Here Today... Gone To Hell!

They just released their tenth studio album, "The Incident". It's a double CD containing 5 tracks with the title tracking clocking in at 55 minutes (beating their previous record of 35  ;D). And as usual it's fantastic. Great music that becomes even better the more you listen to it.

Often categorized as progressive rock, but I don't feel their music really fits into any single genre. They make music with elements from lots of different genres, but always very melodic.

Anyway, thought this band deserved their own thread.

On of my all time favorite bands- people should deffinatly check them out. Everything they've done is awesome, wouldn't be able to name a favorite album.
The Incident is incredible. An amazing acheivement for the band. Grows better with each listen, and it was pretty awesome on the first listen!

Isn't the drummer from Porcupine Tree going to be the 2nd drummer on the new King Crimson album?

i just saw them with a friend, just decided to check it out since i heard them a long time ago.
they are talented and i liked some of it but i have to say that i'm not really that into the band. maybe it's their new album i dunno?
they had a lot of tool influence though which was cool.

Yeah, Gavin Harrison plays with them. Fantastic drummer. Steven Wilson (singer/guitarist) is remixing King Crimson's back catalogue. Can't wiat to hear them, he's one of the best producers around.



I think they are playing the whole of The Incident on this tour. It isn't really the most 'casual listener' friendly set I don't think, so I can appreciate that.
I'm desperate for them to come to Aus on this tour though, would love to see The Incident live.

I've got The Incident and I'm quite impressed by it, although mostly by the second disc strangely enough.  Steve Wilson's certainly a talented man.  The first time I really heard of him/them was when I watched the Opeth documentary covering the making of Deliverance/Damnation.

It's broken down into 14 parts- each an individual track, probably more for conveniance than for anything else. But it makes up a whole piece and is intended to be listened to as a whole.

I absolutely love porcupine tree. I have every album and have seen them live multiple times. Their new album is an absolute masterpiece.
Their 7th album, 'Deadwing', belongs to my top 5 favorite albums :)

Me too, great band, hoping to see them in the Albert Hall later in the year. Very 'trippy' concert, they have very heavy parts in their music but also very spaced out parts...so the minute you start jumping up and down to a heavy bit the next thing your stood still again, makes for an interesting night!  :hihi:

I love the band too and I have every albums and i have seen them live three times.  Each album is a masterpiece so it's hard for me to say which album is better, maybe "in absentia" or "fear of the blank planet". These guys are brilliants musicians, Steven Wilson is an amazing songwriter/producer. Definitly one of my favourites bands after GN'R (there's nothing in common).

I agree but deadwing has something special.. start of something beautiful, mellotron scratch, arriving somewhere, etc.. I love those songs. Even though every album is really good, like you said..

Kinda like every queen album kicks ass but nothing beats Queen II or Night at the opera.. some albums just have 'it', whatever that is ;)

I'm not really into Opeth, I tried their damnation a couple of times but it's just not my thing. I do like Blackfield. Apparently other side projects of him such as No Man and Bass communion or supposed to be good too :)

yeah No Man is a good project too, I don't really like Blackfield, it's too pop music too me. I loved Opeth mainly acoustic songs... Steven Wilson is a very prolific artist : I heard what he've done for King Krimson, pretty good.

I must say blackfield is the 'easiest going' music of everything he does, I still like it though :)
I heard there are plans for a Blackfield III, wonder when he's going to do that..

BTW Porcupine tree is playing both Hurricane and Southside festival. Now I think guns are a bit too expensive for those festivals but it would be great if they played the same festival. On the same day ;) I'd definitely go to that!

PT Live in Tilburg Blu-Ray/DVD

Porcupine Tree's new live film is approaching completion and a special edition will be available in April, with a regular version to follow in May. Anesthetize was filmed live over 2 nights in Tilburg, The Netherlands in October 2008, at the end of the Fear of a Blank Planet tour. The 130 minute live film includes a complete performance of the Blank Planet album and 11 other tracks, and was directed and edited by Lasse Hoile on high definition cameras, with the soundtrack mixed into stereo and 5.1 sound.

The special edition will take the form of a cloth bound hard back 120 page book (as per The Incident and Insurgentes deluxe versions) featuring live photography of the band taken over the last 5 years. The book will house both a DVD and a much higher quality Blu-Ray disc version of the film, as well as 2 audio CDs of the soundtrack including one bonus track not featured in the film. The book and audio CDs will not be included with the standard retail versions of the Blu-Ray/DVD.
