joined and I will do better than I did last year. That was probably the worst I've ever done in Fantasy

Awesome!  Thanks for setting that up Faldor!
No problem.  D reminded me back in June but I wasn't quite ready then.  I figured now was a good time though.

I too hope to rebound from a lackluster season.  My overall points weren't too bad but my record was awful.

I like Carolina's Offense alot better than Oaklands, and Williams McFadden had a great rookie season.... You didnt shoot yourself in the foot thats for sure

EDIT: I meant to say Williams!!

I like the deal.  I think Williams is clearly better than McFadden, not sure the difference between the 2nd and 9th pics depending on who's available, but it shouldn't be THAT great.

I went through everything and where this is a keeper league, at pick 2 I could get Brian Westbrook, at pick 9 I am probably getting Leon Washington

I know that sounds terrible BUT

This league does KR and last year, Westbrook only outscored Washington by 20pts.

Westbrook coming off the surgery, throw in McCoy and also Washington should get a bigger role and still KR/PR

Title: Re: 2009 Fantasy Football
Post by: Axl4Prez2004 on July 30, 2009, 10:38:17 PM
^D, that's exactly why I really dislike leagues that use kr/pr nonsense.  Washington shouldn't be anywhere near Westbrook in fantasy.

btw, I think you made a good deal...just handcuff Stewart a.s.a.p.   ;)

Yeah I hate leagues like that too.  I was in a league for a few years that not only counted return yards but also had nearly an entire starting roster of defensive players.  It was insane.  I had BJ Sams a DB from the Ravens who barely played on defense but returned a few kicks for TD's.  And some return guys were better than #1 or #2 WR's points wise.  Suffice to say, I'm no longer a part of that league.  I had enough.

I'm surprised in a league like that they didn't take it to the next level and draft individual cheerleaders.  Fuckin' ridiculous I say.     You just know some fantasy asswipe will design a league that incorporates o-linemen into the scoring scheme.  ::)

Who would u take

I'd probably go with Colston just because the Saints offense is so dynamic.  However, they've got a LOT MORE weapons than the Chiefs so there's more to spread around there.  With Gonzalez no longer in KC, Bowe is the main guy on offense.  With that being said, defenses could key on him while they probably wouldn't do that with Colston.

Title: Re: 2009 Fantasy Football
Post by: gilee7 on August 03, 2009, 02:26:48 AM
I'd take Bowe. He's put up good numbers the previous two years with shit at QB. Even though I'm not a big Matt Cassel fan, he's definitely better than anything Bowe has had before. He's pretty much the Chiefs' only weapon now, so even though defenses will key on him, he'll get plenty of looks and he's talented enough to come down with most of them. Colston plays in a better offense, but he can be very hit and miss considering how Brees spreads the ball around. Plus he's more injury prone than Bowe.

Title: Re: 2009 Fantasy Football
Post by: D on August 03, 2009, 03:48:50 AM
Thanks guys

I got pick 12 coming up:

I also thought about Derrick Ward.....

I was able to land Knowshon Moreno

so my team in this keeper is:

DeAngelo Williams
Knowshon Moreno
Greg Jennings
Brandon Marshall

I am going to take Matt Ryan as my QB I think. He or Donovan

Only 2 guys need QB's and McNabb,Romo and Ryan are available, so I am going to wait.

Yeah it's pretty much a tossup.  I always downgrade Bowe because of the offense he plays in and yet he always seems to produce.  You never know how much the loss of Gonzalez will hurt Bowe though.  That will be my reason for downgrading him again this year and yet again I'll probably be wrong.  As good as Matt Cassel was last year Randy Moss's numbers were WAY down from his record setting campaign with Brady.  Welker's were about the same, as he was and always will be a safety valve.

Title: Re: 2009 Fantasy Football

Title: Re: 2009 Fantasy Football

U will never believe this

guess he fell to me?

D. Bowe

So I ended up with both Colston and Bowe!

 I love this money league!

D, who the heck is in this league?  Letting Bowe fall that far is nuts.  How did you get DeAngelo, Knowshon, Jennings, Marshall, AND Bowe and Colston???  Is it an 8-team league?

btw, you're all falling for D's plan of gaining your leanings prior to the HTGTH draft!   :hihi:

round 2 people did dumb shit

TO and Matt Schaub went before Bowe

crazy

here is the roster of the team I took over from last year:

QB:David Garrard
RB:Darren McFadden
RB Chester Taylor
WR Greg Jennings
WR Brandon Marshall
WR Anthony Gonzalez
WR Antonio Bryant
TE Owen Daniels

Ive turned that into
QB Donovan McNabb
RB Deangelo Williams
RB Knowshon Moreno
RB Leon Washington
WR Greg jennings
WR Brandon Marshall
WR Marquez Colston
WR Dwayne Bowe

Today I added Leon Washington at 39 *KR counts in this game 25 yards per point* and I added Donovan F McNabb as my QB. Hope he has another great season

D, ya done good...next step is to secure a quality backup qb.  I love McNabb's high side, but there is a history of injury there.

I got 17 picks before I go again. I am thinking of waiting and grabbing Kyle Orton late

he scored 230 with the Bears.. so with weapons, he may be a sleeper pick.

I am thinking Matt Ryan next year as my keeper.

I have a good problem now actually as I have TOO many keepers for next season.

Picking 3 out of  those will be tough. Don't want to be locked into a QB just yet.

McNabb lets me compete this season and I can work on a future Keeper QB next season.

Sorry bout that

The guy who drafted Ryan also has Aaron Rodgers. So he has to drop one of them after this season and I can then draft whichever he drops next year.

Dude picked Ryan WAY TOO SOON.

I divided the league into separate divisions today, HTGTH vs. GNRevo.  It WAS even, but now they're one up on us.  We need someone to join our side to even things out.

It's even right now. Those bastards did better than us last year. Hopefully HTGTH will kick their ass this season.

The division thing is a new feature on Yahoo, isn't it? My friends and I do a league every year on NFL.com, and we've always had divisions (12 teams, 3 divisions). The winner of each division makes the playoffs, and then the one wildcard is the team with the next highest record.

How exactly does it work on Yahoo, though? I've noticed that we don't even play those guys during the regular season. We only play against members of our own division. Is the playoffs still the six teams with the best record, or will it be like our three best teams vs. their three best teams?

Anyways, I can't wait until draft night and the regular season! I think I read that StatTracker is free this year, too, so that kicks ass.

Actually that was another GNRevo guy.  They're now up on us 7-5.  Where's the dedication from this board?  I might have to pick one guy to be in OUR division unless we get 2 more from here.  You still play teams from each division.  The winner of each division gets the top 2 seeds for the playoffs, then the next best 4 records fill out the rest of the spots.  We have 12 teams so far, everyone still good with 6 teams making the playoffs, not 8?  If we get to 14 teams, should we make it 8?

I think six is enough. I think the regular season should mean something. When you've got like 12 teams, but 8 make the playoffs, it isn't as competitive. Plus I've had too many experiences with finishing near the top of the league, then losing in the first round of the playoffs to like an 8th seed. That always frustrates the hell out of me. Then it's forever on my account that I finished seventh, when I actually won more games than everyone else.

We've got 14 teams in the league now.  But GNRevolution is outnumbering us 8-6.  We have a couple options I guess.  1) Get 2 more teams from here to even things out.  2) Grab one of the teams from the evo side and put him in OUR division to even things out 7 and 7.  3) Stick with a HTGTH division of 6 and a GNRevo division of 8 (if they even allow uneven divisions like that).

Any ideas?

I split and renamed the divisions accordingly.  The schedule is a little out of whack with the unbalanced divisions.  You play 2 games against every team in your division, then the GNRevo guys play ONE team outside the division, we play 3.  But for some reason, out of those 3 non division games they seem to match you up with ONE team outside the division twice.  I could manually adjust the schedule when it comes closer to the start of the season.  But 2 more teams from here would solve all our problems.

Further issues to attend to.  I'd like to drop at least one roster spot since we have 2 extra teams this year.  So I could drop one starting spot, the slash position.  Or I could drop one bench spot and keep the slash position.  And I could also change the slash spot to include QB's and TE's along with WR's and RB's.  So instead of it being WR/RB it'd be QB/TE/WR/RB.

Any thoughts?

Title: Re: 2009 Fantasy Football

Just drop a bench spot or something. I love having the RB/WR position. The QB/RB/WR/TE option is too weird. We don't need teams starting two QBs.

I've played in 2-QB leagues before, and it can be fun but you about to have just ten or twelve teams in the league to make it work. That way everyone can have their 2 starting QBs and then one for their bench.

There's a guy over at GNRevo, who's also a member here who said he'd join.  But we'd still need ONE more from here to even things out, then we'd have 8 teams in each division.  That'd be nice.

Who's coming with me?

Edit - I changed the waiver rules so that the every player on the FA list is put on waivers when the games start on Sunday until Tuesday morning after the games are finished for the week.  This way each team will have a fair shot at picking up a player if something drastic happens during gametime action.  Eg. Adrian Peterson goes down with an injury, the first person to notice this and go online wouldn't necessarily have first dibs on his backup.  That would go to the team with the worst record in the league on up.

This works out for me since I'll be at Gillette Stadium 8 weeks of the season not able to fully monitor the goings on.  And of course, I think it's more fair for everyone.  Just make sure you make all your moves by gametime Sunday.  You can't wait until the Monday night game to pick up a 3rd WR.

You can't wait until the Monday night game to pick up a 3rd WR.

great idea Faldor.  Thanks!  Hey, you're up on Patriots talk, how's Galloway looking?  I only saw him briefly in their first pre-season game and he didn't look great.  Whaddaya think?

I've heard good things about Galloway.  He's still got the legs.  It might take him some time to get in sync with Brady but I'm sure they'll get there soon enough.  He dropped that one ball in the game last week, but that was one of Tom's bad throws.  Can't make too much out of pre-season games anyway.  Julian Edelman looked like a Wes Welker clone in that game but I'd be willing to bet Joey will be more of a focal point on offense than him.  Heck Brady has made the likes of David Givens, Reche Caldwell, and Jabbar Gaffney look like stars.  I'm sure he'll bring the best out of Galloway when all is said and done.  Greg Lewis will get some looks too.

I got kicked out twice and had 2 guys autodrafted that I wouldn't have taken if I was IN the room.  I hate back to back picks too, especially when you have to wait 28 damn slots to make a selection.  One time guys were getting plucked off my queue one by one and only 2 were left by the time it was my turn.  One I took without hesitation, but the other one I wasn't thrilled with.  Unfortunately I couldn't find anyone else in the alotted time.

Other than those instances I'm alright with my team.  Although I definitely foresee some tweaking in the coming days/weeks/months.  Tonight was just the beginning.

Drove me nuts people went so early on backup QBs when they still had starting positions to fill.

If I could've got Cutler or Hasselback, I would feel great about my team. I got Kyle Orton and Trent Edwards........ So I no longer feel great about my team.

Orton has weapons in Denver and I think he is capable...... but we shall see.

Yeah that happened to me once, was not happy... Not sure if it picked the guy I was highlighted on or a random pick... Could have been worse..

Deal with it D... Thats what the draft is all about, you should have picked a QB sooner, you cant expect them to last....

I personally did it because I had a 2 picks in between my own.. It was Carson Palmer Vs Donald Driver... I liked Palmer better and wanted him first... it worked out fine though, because Driver landed at my feet 2 picks later...

for anyone that has time to take a look at everyone's roster, who do you think have the best teams (excluding your own, of course)?

i took a quick look and it's tough to say. there's alot of balance in the league and no team really stood out over the rest. but right now i'd have to say Pasnow's team looks the strongest. i also like Flash Flood and Estranged Eagles quite a bit too.

i like shoot dog - sandman, I really like your starting WR's (Wayne, R. Williams, Housh).  Forte is solid and Grant had a bit of a disappointing year last year but could bounce back.  You've got some decent RB options on the bench (Rice, B. Wells).  Not crazy about Cassel this year.  KC is a steep dropoff talentwise from NE and I think that'll clearly show in his play and overall numbers.  Hasselbeck could have a bounceback year though.

Neemo - good RB's (D. Williams, Barber) and QB (Rodgers).  Never been big on Coles, but he has some decent WR's on the bench waiting in the wings (N. Washington, Ginn Jr).  Very good backup QB, could be used as trade bait for someone in need.

PaSnow - Matt Ryan is solid but not spectacular, though a years experience and Tony Gonzalez could move him up the ranks.  2 very solid WR's (C. Johnson, Boldin).  Not crazy about Willis McGahee, but has Marshawn Lynch ready to fill in when he comes off suspension.

NighTraiNs - good QB, RB's (McNabb, Portis, Jacobs).  Workmanlike WR's (Ward, Moss, Driver).  Not GREAT, but consistent.

James Lofton - Not crazy about Branch as a 3rd WR.  Larry Johnson is questionable too. (team was autodrafted)

Demolition - solid QB (Rivers) and RB's (LT, P. Thomas).  No elite WR's, but there's some potential there (V Jax, L. Moore, Hixon)

CrashDiet - Lots of guys coming off injury (Brady, Parker, Bush), again solid WR's but not great (D. Jackson, Royal, Walter).

Estranged Eagles - solid RB's (S. Jax, R. Brown, D. Ward).  Derrick Mason, another WR that doesn't have huge upside, but he's consistent.

Mr. Brownstone (my team) - I think my team has some potential, though Kurt Warner isn't getting any younger and I'm not sure he can come close to last seasons output.  Joseph Addai seems to be injury prone, luckily I picked up his backup, but they may share the backfield duties which often is a fantasy nightmare.  I wanted better than Santonio Holmes as a 3rd WR, but he was the best available at the time.  I think a couple guys on my bench could see some serious playing time.  And a few won't last long, in fact they may not see opening day.

Jessica Alba - 2 very solid WR's (Fitzgerald, A. Johnson).  Young RB's with some potential although they play for horrendous teams (McFadden, K. Jones).  Antonio Gates makes up for the questionable options for 3rd WR.

Appetite for D - Very solid WR's (Ochocinco, R. White, G. Jennings).   M. Turner is a no brainer.  Can Lendale White duplicate last years success?  Felix Jones is a solid backup RB.  QB's are a pretty big ? (Orton, Edwards).  Though Orton is playing in a pass happy offense with Josh McDaniels coming from the Patriots.

Redarmy76 - Amani Toomer as a 3rd WR doesn't spell success to me, but what do I know.  Haven't been a big Jamal Lewis guy since he screwed me to a last place fantasy finish a few years back.  But Ricky Williams could emerge off the bench.

CC's Gold Medals - Pretty solid team overall (Brees, Bowe, Welker, D. Avery, Westbrook, J. Stewart).  Really no weaknesses that I can see.  A few potential injury concerns (Westbrook, D. Avery).  But if his players can stay healthy I really like that team.  This team was also autodrafted.  Maybe that's the trick, don't show up to the draft.

FlashFlood - Another autodrafted team that looks pretty solid (Romo, Slaton, Gore).  Though the WR's are a bit questionable due to holdouts, off years, etc. (B. Marshall, B. Edwards, L. Evans).  Kellen Winslow is another injury concern at TE.

I'm gonna say I like CC's team the best right now.  Of course that could all change very quickly.  As you said sandman, the teams all look pretty even.  There's not a huge disparity one way or another.  It could come down to team management, as it often does.  Gotta stay up on injuries, bye weeks, etc.  That's the true test.  You could have the best team on draft day but if you don't make the necessary moves you aren't going very far unless everything goes to plan, and that never happens in football.

Nice synopsis Faldor...but let me try and explain my team that looks pretty shitty right now!  I'm banking on Westbrook getting hurt in Philly.  I really think McCoy can put up stud numbers if BW goes down...I also expect Mendenhall to steal the goal-line carries (as well as at least 30% of all steeler carries initially, with that getting closer to 50% as the season wears on Willie P.)

Granted, my 3rd wr is risky...but who the fuck is Cutler going to throw td's to anyway?  He'll probably spread them around, and hopefully Bennett gives me 60 yards/week with an occasional touchdown catch.

I really think Favre will light it up in Minnesota...it's fun having your favorite team's quarterback on your fantasy team, ya know?

btw, did I mention drafting 11th blows???????????   :)

one more thing, Sandman, nice draft...I'm still pissed about Yahoo kicking me off last year right when I was going to pick Chris Johnson.  Good luck this season.

My season rests on Kyle Orton and that is FUCKING SCARY

I got myself finishing about 5-8.................. unless Lendale can have another HUGE season. Losing 30 pounds makes me believe he will. Besides with Kerry Collins and Nate Washington as your number 1, There should be plenty to go around for Chris and Lendale.

Lendale will get those inside the 5 carries.

Kyle was shitty his first preseason game but he looked damn good in the last one and that was without Brandon Marshall.

I've also been following Chad Johnson on Twitter and UStream, and I believe he will have a fantastic season.

http://msn.foxsports.com/fantasy/football/story/9930364/Johnson-&-Fitzgerald:-A-matter-of-trust

I wish I was as sold on it as he is!  Warner and Schaub are a tweaked hip and ankle away from horrendous back-ups who can't throw worth shit.  I wish I had a top-5 draft pick.  Oh well, we'll see what happens.

I've got a draft tonight and have the number one pick, AKA Adrian Peterson.  I go from drafting 14th in our league to 1st tonight.  Can't get any further apart.  However, I'll still have back to back picks and 20+ picks in between turns.  That, I hate.  But I can't complain too much, with AP on board.

I can't believe I squeaked out with a win this week. My entire team sucked. My TE and DEF were my highest scorers.

I'm now looking to trade for a WR, though. I have no depth at that position, and now Anthony Gonzalez is likely out several weeks. I have good depth at RB (Steven Jackson, Ronnie Brown, Derrick Ward, Cedric Benson, Mike Bell). If anyone's interested, shoot me a trade.

(D, I already sent one your way.)

I'm surprised I'm 2-0. I scored the second fewest points in week one. And I figured I'd lose this past weekend, but thankfully Schaub and Ronnie Brown decided to show up.

Anyways, I wanted some thoughts on a possible trade I'm doing in my annual friends' league. I've started 0-2, mostly due to bad luck. Two weeks in a row I've played the team that scored the most points. Maybe I'm overreacting, but my friend and I are about to trade half our team to each other.

Here's what I'm giving up:

McNabb
Ryan Grant
Reggie Wayne
Jason Witten
Mike Bell

For:

Matt Schaub
Darren McFadden
Randy Moss
Visanthe Shiancoe
Donnie Avery

I think it's pretty even. McNabb is certainly a better QB than Schaub, but he's got the rib injury. He'll probably miss a couple more games, and even when he does return, I'm worried he won't be able to play like his usual self for awhile. Schaub had a huge day this past weekend, and I was high on him going into the season. Grant and McFadden are about equal, imo; I'd probably give the slight nod to Grant, just because he gets more carries. Wayne and Moss are also close. The Patriots clearly aren't the offense they were two years ago, but Moss is still one of the best fantasy WRs. And I'm worried than Wayne will have a harder time with Gonzalez out for the next few weeks; he'll have nobody to help take pressure off of him. Witten is far better than Shiancoe; I probably won't even keep Shiancoe. Celek and Heap are both available on the waiver wire. And Mike Bell for Avery is difficult to judge. Bell has been good so far, but I don't think he'll continue to produce. Thomas will start to get more carries. Avery has sucked so far, but he put up pretty solid numbers last year. I'm trusting he'll return to that.

Anyways, before it officially goes down, I just want some outsiders' opinions on this. Player-by-player basis I think my friend has a slight advantage, but I desperately need a QB for now. (I started Kyle Orton this past week.)

Title: Re: 2009 Fantasy Football
Post by: faldor on September 22, 2009, 11:51:50 AM
That deal is fine except for the TE exchange, that tips the scales in his favor.  I agree with your analysis everywhere else, but giving up Witten who basically puts up WR numbers would be tough for me to do in that deal.

Title: Re: 2009 Fantasy Football
Post by: sandman on September 22, 2009, 01:01:38 PM
gilee - IMO, it's a bad deal for you. i don't see any clear advantage your way. the only one you can even argue is moss over wayne, but even that is risky.

i actually like grant alot more than mcfadden.

and obviously you are giving up a world class TE for nothing.

personally, i would ride out your 2-0 record for a couple weeks, and pick up a QB in mcnabb's absence. i think he'll be back in 3 weeks right after their bye.

Need some advice.  In one of my other leagues I've got some injury concerns and need to scramble.  Hopefully Wes Welker gets back on the field.  It's not looking good for Kevin Smith right now.  So as of now I'm planning on starting Welker and sitting Smith, but that could change by Sunday.  So, IF that stays true, I'd need to start 2 of the following 3 guys as a RB and RB/WR.

Jerome Harrison - With Jamal Lewis hobbled, he's THE starter in Cleveland and he ran the ball pretty well against a tough Raven defense last week 16 carries for 52 yards and 5 catches for 33.  BUT, Cleveland is a terrible team so a big game isn't likely.  They play home against Cincy this week.

Ricky Williams - Has looked solid this year, but remains the backup to Ronnie Brown.  And with Chad Pennington out that could mean more touches for the RB's.  That could be a good thing.  But overall I think the loss of Pennington weakens the offense overall.  They're home against Buffalo this week.

Pierre Garcon - Indy is a much more explosive offense and Garcon probably has the highest ceiling of my 3 options.  He's made big plays and has scored in each game since Gonzalez got hurt and he became the #2 WR.  The only problem is, he isn't targeted much.  Wayne and Clark are the main options in the passing game.  He only has 7 catches on the year, and only 4 in the last 2 games.  BUT, he obviously made the most of those 4 receptions.  They're home against Seattle this week.

Harrison's a stone cold lock.  Lewis is doubtful and Davis questionable.  That equals probably 2/3 of the carries.
I like Garcon's potential at home as well.

I've got some options for the RB/WR slot.  Who to start?

Lance Moore - @ Miami (6-78-1 last week)
Jamal Lewis - GB (inconsistent.  good week 2 weeks ago, bad week last week against tough Pitt D)
Pierre Garcon - @ St. Louis (either hits big play or doesn't give you much)
Roy Williams - Atl (coming back from injury, what will role be with emergence of Miles Austin?)

Right now I've got Moore in there, hoping he'll build off of last week.  My opponent has Brees, if that factors in at all.  I could hope that he throws to Moore, which would negate points against me, but obviously he's got a lot more options to choose from.  Not sure that should be a reason to start/sit someone though.  I'm just thinking he's the best option at getting the most points.

Any thoughts?

In my money league, I am 1-5 but am averaging over 120 a game. Just horrible scheduling and McNabb getting injured killed me. I should easily be 5-1 right now, but I've seemed to get every game against the person who has the guy come out of nowhere.

I finally lost a game. Congrats, Faldor. One of the dumbest moves I've ever made in fantasy: starting Oakland's defense. Denver was on a bye, there wasn't much to pick from on the waivers, and I figured if the Raiders could stop the Eagles, they could do well against Mark Sanchez. But no, I lost four points for them. I would've been better off just leaving that position empty.

I still would've won last night, though, if Cooley hadn't broken his ankle. His replacement came in and played really well.

Would've, should've, could've.  Didn't happen.  The HTGTH race just got a little tighter.  Obviously still a ways to go, but you could've built a 3 game cushion and that would've been large.  Now it's down to one.

I've got Cooley in another league.  Looks like he might be done for the year.  Time to hit the waiver wire up.

That's my boy, Benny Watson.  I wear his jersey to all Patriot home games with pride.  I actually thought long and hard about getting a new jersey before the season started because it wasn't clear if Watson was even going to make the team out of camp.  He's looked much better this year though.  Brady has confidence in him, and that can go a long way.

well, the guy i was playing picked up Watson and I didn't have a TE

it was the difference in a win and loss exactly.. so had i kept Watson, i'd be in the playoffs

missed out cause I got outscored by 11 measly pts.

Thats the one week I looked like a genius

Well next year no beer & chicken wings before the draft... Hopefully with my better internet connection, yahoo will be more stable too, so I wont be forced to pick up Clinton Portis  ::)

Well, Faldor, it looks like it's up to you and I now to bring the trophy back to HTGTH.

I am proud to say that I've now made the playoffs in each of the three years we've done this league together. Unfortunately, I've still yet to win a playoff game. Hopefully I can change that this weekend.
Yeah, it was a pretty competitive regular season.  Lots of teams just missed out on the playoffs.  A couple teams scored a bunch of points but their records didn't indicated that.  Hate when that happens.  I've been in that situation myself plenty of times.  It's all about matchups in fantasy football.

My team scorched the competition in overall points and earned the #1 seed/first round bye.  BUT, the slates are wiped clean at this point and none of that matters.  It's anyone's game.  Let's wave that HTGTH flag high and mighty.  We're outnumbered 4-2 right now, let's take'em out one at a time.

1st, about the Shackler's League.  Great stuff!  I appreciate the work it took to get it rolling, nice work Faldor.
2nd, I would have been in the playoffs, guaranteed, had I not gone to sleep one week.  I made an acquisition when Favre had a bye week.  I picked up Henne but forgot to put him in!  Actually, I think I made the change, but then switched browsers before I finalized the start/bench, and then proceeded to lose by less than what Henne scored!  Grr.

Last of all, on a good note, my money/dynasty league is in its 12th season, and I'm in the semi-finals of the playoffs this week!  This is a huge year for my squad as bloated payrolls are going to force me to cut talent and take some salary cap hits.

I don't know if I described my league's system before, but it's very cool and I highly recommend it to those looking for a realistic challenge.  1st, it's an auction format.  Once you do an auction draft, you'll never want to do a snake-draft again, they're that good.
Once the teams are all drafted, (we draft 18 slots with $200 imaginary money, your prize pool can be whatever your league wants to agree to chip in as a league fee plus 50 cents per transaction during the season), and start 8 players/week.  qb, 2 rb, 2 wr, 1 te, 1 k, and 1 Defense...no special teams except for blocked kicks/punts returned for touchdowns.
3 divisions of 4 teams each.  You play the other 3 teams in your division twice and every other team once, which adds up to 14 weeks.  weeks 15, 16, and 17 are playoff weeks.  top 8 make the playoffs.
Prizes go to division winners, and a smaller prize goes for the wildcard team...the team with the best record that didn't win their division...plus, a big prize goes to the Regular Season Champ.  It's important to distribute about half of league fees to these regular season winners when you have 8 out of 12 teams in the playoffs.  It helps to ensure teams are not just playing for playoff weeks with all the money riding on the Super Bowl prize.
btw, we have an add/drop deadline of right before Thanksgiving.  Forethought is very important.
teams have until 3 days after the auction draft in August to offer their players multi-year contracts.  I have devised a contract chart that raises salaries about 20% + $1 for each of the first 3 years.  Max. length of a contract is 5 years.  If the 20% + $1 doesn't reach $22 in the 4th year by the calculation, that is what it is set to, and $42 for the 5th season as well. (of course it can be much more than that, but for people who snag a super-talented player cheap, which happens, it's a good protection for the rest of the league).

Another protection from teams getting too much talent locked in for many years, is what I call the Stud Tax.  If a player signed to a multi-year deal finishes in the Top-5 of his position with fantasy points, he gets the Stud Tax placed on him.  When this happens, the formula calls for taking the average of the 4 highest-paid players at that position, and rounding it up to the nearest whole number.  That figure will be the player's next season's salary!  For a good example of this, a guy in our league drafted Chris Johnson last season with a multi-year contract of $1, $6, $6, $22, and $42 respectively.  He didn't finish in the top-5 last season, but this year, he's a clear #1 at the running back position.  So, when we average the top-4 highest paid of the top-5, we get Peterson $58, MJD $52, R. Rice $13, and C Johnson's $6...R. Williams $1 would be the low-ball one thrown out of the equation.  Now, instead of paying CJ $6 next season, his salary will be $33.  Our chart has his 4th and 5th seasons going to $44 and $50 now.  (of course that's if the Top-5 stays where it is with 2 games left in the season)

I also didn't mention there is a salary cap hit if a team chooses to drop a multi-year player.  15% of the player's yearly salary is taken away for each of the players' seasons.  This is used as a check against teams signing every player and then dumping those who don't perform.

I highly recommend this format to anybody looking for some major fantasy football fun.  :peace:

Well, I brought the fantasy football championship back to HTGTH!!! I know I didn't have the best team, but it was consistent all season--- largely thanks to my trio of Schaub, Steven Jackson, and Benson.

This was a pretty good year for me in fantasy. I also won the annual league I do with my friends. Three years in a row I've made the playoffs. Last year I lost in the championship game. I had a 30+ point lead going into that Giants/Panthers Sunday night game, only to watch DeAngelo go ballistic and the other team come from behind. This year, though, I dominated. I had Randy Moss and Brent Celek, who were both huge on Sunday. Oddly, enough, I also had Schaub, Jackson, and Benson in that leage as well.

i took over a shitty keeper money league team

dude was 4-13 last year only scored 1400 pts in 17 games

Ive already scored 1800 and am 7-9 but heavily favored in week 17

kind of playing for a draft pick right now

help me pick 3 keepers please

can only keep 2 at one position by the way

QB McNabb
RB: Deangelo Williams,Matt Forte, Jerome Harrison, Knowshon Moreno
WR: Brandon Marshall, Miles Austin, Marquez Colston, Dwayne Bowe

what three?

I was thinking Austin,Williams and maybe Jerome Harrison

or even Austin,Forte and Harrison *since Stewart came on so strong and will take 50 percent of carries away from D.

D, does where u drafted them make a difference?  For instance, some leagues make you keep the guy with the round you drafted him in.  How do the 3 keepers affect your next year's draft?

btw, I too have a question.  My Super Bowl is Week 17 (yes, I know, it's friggin nuts and definitely explains why the #1 seed has never won our league's super bowl), but anyhow...here's my plan.  Lemme know what ya think

QB: Rodgers, Cassel, Leinart.
*I'm tentaively going with Rodgers...unless the Vikes win the 1:00 game.  Then, I may go with Leinart who will probably be leading scrubs vs. scrubs in a meaningless game with the Packers.  Sure, I could go with Rodgers who will probably play one or 2 quarters...but I will be tempted by Leinart as AZ likely rests old man Warner.

RB:  set with Adrian Peterson in a must-win as he's playing a team just torched by Carolina for over 200 yds rushing.
and Jonathan Stewart against a Saints team that will probably rest everybody.
(that means I'm resting Mendenhall and S-Jax.)

WR:  rollin' the dice with Randy Moss unless he's inactive.
goin' with Crabtree over Colston...just because I see him playing the whole game and Marques probably won't.
         odd-man out is Devery Henderson.

TE:  even though he probably won't play the whole game, Gates over Scheffler.

K:  Kris Brown.  nice matchup in a must-win.

Dfense:  tough one.  very confused.  I have the Cards and the Chargers.  If the Vikes lose (I hope they don't!) but if they did, AZ actually has a reason to win.  If MIN and PHI both lose and AZ wins, AZ gets the #2 seed.  Sooo, right now I have the Chargers D in there hoping the Redskins completely fall apart.  If Min loses, I'll heavily consider rollin with the Cards.

Big $$$ on the line here!  Any and all thoughts welcome!!!

My opponent's got
Brees or Garrard
Gore and Harrison
Wayne, Boldin, Clayton
Witten
Gould or Janikowski
Titans or Texans
1qb, 2rb, 2wr, 1te, 1k, 1D

 :peace:

no, keepers don't affect my draft... im gonna maybe throw this weeks game so i can get the 3rd overall pick.

shit rough situation... depends, does GB hold the tiebreak over Philly? Cause if GB lose and Philly lose, GB could end up 6th seed.....

Id probably go Leinart.. no way they are playing Warner in a meaningless game if it becomes that way

Sit Jackson.. he is banged up

I think u are in great shape... Brees won't play the whole game or at least he shouldn't and Garrard is ok but i like your matchup there

Harrison and Gore though... I think Stewart and AP are better there

WR , Wayne u know isn't gonna play  much and I doubt Boldin will either.

Personally, I'd rather keep any of those other WRs than Austin. I think the guy's overrated. The majority of his stats came in those games when he just EXPLODED. I know he's picked it back up again as of late, but this isn't his first year in the league. Why hadn't he done anything before?

I'd definitely keep Marshall. Your RBs are hard to choose from, though. Williams is the best, but Stewart's going to continue to get more and more carries. Forte flat out sucked this year, but surely he'll be better next season. Harrison has been huge lately, but he still does play for Cleveland. Moreno hasn't been spectacular, but solid.

I'd probably keep Moreno, since he has the most upside. He's done well as a rookie, and he should only improve. Plus he'll probably get more carries next year than he did this year. I don't know which other one I'd choose, though. I'd probably roll the dice with Forte and pray for a bounce-back season.

True, Harrison could be a one hit wonder plus he plays Pitt and Balt twice and Cincy twice who are better at the run this year

Miles just now got his chance to start and finally has gotten the opportunities.

I think Marshall,Forte *If they upgrade the O Line in the offseason* and Moreno

Deangelo is awesome but he just doesn't get the touches or the redzone carries.

D, maybe the whole capless year will be a factor?  I don't know enough about how it will impact player movement, but if it does affect player movement, I'd be tempted to keep Moreno over Forte.  Forte just never looked fast this season...not one spark.  Brandon Marshall's a no-brainer.  I'd also go with Moreno and Bowe.  Tough choices D.  Tank the last game and get that #3 pick. :)

Impossible for me to tank... all my players mostly are playing for something..

if I bench McNabb... shits gonna look funny

True, in my league, there's a "no tank" policy in effect.  Owners risk losing their franchise with any tanking or collusion of any kind.  As commish, I rule with an iron fist.  :)

By the way, with teams finally (kinda) revealing who's playing and who isn't...my roster's getting fucked up!
espn' seems to think Rodgers will still have a good week at qb.  I don't know why...can anybody explain this to me?
I'm thinking of going with Leinart over Rodgers tomorrow...if the Vikings win tomorrow in the 1:00 game of course.  If the Vikes win, the Cards have no chance of getting the #2 seed and bye.

At wide receiver, I'm benching Randy Moss and Marques Colston and rolling with Crabtree and Devery Henderson.

Unfortunately Tony friggin Scheffler's being benched along with Brandon Marshall so I have to roll with Gates who'll probably play a series or 2! Ugh. :(

Chargers team defense is in...unless of course the Vikings lose in the early game, then the Cards need the win so I'd play the Cards D in that case.

So, long story short, whadday think the new odds for my matchup are??????

Rodgers (or Leinart)           vs.  Garrard
Peterson and J. Stewart     vs.  Gore and J. Harrison
Crabtree and D. Henderson  vs.  Boldin and Wayne
Gates                                    vs.  Witten
K. Brown                               vs.  Gould
Charger D (or Cards)            vs. Titans D
p.s. I think I'm in trouble.  :'(

Unfortunately, I went down hard.  The day started great with Stewart running one in from 67 yards out!  However, Frank fuckin Gore scored 2 td's in the 4th quarter (one very late in the game), and his qb Garrard drove the Jags 80 yards for a worthless td in a loss to the Browns.  God dammit!   :hihi:

Now, my team's salary cap is killing me, I've got lots of decisions to make...once I send out all the prize checks, get organized...I'll be asking for some advice on how I should manage my cap.   :peace:

p.s. might I suggest to Gilee, under your picture:  Here Today...as the 2009 HTGTH Fantasy Football Champion!
