Title: Snowing
Post by: western_chaos on December 13, 2008, 01:36:06 PM
So, the snow has finally hit salt lake city, utah, this is our first major snow-storm here and it's December 13th. It's snowing pretty hard right now, and we are expecting to get five inches by the end of today, and it will continue through at least monday, but it will taper off after this afternoon.

So, how about you guys? Snowing where you live? You Like snow? Hate it?

We had SOME snow here on the East Coast (CT) last weekend.  Not too much to speak of though,  But I had to drive back home from Boston while it was snowing and my car got all dirty from the sand, salt, snow, etc.  It rained this week, so that washed away some of that crap.  I may need a trip to the car wash soon though to finish it off.  It's been awhile.

I like the snow as long as I don't have to go out and drive in it.  I once did a 540 degree turn on the highway when I slipped on some snow/ice in the fast lane.  I ended up facing oncoming traffic.  Luckily I ended up in the breakdown lane after brushing up against the highway divider and traffic was light so I didn't hit anyone.  I calmly turned my car back in the RIGHT direction and continued on home.  I thought my car must've been f'ed up after hitting the divider, but it was real minimal damage luckily.  Just some scraped paint and my front bumper was hanging just a little.  So all in all I don't like driving in the snow very much.

I also like snow early on in winter but by the time February rolls around, enough is enough.  Bring on the warm weather.

I was out there skiing in November at Brighton. I didn't even have to wear a hat and switched out of my wool sweater in lieu of a lighter fleece. It was also warmer in the valley then it was in Florida.

You make me sick to my stomach.

I make myself sick to my stomach.

My old man has always hated the snow.  That's the number one reason he left New York City for sunny L.A..  And he never took me.   :(

But come this winter, a bunch of friends and I are going to rent a cabin out in Big Bear for the weekend and go snowboarding.  I can't wait!  I've waited my whole life to play in the snow.

Snowball fights.

Making snow angels and snowmen/women.

And sitting in front of the fireplace with a special someone with a cup of hot chocolate, marshmallows optional.

When I was 20 I had a job wrapping firewood. We'd unload a huge truck, then pile up the wood for the guy who would cut it down. There was this medieval looking hand operated "machine" to place the wood in so you could create the bundle. At the bottom was a roll of large plastic wrap. You'd place a few pieces in, wrap the plastic around twice, then throw in a flyer and do another wrap around. When you were done with that, you'd staple in the handles. I think I got paid 10-20 cents a bundle or something.

I walked to that job, often in the snow and remember one morning it was 9 degrees. So cold, but doing that kind of work, I was down to my flannel, and then had that wrapped around my waist within an hour or so. I kind of enjoyed it in a way...but not really.  :hihi:

Title: Re: Snowing

LOL. I'm scared of the ice as well. there is currently wide-spread panic across the nation over winter weather that has come on suddenly.

We had to shut down one of our freight centers because there was three inches of ice on the streets.

Still snowing here, I haven't seen so much snow since i don't know when, it is absolutely beautiful.  You have to understand I live in the woods, with basically no neighbors, it is pretty much about us and nature, really it's breathtaking!!! Will put a picture up later.

Yesterday was my first outing since Sunday, my husband does all the driving, he is not bothered at all by the weather and is a great driver in it, while I am nothing except white knuckled, so I just stay pretty close to home. Took keys away from daughter who is 18, has no real experience and drives a mustang, she had a royal fit in the beginning   but seems to understand now, and by the way, yes she is 18, but mummy and daddy own the vehicle she drives. ( Ha gotcha).

Are you on the east coast?  I just shoveled the driveway a couple hours ago.  What fun!  We're supposed to get another messy storm with a wintry mix on Sunday, and then another possible storm on X-Mas eve.  Looks like it'll be a White Christmas for sure.

Down in this so called hole we live in, it was only like 10 degrees last evening while my husband was outside insulating our outdoor well, and all the spickets on the outside of the house.  We are expecting I believe another storm coming in this afternoon, which is suppost to bring with it some extremely high winds.  I am a little worried I must say as I live so remotely, but I'm sure all will be well, just gonna sit back keep enjoying the beauty of it all.

I'm going to the New England Patriots game tomorrow and it's supposed to snow in the morning and turn to a wintry mix later in the day.  It's gonna be a mess.  So much so that we have one extra ticket and can't find anyone to take it.  People are scared off by the snow apparently.  We have tents and heaters for the tailgating so the cold won't be a factor, plus once you get inside the stadium the heat generated by the 60,000 fans keeps you from freezing.  I just don't understand.  It's a big, meaningful game and what's better than football in the snow?  Of course I'm not driving to the game, I'm hitching a ride, so I don't have to worry about that.  If I had to drive myself, then I could sympathize with those that have turned the tickets down.

Anybody want to go?

What a shitty fucking game that was today. Awesome on TV though the way the snow was. Second only to the Seattle/NYJ game.

I love horrible weather football games.

why would a person "HAVE" to run that many miles? HAHA would be damn scary if something was after u to make u run that far.

If Jason or micheal Myers ever got after me, they'd just say fuck it and find someone else to kill.

Actually I had to due to half marathon training and it was a personal choice due to health/weight etc.

It was 8 below 0 this morning when I left the house.  8 fucking below 0.  It warmed up slightly as I headed south, to work, and the sun got a bit further up in the sky.  It's a balmy 12 degrees outside, right now, in the sun.

I'd rather have it snow than be this cold!
It's snowed a decent bit here in Ct. so far, but damn, I don't think it's been above freezing in weeks!

We have fog now in salt lake city. You can't see a thing. I have to use my cell phone for my bus to see me lol.

It was up to like 48 today, and yet we still had a huge mass of fog. Very un-usual. It was like the movie the Fog. ha ha.

But, eventually the snow will come again and push this stuff out of here.

It's been snowing and hailing and god knows what else here today. It's quite calm just now though, the snow is falling softly. Though I expect the hail will be back soon to bombard the windows some more....

It snowed.  Alot....then being South East England, it decided to give up and resort to what it does best.  A nasty cold drizzle that's rapidly turning the few cm of snow we did have into something resembling a week old slush puppy.

I'm actually quite disappointed.  Watching the weather forecast for this area yesterday, you'd think the apocalypse was about to arrive.  I was expecting to have to wade through the snow just to get to my car.  As it was, I hardly got my feet wet.

Mind you, given the chaos on the roads after a few cm...... god knows what'll happen if we actually get the predicted snowfall.......

So, over the weekend, the south east and other places received much unexpected snowfall in march.

At my company, our call center in Richmond, Virginia closed so it was just us in Salt Lake City on monday and we had people working from 5 am to 5 p.m. lol.  I worked from 7-4, and there were absolutely zero breaks between calls.

Just wanted to mention how funny this is because in salt lake city, we would never cancel work because of snow. ever.

But, the snow did affect a lot of people this week. A lot of businesses ended up shutting down.
