the music in tab books are transcribed by guitarists/employees of whoever makes the book...Most tab books are pretty close if not dead on when it comes to transcribing music.  The band/label has to sign off on it to be made though I believe.

When is the release date for the tab book ?

Finally I can get my RHiad better :P, or Scraped.. the hardest songs on the album for sure!

Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm looking at you Voodoo and AdZ), but I have not encountered any instances of the whammy being used on the Guns N' Roses 2008 release "Chinese Democracy."

I was thinking hard myself, but i was more reffering to some of the sounds in general.

And yes, ya can never go wrong with a les paul/marshall!  like zakk says, you see these guys in music stores saying "This amp sounds like a vintage marshall".  So why not just fucking buy a marshall then?  :hihi:

14.?Prostitute?: ?Prostitute? goes from hushed verses to a towering chorus washed in guitars and theatrical orchestration making it a fitting closer. It?s not clear who Rose is directing the lyrics to when he sings, ?Oh, I saw the damage in you, my fortunate one, the ending of you,? but the intent is there, seething right below the surface. There is some whammy-bar assisted bombast towards the final seconds that comes out of nowhere but somehow works in the scheme of the song. So just like that, Chinese Democracy comes to and end.

Not whammy bar, but the actual whammy pedal effect (also used by Buckethead in several other songs like Chinese, Shacklers, Riad...). So, your Les Paul would do just fine in all songs except the ones with Bumblefoot's fretless guitar (tho you can still pull it off).

I know, I was asking if the band agreed.

I don't think all those bends is all that easy to pull it off 100%. I'd say the easiest ones are Robin's solo in TWAT and Bucket outro in SOD.

I have a tab book for all the old songs and I notice that all the RIFFS are tabbed basically the same as Slash/Izzy played em.  But the SOLO'S were different.  Slash seemed to play them in different positions than tabbed in the book. 
Particularily Civil War, Jungle and estranged.  Hard to explain with showing though  :hihi:

This i love solo.  It looks pretty accurate enough although i dont have guitar in hand so cant really be sure.

I also have tab books for all the old songs, yet they are not for my benefit, I do not play either, but my husband is an avid guitar collector, I believe he has about 35 in collection, his fave being a 1962 Chet Atkins Gretch Nashville, needless to say I will be adding the new book to the collection, great news Voodoo and thanks : ok:.

Well, in traditional GN'R fashion, the CD tab book is now supposedly re-scheduled for a later date. I preordered off of Amazon, and it was supposed to be sent the 30th. As of today (the 1st), it stated that it has no release date and will be shipped when a release date is confirmed. I dont mind having it arrive a few days later, but then I checked other websites besides Amazon, and barely any have it listed. I could not even find it on Hal Leonards' website. So my question, Have any of you purchased this, and do you have it in hand?

UPDATE: Local Guitar Center and small music shop have no record of it in their systems. Damn it...

Waltons is the main guitar store in Dublin.  Just searched their website and couldnt find it.  Found a few Guns books but nothing for CD.  Not sure how often they update their site though. (But im assuming they do)

I don't think the band was involved with the making and distribution of the book.  They never made an announcement themselves.

2) Bands don't normally provide tab. It's not like musicians actually tab out their own work. At most they edit/approve it after the publisher's guy is done tabbing it.

In the pic, it looks like it MIGHT be both...but with the small size, the words on the picture (both of which I completely understand the reasoning behind), and my bad eyes...I figured better to confirm.

To be honest, I don't know the difference between "sheet music" and "tab" so this is going to be a really sucky explanation.

It does say the word TAB at the beginning of the 5 lines with the numbers on them (if that makes any sense to you).  As opposed to the 4 lines above that that has like an & sign followed by the music note symbol things??

I'm pretty sure it has the intro music too because the lyrics part doesn't start till like 1/3 of the way down on the 2nd page.

Also, in between most sections are like flat music note things (not the little round ball things at the end of the other music notes) with letters and numbers above them (like D5 over one; F5 and D5 over another; etc.)

Edited to add:  Also there's notations about things like "Whammy Pedal" and "w/ wah-wah" and "Chord symbols reflect basic harmony"


As for the illegible scan with the HTGTH written on it:  As I stated before, Black Frog Music is listed FIRST in the copyright.  As you may or may not know, (I don't even know where I heard this from) that company is directly linked to a certain member of GNR and I really really DO NOT want to be the subject of any upcoming rants for stealing his shit.  :nervous:

Not a sucky explanation at all.

The 5 lines are the Tab...they show a guitar player exactly which string and fret to hold to play a note (or notes, or chords...whatever needs to be played)

The 4 lines (FACE) are the actual sheet music.
 

All standard music notations describing how something should be played (or with what effects pedal you should use/activate to play those notes)


COMPLETELY understand that part!  That's why I asked.  I don't mind not being able to tell, for sure......and I didn't want a larger/clearer scan. :)  What you gave me was PERFECT!  I'm off to order it, now.

Damn, forgot how hard it will be to really play this thing as it should... Lots of gear and effects (IE killswitch, whammy, fretless...).

You can play the music without the gear and effects.  Obviously, it won't sound exactly the same (though you'd probably have to get creative to deal with the fretless), but it will sound "close". :)

Some of the effects stuff is pretty cheap.  The Wah Wah and grunge pedals aren't too bad ($50 or so).  The Whammy pedals are pricey, though.  Digitechs run about $120-$160 bucks at Daddy's (new....used you can get 'em for less).

I have both Wah (original Dunlop Cry Baby) and whammy (on my Beringher setup, not that great but at least it's something).

Still, it doesn't sound like it should with killswitch and fretless.

I don't think anything helps with fretless, but I had a buddy do this for a kill switch:

Worked for him...he attached his project box (which isn't nearly as big as the behemoth in the pictures on that site) via suction cup.  He refused (and I don't blame him) to drill his baby to install one "local".  He had no problem risking an amp cable, though.  :)

Usually, yes. 

Though I actually find (and this could be a quirk of my 2 local shops...a Borders and a Barnes and Noble) they tend to be LESS reliable than ordering on-line.  I've ordered stuff "local" and never gotten a call the item is in.  I call a couple weeks later to check up...and it's been sitting in the store for a week or so....  ::).  I never seem to have much luck going that route.

Maybe you need a small independent store. Where they value the customers!

I wish we had one nearby.  They've all shut down...the "big boys" ran them out of business.  In FACT, the people who used to run the last one (Called, incidentally, "The Corner Book Store")...now work for Borders.

I stopped at the one I pass on my way home last night....they didn't have it.  They said they plan on carrying it, but haven't had any show up in the store, yet.

Someone else writes it, so it may not be exactly how the particular guitarist plays it but its as near as you'll get to it!

The ONLY mention of "someone else" is on the bottom of Page One. (like this part isn't a big deal  :hihi: )

Even the Hal Leonard Corporation info is only listed on the bottom of Page One.

The rest of the 230 pages seem to ONLY mention the GNR peoples with song writing credits for each individual song and all the copyright info associated with each song.

And as I've mentioned before, they specify whether it's Ron or Robin or Buckethead's guitar solos they're transcribing.

I finally gave in and canceled my Amazon order, and got it from Musicdispatch with Fedex home deliver.

I wasn't sure about the credibility of this site, but it seems fine and Fedex should hopefully het here next year.

I have been tabbing out TWAT for a bit, mostly the solo, but there is so much going on that this book is really going to be a help.

The book is thick, very detailed. I am starting with Scraped, and so far it sounds very accurate.

Also, Shackler's is rediculous. The solo is just not gonna happen ahah  :smoking:

I've never seen anyone playing that solo, don't worry about that. The scary part is: Ron himself probably had to re-learn it by ear after two years since he played it... you know, you play a solo and after two years you have to learn it by ear to rehearse with the band.

I think it was Joe Satriana who said that Ron has a photographic memory for music and is able to reproduce anything instantly after hearing it ;)

I don't think it's because it's about guitars (especially since Brain is listed on some song credits).  I think it's just those "copyright" laws/rules that have to be followed when you're using someone's stuff like this.

they had it on all online stores here and when I ordered mine few days after that I got a message that they wont send it and they will remove it from their stock ( this happened in all of the stores !!!!! ) . And no one is willing to answer why ??  :drool: :drool:

Just got mine from Music Dispatch.
For those who have spent time with the book- which songs are the easiest to quickly get into and annoy the neighbors with?
A lot of the solos would take a lifetime to learn.  I shared the book with my guitar teacher, and he was amazed at the creativity and complexity.  As he put it, "this is real talent."
