, ON

Keep in mind that a lot of the info is for hockey games, not end stage concerts. You're losing the side-stage and behind stage sections on both levels; the floor doesn't entirely make up for this usually. Centre stage at MTS in Winnipeg would be 17,000, hockey is about 15,000 (from the MTS website). I wonder if the stage set up will be the same in the Asian shows as in Canada? These are very different size venues right?

the Seoul show seems to be about the same size to many of Canada ones.

I was not aware about this..Quebec, Damned Quebec, I had the oportunity to go to Quebec this year but I didn't took it, well, I couldn't anyway.

Most of them are comparable as far as stage size. The bigger the venue, the bigger the stage you could have - but I'm assuming GNR is using the same/similar stage setup as 06.

That's most likely why they aren't changing to centre stage etc. Also, I'm not huge on centre stage as then for half the show, half the band is facing away from you/out of sight. End stage, you see everything, all the time. The video screens are an issue as well (you'd need an extra set at least for a 360 stage set up).

All in all - they've played most of these venues before so it's not really an issue. Smaller the market, smaller the venue, smaller the size. Other than that things are pretty similar. Smaller shows sometimes have better energy though.

I did not mean what I said in a negative way. It's a hearts and minds exercise; if you get an announcement out there, then a wider audience gets to read about what is happening and it gets them interested in GN'R again.

All kidding aside, you can still stay within the code, and almost always, the floor makes up for what is lost behind the stage.

I was thinking about this more and you know what I think would help? If they attached one of the forums to the official GNR website.

The fan forums tend to be upkept better and more often then GNR's official set has ever been. Plus if the average person just checks out gunsnroses.com they'll see that there's a thriving fan base out there.

Apparently there is an official press release being sent, so I'm a little surprised it hasn't been posted on the website.  Maybe for some reason they just haven't done it yet.

Rolling Stone has received an official press release that proclaims the dates are part of ?Guns n? Roses Chinese Democracy World Tour? and can now confirm the dates are official.

It depends on who you refer to as "official".

There's the band, management, promoters etc.

All of the above could put out a press release.

The "official" came from Rolling Stone and I think it is from the promoter.

If I had to guess, and it looks like I do, there will be an announcement when all the dates are set...and it appears that there are more coming.

I'm under the impression that bands prefer to use their own equipment....

I think I read somewhere, that back when they did the UYI-tour, they had to stage-setups on the road. I.E: when one was being used on Stockholm, Sweden, the other one was on its way to Oslo, Norway... And so on. To save time and money!   :) Logistics is a bitch!!

ohh i got confused by some post that said that Canada was asking for a visa-passport for the Americans also.  the fact is that am from Mexico, and some months ago the goverment informed that Canada is now asking for a visa to enter the country, i was checking and the tramit to solicitate it its about 75dll, so its not as expensive as i thought.

I have to get either a passport or the Enhanced Driver's License soon. But I'm pretty sure that I'll be attending the London show. It's only 2 hours from Detroit from what I understand.

Yeah the London show is about 2 hours from there, but in winter maybe a bit longer, London falls in the snowbelt region so it has a much higher snowfall then most areas around here

Oh ok, thank you for that heads up. I believe it's gonna be a small vacation type trip as it's shaping up. I believe we'll actually head that way on Sunday, see the show Monday and head home Tuesday.

I didn't realize that any of the shows were going to be so close to me. I beside myself excited!

oh and Hamilton is another hour or hour and a half away :)

Anyone know where one can buy tickets for the London, Ontario show?  I've checked ticketmaster and the John Labatt Centre website but nothing posted.

Perhaps they won't put it up at the venue's website ticket site until they're ready to go on sale.
