Of the three, I think Shacklers is my favourite so far.   I LOVE that chorus and the contrast between that and the rest of the song.

Of those 3 songs "Chinese Democracy" is my fav for sure, followed by Shacker's then If The World

of the three "Shacklers" is by far my favorite...I love this song...more than ALOT of the old GNR stuff actually...I am also extremely pleased with how "Chinese Democracy" finally turned out....it sounds alot better than from when we first heard it back in 2001...I dont really know enough about the final version of  "If the World" to comment on it at this time..

CD, then If the world, then SR. Just not a big fan of SR the deep voice talking thing just aint for me, but its still better than the rest of the bs rock out right now for the most part.

I like them all, but IF THE WORLD is my favorite. I saw Body of Lies twice just to hear the song.

Given that I've only heard about 30 seconds of "If The World," I'd definitely go with "Chinese Democracy."

I like CD the best than SR than ITW.  Actually, I like everything I have heard off this cd (including leaks) but I don't really like ITW.  I really don't understand how anyone likes ITW.  It's just not my cup of tea. 

So is this asking which song is your favorite?

Fuck thats a tough one.   I like them all for different reasons and different moods and they are all great songs.    I think I'll wait to hear them all on the CD together to judge.

Actually, none of them.  Shackler's has a good beat and chorus but sounds weird, If The World has got some Barry White opening that I can't stand, but the lyrics and singing are good, and Chinese Democracy has great vocals, but feels like it's missing something.  I'm surprised GNR opened up with these songs compared to what they have on tap.

Me tooo!  like em all for different reasons, love "democracy" for the intro/lyrics/chorus   "shacklers" for the fucking awesome solo and "if the world" cos its growing on me very very quickly

I think this is going to be the kind of album where all the songs connect on different levels.   I love all these songs and its really hard to pick favorites.    Thats really rare to find in an album.

Shackler's Revenge  :love:,surprise that it's not the single to promote the album, raw and rock as YCBM, chinese democracy it's so epic and too often pass for radio.

Music is awesome, Axl's vocals are top notch, great lyrics and the fucking demons marching out of hell HOOMPH HOOMPH HOOMPH sound before the guitar solo is just scary and brilliant.

"Chinese Democracy" by far. I've always loved the song since I heard the live version from Rio and the finished version is amazing. I'm not really feeling "If The World" and "Shackler's" much, I think "Shackler's" is my least fav of the 3 though, I hate the solo (Sorry BBF) and the chorus, whilst good, is repated a bit too much for my liking, I was kinda hoping it was an RB2 exclusive and wouldn't take a space on the CD, i'm sure Axl has a much better hard rocking track in the vault.

I'll always have a soft spot for Chinese Democracy as it was always one of my favourites back in 2002. Always thought it'd make the perfect first single : ok:

They're all unique.  I think If The World, is a really different song, but just as awesome  : ok:

I like If The world followed by Shacklers Revenge, then Chinese Democracy.

I think it's still a bit too early to include If The World. Out of the two complete official releases, I would go with Chinese Democracy

Out of those 3, it's tough, but probably Shackler's. It's not what you'd expect from Axl, and I like that.

For me, these three are not my "big guns."  Out of the 3 I'd have to say I dig CD the most.  ITW and SR are different sounds that I might develop a bigger appreciation for in the future.

CD has the best lyrics and Ron's guitars during the verses are mean

Shackler's has a pretty amazing pre-chorus/chorus and the solo plus the rhythm section during the solo is insane

If The World has a really cool, melodic and mellow vibe to it.  Classy, hypnotic song

without any hesitation, shackler's revenge. too bad it's not the (first) single.
it would have surprise a lot of people. it's much more exciting to listen than
chinese democracy, an average song to me (good intro for the album, but
not a perfect single). if the world, well, is interesting because it shows another
musical direction of the band, but i'm not fond of the whole thing.

Im a big fan of Chinese Democracy. I think this song rocks soo hard. And you also have to listen to it a couple of times, and it get better and better. I remember when i heard it live in Oslo. One hell of a experience! Shackler is also very very good. It has the same attitude as Chinese Democracy. And just rocks the hell out of you. If the world, i dont know yet... But i sure like it. Very different, and want to listen to it from the album to get the right sound..

IMO...shackler's is just a poor song.  Album filler at best. 
Chinese democracy is ok it's not a bad song but there's absolutely nothing amazing about it and i'm very surprised (and disappointed) it's the first single knowing what else they have on tap.  it's too bad because most of the comments i've heard so far are in the vein of "it took X years to come up with that???"

If the world i'll withhold final judgement on but I really like the song.  It doesn't sound like anything else we know of GNR and i'd almost say that would make for a better single because it would get people curious about what the rest of the album sounds like.

I have a feeling though that Axl went with CD because it's a straightforward guitar rocker and he probably wanted to put the myths that he has been making a "techno" album to rest once and for all.

Still very excited about the album I just think it's a shame that 2 of the weakest tracks (IMO) are the first ones to hit the public.

Shakler'ss revenge would've been my favorite if it wasn't for the fact that the vocals are drowned by the rest of the instruments... I end up pumpin up the volume to listen to the vocals... and it hurts my ears...  :-\


my favorite is Chidem/...but I love the groove of if the world...


all of them are good, but nothing like there was a time which is mind blowing..

I think GNR made a mistake  when they released a single without a video !

That is why metallica's getting more airplay...
There was a time with a video would've blown everyone away from the start.

I like all three songs, we just need more so the GNR vibe may be well seeded. I like what I hear and the texture is great

If The World is a nice song but not a rocker song

Shackler's Revenge is a rocker song more power to it and axl dose his best at this song

I haven't heard those other two songs yet (not into video games, or thriller movies--though I'd check the later out if it came near me). But Chinese Democracy is great. Most people on these boards have known Chinese Democracy for 7 years--and they still like it. A lot. I first heard it Jan 1 2001 and I've probably listened to the official stream 40 times.  So, for a song that was a 'weak sister' compared to the Blues and Madagascar back in '01, I think it's held up very well.

I like it as a single, too, because it is absolutely not what you'd think a single should be. Any first single that has a minute and a half intro, no hooks, no "big chorus", oddball political lyrics about masturbation etc strikes me as absolutely uncompromising. Love it or shove off.

I guess I'd say If the World, Chinese Democracy, Shackler's, though none of them blow me away.
Chinese is a rock'n tune, which is nice since rock seems pretty dead these days. Lyrics are okay, but certainly not up to par with Axl's back catalogue.
I think If The World is the most interesting of the three. It's like nothing I've heard before. I'm not in love with it, but I like it. Some impressive axe work.
I can't get over how much I hate Shackler's Revenge. It's just a bad techno pop song from hell in my opinion. Lyrically and musically does nothing for me. Only positive is Axl's voice.
In the end, it's a bit ironic as these are the 3 songs I like the least of everything I have heard, leaked and live.
If I had only heard these 3 songs, and not had the benefit of hearing the leaks and seeing them perform some new songs live, I may not even buy the new album.
The main reason being that GNR has been one of my favorite bands is Axl's lyrics could be held up to the all time greats, but these songs do not make the cut. I listen to the old material, and still to this day find something I hadn't heard, or caught before in the lyrics, especially on the Illusions. These 3 songs are very cookie cutter. Luckily for me, I've heard Better and The Blues, which dispel the notion that Axl isnt still capable of penning a good tune.

Shackler's Revenge is the best of the 3 imo.  The song I first heard on youtube, so i decided to actually buy rockband2 to check it out, and now I am addicted to Rockband 2, Its one fo my favorite songs to sing on the game, the contrast between chorus / verse is incredible, Nothing against CD, but they should of maybe thought about putting out Shackler's as a B side to CD, I know they dont do alot of that anymore, but its a great song on Rockband 2, and not everyone has that game and I think its a song that both original GnR and New GnR fans can find something to like about it.

If The world followed by Shacklers Revenge, then Chinese Democracy. I've not been a fan of Chinese Democracy since I heard it nearly 8 years ago. Good to hear them on the radio but I think they have a song which is much Better

Far and away, If The World is number 1 for me.  CD is #2, and Shackler's is third.

I don't get what the big deal about Shackler's is.

It is a awesome title, groovy, and Axl fucking rules in this song.

Who is singing underneathe Axl in the song? Not sure who that is.

1. "shackler's revenge": very cool song. love the solo and the guitars. chorus has a strong hook. prechorus sounds like franz ferdinand gone metal...

2 "if the world": wasn't sure at the beginning. the "lalala"-part is sweet. so is the solo. i dig the funky, groovy feel of the song. only problem is - i mentioned that before - axls voice right after the intro is a little shrill. that's ok, once the heavier guitars are added second time that part (the refrain/chorus) comes. they should have  taken that for the new james bond...  ;)

3. "chinese democracy": all in all ok, but there's a bit too much going on. bumbles guitars are great; the one sound in the chorus after the intro ("boohh") is out of place imo. still have to get used to axl doubling the vocals all the time. well, i like the song from the first verse on. up to that point i think it's a little too affected and too hard trying to be special.

1. Shackler's is unbelievable, can't wait to hear the final mix. Don't think for a second its the same as Rockband 2's.  2. If The World is like no rock song i've ever heard, the new mix sounded totally different in the theater than the demo, much stronger and harder with a new beat. 3. Chinese rocks hard, easy 4 chord rocker with great vocals, solo's, guitar work and final production.

Shacklers - Sound effects irritate me, dont really care for the drum or guitars but like Axls vocal melodies.

If The World - Love the beat, bass, and funky guitars. The solo is stings like GN'R solos of old, I would love such a classic tone to be used on Madagascar big solo. Axls vocals dont do much for me, but I can apprieciate the simplicity of the song and its cool to hear a song thats obviously been the guys messing around jamming and coming up with funky wee song.

CD  - I always liked it, I always liked the way Axl sung it and it seemed to have a contemporary sound, from the guitars to the drums. Honestly I preferred the way it sounds on live versions, as good as it is the single does seem a little cluttered. But I still get a mega kick out of hearing it on the radio. I cant wait to buy the single and put it in my stereo to really judge how that versions sounds, the demo sounds amazing and I still crank it.

I love CD, kicks ass...great to hear new stuff on the radio.  Heard Shacklers in RB, 5 Stars (of 5), but totally different than what I would expect from GnR...both would be near the top of my GnR playlist...and If The World - what little I heard at the end of BOL - was OK - 3 of 5.

I love them all of course.  I haven't listened to SR or ITW since the 11/23 rumors started to really pick up, so for now I'd put CD first, followed by SR and ITW.  But when Shackler's came out, and before CD came out it was probably 1) Shacklers, 2) If The World, 3) Chinese Democracy.  It varies.

Chinese Democracy in a landslide. I think it's really cool that they chose that as the lead single. Musicaly and lyrically it dwarfs the other two.

If the World musically could have been on Faith No More's King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime, one of my all time favorite albums. You could totally hear Mike Patton singing those lyrics, even Axl's phrasing is a little Patton-esque. Which isn't to say that I think Axl is ripping Patton, I mean that as a total compliment, he really came out of left field with this song.

Agreed.  If The World is quite different from anything GNR has ever done.  I thought the same about Shackler's too though.  I know some compare it to Oh My God, but the first time I heard it I was quite surprised.  Chinese Democracy is the closest of the three to vintage GNR, which probably is one reason why they chose to use it as the lead single.

I'd rather hear SR.  Maybe because I don't like ITW and have been listening to CD for 7 years.

Shackler's has been growing on me as the days go by.. It rocks.. Love to drive and play it very f... loud
