Title: Why is CD available at Amazon from Dec 16th?

Thought Best-Buy had exclusive rights in the US, and amazon.com is an US store. I heard somewhere that the exclusive rights run for 16 months. Is that true, and if not, for how long do they hold the exclusive rights? Will the record be available everywhere after that?

Has anyone heard the SHM-CD's of Chinese Democracy yet?? I'm not sure if they are out anywhere yet or not... I'm just curious as to the difference in sound quality.

I will be shocked if there is any discernible difference at all... digital is digital... 1's and 0's don't change... I don't understand how a "clearer" plastic can make a CD sound better if it's not analog

Vendors in the US can still sell CD, they just have to buy it as an import rather than directly from the label or domestic distributors.  Buy it as an import generally means they have to pay more to get it

Jarmo posted pictures of CD at Virgin Megastore in LA, which was selling the import version

Also saw stores in L.A. and NYC sell promotional copies with the bar code either cut or blacked out....

I saw Chinese Democracy on vinyl at Amoeba for 25 bucks.

Best Buy was blacked out with a sharpie on the packaging.

Last night I needed to pick up a gift (a dvd) for a friend and it was raining out and I was running late so I just went into the nearest record store (instead of going across town to BestBuy).  In this other store was a display of the top Billboard releases and Chinese Democracy was one of them.  I wanted to pick up another copy of CD anyway so I just automatically grabbed it along with my dvd purchase.  When I got home and checked my receipt, I noticed that the dvd was listed under the actual title of the movie but CD was listed as "Bullets and Flowers" on the receipt.  :hihi:

Yep.  There's a little record store here in Louisville that bought CD's and vinyls from Best Buy, then marked them up 50%.  The Best Buy stickers were covered up with new ones, but still very visible to the curious eye.

CDs were going for $15.99 and vinyls for $29.99 last I saw.

I guess they hope to catch fans who have no idea the album is out and exclusive (and cheaper) at BB.
