I'm on a Newbury Comics email that lists what the new releases are every week... Chinese Democracy is listed as being released tomorrow.
I wonder how long Best Buy had the exclusive?

Guess it was 6 months.

I don't see anything on the website.  Seems kind of far-fetched.  Then again, this IS Guns N' Roses.  So anything is possible I guess.

When I go to Fenway Park, I'm from Long Islad, I try to hot Newbury Comics. The nw store in Quincy Market is great.. Too much Liberal politics though..

There's one in the mall here in CT, at least there was last time I checked.  I'm not completely buying this story, but if it's true I'd definitely check it out.  I'll try and investigate it sometime today.

Perhaps post a screen grab of e-mail?  And their website blows - out of date (last night 'new releases' were 5/18).  It seems odd that nobody else (store wise) has anything on this, and NC is only a small regional chain. 

Probably just a new release for that particular store (I've been to Newbury Comics and it's a pretty cool place.) My local record store has been selling CD since about December.

I'll be in the mall area tomorrow, I'll try to check it out then.  Not sure if I can get over there today.

It's on Newbury Street, in Boston. They sell comics, music, toys and tchotchkes.

Somebody might wanna check if it's an import....

Yeah, I'm pretty sure many independent stores have been selling imports. It was priced at about $18.99 here which is higher than any domestic albums at the store.

I wouldn't make too much of this.

I was in Newbury Comics today and they had one new copy for sale. You could see the Best Buy Exclusive sticker on it, but it was covered up by the new price sticker.

Was there today. Didn't see it anywhere. WAIT i'v seen it there for 9.99 used at one time. TODAY nothing.

How much was it?  More than at Best Buy?  I would imagine so.

I think it was like 12 bucks.

I see the e-mail on the previous page lists it as $14.99.  Interesting, I don't think it really means anything.  Maybe someone in charge at Newbury Comics is a GNR fan.

Odd to say the least.  Anyone up at Best Buy HQ able to tell us if they are selling off inventory?  Any pierced/tatooed/dope smoking* Newbury employees able to tell us where they came from (not likely)?

*having bought 90% of my rather large CD collection in Peabody, MA at NC - I can only assume the entire chain shares their hiring practices.

My local indie chain (Gallery Of Sound) has been selling CD since Friday, Nov. 21st - and sure enough, they were Canadian imports.

Has anybody ever thought of calling best buy/mailing them and just asking how long CD is supposed to be an exclusive for?

I really doubt that anyone would have any clue. Home office might, maybe - but I doubt the teenage kids working there would know.

I went to a Newbury Comics in the mall here in CT today and they had 2 new copies of Chinese Democracy selling for $11.88, and one used selling for $9.99.  It was kind of strange seeing it in a store again, as I haven't entered a Best Buy since November 23rd.  There were no special signs for it or anything though, just placed with all the other GNR CD's.  And it surely did have the "Only available at Best Buy" stickers clearly on there, though they tried to rip them off as best as they could.  So I'm not sure how/why the got them, if they had a deal with Best Buy or what?  Are the CD's found in independent record shops clearly from Best Buy, like these?

Found a few copies at another NC, from Best Buy.

Best Buy probably pulled all extras off the shelf and sold them to a distributor or a chain (in this case Newbury Comics).  Interesting that they do that... I bet it's done for all albums that they have huge promotions for.

They probably buy those copies from BB when BB has those $9.99 sales.  They don't even have to mark it up too much, it still seems like a deal.
