In my opinion, this is THE ROCKER on Chinese Democracy.

It's hard, has a thumping bassline, and a kickass solo.  Tell me you don't hear a Van Halen influence at the end?

Scraped is the Jungle of the 21st century.  It will be played in stadiums and arenas worldwide as the new sports anthem.

It's the perfect song to listen to while working out.  You also listen to this song before you go out behind the bar to beat up the guy who touched your girlfriend in an inappropriate area.  After listening to Scraped, you will be convinced that you can do anything in the world.

Sometimes I feel like
There's nothing that's stopping me
All things are possible
I am unstoppable

Simple, but so powerful.

Also, I got the feeling this song used to be called "Atlas Shrugged."

Sometimes I feel like
The world is on top of me
Breakin' me down with
An endless monotony

It's excellent - but so is the whole album! It's been a long time since I've bught an album that rewards with new aspects on almost every listen!

Wow. This is my first post i ages I think. I have just heard the whole on myspace.
Can't think of all the years, hanging both here and other places, thinking about chinese democracy. Its finally here.

What a great album. Im stunned! First take on the 3 completely new songs for me after hearing 'em 1 time:
Scraped- the immediately favourite. SO powerful!
Sorry-I think this may grow on me alot. I like it after hearing it for the first time. Seems like some kind of Metallica in the instruments, I don't know, this is all to much happening to fast
This I love- so sad, so brillantly beautiful. Feels like a wanna cry.

this is going to be played a lot during the next days and years
Can't wait for the real album in my hands, have pre-ordered it from 3 different places so that I hopefully get it soon...

This song snuck up on me. At first I wasn't all that impressed but found myself humming it a few hours later. When I went back to check it out again I found out why I was humming it; there's a ton of stuff I missed. Here's another song where the intro hints at the rest of the song and keeps making an appearance throughout, cool idea. The solo on this is yet another great one, although weak at the end of it. The way Axl comes back in vocally deserves to have a bigger finish to the solo.
4/5

A grower, for sure.  First listen found me very unsure.  The harmonized vocals at the beginning took me completely off guard.  But it grew on me quickly.  Now it throbs like a giant tumor.

Am I the only one who thinks they recycled some of the melodies from Oh My God (a song that was "scraped" off CD :P?) on this one? Listen to the verses from  0:33 to 1:00 into the song.  The "sometimes I feel" part. Sounds a bit like the verses before OMG?s chorus to me.

Anyway, there?s some HIGH singing on this one. If tribute GNR bands want to add CD songs to their repertoire they will need to start carrying a helium tank around  :hihi:.

No you're definitely not the only one.  It definitely sounds similar.  I said it when I first heard the song.  There are definite elements of "Oh My God" in this song...while I didn't dislike "Oh My God"...this song is more accepting by my ears...it's a good tune...although I don't think it will ever be a single...

There is so much that I get from each song on the album...its amazing, there really is something for everyone on here so should appeal to a mass audience.

Scraped is hard adreneline driven rocker - a really good tune.
Personally i hope it is not a single as I think there are stronger songs on the album as singles but cannot wait to hear Axl scream this one live - a certain crowd pleaser

This is a great hard rocker

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there a rumoured song titled "Lies They Tell"?  I think that is one of the lyrics in this song.  I would guess that this is the song then?

As of right now, I've only listened to the song once, so I'm not even sure if I got the lyric right..

This song has good bones and good ideas, but it just doesn't come together fully for me. It gets messy after the first verse. Along with Catcher (which I loved the demo version of) this song should have really been "scraped"!

The intro could work SO WELL live!  Axl could do the A-yo parts and the crowd can call back, much like Freddie Mercury did during Queen shows.

Man, that's it!! There are some UYI moments and other new vibes there, but this is the most AFDish song on CD. At the same time there's a lot of the new band style. I can't define exactly what reminds me of AFD and neither which moment of that album. Maybe something of Mr. Brownstone or Rocket Queen (riffs), maybe the vocals of Out to Get Me. Really don't know.

I'm ok with the intro and can live with that awful nanosecond editting mistake on 1:19.
Never doubted, but listening to this song in particular I just went: "THAT'S GUNS N' FUCKIN' ROSES!!!"

Axl's vocals are even more amazing here. I just loved the way he sings in a lower tone on the majority of the pessimistic words (eg.: ...I fell my life's a catastrophe... ) and screams very high on the the optimistic part of lyrics (e.g.: sometime's I fell it's all opened up for me, nothing's impossible, I am inconquerable).

When we get closer to the chorus, this ups and downs turn faster (eg.: up: "You know you are stronger.." down: "..then the lies that they tell you").

That's a simple but still very original idea and a difficult task to anyone's voice to achieve! But that's our hero!! AXL = GENIUS!!! Nothing's impossible to him!! AMAZING!!!!

This song originally didn't stick in my head as one of my faves but I really appreciate it for what it is now. Axl's vocals are kick ass. Sometimes I feel like I am in the 80's or 90's listening to Axl in the demo of Crash Diet. I fucking love it.

The only critique I have of this song,

is the overdubbed vocals in the verse

" Dont you try to stop us now
(I'd Give anything to Know)
Dont you try to stop us now
(I would have never made it so far)

the parts in Bold are hard to hear, and just kind of sound out of place...
It would sound better "imo" if it was just the chorus without the bold. :peace:

but this song is a big grower.

There's some very strange Pitman noises in the left channel in the verse. Sort of a bubbling sound (reminiscent of that "robot having a chug" in Better ;D) which ordinarily would just sound very silly but seems to work quite well in the context of the song.

It is the rock anthem of the album. I never question Axl's genius or choices, but why the weird intro? Like everyone else said, this is the balls to the walls, classic kick ass rock anthem of the album. Why didn't he go with a kick ass, riff to open this one? Or, just start right off with the chorus? I guess, in the end, Axl knows best. I'm sure the intro will grow on me and the "big picture" will come together as it grows on me.

Anyway, it will easily be a hit on the rock stations.

I liked the song from first listen.  I found myself singing it all day yesterday.  Lots of people seem to be hating on this song (not in this thread obviously).  To each his own though.  I think it rocks!  Good point too by all those who said this could be a sports anthem.  "Don't you try to stop us now".  It doesn't get much clearer than that.

One of greatest solos on CD, albeit short.

I don't like the intro or the secondary voice he sings in-

Fucking love this song, definitley the most straightforward, upbeat rocker on the album and the most directly comparable to Appetite material. Very catchy, rocks hard, simple and effective lyrics/message, great stuff all around; and a nice break from the otherwise decidedly heavy/deep material surrounding it.

the most AFD sounding song in the disc
sleazy riff and crazy drums

Think thats about right, really got an AFD feel to it. I love the way the vocals are different on the verses, I think Scraped is one of my fav's so far.

Its my favorite rocker on the album no doubt, its aggressive, catchy and keeps me wanting for more, I played Scraped in my DJ set a week ago the song went down very well, a lot of people coming to the booth asking who it was and saying they were very impressed, getting the GN'R name out there of course ;>

I think "Axl Rose's Bicycle Basket" put it perfectly (page 1 post).

I'm really surprised that most people didn't rate this song higher on their list of favorites. I look at it as the 'It's So Easy' of Chinese Democracy. Amazing pump-me-up tune!

This sounds very strange to me. This track in particular as none of the groove that made Guns n'Roses so special. It's way too martial and robotic for my liking. All headbang, no snake dance.

This is likely my fav. track on CD. I like the vocal intro too. It got me thinking the song was going in another direction, then all of a sudden

DON'T YOU TRY TO STOP US NOW!!!

I like the aggression in Axl's voice.

See, now this is the reason why I think it's one of the weaker tracks.  Locomotive really never did much for either, because it doesn't go anywhere, much like "Scraped."  I agree though, it's a good comparison.

Different people, different likes/dislikes.....

Took awhile, but I love it..Hopefully it replaces IRS in the live set..

IRS is incredible live.  Not only was it by far the best of the new songs in a live setting, it was one of the top 2-4 songs of the night to me.  The energy and hugeness of it was hard to describe, you just have to see it first hand

As far as Scraped, I noticed something kind of cool the first time I listened on good set of headphones, the third level of vocals.  There's the high pitched "oh, oooooh" vocals, the full on screams, but beneath that are some lower vocals with Axl going "hey, heeeeeeey, hey."  It sounds pretty cool.  It's clear now every time I listen but I'd never heard it before

Scraped is cool by me.  It's kind of like the Right Next Door To Hell or Perfect Crime of CD

Apparently, Mr. Costas said, "This is Axl Rose with the new Guns N' Roses song, "Scraped."

I'd love to see the band/Axl license this song out to the NFL or something. It would be great as a marketing clip featuring season highlights from the two teams that make it to the Super Bowl (perhaps aired during the pre-game show) for example. Same would apply with the NHL playoffs as well.

How does the title "Scraped" relate to the lyrics? What am I missing?

I know this was originally titled, or registered with the copyright office, as "The Lies They Tell". Is the title on the record then a mistake? Or, what accounts for the change?

Great lyrics as usual by Axl.

For example, the lines:

Some may convince you
No one can break through
You know you?re stronger
Than the lies
That they tell you

remind me of U2's "Acrobat". Because in it one part goes And you can dream, so dream out loud, And don't let the bastards grind you down..

Both songs seem to deal with similar subjects. It could be aimed at the press, people who try to stop you from doing what you want/believe in etc.

My favorite from day one...as for 'sports anthem', it was played at the TimesUnion Center in Albany NY during River Rats (Hockey) warm ups last season...sounds awesome blasting throughout the arena.  Only part I think will hamper it becoming as prevalent a 'sports anthem' as WTTJ is the intro.  WTTJ has a much more menacing intro...I could be wrong, but I believe the  PA @ TUC skipped the 'axl with stubbed toe' intro and started right at the 'punch you in the face' drum/guitar kickoff part when the skates hit the ice.  F--king love it, no matter what.

Yeah three options I can see:

1. Get pitman to sample the background Axls, so then Axl can do 1 of the parts over the top.

2. Ignore the background parts, and have Axl just rip into a huge scream intro - similar to the famous "Do you know where the fuck you are?" thing with Jungle.

3. Forget the intro and just kick it off from the riffs....

I'd love this song live though, the lyrics sum up how I feel much of the time.

This song is unique in it's own way, in which we never heard it played live or had the title of the song rumoured before the release. I believe that it's the only song off of Chinese Democracy that we never even had any idea existed until the album release.

As soon as I heard the intro on the 20 sec (or so) album adverts, I knew I was going to love this song. They never played this song in Toronto, so I look forward to still hearing it in a live environment.  :)

The more I think about it, this song should have been the first single. Classic Axl swagger with some huge riffs, kick ass modern sounding solo, etc.  :P

oh well, no reason to cry over spilt milk.  :hihi:

Any song of the album could be a great single. This one is no exception and it would show a great hard side of the album.

I also think Scraped could make a great second song in the setlist of the shows, following Chinese. Hell, it could be an awesome begining. :)

i love the song except from the intro whaling, i think it would be better if it just started when it kicks in

Awesome song, it sure is.. the beginning reminds me a bit about, the beginning of Tool - The Pot. I know that the songs are very very different, maybe just because i am a Tool fan, and The bot also starts with Maynard singing in a whole new way...

I totaly love the live intro to this song.!

This song was absolutely badass live.  The drum intro is monstrous!  As much as I love it in its current form I would love for them to release a remix with the drum intro and maybe mix it a little more thundering and heavy.

The song is great, but it would have been great if it had that intro they do at the shows

Scraped is the song that was my least favorite on CD. But fuck me this song is one of my favorites now. Its just really positive and uplifting. I need to hear it when I have to go somewhere I don't want to. It helps me me courage.

The first time I heard this was on those 15 sec, Best Buy commercials.

I remember being so excited to hear new music. And I new this song would be a catchy one, from the sound of those overdubbed, high intro vocals.

Have always wondered if this had the working title of "Atlas Shrugged" - mainly because of the lyrics especially the "sometimes I feel like the world is on top of me" and then the bits about being stronger .  Atlas was the strong man who had the world on his shoulders .. just a thought  ?

No, Atlas Shrugged is a different song. Axl adressed something about it in his chats in 2008:

Fan: Hey Axl, is the song Atlas Shrugged as epic as the book? Who is your favorite character from the book?

Axl: Song doesn't have all that much to do with the book other than trying to do what you believe in and a line about shoulders not being wide enough.

If you havent already, check the whole thread:

And when he talked about rumored tracks:

Ides Of March, Oklahoma, Atlas Shrugged,  Oh My God, Silkworms , Down By The Ocean (Izzy), Leave Me Alone, Seven , The General , Thyme , Quick Song , Zodiac Most all titles subject to change w/out warning and r considered working titles.
