Title: Verizon Fios
Post by: tim_m on September 18, 2009, 02:24:56 PM
Does anybody here have this service? We're moving in a few weeks and its available at the apartment complex we're moving too. We ordered it last night. We're getting their best triple play. It includes all their HD channels 117 of them and the home media dvr, so we can watch recordings from any tv. Unlimited calling in the us, canada and puerto rico, a totally unlisted number and 25/15 internet.  We're getting a great deal 3 for 2 for 6 months. In the first 6 months of the deal we will save $70 over time warner and $40 beyond that. Anyway i'm just wondering what anyone else here that has its thoughts on the service.

Personally no, but from what I hear its a great service... It really is way ahead of cable just the fact its 100% fiber... It may lack in a few small things, but those wont last long!

I don't know about other areas but in my area it blows Time Warner away. With TW i have 51 HD channels. With fios i'll have 117 and getting 5 more in October including a new movie channel called epix. TW doesn't have a home media dvr. Fios has the ability to stream pictures music and videos from a pc to any tv in the house. The ability to control the dvr from the web and a cellphone. TW just can't match that at least not in the Dallas area where i am.

I don't have it but would get it in a second if it were available in my area.  Internet is way faster, fastest i've seen available for the home.  very awesome!  I've worked for some people who have it and tested it out myself.. you'll love it.

Yeah, i've actually had the internet fios back when speeds were only 15/2. We had to move unfortunately and it wasn't available where we moved. This will be the first time i've had their tv though. I'm excited for all the HD's they offer. Time warner in my area has crap for HD. Their internet is much faster now too. I'll be getting 25/15. That should be around 3mb down 1.8 mb up. I can't wait.

You do have 1000x faster internet speeds though...so it evens out.

I still don't have HD at my house, cable costs an exorbitant amount and for DirecTV we would have to cut down a hillside of trees.

Yeah cable prices are getting ridiculous. We currently pay TW $254 a month. We're saving almost $100 by switching to the Fios.

HD is so whack though folks.

You watch stuff that's not in HD (like old shows) and you have a bunch of black flanking both sides of the picture!

I know! We have 4 tvs. So that's part of it. That's $40 plus tax stuff for that. They also have a $3.95 charge for Disney on demand and 4.95 for an HD tier. So it adds up quickly.

That's easily solved. HDTV's let you set the picture to 16:9 and that makes all non hd channels full screen.

Not with my tv. I just have to press a button once.
