Title: The more I listen to CD....
Post by: cdogg on November 27, 2008, 12:47:42 AM
The better it becomes.  Even songs I was iffy on the first time I heard them, I find myself singing in my head hours later.  This truly is a great album.  I pray I don't have to wait 17 years for Axl's next work....

Indeed. I keep having the grunting in the background of Shackler's solo play in my head. Along with the "no one's stopping you..." part. And I really didn't like the song at first.

Also with Riad... I've learned to ignore Axl's vocals and really appreciate the song. The lyrics kinda put me off at first but now it's starting to feel more and more masterpiecesque! Never thought I'd feel Axl is the part of a GNR song I don't like.

I thought I along with my friends were gonna start to lessen up on it, but I still can't stop listening to it. It's fantastic.

I don't know about "Riad"... I tried, you guys. Not happening.  :-\ No one was ever forced to appreciate "My World."

I love the Riad intro, but the rest of the song is average at best. That and "Scraped" are the only songs I don't love.

CD is a pretty remarkable album, although a couple more songs on the heavier side wouldn't have hurt. But that's just me.

Ever since the first crappy MP3's surfaced of Riad being played in Vegas for the first time many, many years ago, it's been one of my favorite songs and when they pretty much stopped playing live, I feared it wouldn't be on the album, so I was elated to find out that it indeed was on there. Definitely one of the best GN'R songs of the last 14 years.  ;)

Ask yourself how many original songs they have released in the past 14 years...then read my post again.

13 of them.

It's called humor. Try it sometime.

It is a lot like a U2 record, it gets better every time you listen to it.  Even my wife has said it is a more mature. (not in a bad way.) Not what she expected from Gn'R.

This is a really common theme with this album I find. Most people (including myself) weren't keen on the sound during the first waves of leaks, but it just grew and grew on you until you were able to appreciate it for what it was, and not what you wanted or expected it to be.

The same thing goes for people who have only just now heard the material. I've seen tons of haters do complete 180s and go "Wow. This album is actually really, really good. Bravo, Axl." It's really exciting to see.

I can't stop listening to it.    Especially the last 2 tracks.

I agree totally. I didn't like tracks like 'Sorry' on first listen, but now I can't get enough of them. It's a real grower of an album. All my favourite albums have been.

I honestly think (and I am biased!) that it's one of the best albums in years, and I know that if I heard it as a kid, as I did with the other albums, it would have got the same reaction in me. It's exciting and tuneful enough to have hooked me like the old albums did. A classic.

I put the widget on my facebook page...my mom is on there and she gave it a listen and thinks the album is really good...and she's in her 50's.

Yeah, the more I hear it the more I like it...unlike a VR album  :hihi:

There is so many layers of sound there each listen peels back a layer to reveal something new. True genius Axl!

i loved every song the first time i heard 'em.  i love 'em more now!  i'll love 'em even more tomorrow.  this music is simply amazing.  i have no doubt that in 20 years, music historians will look back at this album a watershed moment for rock n' roll.  i think there will be a pre-cd era and a post-cd era.

What is great about good albums in general, and CD in particular, is the diversity in opinions.

Riad and Scraped are #2 and #3 in my ranking. Riad is insane.

TWAT is #1, of course.

...the more I like what I initially thought were weak tracks (on a GnR scale; still great music by any other std.):  Scraped & Sorry.  Scraped and Sorry have really grown on me - becoming favorites (I play 1,2,3,4,8,10,13 to get me to work)...ITW remains my least favorite song on album.

at the moment i'm loving the album.

i won't however rate it for a while yet, too hyped up about having it to judge it fairly right now.

Same here: the more I listen to it I start to hear more and more of the music which is unbelievably layered.

I keep having Madagascar in my head. maybe it's because of the stuff going over in India right now.

the sign of a great album. i find songs that are immediately likeable tend to get old quickly.

its the songs that grow on you that last.

I was expecting from Madagascar, Chinese Democracy, Better to be main songs (don't get me wrong, they are great songs) but Sorry, and especially This I Love.... it really surprised me! :)
