Title: The local shop on the corner (and Chinese Democracy) Post by: Rainfox on November 02, 2008, 02:31:49 AM I was at my local little record store - Skiven ("The Disc") - here at home in Denmark yesterday. First time I was in there in 16 years. We moved (back) here (about 3 miles from where I spent my childhood and teens) from Copenhagen six months ago and we're loving it - forest, beach, great areas for our son. Kindda funny being home though. It was surreal walking back in to that store. It was still there! And they were doing good. They had made it bigger and there was a huge Blu-ray rack by the counter (this is the 'sticks, so I was very impressed). The owner (a woman) wasn't there (it was her day off) and that bummed me out - man, I know her back from high school. She was the one that handed me the Appetite For Destruction LP back in 1988 (or '87?) and said: "I saved one for you. You gotta hear this stuff." The rest is history. Anyhow.. I chatted about the old days with the woman behind the counter there (who it turns out was a partner with the original owner, they were friends) and I picked up Dylan's 2CD Tell Tale Signs (Bootleg 8 - BUY IY BUY IT BUY IT). "Oh yeah, the new Guns N' Roses.. when will you get that?" She lit up, went to the drawer and pulled out this 8 page pampflet with the new G&R logo on. "Cool, can I see that?" I asked. "No," she said. "I'm sorry". HAHA! "There's all kinds of different stuff in here, prices also, I'm sorry. Bu they're very secretive and they offer up LPs and hoodies and T-shirts too." She showed me it quick. "The date is the 24. November, but we should get it on the Friday... come down.. see what we can do. It's really unorthodox with the Saturday release, so many change it to a Friday or a Monday.. I dunno.. but that's the story of this band." Priceless! Anyways.. I just wanted to share this :peace: I've ordered it from another source already, but last night I kindda thought about it in a different light. This was kindda full circle for me, no? Through all the years. I'll be down there on that Friday too now. The little shop on the corner is still there and what a strange trip it's been from Appetite to Democracy. Cheers, everyone. Title: Re: The local shop on the corner (and Chinese Democracy) Post by: Farid Bak on November 02, 2008, 02:34:04 AM you mean 24 of october right?

Title: Re: The local shop on the corner (and Chinese Democracy) Post by: Rainfox on November 02, 2008, 06:28:39 AM Yeah, it's been a trip coming back home. A wise man once said.. you can never come back home. I don't agree. Only, take it for what it is. Hardly anything will have changed. Our local coffee shop is run by the old charlatan and town 'bad boy'. What a shock! He never went beyond the city limits it seems. Him and his wife run this great little joint with organic vanilla, coffee lattes and plentiful brunch. It was like, "Oh, hi.. what.. this is your place?" I was reminded of that old Mellencamp gem Cherry Bomb: One night me with my big mouth A couple guys had to put me in my place When I see those guys these days We just laugh and say Remember when I remember exactly to the day of picking up Appetite. Holding it up. Going home (having only heard Paradise City) and putting it on.. and WTTJ starts. I think time stopped. Could be nice to go back down and pick up Democracy, come home, kiss my son and wife, put it on.. and here we go again.. 8) :peace: Title: Re: The local shop on the corner (and Chinese Democracy) Post by: russtcb on November 02, 2008, 07:10:46 AM I'd love it if some new merch came along with CD!

Title: Re: The local shop on the corner (and Chinese Democracy) Post by: Rainfox on November 13, 2008, 09:19:35 AM Just went by the shop... and ordered it 8)
I have Chinese Democracy 'ordered' through a friend who'll be attending our own little listening party on Saturday 22nd (with lots of good food and lots of fine wine hopefully), both on CD and vinyl, but since I was in the neighborhood... I stopped by. Ordered a copy of each there also. Can pick them up Friday 21st  I need a CD for both our cars anyway, and vinyl gets scratched.. so easy decision! It'll be strange and cool to walk in there Friday and pick up a copy of Democracy; the same place I first picked up Appetite. Title: Re: The local shop on the corner (and Chinese Democracy) Post by: TomFriend on November 13, 2008, 09:55:20 AM Cool story - I used to live in Denmark a few years ago. I'm pretty sure I went in there once or twice.
Title: Re: The local shop on the corner (and Chinese Democracy) Post by: The Illusionist on November 13, 2008, 10:02:33 AM That's a cool story. Let me ask some of you this...
Will it be illegal or just unlikely that a "mom and pop" local music shop won't be having Chinese Democracy in their store in America? There's this local shop down the street that literally has everything...bootlegs, rare live sessions, vinyls, etc. It's hard to imagine they won't be able to get their hands on this...that's the only reason I ask... I also ask because I'm not very "exclusive rights" savvy either as it's somewhat new to me... Title: Re: The local shop on the corner (and Chinese Democracy) Post by: Rainfox on November 14, 2008, 03:44:08 AM The BestBuy exclusive deal is only for the US. If a mom+pop store are selling Chinese Democracy next week and onwards (in the US), then that would be illegal - and deemed illegal resale (among other things) Title: Re: The local shop on the corner (and Chinese Democracy) Post by: big guns on November 14, 2008, 03:52:57 AM Yeah, it's been a trip coming back home. Also, the Jets are in first place and a new GNR record in 8 days!!! Life is delicious!!!
