Also, the solos on each song that u like the most.


One of my favorite licks is on "Catcher In The Rye" toward the end where Axl sings "And Then the Voices went Away"  The lick there is awesome. who plays that??

I can't even begin to name a favorite yet.  That's way more difficult than listing 1 thru 14.

I'll say Robin's solo in This I Love stands out above the rest..................for now.

1 - Robin Finck, "This I Love". The second and third solo are far far far away from this solo
2 - Finck / Buckethead, "There Was A Time"
3 - Robin Finck, "Street Of Dreams"

I also love the blues solo and the one in scraped.

Ron really shines on the licks in C.D.

the acoustic guitar stuff is also a highlight!

The work on There Was a Time is absolutely breathtaking...  Truly fantastic stuff.   

Bucket's work on Shackler's is great too, especially how he continues on after Axl comes back in with the vocals again and you can hear it underneath.


There are just too many highlights to pick one... :)

BTW - Anyone notice that buckethead has nothing planned for next year?  No more tour dates planned.

Im actually digging Ron's solo on Rhiad. I know a lot of people who were indifferent to it but I like it.


We can't forget "Sorry" it is one of the best "slow" solos on the album. Very powerful and adds so much to the song.

Ron's licks in the CD verses make that song a lot better also.

All guitars in Better and the outro to Riad is insane!

Underneath the riffs and Bucket's outro on Prostitute (4:20) there's another amazing guitar work going on (I don't know how to call it: solo, lick, or anything else). Using a voice removal device or program can make it louder / more clear.

About 2 or 3 years ago someone out there described it as BH sounding like a "Crazy Pinball Machine". For my surprise that's the exact descripition of what is heard on that part.

Just wonder how that guy can pull impossible stuff like that! Starting to believe he's an alien indeed. :smoking:

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

The guitar at 3:38 in Better just has so much groove and... Well. All guitar driven music should have stuff like that in it!

Yeah this is a great solo from Robin, and I like it cause he is just playing it straight up.

I always had a problem with his guitar playing live cause he'd have a habit of tryin to get too fancy and slop too many notes together and it would just sound sloppy and shitty.

here though, it is great guitar playing.

Robin's solo on "This I Love" blows me away, just a stunning piece.  : ok:

All of Robin's playing stands out on the album, his style really captures that GN'R sound. I hope he now get's the praise he has always deserved from the doubters. Just hope to see him back on stage.

Ron's final touches really do pull the tracks together, I'm glad they used his input to finish this off.

So many high points, but I have to say pinnacle is TIL...hate to go there, but it is more 'Slash' than I would expect from Robin...very emotional, bending of notes - singing rather than just technical playing of guitar.

Rons solo from "Shacklers".  Far and above my favorite solo.

Robin's solo at the end of "Better" is not only my favorite solo on CD but it's one of my all time favorite GNR solos. Just so much emotion in there.

Bucket's Sorry Solo is one of the best. Its the one i really find myself singing.

Buckethead on Better and IRS are the two best 'rocking' solos and Robin's on TIL is stunning.  The Bucket solo in better makes my fists clench, which is always the sign of a good solo!

Best song overall for guitar is probably TWAT.

There Was A Time has the best guitar solo ever.
Simply breathtaking, moving and exciting.

I like the Sorry guitar solo, the middle bit. It has feel to it, which I like.

This I love has good guitar too. I like how that song develops.

I like the variations in There was a time. The guitaring in this is excellent.

Every second of guitar on the album is awesome. Favourites? The last three minutes of TWAT, the second solo of CD (not played at Rio in 2001), and Riad. And Better.

Buckethead's Sorry solo is perfect.
I also love the end solo in Prostitute and the solo in Catcher In The Rye.

one of my absolute little guitarlick or what to call it is in CITR 2.41-2.47, whole solo is great but that part is  :drool: :drool: :drool: everytime i hear it i gotta bring out my airguitar

Really love that rhythm bit in the background of the second chorus in Better.

I like the first guitar solo and parts 3:18-3:50 on I.R.S., The intro to Chinese Democracy at :47, and the acoustic stuff on If The World.   

I have been so wrapped up with listening to the other stuff, that I forgot - I love that buzzsaw stuff in Chi-dem...really stood out from the first time I heard it on the radio.

Pretty acurate.  I think there's better than Street of Dreams, but none of the others compare to This I Love or TWAT.

Robin Finck's solo toward the end of "Better" is definitely my favorite so far.  It just has so much feel and flow.  It reminds me of the solos on "Estranged" and "November Rain."

You guys have really done a great job covering all the killer guitar work that I have discovered THUS far. I think we'll STILL be finding cool guitar work on this album years from now. :drool:

I'll only add that Robin Finck's solo in "This I Love" is my favorite and I STILL consider it one of the finest instrumental performances on ANY Guns N' Roses album. Absolutely gorgeous. :peace: 

I'm a huge fan of Buckethead's playing and unsurprisingly my favourite solo's on the album are from him, there's so much emotion in his playing:

1. There Was A Time (Outro solo, possibly my favourite guitar solo in a song ever!)
2. If The World (Electric solo)
3. Sorry (Solo)

All the guitar on the album is amazing though and I really like Ron's additions to the songs. I also love Robin's solo's in 'There Was A Time' and 'This I Love'.
Also in 'Sorry' at 1min when Axl sings 'What were you thinking?' the guitar in the background is really nice, very cool sound.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned guitar works on Madagascar. I love it so much. Anyway, I can honesly say that in everz song on Chinese Democracy I love few guitar parts/licks/riffs/solos . This is what you'll get when you put 5 great guitar players together.

I can't believe I forgot to mention 'Madagascar' too, although I was mainly focusing on solo's. I love how Richard Fortus (I think?) holds that note as Axl screams and then just let's it go as it goes into the second verse. I know the part I mean anyway  :smoking:

It's an amazing guitar album. Blows me away every time I hear it. Robin's solos take the cake for me (Better, Street of Dreams, This I Love), as well as his acoustic parts in 'Sorry'. Bucket's work on 'If The World', 'Sorry', and 'Madagascar' are all great, especially 'Sorry'. Love the bluesy parts of it. Ron contributed greatly as well, with his additions to 'Chinese Democracy' and 'Shackler's Revenge'. Everyone's at the top of their game, but I'm sorely disappointed in the lack of anything great by Richard Fortus. He's definitely capable. The crown jewel of the album as far as guitars go is 'There Was A Time', though. It features the best guitar work since 'November Rain', IMO...

That would be Buckethead, not Fortus.

The TWAT solo is off-the-charts better than anything else on the album and is up there with some of my favorite Slash ones

If the World has a very cool one too

I still think it is Fortus, with booklet not being final cut. But that is just me.

Buckethhead's work in general on this album is amazing. I think it contributes so well. You can tell it's him. It's very unique.

The guitar work on the entire album obviously is insane! But if i had to pick a few personal favorites they'd be:
-Fincks work in This I Love, Better and Twat, IRS.
-Thal's  solo at the end of Shackler's (Near the end of the solo, it lasts for maybe two measures, some sort of sweep picked slide? Is that even possible?)
-Bucket's Twat solo, blurts of shredding in Prostitute, and his work in If the World
-Never mind this list could go on all day!

i love all the parts when bucket and bumble play super fast.  it's like so fast it almost sounds like a keyboard or computer program.  i almost have trouble listening to old gnr now because the guitar playing just sounds so basic.

Bumble's solo in Catcher is another gem. Also those moments on Riad and IRS where you have these cool guitar sounds in the background over the solo. What a fucking complex record in every way. Axl was right in calling it that.

I think Finck's star work is his solo on Better. It's crazy good, even though it's so simple.
And yeah, Shackler's is badass too. I like the tapping on the outro chorus especially.

My favorites: Robin's stuff: intro on Better, solo on This I Love, first solo on Catcher. Bucket's solo on There Was a Time and Sorry. Ron's additions to Chinese Democracy and his solo on Shackler's are also fun.

I think the coolest fucking musical piece on the album might be the solo on Shackler's

You have the slamming drums, the medieval military war chants, the bad ass rhythm guitars, and Ronald's wacky solo.  I had to listen to it a bunch of times to really get how cool it is

I've already mentioned the obvious ones but I feel like I should add Buckethead's fucking sick outtro to Riad. That's the most head-trippin', mind-blowin' playing I've heard in a fucking while. Credit where credit is due.
