Title: Future Q&As with Axl (UPDATED)
Post by: SINSHINE on December 13, 2008, 11:52:34 PM
Not sure why this hasn't been done (or even suggested...perhaps it has been and I missed it), but to make life easier for those that have missed the chance at participating in the recent Fireside Chats with Uncle Axl as well as for Axl, himself, couldn't we create one thread were we could ask our questions and have Axl respond at his leisure, if and when he returns to this forum? Perhaps we can have some rules...such as

1.) PLEASE post no more than 2 questions per user (in order to give everyone a fair chance at having their questions answered).

2.) PLEASE keep questions short and to the point (we're all thankful for Axl's time, no need to include paragraphs of praise preceeding your questions...we love him and his band, he knows this...keep the pleasantries to a minimum)

3.) PLEASE don't ask a question that has already been addressed (ie: tour plans, when new material will surface, what is his favorite song off CD, etc.)

4.) PLEASE delete/change your question posted in this thread if it gets answered before Axl gets to YOUR questions (ie: I've changed my 're-recorded AFD' question as it was recently asked/answered by someone else)

Admin: If this is not possible (for whatever reason) and you decide to delete this post...could you please PM me with an explanation?

If we can get this off the ground...here's my $0.02.

1. I caught Dizzy's ear after a Hookers N' Blow show a few years back. When I told him I attended the 2002 show at Madison Square Garden he got very serious, put an arm around me and said that he personally felt that particular show was the best show GN'R had played since he'd been in the band. Does the 2002 MSG gig hold any significance for you?

2. Are you a fan of Independent films? Any favs? ALSO...(others are asking similar questions, so why not)...Being in a band that is known for over-the-top, grandiose and epic music videos, would you ever concider giving a bare-bones, one-man/big-fan video production company a stripped down/independent crack at one of your music videos...even just for a laugh?

Thanks, Axl!

Sincerely,
Sole Proprietor of Island Long Productions  : ok:

Let people ask their questions however they want and Axl will determine which ones he wants to answer. My $0.02.

If there are certain rules that should be followed it should come from a moderator.

Hi, this will sound totally ridiculous, however, I only live once and I'm prepared to take shit off everyone for it...

I recall reading about you guesting on Bach's album and I *think* you said something along the lines of how hardly anyone asks you to collaborate on their projects. (I could be totally wrong... my memories a little shit).

Here goes nothing... Would you be up for collaborating with my solo project if you're ever not busy?

My music is nothing like Guns. It's typically a sonic stream of consciousness. A way of channeling emotion through various sounds. The results are usually ambient soundscapes, but I do love writing short, snappy songs :)

without Guns, I couldn't even imagine ever creating music. So yeah...

Thanks for the years of music. A true inspiration.

(Yes everyone, I'm being totally fucking serious. Why the hell not?)

1)  Did Chinese Democracy turn out the way you thought it would turn out when you first started working on it and would you say that it's your ultimate musical achievement?

2)  Any reason you didn't thank us, the fans, in your 'thank yous' for Chinese Democracy?

3)  Thank you for delivering a great album to the Gn'R fans who have waited as long as we have waited, it's a remarkable album and it means a lot more to some of us than you'll ever really know.

P.S. please come back to Philadelphia.

1.  What are your plans for GNR in 2009 ?

2.  What do you think was the most difficult or one of the most difficult parts of releasing Chinese Democracy?

I have 2 pretty easy ones for Axl

1)When was the last time you were back to Lafayette, Indiana? I know the place may not hold much for you in terms of good memories or families anymore. but when you think about where you came from and what formed your perseptions on the world, how does Lafayette fit?

Also, Were you at Shannon Hoon's funeral/have you ever visited his grave in Dayton, in (just down the road from Lafayette). I have and its a moving experience given the lyrics on his tombstone.

2)Is it true you owned a house/lived in Lake Geneva Wisconsin, and why did you sell/move away?

i'm from the Champaign, IL area and have been to Lafayette many times, most recently for golf and dinner at Mountain Jacks, not far at all from where you grew up!

2. My dad says one of his track friends beat you up in school after you spat on him, is this true?

p.s. I've seen a pic of you singing in the school choir in the yearbook. I can get a copy of it if you want.

I've missed out three times on Axl's chats now, the first two times I missed by just minutes because I was defending Jarmo and Fernando at mygnr.com and got banned  I don't know where to post my question for Axl when he visits us next time, but if you're a mod and kind please help me with putting this question in the thread where he will hopefully see it. Thanks.

Hi AXL you fucking ROCK!! I've been a huge fan since I was 8 years old in '91 and I remember seeing some years later the Free Fallin' collabo you had with Tom Petty I'm guessin' arond '89 or was it '88? Anyway it was off the hook and I wanted to know what you remember from that day and how you experienced it? For me it's the coolest collabo you've ever done.

Also, I loved seeing you in '06 in Denmark and the second show in Oslo. Any particular memories from these two shows, and do you want to do them again?

Thanks a lot man, Peace!

Axl,

1 - Have you ever been to Brazil just for holidays? I mean as unknown. Maybe with Beta and the guys?  ;). If yes, Where exactly?

2 - Is there anything like a Making of Chinese Democracy type of thing, you would consider releasing it?

Hey Axl - first off thanks for hanging with us on the boards, very cool!

My question to ya is what song(s) on Chinese are you most looking forward to playing live? I bet If The World and Catcher would both be great in a live setting.

Take it easy.

Dear Captain A,

1.)

(Requires a little explanation)

A couple years ago Trent Reznor and some of the guys of NIN were posting pics on nin.com with several Axl/GN'R references.

If I remember right, one was with the NIN boys standing in front of a dressing room with a Chinese Democracy sign hanging over the door.  Another was NIN in the studio, and in a mirror you could see a glimpse of the top of your head wearing a blue bandana (ala 2002), and a third was a shot of the band playing live with Buckethead hidden in the crowd.

Wondering if you had any knowledge of this going on and/or do you have an opinion of what it might've meant?

2.)

How did you come into getting involved with your voice-over work as Tommy "The Nightmare" Smith on Grand Theft Auto San Andreas?  Was the experience enjoyable for you and did you play the game when it was finished?

Many thanks and much love!

Axl,

1 - Did any of the various leaks over the years delay the release of Chinese Democracy?

2 - What is a "Riad" and what what inspired you to write the song?

BTW Chinese Democracy is fucking amazing

2 - What is a "Riad" and what what inspired you to write the song?

A Riad is a traditional Moroccan house or palace with an interior garden. The word riad comes from the Arabian term for garden, "ryad".

Riyadh is also the capital of Saudi Arabia and I believe Riyad can also be a name.

Axl- many thanks for your time and congratulations on the masterpiece that is Chinese Democracy. My brief questions are:

1. What has it meant to you- both personally and professionally- to have Dizzy Reed along-side you during this entire journey?; and

2. What made you decide to jump up on stage with Gilby Clarke in 2000 and have you had the opportunity to talk with him since?

Thanks for everything you do and best wishes for 2009.

Axl, Chinese Democracy rocks!  it's my favorite gnr cd by far.   the NYE show at the House of Blues was one of my favorite shows of all time.  It was a great night and it influenced my singer and I to drop out of Berklee in Boston and move to LA to start a band.  Can you do me a favor?  Could we open up for GnR next time you play in LA?

also, which Karate Kid movie do you think is the best one?  I kinda like 2 the most.

peace

Hey Axl,

I'm from Brazil and I know that you hear it all the time, but I just want you to know how much you music made for me.Let me tell you a little history I'll not getting long...
When Guns N' Roses came down to Brazil in 1992 only to play Rio and S?o Paulo dates, I had to take a 12 hours by plane and go to S?o Paulo all by myself only to see my favorite band live!At that time I didn't know S?o Paulo and I would never had been in a big city like that and I was just 15 years old.
It was amazing and at the same time a very scary experience, but to me all worth to see Guns N' Roses.
So, a few years ago I spent for some kind of emotional problems, in a certain way it seemed that everything around me was disappearing, and I just keep losing...and everything got worse when I developed the panic syndrome. It was difficult, all my family have suffered so much for me and I spent two years locked in my roon for fear of going out...indeed that is what I mean, I started to react and fight back on the day that I knew that Guns would come for the Rock in Rio 2001.My determination on to be in that gig was so great that I just started a self-healing process.
That's why that show means so much to me, it represents my healing...my victory!

I want to thank you for everything you gave us over the years!
I love you  and I aways pray for you wishing your healt and peace. : ok:

1. Your vocal range is amazing, but it is also no secret that part of your amazing talent is your variety of singing "voices." e.g. the low/deep "It's So Easy/Shackler's" voice, the Brownstone/Chinese Democracy voice, the double talkin jive voice, the smooth-as-silk "Don't Cry" voice, the bluesy raspy/gravely voice "patience," the hard rock screaming voice "Welcome to the Jungle, etc., the scratchy/bluesy voice "Madagascar, the screechy/demonic howl, the high smooth soprano-type voice "end of Rocket Queen and Street of Dreams, the fast raspy scream "Perfect Crime, I.R.S., Garden of Eden, the soulful/easy-going voice "You ain't the first" etc and a ton more. Are you always cognizant of which "voice" you use in a song? In other words do you plan it out? Have you mentally or subconsciously always known that you use a variety of different voices? OR does the singing and voice you use just come naturally from the inspiration of the song?

2. My favorite singing voice of yours is the Double Talkin Jive voice. Do you have a favorite "voice" that you use? Least favorite? OR do you not consciously "categorize" your singing voices (what comes out, comes out)?

Hi Axl,

1- Got any new tattoos lately?
2- What do you think of fan GNR tattoos?
3- What will happen with footage Johnathan Rach filmed?
4- Do you got Thin Lizzy's "Black Rose" and the first Queen on vinyl? I hear they're rare. Let me know if you need 'em!

Thanks for amazing inspirational music over the years!

Hi Axl, Hi everybody!

My name's Chris from Luxemborg. First album I've ever bought was "Use your Illusion I" when I was 13. I discovered Rockmusic at that time. Today, I'm still a great fan  (saw you guys for the first time ever back in august 2002 at the Pukkelpop-Festival in Belgium. For me it was a dream come true. It was just.....magical.
But your performance Paris 2006 was even better.  (thanks to Izzy  ;)

New Album rocks!! You need to take your time and listen to it several times.....now I love it!
Favorite song of mine: Prostitute, Street of Dreams, Rhiad and the Bedouins, Better.
Favorite Moment: during the guitar solo in "This I love" when the drums come in!  I love that!

My Question:
How do you work on writing the lyrics? Did they come to you when you hear the music or do you take your time and try to get something that fits perfectly in?

When you could pick 3 Albums (your favorites) to take with you on a trip outer space, which ones would they be?  :)
(maybe to show other civilisations what we understand under the word "music")   ;)

Thanks for the answers
and my God bless you and your friends!

And merry Christmas!

Best regards
Chris Arend

How's it goin' Axl

Very cool of you to touch base with all of the fans like this, it was certainly a surprise. I'd just like to tell you that you've been a huge inspiration to me, through both your actions as a person and as an artist, and you have my utmost respect. It's been a big part of my life, through thick and thin. Thanks again for hanging with us, it's really great to have the opportunity to talk to you like this.

I suppose if I had to ask a question, it would be this:

You mentioned that you had re-recorded the Appetite material with the new lineup at some point. Will we ever get hear it, or are there any plans for some kind of a release?

Oh, and do you have a favorite AC/DC album?

Thank you once again, and I'm really looking forward to the future of GN'R. I'll catch you on tour  Congrats on the release of Chinese Democracy, it's an incredible piece of work, and I'd gladly wait it out all over again.

Happy holidays!
-Steve

hi Axl, congratulations on the release of Chinese Demcracy.  All the best with the future, it seems such small words for someone who changed my life completely.  Your lyrics and melodies are truly awesome and inspire me to write, perform and record - something I lost for many years.  You have no idea how much that means to me.  Thank you.

I saw your concert in Perth, your show rocked - I've never been so in awe and excited. Please come back.  I apologise profusely for the bad venue.  Burswood Dome has particularly bad acoustics.

1) Did you go and see Bon Scott's grave when you came to Perth (are you a fan?)?

2) Who inspires you to do the best you can?

Best of luck to Guns N' Roses, thank you for this opportunity and please visit again.

Luke

My favourite song is "Don't Damn Me". Never a song spoke to me as this one before. It eventually turned out to be some sort of hymn of my life.

In my personal experience, as people in general can't handle the truth, those who speak up their minds at all times end up, in some way or another, making their friends go away.

So, although I don't itend to change a damn thing about myself, my question is:

At the end of the day, is it worth it to always speak up our minds and tell the truth?

I'm sorry.. I didn't want to turn this into a Dr. Phil Q&A  :hihi:

Yo Axl

1) what happened to that "perfect crime movie" you were shooting on illusions tour?

2) in 2002 you said we'll get 18 songs and 10 extra tracks, don't get me wrong i'm very fuckin' happy with these 14 songs on CD, but i'm just curious what happened to that plan? :)

Title: Re: Future Q&As with Axl
Post by: COG on December 14, 2008, 06:48:18 AM
hi axl, here are the questions:

1) there's a good difference between your voice in 2001 and  in 2006. my question is: was the time to let the voice return, the exercise, or both of these two? and was the remoteness from scenes (and, accordingly, from the concerts etc etc) between 90's and 2001 the reason the voice has had a change or what else?

2) do you think the reason bucket left the band was he prefers to be just buckethead than buckethead, gnr guitarist? or, saying it better, he prefers to be not a member but the guy of a band where the others components play with him but specially 'for' him (i say that without having listened his last work like band, i can't find it) ?

anyway, i hope there's a possibility BH returns, he's fantastic.

ps: i'm from italy and in 2006 i couldn't come to gods of metal. i'll do all in my possibility the next time to come to see the guns, hoping you will return in italy on the next tour.

thanks and don't you try to stop you now  :peace:
Marco

Hey Dude, here comes a few (too many I guess)

figuring most other questions is about GNR/CD/future/past and Disney.. so although I have several questions on CD and the future here comes something different and maybe my more GNR-oriented questions will bet asked by someone else and answered elsewhere.. anyway here it goes

Are you still a fan of hip-hop/rap? Do you have any favorites?

Can you see yourself doing or are you interested in some sort of collaboration with Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Eminem, Kanye, Nas or some other?

I love tattoos, could you tell us some about your tattoos? Specific meanings, who?ve done them, what they are? And just other shit you know like your latest, your first, your favorite etc. anything, like I?ve seen something on your lower leg, and some skullthingie or something on your wrist, spill it  :).. I guess you think it's cool with fans getting GNR tattoos since you got black rose? ;)

Backyard Babies is one of my favorite bands, seeing you thanking Nicke and Dregen were cool because i know they fucking love you man  Dizzy played on their last record, have you heard it? I read somewhere they know del so you gotta ask him to help asking them if GNR can open for them  :hihi: other way around works too  ;) Do you see any chance of you maybe guesting on a ByB record or Nicke guesting on a future release from GNR? that would be tits!

Zakk Wylde is one of my favorite guitarists of all time, how was it jamming with Zakk, are there any recordings/rehearsal tapes? What did it sound like?

What's the top5 best records of 2008 in your opinion? and top5 alltime? :)

thanks for staying true, never selling out, writing the soundtrack of my life and always fucking be there when i've needed you, you've helped me through some shit and is a great inspiration, ok i'll stop b4 i get too stalker/brokeback mountainish :P

sorry, don't think i'm a bigger fan or more important then anyone else I just got carried away, it's not everyday you have this chance or maybe it is now :smoking:

and to stay completely political correct, merry fucking christmas and have a great new year, we wish you nothing but the best

Much love from Sweden / Jon

Good question. Thought ofthat one myself, but figured it would be too personal so I left it alone. But seeing as Axl has been beyond cool with answering questions that are sort of personal already, you never know 8)

My 2 Questions:

1. How do you feel about people who cant get over the past and think GnR today is simply the 'Axl show' and that Guns ended in the mid 90's? (just like to add that Im not one of those people and seriously think GnR are as good today as they have ever been).

2. In 1993 you played Eastern Creek in Sydney Australia. On the same bill were Pearls and Swine, Rose Tattoo and Skid Row...and obviously Guns N Roses...It was one of the greatest concert experiences of my life...I am wondering what has been some of the greatest concerts you have ever attended through out your life?

Thanx man...Keep rockin' and Ill keep listenin'.

I believe that many intelligent questions about the new album will be asked, then I will ask two very simple questions:

2 - What would you like the fans to ask you?

There's a quote I heard somewhere that goes like "Catharsis? My arse is capable of more flush"  With that in mind, have songs like Estranged, Coma, Locomotive, This I Love (or any song for that matter) helped put to rest the demons that you felt at the time?  In short, do you find your songwriting to be cathartic? Personally, just listening to these songs has helped me through so much.

Hey Axl, will there be a music video, or a short film about Madagascar?, because that song deserves to have a visual aspect to portray its political and artistic themes.

Mr. Rose, thank you for everything. Your epic ballad November Rain was the main inspiration for me to become a musician. I've now been playing keyboard and piano since 1993.

So on that end, a former colleague [tracii guns, not to namedrop] has insisted that you had been playing November Rain since at least 1983, with that name picked out and everything, and said that it was "the only thing you knew how to play". When did you initially come up with the song, and what was the original inspiration?

Hi,
all the ex-members (Slash, Duff, Izzy, Matt, Gilby,...) say that you're an amazing frontman, singer, perfomer and songwritter and they all said they loved Chinese Democracy. What they all seem to complain was the way you treated the band and it's members:
- getting late to shows, spending lot's of money, not hanging out with the band, not showing up to rehearsalls, bringing new musicians they didn't knew or liked, forcing them to play what you wanted,...

Now, 10 years after, do you feel that you could have done things different, do you at least understand their point of view? Why couldn't you all just get along and everyone take their own responsability to make the band work, did you tried to do your part on it?

Also, on the "Making Fucking Videos Part IV - Estranged" we can clearly hear an acoustic solo with you whistling, a track that latter became "Back and Forth Again" from the 1st Snakepit (we can also year a piano solo that sounds a little like This I Love); what other Snakepit songs did you rejected and why?

Regards from Rui, Portugal

What you think about buckethead solo work and  the albums Eletric Tears and Colma ?!

The first time you heard the The was a time outro how do you felt ?!

What you think about the haters on the boards that hated BucketHead and now asking him to come back ?!

Lets talk about Riady why did you changed the Fink/bucket solo  to the Bumble s ?!

Scraped it is about Bi polar troughts and feelings the ups and downs ?!

All of the new songs what is the one you are looking more for do it live ?!

Any coment about the Rock in Rio 3 ?! How you felt the puplic...Beta speak etc..

On the 02 tour  your voice it was not the same , i mean the raspy it was not there at all, what was going on with your voice back them ?! it was an another way to aproach the songs...i mean on the 06 tour your voice was much more stronger !

Rock in Rio 3 i had  a blast, great show great memories take care.

Hey Axl,

1. Which member of the new band, do you seem to click with songwriting wise, the best? I was kinda suprised to see Robin w/ only 1 credit(Better). And a 2nd part to this question, was there any thoughts of bringing Izzy in as a songwriter and would that be open for the future for you two to work together, even if its not under the GNR name.

2. Can you set me up on a date with jamie-Lynn Sigler from the Sopranos?

What was your reaction to the critical response to Chinese Democracy?

Was there ever a thought to change the name of the album?

What happened to your role in the film Highlander III, directed by old Guns video director Andy Morahan?

Axl, congratulations on the release of Chinese Democracy, my two questions are as follows....

1.Do you ever see Guns N Roses performing "Coma" live again? It's an 11 minute long track and I'm sure you want to play as much new material as possible, but when speaking amongst people who appreciate great music, if they are not a gnr fan, it's always the song I reccomend to someone from the old material. It's a masterpiece.

2.Since all of us fans have been so good over the years and never talk down on you, never whine, never ever complain, never post leaks or even ask for leaks.. :hihi: do you think you could be nice enough to perform one new track live that isn't on Chinese Democracy or a re-worked version of Silkworms/Oh my God on the next tour.

Thanks for all the great music over the years Axl, you and EVERY member of Guns N Roses over the years have touched a lot of people's souls, you even owned mine while I was in New York for the Hammerstein shows...

                                                                     Best of luck in 2009...
                                                                                          -Justin :peace:

What in the hell happened in Philly '02? We've never heard a real answer from any side, beside the crap piece Blender wrote. I was at that gig, and have always wondered what was really going on.

And thanks for the great, kick-ass performances in NYC and Huntington '06! West Virginia didn't know what hit'em   8)

I think as fans we expect Axl to be in control or have oversight of everything GNR.  I did like to know what he has control over and where others in the business take over.

If he wants to give us names and e-mail address of the others responsible......  lol, just kidding.  I just want us to stop blaming him for shit he has no control over.

1. Do you have any plan to tour country like Singapore or Indonesia?
2. The intro for November Rain at HOB 2001, it's amazing! Is that piano piece a part or parts of a new unheard song that you will put out on the next album??

Thanks for Chinese. The album is great.

1. In the booklet you thank Dregen and Nicke Borg. Im from sweden so Im curios how your relationship to those guys are. Do you hang out?

2. Do you have anything to tell us that we dont know about the incident with the security guard at the hotel after the show in sweden 2006. Pretty much all we have heard has came from the newspapers and we know how trustworthy those guys are. If you dont want to talk about that thing maybe you could tell us any other cooll stuff that happend at the party or the gig in sweden.

Rock on Axl and thanks for answering questions from the fans. Thats really cool of you!

Hey Axl, just want to say thanks for the music, GNR's helped me through countless tough times and accompanied me through the good as well, so thanks a lot. Awesome show in Manchester 06 btw, it was amazing!

1) You mentioned the struggle you had getting CD released and all the shit you had to wade through. Does the fact that CD has now been released make it easier for followup albums to be released or will it always be the same fight to get your music out?

2) A lot was made of the setlist in 06 and how it was Appetite heavy as opposed to including more Illusions material. Was there a specific reason for this or was it just a personal preference from you and the band?

I've tried this in another thread, but in case this is the one that takes:

1. What's the significance of 'Cool Hand Luke' to you, and is it's use in Madagascar a deliberate call back to Civil War?

2. A lot of people are resistant to listen to the new album and close themselves off by saying 'that's not the real Guns N' Roses' - how do you think a fan should respond to that kind of thing?

Title: Re: Future Q&As with Axl (UPDATED)

1) Gn'R never had much b-sides in the past. there were some live versions like "live and let die" or "kohd", the "you're crazy" acoustic alternate take, "whole lotta rosie" cover, and shadow of your love. will this time be diferent, like will we get bonus stuff on cd-singles or special itunes downloads? you must have so many alt. versions, like the new OMG you mentioned, it'll be cool to listen to them.

2) what was the original idea for the estranged video? (the real part 3 of the trilogy)

3) will you play all CD's songs on the next tour? (i hope so!) and do u plan to start playing some stuff from the new record before it's released?

4) ok, now this one is kinda stupid to ask, since i believe you're not interested in this scenario at all, but in case of a reunion will you rather have steven or matt?

lol it made me laugh when somebody asked him what will be the next song in the trilogy after This I Love - how many songs can there be in a trilogy? :hihi:
Axl answered the question in a cool manner though and actually got me excited about that acoustic piece.

To answer your question: November Rain and Estranged are considered to be the first two songs in the trilogy and This I Love (way before anyone knew if it actually existed, let alone heard it) was always considered to be the third piece. I don't know where (if) Axl talked about this, but I guess it had to do with the epicness of the songs and the grandiose videos.

Hopefully Axl can elaborate on this.

Were any of the leaks put out by the record label as an to blackmail you in some way, perhaps into releasing the album?                                                                                                        I love the new album, especially Better and Scraped(of which I can't help but notice the similarity to Oh My God: perhaps written together?).  What musical direction will the next album(s) take? I hope we can expect to hear more in the vein of the aforementioned songs. Thanks for taking the time to do this, and for all the great music over the years.

i had a few questions in the other thread, but it looks like they have been answered in a way already, so i'll keep this brief:

1. Was Tommy's hand injury the real reason for the cancellation of the tour in South Africa..?...or were there other management/promoter issues..?

2. You said the "biography" material was too depressing to go back to and finish off....why not get Del James to sort it out...?

I know there are no plans for the tour as yet...but do add us down here as a stopover at least....i need my CD signed...

2) Nice simple question here, Which frontmen/songwriters have had the biggest influence on you past and present in both live & recording environments?

Thanks!

Artists and political activism. What's your take on it?

Do you/would you like to lean more towards the "entertainers should just entertain" philosophy or the other extreme? Obviously you carry at least some interest to these issues which by now should worry each and every one. Can you see yourself/GNR using your influence in fans and taking a stand on some issues?

Also, have you made any drastic changes to your wealth management and/or other things the current and expected future economic situation affects? Have you any thoughts to share regarding the current economic events in general?

P.S.   Thanks for making absolutely great music. I have no idea how it can match my taste so perfectly. And big thanks also for setting an example on personal integrity!

Axl,

You have a few members (Tommy, Brain and Fortus) in Guns who have worked with a musician I respect immensly Mr. Brian Transeau (aka BT). I immediately thought of BT when you mentioned you are more into score music these days, and I know that's something BT has been working on and towards for quite a few years now (Catch and Release, Stealth, Fast and the Furious, Monster, Go). So....

1. Have you heard his music, and if so have you listened to The Binary Universe? Any thoughts on that album? If you haven't, I recommend it highly. As well as Movement in Still Life!!!
2. Any plans on working with BT in the future, and/or having him remix one of your songs (I "kind of" heard that there was already some talk of this among the Guns camp, i.e., remixing a song for you)?
3. I would be really interested in hearing some of your instrumental work (especially the song you did for End of Days), any chance on seeing instrumentals on upcoming albums?

I have a lot of interest in scores and intrumental works. I could go on asking you many questions, including any plans to score a film?

Thanks,
Aaron.

are you into classical music at all? The outro on Prostitute has a feel that reminds me very much of Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto, 2nd Movement, both very beautiful pieces.

also, i love If The World, think it's one of the highlights on the cd; is music with these influences a sign of one of the future progressions of GnR's music?

Axl, you mentioned your family several times.  Do you have any kids?

Personally, I held out for you to be my baby daddy as long as I could, but when my biological clock was on the brink of running out and you were busy with other projects, I went ahead and married an electrician.  So now I have 2 little "Bob the Builders" in my world, who are crazy about you,  just like their Mama.

Hey Axl,

Just a couple questions:

1. It has been rumored for years that there were lots of songs recorded between 1994-1997 with the old band. How much material was actually recorded and what are the chances of ever having this stuff released in a box set or something along those lines?

2. I was in Vancouver in 2002 and even though the show didn't happen still had a great time, after the riot we went to a bar and they had a house band playing Guns songs. Then jumped on a bus the next morning to see you in Tacoma even though we had no idea if the show was going to happen. Great times. Just thought you'd like to hear one fan's experience of the event on the ground. Anyway, are lawsuits from this still going on or can you shed some light on what happened? Will you ever come back to Vancouver?

Thanks for everything. It means more to me than I know you'll believe

I have always wondered about one funny little thing: Do you till have your old stageclothes left, like the leatherkilts, white shorts and everything? Is it just lying in a cloest collecting dust?

And why is Nicke Borg and Dregen of Backyard Babies thanked in the booklet? Nicke says that he's not sure why, but that it is a fantastic album!

My two questions for Axl;

1- the 1999 mtv interview you did mentioned about a possible future album with a 'aggressive electronica with guitars' sound. are we likely to see something like this in the future that pushes the GNR sound so much further?

2- on the eddie trunk interview previously you mentioned you visited mainland China? just wondering what your motivation was to go, and/or whats your interest in China? i enjoy the culture, martial arts history and cinema of China.

Hi Axl  :)
I?ll get straight to the point: I have no idea if u care about astrology at all, but knowing you?re an Aquarius (I happen to be one as well, February 8th), do u relate to the general personality characteristics and traits of Aquas?
Being fascinated with astrology, and even though I?m in no way familiar with your true essence, I do relate a lot to many of your attitudes and actions over the years and I somehow get the sense u?re very much a genuine Aqua..and proud to be one!  ;D
Thanks!

i posted this in another thread but i don't know what happened to it so i'll just ask my two again:

i'd like to know first of all if we can hear a song like Coma ever again? Coma is one of my favorite songs ever and i even got a bunch of my friends to like it as much as me which is kind of cool to me because they usually listen to rap and rap only.

Second, is there a "lost industrial Album " out there and if so will we ever see it?

thank you for your time,
Ethan

Hi Axl i'm from Venezuela , the 92 concert you guys did here was amazing. i was only 15, my first concert ever, the best experience, would you consider coming again? this year came a lot of big bands including NIN, next year comes Aerosmith on february, you have a lot of fans here, so please If/When you tour consider coming please.

Other question, i like a lot tommy's bass playing, but it's really low in the mix, you can hear it the best on I.R.S, The Blues, Catcher...Can you tell us why so low in the mix?

PS:I'm in love/obsessed/can't stop listening to the new album all the time. Love ya man.

Hey, Axl..... I have two questions. I basically didn't know what to ask, but after thinking about some questions that haven't been asked..... Here goes nothing.....

Question #1: Will you ever go back on the Eddie Trunk show? The appearence you did in May of 2006 was probably the most entertaining/funniest 3 and a half hours and some of the most fun i've ever had listening to an interview and had me in stiches while listening to it. I would LOVE to hear you on there again!!!

Question #2: Would you ever consider doing a cover of "Dust In The Wind" and putting it on an album? I really loved watching/listening to your cover of it on youtube from past shows and thought it would make a good album cut. The lyrics are really great in that. To me anyway. :)

Anyway, Thanks for taking the time to read this. Answer them if you want.

Hope to see you back in New York soon!!! :)

1.  Caram Costanzo obviously played a big role in the creation of the album, serving as co-producer and helping write a few songs.  Can you give a little background on how he became involved and his role in the project?

2.  Obviously there was a great deal of external pressure to release this album from the label and the general public.  You also faced a lot of scrutiny due to the time and money attached to the project, as well as having a new lineup of musicians in place.  Because of that, there were a lot of people who had negative preconceptions about the album and were not going to give it a fair chance.  Now that Chinese has been released, do you feel a sense of relief?  As in, the monkey is off your back, and as time passes the tabloid garbage won't be so prominent and people will judge the music on Chinese and future releases more fairly and be more open-minded about it?

Axl,

What is your creative process like? Do you sit down with intent to write, do you wait until some sort of inspiration to strike and then go get it down? Are you always writing, or do you take a lot of time away from it for yourself. I'm just curious as to how your songs take shape, if you begin with words and for them to a melody later, or if you write something on the piano first.

Are some of your songs emotionally taxing to write or perform?

One last one, lest I be too greedy. What do you like to do away from Guns? I know you've been at some sporting events over the years. Are you a big sports fan? If so, which ones, and do you have any teams/players that you follow on a consistent basis.

Thanks!

Hey Axl

Just one question,

I think everyone was kind of surprised by the fact that Richard was only involved on the recording of 5 songs and not one songwriting credit.

Can we expect more of his involvement in a new cd? i for one love his guitar tone and skills, so i't would be interesting to see it more in the future.

thanks for the time :)

Hi Axl,

Q1.  I know that you are a big fan of the Trailer Park Boys show.  Have you gotten anyone hooked on that show?

Q2.  What were your thoughts on the canadian shows during the '06 tour?  I attended the Winnipeg show and it was fabulous.

1. Axl, what'd you think of the new Trailer Park Boys special, "Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys"? I saw you on Youtube along with Bubs and you looked like you were having such a good time singing Liquor & Whores! If you are a big fan (which just might make you an honorary Canadian), what are your thoughts on your favorite characters or scenes and Baz buying joints with "dirty old bees!" stuck to them? If you ever ride the Swayzie Express back to Bubbles' shed, pet Vince the Pince for me!

2. I'm from Saskatchewan, Canada and was shocked to see GNR came here during the UYI tours and played in Saskatoon. Any memories of the show? I'm surprised you guys never passed up this province back then because most high profile talent always skips over us. When you tour again, come to Regina, please!

Thank you!

First question: All lies hurt, but which one of all the lies that were written on the press trough all these years hurt the most, or the one you think caused a lot of  damage to the gunner community?.
I personally hated Rolling Stone article about Axl Rose: the lost years. (May 11, 2000)  >:(.  http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/gunsnroses/articles/story/5925215/axl_rose_the_lost_years (http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/gunsnroses/articles/story/5925215/axl_rose_the_lost_years) .

Second question:  Did you really forget those ?patience? lines?  :hihi:

PS: Thanks for all these years. Buenos Aires miss you a lot!....we really hope you can make it to South America Next tour! We're hungry!!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

2. Was there any specific reason you chose to play a smaller venue (hammersmith) before Guns played Donnington back in 06?

But from any of us that have ever had a really shitty period in our lives, trust us. Seeing you up on stage, or hearing you chat here. Man that's the inspiration you should be most proud of.

I know that wasn't really a question, but thank you.

Number two.

Can you please tell everyone once and for all that I don't have a copy of checkmate? Please? PLEASE!?!?!

1.  I saw GN'R at the Portland Rose Garden in December of 2006.  I was front row against the barrier, and found the concert as a whole to be one of the most amazing moments of my life.  One oddity, though, that I wanted to ask about.  You guys came out for the encore and played Madagascar, but then left the stage without the usual Paradise City finale.  As I understand it, this is one of the very few times GN'R have played a concert without playing Paradise City.  Do you happen to remember the reason behind that particular omission?  (Of course, I'm more than happy to come see you on the next tour to catch PC in its entirety.)   : ok:

2.  I'm originally from southern Indiana, and take it as a point of pride that we're from the same home state.  Over the years, I've gotten the impression from quotes and interviews that you're not terribly fond of Indiana, and I was just wondering what your thoughts were about the state.  Do you get back often?  Do you tend to stay away?  As a fellow Hoosier rock legend, what do you think of Mellencamp?

Thanks for everything, Axl.

Hey...Ive got another question (I know the limit is 2, but Ive waited for four pages since my last two...

So...Anyway:

1. Are the music videos that appear on Welcome To The Video's ALL of the music videos that Guns N Roses have ever made (pre Chinese anyway), and if not do you know if there are any plans to release a difinitive collection?

2. I have a video tape (somewhere) of a Gunners show in the Roxy from around 1986 that was recorded on someone's home video camera...It was really awsome to see that show and then watch the Live In Tokyo concert and then other 'bootlegs' to see how much both you and the band developed over the years and changed your shows as the venues got bigger...Would you be happy if one or two of your early shows were officially released, or would they be something you would rather keep away from the public for whatever reason?

Also...Thanx for all the music you have given to the world. Its the soundtrack to my life.

I havent read all the Q's so hopefully I'm not blowing my 2:

1) The first night at the Hammerstein in '06. There was a sense in the crowd that nobody knew what to expect after 3 and a half years of (mostly) silence. After "Jungle" finished though, the crowd was going fucking crazy. I was about 3 rows away from you and noticed as you looked around the crowd, you got a big grin on your face. I kind of took it as you were relieved as if you didnt know what the response would be from the crowd. If I am totally off on that, what was going through your mind at that time. It was one of my most memorable moments of all 4 nights and have been wondering.

and

2) From that same night, you made Tommy come back and repeat into the microphone "I'm having a really good fucking time" to which you stated "You have no idea what that means" .............So, what did that mean to you? I was a fan of the Replacements long before I ever heard of GnR so when I heard Tommy was onboard I knew we were in for something special. If I can slip in a 3rd, are we going to get to hear Tommy sing any tracks on future records?

Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. :peace:

Here's my two:

1. Since you've been talking about a lot of things you haven't in the past, does this imply that all of, or the majority of, the legal issues/disputes between you and your old band mates are over?

2. What do you want for Christmas (just curious, I am not actually planning on getting you anything, the economy is kinda rough right now  :hihi: )

3. bonus - whats your favorite type of cigar?

and just want to say thanks for all of the amazing music you've given us over the years.  Some GNR songs have gotten me through some of the toughest times of my life - seriously, thank you.

But I've got em now...

1. Will you ever, EVER play Cornshucker again (please ffs do...that shit was funny....as hell...and my wife hates it...so ....PLEASE DO....)

2. The Asshole song (you are an asshole and everyone knows it).  We want a full version on the next tour. I wanna hear the full song, recorded live, so I can sing that shit past the second line....

1.)  Will you be touring the states first/overseas or vice versa in 2009?  Do you plan on playing shows in different places this time, such as Kentucky or Indiana?
2.)  Will you try and get Buckethead and Brain back in the band and have them help you record the next album?  Besides Jackie Chan and the Elvis Presley song you've mentioned, will these or others be on the next album?  Will you hope to have the next album out in the next couple of years?

IF Axl comes back I'll post this just in case. Gotta be in it to win it. He has pretty much answered everything else I wanna know.

1) I always wondered. Slash says in his book (plus in the media at the time) he turned up at your house a few years back. Someone answered and said you weren't there. Just wondered if a meeting did actually occur? OR you were there and decided to not speak to him? OR you genuinely weren't home?
Just in an old press release for reference:

"In October of 2005, Slash made an unannounced 5:30 AM visit to Axl Rose's house. Not appearing to be under the influence, Slash came to inform Axl (about his new band Velvet Revolver) that: 'Duff was spineless,' 'Scott Weiland was a fraud,' that he 'hates Matt Sorum' and that in this ongoing war, contest or whatever anyone wants to call it that Slash has waged against Axl for the better part of 20 years, that Axl has proven himself 'the stronger.' Based on his conduct in showing up at Rose's home, Axl was hopeful that Slash would live up to his pronouncements that he wanted to end the war and move on with life. Unfortunately that did not prove to be the case."[

Hey Axl,
I've been a die hard supporter since I first heard Jungle while in 5th grade.  It is so great that you are reaching out to your fans in the manner you have been.  It is greatly appreciated.  Below are the two questions I would love to have answered:

1) Over the last few years, Trent Reznor has been making many GN'R references on NIN.com (hard to say if they were in a negative light or not).  As I remember, you were a fan (even having them open for you in '91 and donning the "Sin" shirt during many shows in '91) and spoke very positively of Nine Inch Nails several times.  My question is do you have any sort of relationship with Trent and what are your thoughts on his music?  I dream of a collaboration between the two of you (the thought of you singing "Hurt" or NIN doing "Estranged" is amazing to me).  I would love to hear your thoughts on my second favorite all time band.

2) What are your thoughts on Howard Stern?  I recall you being on the show back in 1990 with Sebastian and would love to see you back on the show.

As a drummer, here's a couple questions regarding the drums on Chinese Democracy:

1) On the songs where the drums are by both Brain and Frank (Better, TWAT, etc), who plays what and how can (those of us that care about stuff like this) tell the difference?

2) Do demos exist, of the songs that made it onto Chinese Democracy, with Josh Freese on drums and if so, which songs?

Thanks Axl! Chinese Democracy is great and was worth the wait!

2.  During the '06 tour we saw you out and about quite a bit, with papparazzi shots of you all over town, especially in my neck of the woods of NYC (you should definitely get a place here!).  Before that and since then you've managed to stay out of the spotlight.  Are you mostly a homebody or do you have secrets to avoid the cameras?

Hi Axl,

Thank you kindly for taking time out of your life to answer questions and talk to your fans. You really are sincere and thoughtful and graceful

and I am probably not the only one to think that you definitely do not have to do any of this or do any interviews so this is extremely

generous of you.

"Chinese Democracy" is a Magnum opus. Thank you for being generous and sharing your creative genius with the world and with history,

as it will surely be regarded as one of the best works ever.  ;D

If I am fortunate enough to have a question answered here is my submission (two questions) and thank you in advance.

I totally understand if you cannot answer mine -- I am happy just to read your other responses, so thank you.

1. Would you ever be interested in acting (whether it be stage or screen)? Even if you aren't contemplating it now -- would

you consider it?

I think you have a natural gift as you are one of the most engaging and charismatic frontmen in the history of music.  ;D

This rare talent of yours often translates very well to acting -- as witnessed by some of the best performances ever on

screen -- the following singers all won Oscars for their acting performances:  I could easily see your name on this list some day.

Bing Crosby, Going My Way (1944);
Frank Sinatra, From Here to Eternity (1953);
Rita Moreno, West Side Story (1961);
Barbra Streisand, Funny Girl (1968);
Liza Minnelli, Cabaret (1972);
Cher, Moonstruck (1987);
Jamie Foxx, Ray (2005);
Jennifer Hudson, Dreamgirls (2006).

The following singers were nominated for Oscars for their acting performances:

Judy Garland, A Star Is Born (1955);
Judy Garland, Judgment at Nuremberg (1962);
Liza Minnelli, The Sterile Cuckoo (1970);
Diana Ross, Lady Sings the Blues (1973);
Barbra Streisand, The Way We Were (1974)
Bette Midler, The Rose (1980)
Bette Midler, For the Boys (1992)
Will Smith, Ali (2002);
Queen Latifah, Chicago (2003);
Jamie Foxx, Collateral (2004);
Will Smith, The Pursuit of Happyness (2007);

2. It must be torturous living in the "fishbowl" of celebrity -- where there are hangers-on that want a piece of your success, yes-men/women

who think agreeing with everything you say is a way into your inner circle, supposed "critics" that think they know about

music but haven't the first clue, supposed "reporters" who write lies about you and invade your privacy, and

everyone else (whether it be supposed "fans", so called "friends", former bandmates, supposed book "authors" -- all trying to

rip you down because of their envy of your talent and success).

This is most recently evidenced by how your kindness in posting to these various message boards has been twisted by the media and even

by some so called "fans". It seems there is always someone that wants to vilify, libel and slander you -- and in the utmost irony -- you in

no way had to do this for anyone, it was a sincere act of generosity and kindness (but yet some "fans" and so called "journalists" jump

at the chance to use this as an opportunity to twist your words, libel and slander you and take more shots at you -- as if they were

waiting in the wings to pounce with glee).

I guess no good deed goes unpunished! Which really makes those of us who have always supported you angry and disgusted.

You seem to deal with this with utter class, rising above all the garbage -- how do you do this? I am a very sensitive person

and also in the arts (I'm a student) and growing up it has always been difficult for me to not let it get to me...and it is easy to hurt my feelings.

Are you naturally gifted with your eloquence and grace at not letting this rubbish get to you

or do you have a philosophy or method you employ?  ;D

Thank you again for your time and thoughtfulness and generosity. I admire all of your art and would be happy to see any

creation of yours. Being alive to witness your art is like living in the time of the great Renaissance artists,

like Raphael or Michelangelo.  :peace:

Yours truly,
dreamer girl

First I would like to thank Axl for taking the time out to talk to us....

I think alot of you guys have done a great job asking questions about the new record and upcoming plans etc...so I'm going to go with a couple wildcard questions so to speak...stuff I always wanted to ask...

1.  Do you have any thoughts or opinions on the Kurt Cobain feud from back in 1992?  Do you sum it up as just another "rock n roll feud" or do you have stronger feelings about it?  I know its been a long time but it seems that the whole Nirvana vs. GNR thing still comes up from time to time so I would love to hear any feelings you may have on the subject, I don't recall any journalists asking you about it past 1994... As a die hard GNR fan, the bullshit that Kurt Cobain would say always pissed me off...

2.  I have heard in many places that you had a documentary crew filming pretty much at all times during the Use Your Illusion tour...is that true? and is there any chance that footage will ever see the light of day?

2 questions:

1. Can you talk about your arrest in the Phoenix airport in 1995 and what went down?
2. My wife and I are due with our first child very soon and we were wondering if you could help in providing us with some baby names?

Cheers and Merry X-mas,

1.Following the internet leaks of demos for "I.R.S.", "Better", and "There Was a Time" back in early 2006, you performed those songs live throughout the summer tour.  Would there be any credence to you performing those songs live to give a proper representation to the songs after unfinished mixes spread?

2. Who do you consider to be your all time favorite sport team and do you have a favorite or admired athlete?

I hope to see you someday soon preform in Houston, TX.  I was only 8 and considered too young by my parents at the time to go to the Guns/Metallica show at the Astrodome and in 2002 I bought front row tickets from a broker prior to the tour cancelation.  All the best of love and thanks for giving us this candid opportunity.

Hey Mr. Rose!

i was really upset when i couldn't go to the show in San Francisco at the Warfield in '06, but i bought tickets to see Guns in Sacramento; it was canceled, though, along with other shows. Did the cancellation of the last couple of shows really affect the release of Chinese Democracy? Can i get tickets/backstage pass for an upcoming show, like in L.A or San Diego now that i live in SoCal, when you guys tour? lol i'm just tryin to get the most out of a once in lifetime chance man... :P

thanks a bunch! chinese democracy is a great early 17th birthday present.

2)  Did you ever meet Cory and Trevor?

Thank you   :peace:

Hi Axl, first of all thanks for everything over the years and respect for your work!

Could you tell us a bit about your vocal instrument, how it has evolved over the years, ups and downs, what's technically challenging with regard to recording vocals etc. ? Do you work on any specific area to try to adapt your voice to certain styles? To what degree do you feel like you are in control over your own voice and that you are able to get the exact tone or sound you are looking for?

Hi Axl - greetings from Scotland!!! (Get your ass over here sometime soon....)

My question is : Do you ever think about your legacy, and the future legacy of GNR?  Do you hope to be remembered as being up there with Led Zep, the Stones, etc?

That's how myself and a lot of the fans think of GNR - you guys are the best band to come out of an era. But does this add a lot of pressure when song-writing  or putting out a new album - if it has to live up to these standards and expectations?

Thanks,

John.

Sure that wasn't a joke? Who knows...
All I know is he said some years ago (like back in 2000) that he  was inspired by writing the song after the oklahoma bombing... From the article:

Another song, called ''Oklahoma'' - heard tonight only as an instrumental - was inspired by a court date with ex-wife Erin Everly. ''I was sitting in my litigation with my ex-wife, and it was the day after the bombing,'' Rose remembers with a wince. ''We had a break, and I'm sitting with my attorneys with a sort of smile on my face, more like a nervous thing - it was like, 'Forgive me, people, I'm having trouble taking this seriously.' It's just ironic that we're sitting there and this person is spewing all kinds of things and 168 people just got killed. And this person I'm sitting there with, she don't care. Obliterating me is their goal.''

I dunno, I figured that if it got changed to berlin it might have changed from being about the bombings to being about second worldwar, as you said who knows, hopefully time will tell

Thanks for taking the time to share so much information with us.

1 - To follow-up on your comments regarding Catcher in the Rye, specifically on how particularly vulnerable individuals might be pushed over the edge by getting too caught up in the whole "Holden Caufield Syndrome"  -- you seem to be promoting the idea of artist / writer / musician responsibility.  Have you ever felt the need to self-censor yourself for that reason or do feel that you should have self-censored on any previously released GNR records?

2 - You and Izzy have made great music together and have both made great music since he left GNR.  At the same time, in comparing Izzy's solo albums to Chinese Democracy, there's a bit of a difference there, so I wonder what it was like for you writing with Izzy back in the day and resolving any musical differences that you had.

Merry Christmas!

Dexter,

Thank You for all the time and effort. I hope these are not too personal:

1. Do You think You have now found peace and love You need - firstly inside, but also with people surrounding You (friends, the band...) and is there anything that makes You smile when You wake up in the morning?

2. If this direct fans communication will work for You in the way You expected, would You consider interacting with fans more on some things as tour audio/video ideas, music videos, website content, etc.?

Thanx for all!

Love,

Velimir

Must... Resist urge... To edit my questions... Into earlier posts so... That there is more chance... That he will see them...

Axl!, great to see you referencing Pink Floyd, my favourite band (no offence ;)), though GNR come in at a respectable fourth! (The Who and The Kinks, if you're asking.) Anyway, my two questions are Floydish:

1) Are you a Floyd fan yourself? If so, which was your favourite lineup (Barrett lead, Waters lead, Gilmour lead... As if you didn't know) and album?

2) What is the longest song that the band have recorded? I'd love to see a 20 minutes plus effort (Dogs is my favourite song ever!) from the likes of yourself, Bucket, Brain and Finck... My Lord. It would just about make my year. I know that it isn't realistic that we would ever see a song of that length released by a band as big as yours (I don't think that you'd be able to get away with it these days...), but have the band ever worked on anything that pushed the limits of acceptable length... If so, was it cut down into something else, or is it destined to stay locked away in the vaults?

Cheers, Axl!

1) what are the chances of RAPIDFIRE ever seeing the light of day, or any of your other really early work. i personally really enjoyed the hollywood rose stuff, and am very eager to get anything like that i can?

2) what are your more 'prog' influences (if any)?

3) is what sebastian bach says about a 'trilogy' acurate?

4) can buckethead come back?

5) when can we hope to see the music video for 'better' and are you planning any others?

6) thank you for the best album in years : ok:

Hello Axl, thanks a lot for answering fan questions.  I really appreciate you taking the time to answer questions from, in my opinion, the people who really matter to musicians, even if you necessarily don't answer mine.

1.) What do you think about the Red Hot Chili Peppers?  They are one of my favorite bands.  And I think I read that GNR played with them a few times.  Do you recall any memorable events from those show(s)?

2.) Why was Prostitute chosen to be the closer on the album?  Did you look at all the songs that you had recorded and decide while looking at them all or while it was being recorded did you and the band think "This would sound great as a closer"?

2. What is the hardest song for you to sing live? Not emotionaly but vocally

Live and be well ,keep doing what you do and most of all thanks for the inspiration.

Hi, Axl!

On RIR III you told us you've been taken care by a brazilian family for a long  time. That was one of the most emotional moments to Guns fans and maybe in the history of Guns live gigs. It was a great surprise to many of us brazilians that were unaware of that and at the same time it made us very proud of the Lebeis Family. So, please, if you can / want, tell us a bit about how much you've been influenced by any aspect of brazilian culture and other little things...

1) Do you know how to speak portuguese;  know/like any brazilian bands / artists / books / movies / cities / food / girls?  : ok:

2) Have you ever been here in other situations (beyond RIR II & III)?

3) Any chances of a faster tempo version of "Street of Dreams" in the future, like played on RIR 3 (include the "O.K., Nevermind" line, please)?

4) Who exactly are Renato and Zozi??

Thanks for everything! CD is awesome! Fuck the lame journalists!! When you come back here you'll have a crowd of 400k (twice as RIR 3 - if there's a venue that can hold that amount of people - maybe Copacabana Beach   :smoking: ).

Questions for Axl that I don't think have been asked:

Is there any plans to have the entire Chinese Democracy album up for download in Rock Band 2? Please say yes. I want to add that I really dug hearing you dj the rock station in GTA: San Andrea. That was the only station in the game I would listen too. You were great! Brings me to my next question.

How was that experience? You seemed like you were having a lot of fun. And, would you ever consider doing any more voice work in other projects?

China. Thank you so very fucking much for thumbing your nose at them the way you do in the title track. This song is actually very powerful and I don't think very many even get it exactly. It is actually really ballsy that you are, again, thumbing your nose at them. That is a lot ballsier then going off on some 2 bit punk jounalist or some other singer from a shitty band. Are you at all surprised by there reaction and if so, did you laugh your ass off, at least on the inside?

I know you talked briefly regarding Buckethead but let's talk brass tacks. Are you in contact with Buckethead about future collaborations?

Buckethead, to be honest with you, was the one who really made me not care that Slash wasn't involved initially. Actually getting to hear the top notch musicianship and guitar work on the new album really cements that and that fact is, I just don't care that he (Slash) isn't. In fact I think the album is so good I say good riddance. Buckethead is obviously a big part of this and his solo's specifically I think stand out as some of GNR's finest. You two seem to make a great team. I find the songs that attract me most in altered states on this album all seem to ironically have Bucket involved. Which brings me to my final thought, at least for now:

If The World has become a stoner go to. Absolutely love it. Any chance of you doing more tripped out music? I think your voice backed by this tripped out sound really complements each other. I guess what I am saying is that wherever you want to take the sound, I am onboard.

P.S. I am really taken with the new album. Chinese Democracy is something truly timeless and special. Sitting pretty with only a very small select few.

Ok, 10 pages of questions, so lets try one that nobody's asked :P

1) What type of knot do you tie your tie in.. : ok:

2) I know you said you dont really listen to much new stuff, but what do you think of  'Black Tide'?  These kids are awesome imo.

Lastly CD is brilliant so much heart and soul in it, possibly the album of the decade musically and i hope for a bit more promotion so others may enjoy it like i have!
Great work!

Axl,

I love chinese democracy, it's really a masterpiece.  As a Boston, MA native I have to ask:

1)  Are you a fan of anything Boston like the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins or Patriots (even though we beat your beloved Raiders back in 2001), the venues, the people here?

Thank you very much in advance and please come back to Boston Soon!

Happy Holidays,

Hi Axl,

First my congrats for releasing chinese democracy. I think it is a masterpiece. Saw "old guns" in Madrid in 93 and "guns" in Madrid 06 and in Bilbao`s festival. Been a fan since more than 20 years ago.....even my little child (one year old) is beggining to hear some songs  :hihi:

Questions:

1.- As you're a F1 fan and in Spain we are quite supportive of Alonso, despite your friendship with Raikkonnen..... who do you think will win the 09 season?. How many Cristal did you and Raikkonnen had when you hang out?

2.- What do you feel is your biggest achievement in your music career?

3.- Do you foresee in the future releasing a "more instrumetal type" of solo album?

4.- Have you been in touch with "gobernator" since t2?

I find it really nice of you to come to these boards and spend your time talking and answering to fans, even giving your side of the story without profiting from it.

ps. should you need any legal advice in Spain (not wishing you any legal problems here :'(), do not hesitate to contact me ;D
pss hearing live til, shackler's, prostitute, scrapped, breakdown and don't damm me would be incredible : ok:

I remember being 16 in 1992, staring at the map of Europe only to follow your tour stops with my finger with people around me thinking I was losing it  ::). And me wondering how they were managing to keep it cool.

14 years passed, and on the 15th of June 2006 you arrived in Poland. No map this time, my own backyard...

I wish to thank you for coming to Poland, sir.

And I'm afraid I'm no different from any of those who wish you had some memories of their "special" places and their "special" shows. In truth, I don't expect you to remember, but should you have any slightest recollections, please share... Should you not, could you just comment on what I said, so when one day somebody asks me' 'What did you do last night?', I'll be able to reply, ' The usual, corrected some of my students' papers, obviously they sucked, so I had some martini, then I talked to Axl Rose, caught some news on TV, and went to sleep.' And who is the loser now?  : ok:

You may not know this, but you are a life-keeper...

Agata

Axl, in 99, you did a RS interview and played them tracks from CD. In that interview you said it would not be healthy to talk to Izzy when he showed up at your house. Since then, the two of you played onstage and obviously re-conviened(spell). Could you elaborate on how you two patched things up, and have you recorded/wrote together? Also could you comment on talking with Gilby, Matt, and Steven?

Hey Axl! Well to start you have the nicest ass I've ever seen! It's perfect and looks amazing especially in your biker shorts [which I hope to see you in soon]. Okay.
1. Do you ever stand in front of the mirror naked and tell yourself how hot you are?

2. Do you have a girlfriend?

*Danielle* Hope to see you in Chicago soon! [Without a shirt on and wearing your black shorts and cop hat!]

Some of the current band memeber's have really good voices, have you ever spoke about letting them sing parts on albums or live? like Duff and Izzy did?

What albums are you waiting for? ;-)

Outside of touring, have you travelled the world and if so what have you learnt from your experiences? Where was your favorite place? Have you had the opportunity to talk to people who don't know you as Axl the rock star? Did this change your outlook on life?

I seem to remember you visited China a while back with the band (is this correct?). Was this before or after you decided on the name the album? When was the moment that 'Chinese Democracy' came into your head as the title? And did you have any other names?

Do you still collect crucifixes? What is it about them that draws you to them? And was wearing them upside down a statement?

What are your favorite musical scores? Would you be interested in writing one and if so, what type of movie would most interest you. Maybe you would like to direct a movie aka Rob Zombie?

Alive or dead, who are the 5 people you'd most like to share a dinner party with (I know this is kinda tacky!)

Obviously you have one of the most recognisable and distinct voices on the planet? Do you have to practice hard to keep it up, and do you see your voice changing in the next few years?

Are you in music for life and what could you see yourself doing when you're older if you want to continue?

What is the best advice anyone gave you?

What music do you HATE?

Was there ever a time previously when Chinese Democracy came close to release? If so why was the plug pulled?

Putting aside all of your history for a minute, could we ever see an official release of 'Live at the Ritz' or the 'Use Your Illusion' movie that was intended for cinema release? Or the Its So Easy promo Video? I really feel the official Live at Tokyo vids never really captured the essence of the old band.

Cheers, Axl!

My questions will probably go unanswered; either way, i haven't seen seen this asked, and if it has "oops, oh well", i'll ask a third "optional" if u don't like my first:
1. Would you ever kick anyone out of the current line-up if Slash (or any ex-member, like Izzy?) made up for all he's done (in your view) OR what would it take for you guys to reconcile--if he was dying would you donate a kidney if he needed it?
2. Do you play WoW (world of warcraft)?
3. What's your favorite kind of cheese?

I appreciate your music.  Helps a lot when i'm angry or down.  Good Luck..

Hey Axl,

Congrats on the release of one of the most complete albums of modern times  : ok: , my two questions are:-

1) Looking at the Label's Greatest Hits Album, what released song before Chinese Democracy were you most dissapointed didn't make the track listing (obviously the tracks on the album were made up from singles), but it could be one of an album tracks...?

2) The last tour in Europe 06 opened up with a great instrumental track before the opening riff to 'Welcome To The Jungle' which sent the crowd into a frenzy - has this or are there any plans to progress this piece?

Thanks mate and have great Christmas and New Year  :smoking:

1.) "The Shackler" is a theme that Buckethead has used in the past. That being said (and the fact that he was given a songwriting credit), I thought it was odd that Bumblefoot was credited for the solo in the booklet. Especially since the solo sounds like Buckethead's distinguished style. Was the crediting of Thal a mistake?

2.) Have you talked to Buckethead since the release of "Chinese Democracy"?

I feel that he is far and away the most important guitarist of the album and as such, an intregal (sp?) part of Guns n' Roses. I really hope that you two can patch whatever went down up for him to come back for a post release CD tour.

1. Regarding your voice, it seemed the quality of your voice changed greatly from 2001/2002 (say Rock in Rio or the VMAs) to 2006 (say, the Manhattan Center shows, which were awesome btw). I was wondering the cause of this. Was it intentional that you had such a higher, quasi-falsetto voice in the early part of the decade but then reverted almost back to what you were doing earlier in your career (AFD and UYL tours)?

Title: My question
Post by: In a coma on December 15, 2008, 07:31:40 PM
I have to say its awesome that Axl is answering our questions, my questions is:

1- At donnington you looked pretty annoyed at the sound and the fact the stage was slippy. How did you find the gig personally? I thought it was awesome and loved the fact that Izzy joined you. Will you play there again and did it bring back memories of the paradise city video gig? Also I thought Bumblefoot was awesome and his Don't cry calmed the situation. Just for interest I was stood with the guy reporting for Kerrang and he was out to get you(pun intended) from the start. Thank you so much for releasing the album and I can't wait live shows and future albums. Your music has changed my life!!!

2. Have you any new tattoos we haven't seen? Have you any ideas for a new tattoo you'd like to get?

First of all gotta say thanks for the q & a sessions, it has been a great read : ok:

Been a fan since 1988, love your song writing, and can relate to your strong sense of conviction and integrity.

I have two boys 14 and 11 and they were practically born singing GNR.  The youngest is wearing the new T-shirt from the HMV Cd pack (in Toronto)almost every day...haha.... their I-Pods are full of GNR and they love Shacklers Revenge. I actually heard the 11 year old singing This I Love today...sooooo cute! 8)

Question: What do you think about all the "new" GNR fans, that are kinda the second generation, all the 30 somethings kids?...its got to be pretty cool to think that your music & style is influencing a younger group of kids that might not be listening to GNR without their parents introduction to it, since most young kids are always bombarded with pop top 40?

P.S I took both kids to the Toronto show in 06' but left them at home for New York City - Hammerstein.. :hihi:

1) Why the name Madagascar?

This is one of my all time favourite songs, it has gotten me through a lot, and was the song that launched me into GnR fandom in the first place. Actually, any thing you have to say about this song would be amazing, I see there are already a few questions here and there.

And thanks for doing this, its amazing. : ok:

2. How do you see the next GN'R tour to go down? Theaters, arenas or stadiums? (Which of these three do you prefer generally?)

Axl...

I'm from Seymour, Indiana, and, the first time that I heard you make the Auschwitz reference, I knew exactly where you were coming from. I have to say though, either this place is getting a little better over time or I'm just getting better at over-looking it in my old age (25). Do you ever come back to visit or do you feel like it's basically not worth the hassle?

Anyway, thanks for the music. "Better" and "Prostitute" are amazing.

1. We all know that celebrities must develop tough skin to be able to deal with all the negative shit that comes with being famous. The media does nothing but print lies and negativity, and the general public eats that shit up. (Apparently 90% of the world's population is made up of dickheads and douchebags.) And although every celebrity has to deal with that to some extent, it seems like you catch more flak than just about any celeb I know of. No matter what you say, it's spun around by the media in a negative way. As a fan I get sick and tired of reading bullshit articles that do nothing but tear you down. And then I read the comments that users leave and all they do is make fun of you, like they want to see you fail. All I am is a fan, and yet it still angers me and frustrates me and saddens me when I read and hear that kind of stuff, so I can't imagine what kind of impact it must have on the person whom all the negativity and hatred is being directed. You gave out a big 'fuck you' to all the haters and naysayers with "Get in the Ring" . . . At this point in your life, do you just ignore all the negative shit people say about you? Does it still anger you and piss you off, or do you just become numb to it all? Also, if people weren't so eager to tear you down everytime you performed a show or made a public appearance, would we see more of you?

2. You quoted Cool Hand Luke in "Civil War," Vanishing Point in "Breakdown," and numerous films in "Madagascar," which leads me to believe that you're a bit of a film buff. So, just wondering, what are some of your favorite films?

1) Axl, if you read this, i ve always wanted to know if you have any future plans on starting a family....if you wanna have kids etc... i think it 'd be great for you to have a kid, it d fullfill your life and emotions....

2) What s your memories from Greece, if you have any  ;D back in 1993, and in 2006... both concerts were great, i think the 2006 one, was the greatest... and what did really happened in 1993 and Dizzy said "i didnt have in mind Athens, Greece when we wrote Civil War, but now it all comes to light....."

i d like t thank you for all the great songs you ve written all these years... and most of all, thank you for sticking to the name "Guns n Roses" and everything that this name stands for in our hearts!

hope to see you soon in greece again  : ok:

Man...you take a week or so "off" from the forums to take your kids to Disneyworld and look what fuckin' happens!

I've finally read the volumes that Axl wrote...some good stuff in there.  Certainly nice to see lots of his side of the story.  I'm going to dispense with the hero worship and gushing (though I could do hours of it, standing on my head....thanks for ALL the material: from appetite to Illusions to CD.  GREAT stuff and more or less the soundtrack of life, for me....see, there I go with the gushing and "hero worship"!) and get right to questions.

Here are my questions (and I'm gonna break the rules by posting 3):

1) What song would YOU most like to "cover", in concert....any song, any decade, any band/artist.

2) My favorite track on CD is "Sorry".   It reminds me of a more subdued version of "Get in the Ring"....sort of an "older mans" take.  Was it as cathartic to write as it sounds like it would be?  Can you talk a bit about that (in generalities...I'm not looking for specifics of "who, what's, where's" or for you to "name the guilty") and maybe give us a clue as to how "old" the song is?

3)  This I love.  Fucking wow.  I read that you were against including the song....but it may be one of the most powerful, beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.  It's certainly one that seems to really connect with a lot of people.  The "naked" piano and vocals really bring so much meaning to the lyrics, and I give you major props for putting yourself out there like that....ah, there I go with the gushing again.  Can you talk about why you didn't want to include that song?  Too personal? Too painful?  Again, I'm not looking for specifics..but if you could talk in generatlities about the process that song went through, and where it came from (to me: it's the sound of a heart breaking captured almost perfectly)?

Thanks and here's hoping you come back soon and nobody scared you away.  :)

Here's my questions:

1)  Was/Is "This I Love" meant to be the 3rd part of the (1) Don't Cry (2) November Rain (3)?? (4) Estranged trilogy?

2)  I personally have long been a fan of the "epic" gnr songs such as November rain, estranged, coma etc....and I noticed that there are no super long songs on Chinese Democracy.  Are the days of the long epic gnr songs gone?

And the Dexter TV show, hopefully. Maybe Six Feet Under as well. Oh, wait! Axl, I find the verses on Shackler's Revenge to remind me of The Sopranos theme tune in certain ways. Should they do? Furthermore, any chance of getting the complete album on Rockband? That would be swell. I've done SR on expert, so if you're looking for a guitarist, PM me.

Edit: Shit, I just saw the above post in red. We'll have to find out the answer to that one another day

Hi Axl,

Greetings from your home state of Indiana!

Two quick questions:
1) Someone asked if there was a trilogy. You said those were someone else's thoughts. Has Sebastian speaking out about Chinese Democracy put a stint in your friendship or is there a good chance he'll be back on stage for the tour?

2) How do you feel about people who record the concerts (video or audio) and DO NOT SELL the recordings, as well as people who trade the recordings?

Axl,

First and foremost, thank you for your music, it has brought a lot of joy to my life.

Ok, here we go anyway...

'You Could Be Mine' was used on the soundtrack for for Terminator 2: Judgment Day in 1991 and then 'Oh My God' in 1999 for End Of Days. Would Guns consider adding to the soundtrack of 2009's TERMINATOR: SALVATION? I personally think Shackler's revenge would be an excellent choice.

On the last few tours, we've seen your style change slightly. The 2002 tours you wore football shirts, in 2006 you went more casual with waistcoats, t-shirts and jeans with good old leather jackets. Will you be diversifying your look on any future tours? And are the braids here to stay?

Thanks Axl, all the best! :peace: : ok:

Doesn't that make you wanna do an acoustic gig?

Gn'r never did Mtv Unplugged like many bands did, or anything like that, that could be seen by everyone.

Maybe you could consider the possibility of doing something along those lines for the fans, the band has the chops for something great and we fans would love to see this.

I will be making myself fucking nuts waiting for that particular week when the full album will be up for download. Pilferk, we need to fucking play sometime. I am fucking serious when Chinese Democracy will be available, Some of us from here should hook up and play online in a band together. Can't fucking wait!

I'm up for it....as long as you have the game on Xbox 360.  :)

usertag is the same as my posting name.

Did Scraped or Shackler's Revenge ever have working titles that we may have heard before?

http://www.bucketheadland.com/faq/faq2/FAQ_2_0.html

This is from 2003, and it includes "Shackler's Revenge (score to lost film)" as a credit (Bucket co-wrote the song).

So SR was supposed to be the name of a movie that never wound up happening. It's had the same name for at least five years.

Thanks for sharing your heart n sole with the world, "love the work" your blessed indubitably... Future plans: Will you be orchestrating an album with less over dubs, raw to the point of black and white vs. color like Chinese? It seems raw would be so awesome coming from you. Again, thanks for Chinese

I've been real crazy lately and im pissed i wasn't around when you were posting axl, but i just gotta say the album kicks ass and ive been listening to it constantly since November 23rd.

I saw you mentioned about an acoustic piece of music as being a possible follow up to "This I Love", There are songs on CD that have acoustic parts, but I was wondering if in the future there would be songs that were stripped down acoustic stuff in the same vein as the Lies album?

Thanks Axl and I hope sometime in the near future your playing shows in New York cause im ready to rock  : ok:

If I get 2 questions then here is my second one....

Did Costanzo find it hard to divide his time between Chinese Democracy and filming the final season of Seinfeld?

George Costanza! Can't-stand-ya!

Hi Axl

What are your thoughts on the "loudness wars", e.g. in relation to the Death Magnetic album which many fans feel suffers from clipping and digital distortion?

Thanks so much for answering questions from fans. Awesome that you're doing this. I've been a fan since 1991 and I have huge admiration and respect for you.

Hi Axl,
my questions for you are :
1. What is the story behind Magadagascar? It is my favourite song on this great album, but it has a strange name which I never got. I feel you have expressed all that you have been through in all these years. When some called you a villain and a has been but you never let it deter you from the musical path you took.  It also seems to have a very similar mood to how Estranged sounds so does it take off from where Estranged left?

2. How do you find your fans from India and is there a chance you might come to India in your next tour? You have alot of hard core fans here and we would all be very excited if you plan to come here.

thanks Axl, you're the best!!!

1. Any chance GNR will ever play in Romania? The Stones didan excellent sold out show last year (teasing  ::))

Drove all the way to Hungary, Budapest to see you in 2006. Great show btw!

The communism is long gone so please come  ;) There are lots of  fans here waiting for you. Not as many as in South America but, hey, we're a small country  :D

2. As you probably know, George Carlin passed away this spring. I loved his work with all my heart. I discovered him pretty late, some years ago. Some of his monologues reminded me of your on stage rants. Curious to hear your thoughts on him. Were you a fan?

Love,

Catalina

Its called madagascar because if you look at the map of africa, Madagascar is the only large piece of land that is seperated from mainland africa.  Listen to the lyrics and you can put two and two together.

Axl, iv written a song called "the bends"

its a song about bein so down an forgotten bout then all of a sudden im high n happy (eg the effects of "the bends")

its like my nitogen in my blood has stopped the oxygen gettin to my brain an now im able to be happy. yet i think LESS about WHY im happy

to me its my take on "GNR" bein forgotten about like at the bottom of the ocean then all of a sudden its thrust into the open air and things are easier to see but harder to deal with for yourself

does this make any sense to you

Scottyl333, I can grasp that bit, but this song goes much deeper than its name and its connection to the lyrics would tell. We can't tell what Axl meant exactly by these lyrics. I am just interested in hearing about it from Axl himself because these lyrics have a very powerful meaning and seem to influence my mood alot.

Axl,
When are you going to book a USO tour?  You will never find a more appreciative audience, or a more rewarding experience.  I am sypathetic to all you have gone through...but at least you don't get shot at for a living...Kick off the next tour with dates in Baghdad and Kandahar.
Thanks.
