Title: GN'R Set Myspace Record
Post by: tHeElEcTrIcSiNtAr on November 25, 2008, 11:37:30 PM
Chinese Democracy streamed more than 8.4 million times

Chinese Democracy scored a record 8.4 million streams when the album debuted on MySpace beginning midnight on Thursday, November 20 through midnight Sunday, November 23. The premiere of Chinese Democracy was the biggest promotion in MySpace's five year history, with every MySpace territory signing on to participate.

Chinese Democracy (Black Frog/Geffen Records) is available on CD and vinyl (accompanied by a free digital download of the tracks) at Best Buy and Best Buy.com in the U.S., and digitally through iTunes.

I think it just means all the countries around the world signed on to help promote it on myspace?

From Blabbermouth.net

In other news, GUNS N' ROSES' free MySpace streaming premiere of "Chinese Democracy" attracted 8,429,387 plays in its first four days on the site, more than half a million ahead of the previous record-holder, BEYONCE, after being up half the time.

 : ok:

on the radio the DJ said they were getting 25 streams per second!!!

107.5 in Vegas has been hella positive about Chinese Democracy.. playing both singles and the DJs are always saying nice things about it.

Awesome! I really think that the response has been a 21st century /cyberspace equivalent to the 91 Use Your Illusion response. There is nothing more "relevant" and "in touch" with popular culture and music than MySpace and Gnr own it right now. Some Gnr bloggers on the net are saying that the response to the release has been lackluster and solid at best, but I think it has been massive and crazy just like in 91, the masses have proven once again that their appetite for new Gnr music is insatiable. Since the release, Gnr has dominated the Internet (MySpace and iTunes) in the same way the 91 Gnr dominated the "street corners." Instead of lines of people waiting on sidewalks to surge the record stores at opening time, we witnessed record lines of people surging for the streamed album in cyberspace. Physical lines, sidewalks, and record stores = dead. Internet, cyberspace, MySpace, = reality. Gnr have moved into the 21st century and the days of kids lining up at sidewalks outside of record shops are over. (At least we can lay claim to the fact that Gnr were the last great band and musical phenomenon from that era. In many ways, the Illusion debut was the "Swan Song" to that era in old school rock/metal) Now people flood Web sites on the Internet. In my opinion, the response to Gnr has been huge. How many bands can not put out original material in over 15 years and still set online streaming records and be the top selling rock album in most of the world???? Axl still rules the world. Once the big guns (SR, Street of Dreams, Madagascar, Scraped, This I Love, etc.) hit rock radio, the album is going to rollover everything. Nothing out there can compare to the thickness and bigness of CD's sound and feel.

you think streaming it on myspace has hurt sales a bit?  I mean there was a lot of curiosity with this album and this is lost if you listen to it before you were possibly going to buy it.

When you click on Better in the myspace-player, there is new (at least to me) picture/logo that pops up.

http://www.myspace.com/gunsnroses

It's to small for me to read it.... Something about "The Chinese Democracy...."

Anyone got a larger image?

Sorry if this have answered before....
