Post by: suicide on September 25, 2009, 10:29:52 AM
Don't know if this is good news or not but for those of you who still haven't bought CD or want a second / third / ... album this is a very good deal at Play.com:
http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/1125209/ChineseDemocracy/Product.html?cm_mmc=&utm_source=&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=&utm_content=&cur=258 (http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/1125209/ChineseDemocracy/Product.html?cm_mmc=&utm_source=&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=&utm_content=&cur=258)

Does anyone know why the price dropped again?

Because it's not a new release?

Just for comparison, The Killers' "Day & Age" is sold at the same price. Both were released the same week....

A LOT of albums sold less than Appetite

Yes, and if you hold that level of commercial success, or even the level of the UYI records, then virtually any album released in this era of downloading (both legally and illegally) can be deemed a failure.

5 million copies in 2008-2009 is not a modest number.   All things considered, I think its sold pretty well.. but we can all do things like VoodooChild so when you see it being sold somewhere, move it to the front  :)   or at that price, why not buy one for a friend?

After fifteen long years of speculation, rumours, and disappointment, the one-time "most dangerous band in the world" finally reward their fans' patience with the release of Chinese Democracy. Guns N' Roses' fifth full-length studio album of original material is an uncompromising, fully-focused, hard rock monster that brings the rockers' early sound alive with modern day stylistics.

  :hihi:

... Chinese Democracy has become an audacious, unhinged, and uncompromising hard rock record that marks a triumphant return to form for one of history's greatest rock bands.

 : ok:

The funny part (or sad) depending on your perspective in 20-30 years from now CD may be considered a massive album everyone missed out on because of crap that does not concern them.  If you take away all of the bullshit around the album what you end up with is an album that no other hard rock/metal bands have the balls to put out or even try.  (I an only referring to NA bands on major labels as I am well aware of many amazing bands from around the world that just do their own thing and are amazing)  On top of that very few albums if any sell in the numbers that AFD sold in.  In the end though most bands are making more money from touring then they ever have before.  Bands are now not only allowed to sell their music to tv shows and movies but to video games, commercials etc.

doubt its anywhere near 5 million!  it was 3 million a month or 2 back.
Is there some kind of official link?
Not even Death Magnetic has sold that many.
Maybe it means shipped??

I must of missed something - I always thought 5.4 million copies sold was pretty good/positive considering there was no real promotion and little advertising.

Does anyone know how much albums they have actually sold ???

I don't believe it is anywhere near 5.3 million.   Back in April it was around the 3 million mark.

The album is not in the billboard 200, so i doubt it is selling that much each week.

because a month or two back it had only sold 3 million.
And it wasn't really promoted.

i just dont believe that its outselling black ice etc.

i wonder if there is an official page that confirms this.

It is climbing the "Top Selling" list at play now...

Yesterday it was at 80, today it's number 56.  :peace:

??? Why that? Because you prefer other albums?

Judging from the net. of when each album was last seen in the top 100 of Oricon chart, Chinese Democracy clearly oversold Black Ice or Death Macgetic in Japan. I think the ratio was like cd 150:  DM 83:  BI: 46

No because that album was generally more popular and promoted.
This 5.3 number has came from a VERY unofficial source.
it had sold  2.6 million in febuary so... without promotion i cant see how it wouldve doubled.
This 5.3 million most likely includes all the albums that were shipped and are currently on the Best Buy shelves etc.

A lot of people get very sensitive round here when one questions how valid a source is.

Generally in your neighbourhood? And I'm not talking about the 5.3 number.

In Japan they all got similar promotions, which amount to nothing for the general public compared to that for domestic albums, save that some metal writer seemed to prefer DM to CD but GNR isn't really heavy metal so who gives a fuck. Actually not so many Japanese listen to critics. Not always a good thing tho.

Example:

CHILE... GNR, but... Universal & Massive Store Of Disc: FERIA DEL DISCO had problems to promote ChinDem. then HERE In Chile:

CERO Promotion, NO DISC In Store... NO Poster, Not Sales, I only had to order the CD

Today: recently sold the disk CHILE and sales are relatively good

 : ok:

Why is that hard to believe?

Because since there was no sustained promotion, most of the sales would have been in the first 3 months or so, and they didn't total that. Pretty much the only way for people to discover the album at the moment is browsing through the store.
