Title: Let's remember just how good Chinese Democracy is....
Post by: gav on June 08, 2009, 02:08:43 PM
Ok so I felt it was time for a resurgence in admiration for the epic work known as Chinese Democracy, released by Guns N? Roses on the 23rd of November 2008.

There is too much shit flying around the boards and a lot of bad vibes, and the recent report from the New York Daily News is merely fuelling this.

So I wanted to start a thread whereby fans can show their appreciation for a truly amazing album.

Right now we shouldn?t care so much about whether a tour is happening, or whether we will ever see new studio music from this band

For me personally, this album is the perfect example of escapism. I come home from work after a shitty day, put this record on, have a jar or two and I feel a whole lot fuckin better.

That?s what music is all about for me, and Chinese Democracy provides it in bucket-loads.

And I'd just like to thank Axl and gnr for that...

correction... let's remember how GREAT chinese democracy is!

to me, this album takes me on an emotional roller coaster like nothing else.  i want to beat up people when i listen to the hard hitting stuff like chinese democracy and shackler's revenge.  but then i can get deep and philosophical while listening to street of dreams and madagascar.  and i still get teary eyed when i listen to this i love and think about girlfriends and pets that i've lost over the years.

all in all, it is hands down, the greatest album of all time.  there's really nothing that comes close.

Shacklers is now my song-reference when I need to compare sound systems or mp3 players. I just bought a new one and the song I needed to test it was Shacklers because of all the frequences it has. Awesome tune too, of course.

Ive been listening to this record in a daily basis since November 23rd. Not tired at all, I enjoy it even more. :D

Tis a perfectly Ok album! I give it 6.8 out of 10 on highly accurate LTD-scale.

In that case, i give it 18 out of 10.

the new york TIMES doesn't have a gossip column does it?

anyhoo good call overall : ok:

like voodoo, Im still listening to it daily and finding new appreciation.

Yeah, it's a good record, but we seem to be the only few who care.

I don't understand the logic in putting out a quality record that was a decade and a half in the making, then release ONE official single (which, in my opinion, is the weakest track on the CD), release ZERO official video singles, and not tour in a timely fashion to promote the CD.

"This I Love" is tailor-made for 12-15 year old girls, especially those 'Twilight' fanatics. Not to say it can't reach an older audience-I love the song myself- but that song can do for the band what "Sweet Child O' Mine" did for teenage girls 20+ years ago.

It's just a real shame that aside from the release of the CD, everything else that has or hasn't happened reeks of typical GN'R of the last fifteen years.

This album is the perfect recipe to make me happy instantly. It's refreshing, modern, glamorously aggresive, inspiring.

I look into the past and I wonder... how could I really consider myself a die-hard GNR fan without having listened to this album?

I can be buried by problems, at work, at study, at family, various problems from daily life... but I know I put Riad at some dangerous volume and all my problems are absolutely solved for 4:10

Thank you Axl and thank you all members of Guns for this.

I have my alarm set to wake me up to the sounds of Chinese Democracy every day.  Can't think of a better way to start the day.  Only problem is, it makes it hard to get out of bed because I want to continue listening.  Thus, my day starts a little later than it normally would.

Falungong, why do keep stating it's the greatest album or lineup of all time? There is no question that this is a good album made by good musicians. However, the greatest of all-time?! I respectfully disagree with you on that.  For me and many others, it's AFD and that lineup. Furthermore, I think the greatest two bands were the Rolling Stones and Beatles. Rock music would not be the same without those two bands.

All in all CD has good quality songs like Better, Sorry, TWAT, IRS, CD, ITW, Street of Dreams, and Madgascar. However, to say the best is really putting it higher than it should be. Enjoy the music  for what it is!

that's sad but true, unless the next Guns album sees the light of the day someday in less than 40 years. Guns is one of the very few bands to be currently able to release a great album in the ?short? term. Metalllica, NIN, something from The Beatles taken from Apple's vaults... and I cant see many more possibilities. Yeah, I'm kinda negative about rock music's future.

I wonder how the next GNR album will be titled. I cant believe there is not a monster speculation thread about the next GNR album's title yet  :hihi:

Apart from "Shackler's Revenge", "Scraped" and "Catcher In The Rye", I think it's a pretty great record.

The other tracks range from good to brilliant for me.

Also LOVEEEEEEEEEEEE Catcher the Demo Brian May version but the guitar solos ruin it for me on Chinese D.

Overall, the leaks really destroyed this album for me as I can't imagine how long it would've stayed in my CD player had I heard it all fresh at the same time.

Madagascar though, 8 years later, still have yet to tire of it. best song on the CD IMO.

Yeah, it's a good record, but we seem to be the only few who care.
So? Do you need others to appreciate the record?

As a matter of fact, yes- I would like for others to appreciate the record.

It didn't take just word of mouth for 'Appetite For Destruction' to become one of the biggest sellers of all time. It took a classic video in the form of "Welcome To The Jungle" to get the old GN'R discovered, then it took a video and radio single for "Sweet Child O' Mine" to bust the thing wide open.

Sadly, the majority of the U.S. population thinks there can never be a Guns N' Roses that does not include Slash, Duff, Izzy, and Steven/Matt. They will simply ignore Chinese Democracy, no matter how good it is.

That's why somebody needs to get off their ass and push a single and/or video, with "This I Love" being my recommendation. It's not Best Buy's job anymore to promote the record. They've held up their end of the deal, to carry it.

I'm not whining, I'm trying to get someone to give a shit and promote this album the way it ought to be promoted.

The topic is about HOW good CD is right?  How good is it?  Its a question in the topic. A question left to discuss in this thread, right?  So saying its good, but not as good as Appetite, is a legitimate and ON TOPIC statement in this thread, right? Or Is this thread just supposed to be "Chinese Democracy is the greatest ever" posts over and over?  If so, whats the point?

If you don't get the idea behind the topic, there's this saying you might have heard of: Shut the fuck up.

It's about talking about how GOOD it is, yes, not just randomly saying you listen to it less than the other albums. Does that contribute to the thread at all?

That being said, I still think Chinese Democracy is the best album I've heard. After taking a break from it from some time (to not wear it out completely), I just recently "rediscovered" it, I realized all over again how much of an astonishing album it is. It perfectly describes all the feelings I relate to. The heartbreak, the rock n' roll attitude of not giving a fuck what others say and finding your own way, no matter how long it takes and no matter how much you are pressured, everything. And it's all done with such perfection, and with W. Axl Rose's voice on top! How much better can it get? ;D

The topic is not phrased as a question.  It's a statement.  The title of the thread is not, let's discuss how you feel about Chinese Democracy, good or bad.  There are PLENTY of other topics littered with complaints.  This one was not supposed to be filled with any.  It's quite simple really.

I think the point is that people should take a little time out from their whining to play the album and realize how great it is.

It's not about comparing. Comparing albums to each other and picking your favorite is a Dead Horse topic.  : ok:

I'm so surprised!

I don't know what do to.... My whole world view has changed!

Sorry, jarmo.

I had no idea that the frequency in which I listen to the album would be construed as de-railing a thread or worthy of one of your classy one-liners.

In my defense, this is the first forum that I ever belonged to where only one track thinking is tolerated.

You really have no defense to fall back on. You should be aware of your surroundings by now.

No, you're supposed to listen to the whole album. Not just one track!

No wonder you don't get it.

No, I'm not being serious about the one track thing....

Its not, its just tiring that no matter what, there are a few people here who feel the need to remind us everytime that they post that they prefer the older gnr lineups.  Come on now, isn't that basically the message you were trying to convey with your post?   The same message you have in the 203 posts before that one.  We get it.
