Title: MGMT Post by: mrlee on May 25, 2009, 06:38:04 AM So who is a fan of this seriously tripped out band?
Id only heard the single, "Kids" originally. Didnt like it too much cause it was very new wave sounding to me, with the keyboards n stuff. However i discovered the album yesterday in the sun and found they have, a hell of alot more to offer. Basically they are like, weird 60s psychedelic pop meets those weird 80s bands. Really good debut album, i recommend it to anyone who wants to hear something different. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9GH-yvPHSY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8fSW4dfCzQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWPK52Si3iI Title: Re: MGMT Post by: CheapJon on May 25, 2009, 11:43:50 AM I think they are pretty damn cool, time to pretend is probably my favorite song

on their last LP I particulary enjoy Brian Eno : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M30WPeyEY40 Title: Re: MGMT Post by: mrlee on November 09, 2010, 06:03:40 PM I loved Oracular, played the shit out of it.
But the new album pissed me off so bad. It really was a mess in my opinion. Title: Re: MGMT Post by: Doc Emmett Brown on November 24, 2010, 01:54:24 AM I've been a tad obsessed with this band for the past few months. The best part is I can't believe I found a band my own age to get into.
Yes, the new album is different, but if you listen to the 2nd half of Oracular and then segue into Congrats, it fits...in a weird way it does. mrlee, if you prefer their earlier stuff, then check out their pre-major label album Climbing to New Lows. Title: Re: MGMT Post by: Doc Emmett Brown on November 24, 2010, 01:59:51 AM oh yeah, I got into other bands because of them.
Check out Tame Impala (psychedelic rock): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZSjk6yBObE&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZSjk6yBObE&feature=related) They opened for MGMT on some of their shows in the US. Think of them as being a rock take on the MGMT sound (on their debut album) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bculFLBoUGM They keep changing though, from the electronica space rock of their independent single "Supreme Being" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYykiq2bl3E to the new demos they posted http://www.myspace.com/amazingbaby/music/songs/29-Dreams-%28Demo%29-73798033 Title: Re: MGMT Post by: Doc Emmett Brown on November 24, 2010, 09:26:01 PM ^ I've heard of them (like i said, a tad obsessed with all things MGMT-related, even opening bands) ;D
I like Supreme Being. The new demo sounds great. here is MGMT 'Hot Love Drama': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQIDxnvuMeQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQIDxnvuMeQ) Someone described as Marvin Gaye on Ecstasy, sounds about right.
