SLASH's Mother Dies - June 7, 2009

BLABBERMOUTH.NET has learned that Ola Hudson, the mother of former GUNS' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash, passed away Friday, June 5 around 6:00 p.m. PST after a battle with lung cancer. She was a professional costume designer named who tailored outfits for such acts as John Lennon, Diana Ross and the POINTER SISTERS.

"[Slash] was drawing from the time he could pick up a pencil," Ola Hudson told Rolling Stone magazine in an early 1990s interview. "I've been shocked at a lot of things I've read where it sounds like I left him on somebody's doorstep in a basket. They make it seem as if he never had a family and grew up on the streets like an urchin, but that's not true. It's just part of his image. He's not all leather and tattoos."

You know, I could see Slash with all this pain and sorrow inside probably wanting to write a very emotional moving piece of music that sounds very inspired.  Maybe he will dedicate something to her on the new album.  I am thinking like Street Child, but with a more personal feel.

I can 't imagine what it's like to loose your mother. My mother had cancer when I was 15 years old (which is already 16 years ago). Fortunatelly she fought as hard as she could and she totally recovered her health.

Guitarist Slash?s mother dies in Los Angeles

Costume designer Ola Hudson, who made outfits for the likes of David Bowie, John Lennon and Ringo Starr but is perhaps better known as the mother of former Guns N? Roses guitarist Slash, has died after a battle with lung cancer, a longtime friend said.

Hudson died at Saint John?s Health Center in the Los Angeles municipality of Santa Monica on Friday evening, according to Arlett Vereecke. She was 62. In addition to Slash, 43 ? whose real name is Saul Hudson ? she is survived by another son, graphic artist Albion ?Ash? Hudson, 38, as well as her ex-husband, English artist Anthony Hudson.

In a Twitter message late on Monday, Slash said he was back in the studio working on a solo project, ?but I?m having a hard time concentrating.?

His mother dated Bowie after her marriage broke up in the mid-1970s. ?I really didn?t like him that much, because he was the new guy in the house,? Slash said of Bowie in a 1990 interview with Rolling Stone magazine. ?I was really resentful.?

Funeral arrangements were still being finalized.

Hello all, as some of you may already know, my mom (Ola Hudson) died 6:30am last Friday morning of Lung Cancer. This is a difficult time, but I have to share with you that she was the sweetest, warmest, most loving human being I've ever known (next to my grandmother on her side), as well as one of the most creative & talented. She was also the coolest Rock & Roll mom a Rock junkie like myself could ever possibly want to have. She was responsible for exposing me to a lot of the music that would influence me as a musician growing up. As well as introducing me to "the life" & priming me to survive this crazy business that I'm now in. But more importantly, she turned me on to all different forms of art & the importance of artistic self expression & creative communication thru music & dance from as early on as I can remember. She really was all things artistic & creative personified & the world is a lesser place without her.

 I still haven't grasped fully that she is gone & this is going to take some time to process. But, I have gotten a lot of really genuine condolences from many of you & I want to tell you that I appreciate it more than you can possibly know. My family & I thank you for your support.

Whatever my or anyone else's opinion of Slash is, at a time like this we are all reminded of our shared humanity.  I feel for the guy, and see now why he has quit smoking - finally.  Thank you Ola, for giving us Slash, without whom we may not have had GnR.  I am sure that is not her only contribution to humanity, but I obviously do not know her personally.  I hate to see anyone lose a friend/family member.   :'(

My mother nearly died a few months ago.

I live about 400 metres away from her and was woken by an emergency call....needless to say I RAN over and was confronted by 2 sets of paramedics working on her, it was horrendous and a i consoled my 19 year old sister who was vomiting out of fear. I also was confronted by my own fears and was as terrified as I have ever been. She subsequently spent 10 nights in intensive care. To this day we dont know what happened, the only explanation is a possible spider bight.

Slash, I as a fellow human being wish to offer my sincere warmth, respect and love.

Seems a few regular posters on here have abstained, but then i guess that shows the depth some stoop too. Unfortunately the cult of celebrity has led many idiots to de humanise 'celebrities' .....theres a lot of people who have no real lives and dissect an take others arguments on as their own.

It's not only on blabbermouth, it showed up on his official website also. I remember when I first read about his mother's passing Arlette's name came up and I thought that was kind of strange.

The long time Slash publicist that Slash had a falling out with after the first VR album who he later re hired.  Something about maybe Pearla and her didn't see eye to eye or something.  Who knows.  Or maybe it was someone in the band that didn't like her.

I didn't know that he re-hired Arlette. Anyway, Slash claims that he knows who posted the funeral info so it would be interesting to know who it was. Whoever it was it was a really terrible thing to do.

I thought most funerals were announced.... I mean Slash died I would expect to know where his funeral was so I could pay respects.  I guess he wanted this private and only wanted to invite family and friends.  Maybe he didn't want the media there during this private event. 

I think I remember, she was going to represent Slash only, for solo one off type thngs and they had another manager for VR, but at first she was VR's publicist and she said some shit about Scott and Scott got pissed and said some harsh stuff about her.

That's not necessesarily true. There is absolutely such thing as a private funeral that only family and whoever the family wants can attend. I doubt Slash wants his fans that didn't even know his mother to attend. I'm more than sure he doesn't want those sleazy photographers there. I'm still baffled as to why someone would do this to him.

Yes, I don't think you send invitations out for a funeral, usually anyone that wants to go can go.  Addresses are good to know for people that may want to send flowers and such.

The memorial information has now been removed from Snakepit.org., they have removed all mention of her passing.  It's too bad that this happened, I would have to think that the plans now have changed.

It says that the picture was taken not too long ago and Slash's mother looks very healthy. I guess it just shows how fast things can happen. Poor Slash. :'(

Hey kids, it seems a certain unnamed individual, unnamed mostly because only a handful of people know or care who she is, is spewing really hateful shit about my wife & I to anybody on the net that will pick it up. I know this psycho woman well, she was once involved in GnR's career in the 80's but got fired because she's.........well, psycho. And, trust me everybody who has ever worked with her will attest to that with utmost enthusiasm. She also attempted a partnership with my wife not long ago, but her less than stable behaviour was the catalyst for an abrupt end to that relationship as well. So, now she is bitter & pissed off & trying as hard as she can to get attention through the media with a smear campaign using my mom's passing as her vehicle. Normally I wouldn't react to this nonsense & Perla & I wouldn't be fazed by her ranting, but the accusations she is spitting about the relationship between my mom & my wife & I are way below the belt & obviously intended to be as harmful as possible. I will handle this how I see fit, but I wanted my family, friends & fans to know that this individual is an intensely vindictive person who is out for blood anyway she can get it & her statements have absolutely no merit whatsoever. So, don't buy in to her bullshit, she's desperate for attention, & consumed with some misplaced entitlement or something worse.

It's probably Arlett Vereecke, I believe her name was brought up earlier in this thread. She fits the profile slash described perfectly. She was fired by gnr/slash, not sure which one, in the late 80's.
A couple of years ago slash hired her again to be his publicist but later fired her because she had couldn't get along with Perla I believe, atleast that's what Arlett claimed.

I googled her not knowing who she really is.  It seems she was somehow involved in "Live Era 87-93 as she is mentioned in the liner notes, but it does not mention what her involvement was.  It also says she is an artist.

Its weird though that so many celebertys die around the same time...
