Title: Very sad
Post by: tim_m on June 04, 2009, 06:27:54 AM
I know some of you have noticed i havent been around.  A lot has been going on. First, im in the hospital. Im posting this from my phone. I ended up getting a bad bed sore. Ive been here 15 days and am about to go nuts and don't know how much longer ill be here. Then on monday my dad saw a surgeon about his hernia. He told the dr about all his complaints. So the dr checked him out and found a mass in his lower left abdomen. He had a ct scan tuesday. My sister who works for the dr my dad saw first brought home the scan report. Its really bad. There is more than one mass. Its likely colon cancer. We will find out for sure today and see where we go from here. This has beeo a rough few weeks for me. Landing in here and facing the very likely fact i will lose my dad in the near future. Please keep us both in your thoughts and i hope ill be back soon.

Sorry i cant quote text with my phone. Whoever asked why ive been in the hospital so long. Its because my bed sore was infected and almost down to the bone. They dont want to let me go until its filled in and not deep. They dont want me to end up right back here.

why were you there in the first place? I mean bed sore doesn't come by itself (unless you play a lot of wow while lying down).

best wishes to you and your dad man. I dont know how much time does that cancer exist in your father's organism, but if its something relatively recent, there's a lot that doctors and chemotherapy can do to save your father's life.

You need to have faith and never give up, and you'll see how things will be ok. God bless you.

Well things have changed since my last update. They are going to do surgery on me called a skin fold and they want to do a bone biopsy cause they think the bone may be infected. If it isnt infected ill be here another 4wks. If they find it is it will be 6wks. Wish me luck! As for my dad it looks like his surgery will be next week.

Well a lot has happened since my last update. I had my surgery on friday and it went well. I am healing well so far and there is no bone infection. Ill probably be here 3 more weeks. Dad had his surgery tuesday. It went well and there was no sign it spread. Unfortunately the good news didn last. Just hours later he had a massive heart attack. He had near total blockage in 3 arteries. They put in stents to open and clear them. He made it through the first 24 hrs which was critcal. He was doing better. They might remove his breathing tube today. Please continue to keet him in your thoughts and prayes.

cancer is a bitch. as there are always doubts that you won't suffer a recurrence or two for 5 yrs, you should be careful and unafraid.

Well unfortunately my dad isn't doing so well again. He has a few serious problems right now. First his foot has been swollen and cold. He had to have tests done on it today and they found blood clots. He has also been having chest pains that go into his arm and shortness of breath. They gave him nitroglycerine to put under his tongue when he has the pains to prevent heart attack. He has to go for an angiogram on tuesday. They're gonna look at his heart and his foot. The angiogram will give them a better look at things. After that they will decide what to do next. Ok so he had his angiogram this morning. There was new blocks on the other side of his heart. They put in 3 new stents and did an angioplaste. The blocks on the other side haven't worsened so they ddin't mess with them. They said if his heart continues the way its going he will need open heart surgery. They are keeping him overnight for observation and we are unsure how long he will be off work or what he will be able to do when he goes back. The dr said they'd decide on that when he's raedy to go back. He was in good spirits during the procedure and awake for most of it. He was joking with the dr's and nurses. The nurse swears he fell asleep but he denies it eventhough he was snoring. We still don't know about his foot yet. We will know more about that when he sees the cardiovascular surgeon on thursday.

Your dad needs a great support system.

my dad knew the changes he needed to make, but after 40 plus years of living wrong, he just couldn't flip the switch and live right.

so if yours can just do the diet, take the meds etc.. he can have a lot of time left.

That's so funny because my dad also denied he was snoring during his last angio.  :hihi:

It seems like every other year my dad has to go through this too.  These procedures are awesome and I pray that it fixed everything for your dad.... but know that even if somewhere down the line that open heart surgery might be needed that the recovery time is only a few weeks and the successful results are nothing short of amazing!!!

Your dad sounds like a great guy with a great attitude (and a great son, of course).

Know that you and your dad continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.  :)

That is funny. Yeah he was arguing with the nurse about it. Nope i was a awake. I just had my eyes closed. Nurse but you were snoring.

I hope that it did too. I know that. I just worry about him making it through the surgery with an already weakened heart from his two massive heart attacks.

I was actually surprised by how good his spirits were through the procedure. Its not usually like him to be cracking jokes like that. I'm guessing its his way of dealing with being scared.

Thank you :)

Well dad saw the vascular surgeon today. He has to go back in the hospital on the 17th. They're gonna put stents in his foot for the clots and see how it goes from there. It kinda concerns me that this won't be done for almost two weeks but it was the next time the doctor is available to do it.

Tim you got to be carefull with those doctors though.
They will try to get your dad in one of those rehibilitation places to live.
Those places could get him killed from just the desises there.
Also they even hire convicts to watch those people.

I know all this from the experences I had to go though with helping my grandparents with my parents.
And also in my family there are a few nurses that also gave us good information.

Many prayers sent your way Timonthy.  Your father seems to be a fighter, it seems quite the miracle in itself to survive the two massive heart attacks.  Wishing the best for you, and a safe recovery for your father.

Thank you, yes he is really fighting all this hard. Definitely, to just barely make it out of surgery to remove the cancer without having the heart attacks.

I wish your dad well.  It's so hard seeing a loved one suffer.
