Title: Touring to support the album
Post by: The Catcher on November 28, 2008, 08:18:03 AM
I hate speculation, but I'm too excited about the idea of a tour in support of Chinese Democracy.
How long after an album's release is it normal (I know GN'R are not normal, thank God for that! ;D) for a band to go out on tour?
Thanks! I just want to know so even if it's too early to speculate, I can start dreaming

Most bands do it a few weeks before or after a release but from what I read in that Fortus interview, I'm guessing It will start sometime between june and september next year.

It's normal for a band to have already been touring for a couple of months before the album's released.  It's all a part of the promotion that they seem determined not to do (along with interviews, music videos, etc.).

But GN'R have already toured for years with some of CD's songs on the setlist and under the Chinese Democracy banner.
The next tour will have to be to support the released album and to finally give the fans access to all of the songs live! :smoking:

Thanks!

I must have missed that interview, what did he say?

Basically he said he is busy with other projects until early January and then they are getting together around that time. I say June/Sep because I don't think a tour will be announced until Jan/Feb and once its announced it usally has about 5 to 6 months of promo before the shows. But like you said, this is GN'R and they do, do things a little differently. So you never know. I hope I'm wrong and they start touring around March. But I also think they will be in Australia for 2010 Big Day Out. Gunns cost me a fortune.  :hihi:

maybe with this new tour we will find out the name for the next record  :P ... and hear some songs from the next record  :o

OK. back to being serious, I think they planned to tour form January, but may have to postpone it now if (as) Robin is out.

It wont be january. That only gives max of 8 weeks between promo and shows. Assuming they beging promotion today. Can't see that happening. Would be nice though.

I'd say that if they start rehearsing in January, they could be on the road in March/April.  Maybe they'll do Reading and Leeds Festivals in August.

I'm guessing that they'll tour on summer in Europe again like 2006! It's best way to promote album on all those festivals at that time. Lots of people in one place, and pretty good chance for promoting album! ;)

And maybe they'll come to Serbia on EXIT Festival 09! It's in my hometown and the festival is celebrating 10th birthday. Guns'n'Roses will be the best f***** present for festival, my town and my country!  : ok:

So Axl, do Europe next year on summer!  ;)

Richard said to me back in October that plans were being made then for the tour so I think we will hear more over the coming month or so.

They will probably get together in January to rehearse. I'm sure they'll play a few shows before beginning their tour. Maybe a few small shows and festivals in February/March/April. Robin will be on tour with NIN so who knows...we may not see or hear anything until May or June.

I'm still disappointed in how they promoted the album this week  :-\.

I can't remember it was Bumblefoot or Richard, but didn't one of them say that they would be busy with GNR for the next two years?

Also with the whole Robin thing, wasn't the "Guns N' Robin" story on the official GNR page back around April? I have to imagine that if they haven't gotten something hammered out with him (either your in or out type thing) that they must have some sort of plan other wise there is NO WAY Axl would have released this album, with no intention of touring.

Tour 'should' be all set to go middle or last week of January.

A promoter in Paris said that.  Bumblefoot has come out on his own forum saying that is untrue

We've had tours previously to support this album, 2002 and 2006-07 9 believe both were called the 'Chinese Democracy Tour'.

But I would think they'd go out on the road sometime in 2009. My guess is that they are waiting on Robin.

If Robin is busy, I can see Bucket filling his vacancy.

What is bucket doing now?  Busy?  Whomever is going to 'sub' would need to be in the studio or other rehearsal environment now, getting used to playing their songs (assuming they are shooting for Jan start)...especially with so much new material to learn.  All I have to say is "I've got a funny feeling" there is one person who could blow this thing up like a hydrogen bomb - more free press than anyone has ever seen - and he's not touring, is 'quietly' working in studio, and would also benefit from free promo...there's the hook, line and sinker, any takers?

The Rolling Stone article made a reference to a 2009 World Tour.

Other than the mention in RS about a tour, this is the only other article I have seen that talks about a tour...

On the road? - After sporadically touring during the past several years, the latest GNR lineup has no concert dates scheduled to launch Chinese Democracy. One source close to the band said a tour is under consideration.

Once I took my aluminum foil beanie off, and sobered up...my 'theory' didn't seem as plausible anymore. :hihi:
PS - It would be a great move for everyone though...

I think everyone would be welcoming Bucket back into the band by now. even the bitches that were nagging about GN'R being surreal with the masked KFC avenger on stage. now that they've seen all the brilliant work he has done, I think they will be wanting to see him play this shit live too!

Hate to say this, but, one would think they would have a better organized 'marketing' campaign, have CD Merch available for 'black friday', etc.  Conventional thinking does not apply to GnR...they will announce tour dates when they are good and ready...I think it was Axl that warned us 'not to hold our breath' (concerning a recently released album).

Trust that it will happen...and it 'probably' will, someday.
