MATT SORUM To Perform With STEVIE SALAS In Toronto - Nov. 27, 2008

VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES drummer Matt Sorum will perform with guitarist Stevie Salas this Saturday, November 29 at the Sound Academy in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The three-piece band will be rounded out by Jara Slapbak on bass. According to Salas, "We will also do a song Friday night [November 28] at the Rogers Toronto Blue Jays Stadium for the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards (where Salas is up for the Best International Album award for his 'Be What It Is' effort)." The guitarist added, "I have recorded with Matt plenty of times, but Matt gettin' funky on songs like 'Born To Mack' and 'Blind' is something to see and hear! He is awesome, and as always, Jara in on point."

Salas has previously played with George Clinton and Mick Jagger, among others.

MATT SORUM With STEVIE SALAS; Video Footage From CANADIAN ABORIGINAL MUSIC AWARDS Available - Dec. 6, 2008

VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES drummer Matt Sorum performed with guitarist Stevie Salas on November 28, 2008 at the Rogers Toronto Blue Jays Stadium as part of the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards (where Salas was up for the Best International Album award for his "Be What It Is" effort). Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be viewed below (clip recorded by Doug Thomas).

Salas has previously played with George Clinton and Mick Jagger, among others.

In a recent interview with Fazer.ca, Sorum stated about his collaboration with Salas, "I've always been the kind of drummer that takes direction really well and I've worked with a lot of big producers. So he cracked the whip on me pretty good in rehearsal and I was cool with it. I think when you work in an environment like that, you need to talk to each other like that and don't take it personally; not like an ego trip, it's like, 'I wanna get this right,' you know what I mean? . . . You wanna do the best you can for the song, and I want the songs to sound as close to the record as possible. Even being the guy that stepped into GUNS N' ROSES, I tried to stay true to the original vibe of the original drummer, and it was the same in THE CULT because I had to do that with a couple of drummers that came before me. I took what I got from those original records and tried to put my own interpretation on them without making them sound too much different. So it was interesting, but then when VELVET REVOLVER came along I was able to be completely myself. The songs and the way they went down was everything that I brought to the table, because I didn't have to be representative of another drummer before me. That was really nice for me finally to be in a group where I was an original member."
