Title: Official Slash Twitter and Myspace Update Thread
Post by: Naupis on June 04, 2009, 03:01:01 AM
I figured I would start a Twitter page for Slash for those who are following him. Some of his various posts are scattered through other threads, but this avoids starting a new one for anytime he says something interesting. He has been updating it through the making of his album process, so we can use this thread to post updates. His most recent one from today was:

"Writing some string parts for one of the tunes tomorrow, should be interesting. #fb"

He also has his weekly Myspace update he does:

May 29, 2009 - Friday

Weekly update
Hey all, how's it going? I've been really busy with recording etc, I haven't been keeping in touch.

Outside of working on the record things have been quiet. No VR updates as of this writing, but I'm anxious to see something happen with an amazing frontman for the band in the not too distant future, whoever that might be.

My gig at the Quart Fest is coming up in Norway, June 30th. Which, is starting to come together. I'll post who all's playing next week, but it's a great line-up & the songs so far are shaping up to be a really great set.

As far as the record goes, we're almost done with vocals, 2 more songs left & a couple odds & ends. Then, I can stand back & see what we've got. It is a fucking awesome ensemble, that much I do know, with brilliant performances from each & every singer. I do hope to have a release date soon, but I can assure you, as I said before, it won't be this year. It will, most definitely, be out be very early in the new year. Even though the recording process is almost done, the legal logistics involved with so many different artists takes a minute to iron out.

When the record is released I plan on posting what gear was used on what songs; guitars, amps etc. Although, most of it was done with one guitar & 2 amps. A lot of interesting mike set-ups though. The record is being recorded anolog as well, this might be one of the last rock & roll records to be recorded that way, no joke. So, of course, I have to release it on vinyl, as well as cd.

Right then, I guess that's it. I'll have the Quart Fest line-up for you guys next week & anything else that comes up as well, have a good one.

Ola Hudson
Hello all, as some of you may already know, my mom (Ola Hudson) died 6:30am last Friday morning of Lung Cancer. This is a difficult time, but I have to share with you that she was the sweetest, warmest, most loving human being I've ever known (next to my grandmother on her side), as well as one of the most creative & talented. She was also the coolest Rock & Roll mom a Rock junkie like myself could ever possibly want to have. She was responsible for exposing me to a lot of the music that would influence me as a musician growing up. As well as introducing me to "the life" & priming me to survive this crazy business that I'm now in. But more importantly, she turned me on to all different forms of art & the importance of artistic self expression & creative communication thru music & dance from as early on as I can remember. She really was all things artistic & creative personified & the world is a lesser place without her.

I still haven't grasped fully that she is gone & this is going to take some time to process. But, I have gotten a lot of really genuine condolences from many of you & I want to tell you that I appreciate it more than you can possibly know. My family & I thank you for your support.

 Sincerely,
   Slash

Kind of awesome Slash took time to thank everyone for the support he's been getting when I know for myself making sure I found a computer and did a weekly Myspace update would be the last thing I would be worrying about. Let's hope this will serve as his inspiration to not fall off the wagon in any way. Steven said he quit smoking recently, probably because of having found this out. I hope he sticks with it as I am sure he thought of the effect losing him would have on his kids now that he is in that position with his mom.

Also, its a nit picky thing, but how about anyone who updates the thread with stuff from his Myspace/Twitter put the Update in Bold, so we know what part is Slash's stuff and then what our commentary is. It will help with organization I think.

"It WAS a kick ass band"?   ???

Someone should FYI him that Guns N' Roses didn't die with him and of the kick ass GNR-tours in the last four years, not to mention the evolved and epic album released 9 months ago!

It IS a kick ass band!!   : ok:

He was clearly reffering to the late 80s and early 90s!  There can't be an "is" in the past!

And even if one was to speak of CD, that band is also in the past.

Nobody has heard the current line up yet.

C'mon man.... ::)

The fact that Slash spends time watching old clips of himself in the band and saying how it WAS a kick ass band. It just doesn't sit right!

Grasping at straws much?

So by your logic, VR is also in the past since nobody has heard the current line-up (if there is one)?

I'm not a fan of everything Slash has done. Needless to say I love the GNR-albums he's on. I got all the Snakepit and VR albums. But to me I got bored with them very quick.

With that said, I must admit I have some expectations for the Slash w/friends project he's got going. Considering all different musicians taking part on that album. I can sorta anticipate how I think it will sound, but I'm prepared that I might be surprised.....   :)

And with THAT said,   :)   His tweets regarding the project is getting a bit over the top! ("Just did a solo, sounds fuckin' INSANE!", "Finished a new track today, it's mindblowing")

It's well and good to try and hype you current album, but jeez man, ease up just a little on the self-praise....   ::)

I do kinda agree.  i just stopped reading them.  i log on once in awhile and have a quick read.  In fairness i wouldn't expect him to say "Done a solo, it sucks" lol. but he could cut back a little.

But as for updating in general, im really glad to have all the updates on myspace etc.  It lets me know what one of favourite musicians is working on and planning for the future. I know that Slash is working on solo album, Duff on loaded and they're still looking for a VR singer but Slash is gonna tour his solo album and VR will probably start after that.

It does frustrate me that ive no clue about whats happening with Guns in the present or future.  (if anything).  buts thats another topic

I hear you! There is something in between over-the-top-self-glorification and no updates at all!   ;)

Do I secretly wish that Axl would post an update saying something like: "Right now we're working on finnishing CDII, putting together artwork AND putting together the REAL artwork for CD. CD with real artwork will be re-released when best-buy exclusive ends in mid september" ?  YES!  :-\

But then again, what's going to happen is going to happen regardles if you're told in advance....   ;)

Dude there is no disrespect

Old school GNR are one of the greatest bands of all time.

The new band released a great CD but they still have a long way to go to be "Great" in the eyes of the public and in the history books.

Nothing compares to GNR 88-91

and it just isn't the members no longer in the band either.

Just watch Axl back in 91 and he himself knows he can't touch what he was in 91 back when he'd run full sprints and not miss a note.

Well the guy isn't 28 anymore.... He tries to re-invent himself I guess... He's older and his image and the music has GROWN with him.   ;)

Other musicians just get older, while their art gets stuck in the past somewhere!   : ok:

The show I went to in 2006 and the shows I watched on video was pretty energetic, all things considered.

When Axl got asked if he tried to make the greatest album in history, he answered: "No. That's f---ing ridiculous and more negative media nonsense. We were all just trying to do our best for the fans and ourselves."  So I guess he's got his feet on the ground when it comes to the bands own material.

Would be wierd if Axl gave updates every night like: "Just finished vocals on a new track, it's off-the-hook-pandemonium-CRAZY!! Like Robert Plant trying to eat Freddy Mercury in a dark black alley!! While Rob Halford is cheering them on! You guys are gonna LOVE IT TO DEATH!!! Oh! And check out the new car I just bought! Isn't it rad?"

Just saying, GNR from 88-91 not only released 3 of the greatest albums of all time but were the greatest live show as well.

I respect the new band and all that, but u still have to give credit where credit is due.

Talking about how amazing that lineup was doesn't take away from the new lineup or in anyway says they suck or what not.
but there aren't 5 bands greater than GNR from 88-91 so its not a slap in the face to say the new band hasn't earned that level of respect from the public/media etc

Yeah, no doubt the albums were great and still are! I'm with you on that.

But to me, it's wierd when the guy on the videos is the guy watching the videos and making the comment on how great he was.....   :-\

And to me, it doesn't sit right when that guy hasn't been a part of that band since the mid 90's. And also considering he keeps ascociating himself with band which kept goin' without him after he couldn't get control of that band.

Wouldn't it be wierd if Steven Adler fronted a new Guitar Hero game with some GN'R-classics....

Why not move on and keep your integrity in tact?

Axl made a smart move by securing the band name.
But i think the others are just as entitled to associate themselves with Guns as Axl is.  Just because a legal document gives one person the rights to a name doesn't mean the others can't be proud of what they achieved in that band. Which was a lot!

well, you could see it as a kind of family.. the old line up is the parents to the old records and all, now one parent is seeing the old pictures of the family expressing that "we had some good times"

At least it looks like we're all pretty much agreed that it isnt a big deal that he praised the old band.  As i said, he was reffering to the old line up and he didn't mention the new line up.  And i also doubt that he sits at home watching old GNR footage all day, he probably just came across some and felt like praising it.

They should indeed be proud of the success of the albums they made together.

But in my opinion Slash takes it way beyond that. And in many cases it seems to be all in the interest of the mighty $$$.

Had it all been up to Slash, you can bet your ass TV-ads and movies would be filled with GNR-tunes!! And there would be more than one GN'R show on DVD on the market!

Oh yeah Slash is the only person that uses the GNR name for money............

How many tours did Axl do off the back catalog? he admitted himself he wouldn't have gotten the type of money without the GNR name. GNR songs are in movies etc. So yeah, Axl I give u has a little more integrity than Slash but lets don't act like Axl is allergic to money.

It would definitly be weird if Steven Adler was a character and face of a guitar hero game. Hes a drummer.

Some people talk about integrity and what it means to be rock n roll and all this stuff. The only thing that matters is doing what you want and what you enjoy and nothing else matters. Everyones entitled to their opinion but remember its the individual doing the stuff that knows wether they are having fun or not.

And Naltav you seriously dont want more shows on DVD? There are so many better ones unofficially out there its just annoying theyre not out

I never remember Slash comparing any of his solos to that of legendary guitarists. If he said something like awe man I just played a solo that would make Jimmy Page feel like a beginer, then I could see where your coming from, but I think its just part of his personality, not that hes cocky, just that hes excited.

I think the purpose of his twitter is to keep his friends/  diehard fans informed of his actions, not as press releases.

What I want and what Slash would do if he had control over GNR is prolly two different things.

But to answer your question. I guess I would... One from the appetite-era and one from the '01-'07 era. But I think I would prefer them on BluRay. Would be sweet to watch one of the Hammerstein-shows in HD with great sound!   :)

well said. Also yeah it would be wierd if axl posted in that way. But would it be wierd if a non-recluse ; sebastian bach for example; posted in that way? No! Axl and slash are different people, and say what you want about marketing ploys, to me he comes accross as a dude thats genuinely excited and proud of shit and wants to share it with his fans.

I got a buzz out of him saying he watched and enjoyed the guns footage, and if i was in his position i would have said the same to my fans.

get the impression that  he was in his basement watching the old music videos right now.

It would be nice to hear something....anything from axl though.  I'll bet he's got some nice cars.

I never remember Slash comparing any of his solos to that of legendary guitarists. If he said something like awe man I just played a solo that would make Jimmy Page feel like a beginer, then I could see where your coming from, but I think its just part of his personality, not that hes cocky, just that hes excited.

I think the purpose of his twitter is to keep his friends/  diehard fans informed of his actions, not as press releases.

There's no doubt about that! And they've got different id?as on how to promote themself.

If you like seeing your "heroes" in this and that promotional-sitiuation, I guess is just a matter of taste. And Slash's way to go is just not to my liking, simple as that. But if it floats your boat, cool!

With that said, hardly any or no promotion, is indeed aaaaah just a tad on the light side....   :-\  But like Axl would prolly say, it is what is! And depending on the next move from them, it could have its advantages. But that remains to be seen!   :)

Jeeze, the guy was probably flipping channels on the television and came across the GnR
biography on A&E and was impressed with what he saw.  And yet reading this thread one could
get the impression that  he was in his basement watching the old music videos right now.

It would be nice to hear something....anything from axl though.  I'll bet he's got some nice cars.
I hope he wasn't impressed by the A&E Bio.  While it had some decent information and footage, it was ultra lame they couldn't use any GNR music through the thing.

Well if you ask me it absolutely seems like Axl doesn't really care about keeping his fans informed. Of course I'm not saying that Axl should inform his fans about his really private business. No celeb owes their fans that. However, it wouldn't hurt Axl to let his fans know what he's up to musically once in a while.

I just accept people for their different personalities

For instance, I love Jon Bon Jovi and everything he does and he has a way of pulling it off without looking shitty but if Axl did it, it would just be different

same with this, I am fine with Slash doing what he does because it just fits who he is and his personality
if Axl started sending out 10 tweets a day, that would be great for us as fans, but I don't expect Axl to because that isnt what he does

Yeah I thought it was quite cool and out of character for Axl to do the online chats.  It almost became commonplace there, as he was it for like 3 nights in a row.  I'm sure if he became a staple on these boards the coolness of the whole thing would wear off pretty quick.  People would just start getting in verbal fights with him and stuff.

Has he ever took a cheap shot at Axl or anyone else through twitter?  Why is it ok for others to update their fans through twitter but not Slash.  I know he updates about some some stupid shit sometimes (at least to me), but I am sure there are plenty of people who dig the shit about his car or whatever.

When an everyday normal, non celebrity uses twitter, its fine for them to talk about their new cars and how excited they are. But I guess not Slash, hes not a human being, hes just a musical commodity to members of this board.

I think the whole thing is over the top.  Who cares if Slash had a bowel movement this morning...but who reaaaallly cares if average Joe did.  I hope twitter is just a 'fad' that people get over soon.

Yeah I don't think it's cool for the average Joe OR celebrities.  But the world we live in today wants up to the minute updates.  So some people are willing to deliver.  Bless them for it.  I do think most of the things Slash (and many others) posts are pointless.  But hell if they wanna let us know, I'll be glad to follow along.  Along the same lines, you can't blame some people for voicing their opinion that "who the f--k cares what kind of car you're buying?"  Some people are struggling to pay their bills, the last thing they want to read about is these types of things.

Problem is, Slash has used Twitter 99 percent of the time for music updates which are awesome

he may show a new car or a guitar but who cares?

Slash never Tweets "getting ready to take a shower" or any of that shit

I think music updates of Slash on his Twitter are pretty cool.. nevermind if they're positive/upbeat or not. As long as it's musical it's great. Hell I wish Izzy would give us more updates, the guy finished a new album two months ago and he hasn't mentioned anything to us at all since over a year.. He never even told anyone of the release of Concrete, the people had to find out themselves when they noticed the album popping up on iTunes.

New Update
Hey, what's happening? I had planned on posting this sooner, but the holiday came & I got sidetracked. Anyway, I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving regardless. The fundraiser at the Avalon was a complete success, the concert raised 170k for LA Youth Network & made it possible for them to keep open their doors. If you were there thank you so much for your support.  The gig itself was awesome, all the guests that appeared brought their A game, made a tremendous effort & really made it a special event. There were some fantastic moments up there that night for sure. I want to thank Ozzy, Perry Farrell, Billy Idol, Chester Bennington, Andrew Stockdale, Travis Barker, Dave Navarro, Steve Adler, Duff McKagan, Franky Perez, Chris Chaney & George Lopez for their selfless contributions. I want to thank the amazing crew who made the whole thing come off without a hitch & did it for little to nothing. And, everybody who donated generously to the cause. I also want to thank KLOS, The Huffington Post, the LA Times, the LA Weekly & Fox Sports News for their time & effort in helping to advertise & help make this a sellout Rock & Roll show, the likes of which could never be duplicated.

My solo record is about to go into mastering, it sounds really good already, but that's the final step in the recording process & then it is finished. There is a lot of really cool plans being made for the release of this album, its going to be a blast.

I have a new "Slash Model" Les Paul in the works, I just saw & played the 1st prototype, its killer. There is also a Marshall 100w amp being developed that I'm helping design that shouldn't be too far off as well. More news on both those items as it develops.

I'm also playing a few songs at the KLOS Christmas Party Dec 16th at the Nokia Theater along with Steve Lukather, Jason Bonham & a host of others which promises to be a good time I'm sure.

That's about it, talk to you soon. Iiii|; ),

Linda at Snakepit.org posted  that Slash was on the Song Cowgirl by Stephen Wesley.

Stephen Wesley's new album, The Road. SLASH played on the song "Cowgirl" with BC Jean doing the vocals. You can download the song or the entire album on Amazon. You can also purchase the CD on Best Buy. Stephen said, "Obviously having someone of his stature is an indescribable feeling....he was kind, thoughtful, and genuinely interested in making his ...song..to be the absolute best it could be."

I bought the single, cool solo.....

I bought it off Itunes....  There is a video of a stripper dancing to it on youtube.

Its a shame though if you ask me bands should make a charioy version of the song by simply having it without the singing.

I would sing SCOM without feeling real weird since the band that played the song sucks and sounds almost nothing like GNR
