Title: Recognize 'Guns N' Roses' within Chinese Democracy Post by: The Prez on February 14, 2009, 04:05:25 AM Now we all listened a lot to Chinese Democracy, we all got our opinion about it. This thread is not about which songs you like or not, or how good/bad the album is; but rather about:
In what way do you recognize the 'Guns N' Roses Style' within Chinese Democracy I created 3 categories; put the Chinese Democracy songs in the category that you think it sounds like according to your music feeling and taste. Era Appetite/Lies Style: Chinese Democracy Scraped Era Illusions Style: Street Of Dreams There Was A Time Catcher In The Rye IRS Madagascar New 'Chinese Democracy' Style: Shackler's Revenge (awesome record!!) Better If The World Sorry (oh my god, great track!) Riad N' The Bedouins This I Love (one of my favorites! what a song) Prostitute Could create some nice discussions I think : ok: :peace: Title: Re: Recognize 'Guns N' Roses' within Chinese Democracy Post by: duga on February 14, 2009, 06:44:39 AM Good thread.
Appetite style: None Lies style: None Illusions style: Street of Dreams Catcher This I Love New style: The rest Title: Re: Recognize 'Guns N' Roses' within Chinese Democracy Post by: estebanf on February 14, 2009, 09:16:00 AM I think IRS could be more related to AFD than to the Illusions.
UYI style: Street Of Dreams AFD style: IRS and that's it. All other songs aren't similar to anything GNR has done. That's why I love this band. Title: Re: Recognize 'Guns N' Roses' within Chinese Democracy Post by: ppbebe on February 14, 2009, 09:33:57 AM good topic : ok: I wanted to go on about the album more and more
but unfortunately can't add much. each song sounds mostly in the cd style to me. twat might have an 'estranged' moment. prostitute can be linked to rocket queen. Title: Re: Recognize 'Guns N' Roses' within Chinese Democracy Post by: gcluskey on February 14, 2009, 02:24:18 PM It all sounds new to me. Not like the old stuff at all. Still love it though. The only thing that reflects the old Guns is Axl's voice on some of the tracks, particularly on IRS, Better and parts of Sorry. I love when Axl sings in his raspy wail, he sings using a variety of styles on this album. Which is all good.

1. Chinese Democracy (bit of a stretch- as it definitely has a grunge feel too- but reminds me of the reckless abandon of "Nightrain" at times) *There are several classic guitar solos on this album that emote this era too. Brain's got more of a "groove" drumming style like Adler too IMHO. Use Your Illusion Era 1. Street of Dreams (reminds me of "November Rain"); 2. Catcher In The Rye (reminds me of "Yesterdays", and "Breakdown"- in other words- AMAZING!); 3. Sorry (Pink Floyd vibe- and reminds me of the wide variety of songs on UYI overall); 4. I.R.S. (reminds me of "Locomotive"); 5. This I Love (reminds me of legendary "November Rain" piano demo- in other words- GORGEOUS!); 6. Prostitute (reminds me of "Estranged" on steroids- in other words- IT FUCKING ROCKS!); Chinese Democracy Era 1. Shackler's Revenge; 2. Better*; 3. If The World; 4. There Was A Time; 5. Scraped*; 6. Riad N' The Bedoins*; and 7. Madagascar; *These 3 are the three tracks I always think of when I think about GN'R's "new direction". Great stuff. Title: Re: Recognize 'Guns N' Roses' within Chinese Democracy Post by: RickDunsford on February 14, 2009, 03:23:44 PM I've always thought THERE WAS A TIME had that Illusions feel to it.
