Title: Who Will Interview Axl Rose? The Fans? Post Your Question...
Post by: gcluskey on October 24, 2008, 04:28:53 PM
What would it take to get to interview Axl Rose. What questions would you ask him? Axl doesn't trust a lot of the media. I'd love to see a true GnR fan take a list of questions compiled by other fans and put the questions to him. If you could add a question to the list for this interview, what would your question be? You never know, we might make this happen  :smoking:

The media isn't usually fair to Axl, which may be why he doesn't talk to them often.

I figure Axl will talk to his fans thru his own means or possibly thru someone like Del James.

Maybe Jarmo?  ;D

Yeah, I nominate Jarmo!! We could have a thread where we each post one question to ask Axl, and Jarmo goes through and chooses the best ones to use in the interview.

It would be cool if we could post a question and send it off to Axl, instead of him coming online  like bumblefoot did. That way he wouldnt have to suffer the bile of people who just want to attack him just because slash isnt in the band anymore.

My choice would be Howard Stern.  He really does have excellent interviewing skills.

Axl can (and will) do whatever he wants though.

Personally, I can't picture an interview taking place.  :peace:

I think it would be interesting to see Kurt Loder interview Axl on a GN'R/Axl/Chinese Democracy special one hour program on MTV.  :)

A interview? It would never happen I don't think.

I would love to get one though.

Maybe Conan could do one? Or Jimmy Fallon he likes Axl.

I would love a hour interview with Axl, would be great!

With Conan and Fallon or any of these other late night morons, your not going to get a serious interview I think. It's going to be one stupid wise crack after another. Axl will get a five to ten minute segment and than it will be onto some asinine skit. That's why I think Kurt Loder would be a good choice. You could count on a good interview with him.

I could never interview Axl.  I would forget how to talk, and possibly how to breathe.

There would be too many questions, too many ways to pose them, and too many internal questions as to how best to ask.  My mind would implode.

Might be entertaining for him to watch though........

And of course, the most important thing to remember--- Don't Piss off the Axl!!!

I'm not suggesting fan questions for the definitive Axl Rose interview, but just for a little interaction and fun. I could see Axl be more interested in just putting out a little for supporters in a low key fashion than giving an interveiwer the platform to ride on his coat tails.

LOl Always love your comments LittleFly!
And my vote is for Kurt Loder. I know there are probably a lot of reporters out there that could pull it off. But Kurt has already proved himself with Axl. So thats works for me.

No offense to Jarmo, Del, or even Kurt Loder, but how about someone who has an impressive track record for fair and objective reporting, an impressive and long history of journalistic integrity, and who garners tremendous respect in the industry?

David Fricke gets my vote.

I like Stern, but I don't think he'd be a good choice.   He'd be more likely to focus on questions about slash and bullshit Axl would likely rather not talk about.

My top 3:
1. Jarmo
2. Eddie Trunk
3. Kurt Loder

 :peace:

That's a good call... I think Baz would do a good job and get the most revealing information out of Axl (b/c Axl seems so comfortable with him) w/o steering into forbidden territory. That said- he unfortunately has acquired a bit of a reputation as an Axl "fan boy"- so who knows how "legitimate" it would be viewed as by the general rock fan public. It would still be a great interview though...

best interview ever of anybody.

I want someone to ask the hard questions and not just lob the softball by the number questions. I'd love a real in depth interview like in the RIP magazine "I Axl" thing.

(That's for all the fans recommending people who can try and squeeze things out of the man.)

I'd like to ask Axl questions about his vocal work. How did he learn to do that high pitched wail? When did he discover he had this rock n roll voice? How did he feel about his live vocals when he first started making his return? His raspy voice came back during the 2006 tour, what methods did he use to achieve this? Does he wake he ever wake up the day after a gig and croak?

i know it wouldn't be very in depth, but i think the band should perform on a late night show like Conan or Kimmel and then sit down and talk a little about CD and the new band.  Even though Axl and the name Guns N Roses are still huge, its like there starting over again.  I think they need to do things like this to introduce the new band and start bringing in a whole new era and age of fans.

I like the idea of him on Jimmy Kimmel, but I think that should happen first and about a week before the CD is released, an interview with Kurt Loder on a MTV special that would be more in depth.  Kurt's interviewed him before.  I think as far as reporters go, Kurt as always seemed like he treats people with respect no matter the situtation or the person.  I also think it would be best to have a sit down interview with Axl, but also show him in the studio going through some of the songs from the new album and explaining them.  I think Axl would be more interested in focusing on the album than anything too personal.

I think a lengthy interview should be posted on a need-to-register section of the new website when it launches, so that those who want it badly enough, can watch/read it. As a fan, I like exclusive material.

My first question would be, "how does the end result compare to what you had in mind when you started the project?".

Kurt Loader would only be good because Axl feels comfortable with him and would be good to promote the album. Eddie Trunk may be good. Howard Stern would ask some interesting stuff and would make him answer some of those uncomfortable questions. I would like someone to ask him some in depth questions and not ask him the little softball questions about how amazing he is and how every song on CD kicks ass.

I would want to know where did the direction of the music come from? Was it his vision all along? Was it influenced by the new members?

Where did he get the ideas and inspiration for each song on CD?

Are the rumors of 4 albums worth of material true? If so, are those songs finished and when will they be released?

How was the writing process for CD different than past GNR records. Who contributed he most? Which member inspires him to write the most now and before?

Did you go through a depression? If so what happened? If not how did you manage to stay out of the spotlight for so many years?

Why did so many people come and go? Creative differences? Personality conflicts? Lack of Patience? Not talented enough?

How would he compare the line up in 2000 to the current line up? What is different?

When you perform on stage with this line up, what is the vibe? How does it differ from the past? What is different?

Do you feel this is a band or that you have hired the best musicians in the business?

Why did he change his style from wearing Jerseys to his current look?

Is he ever going to take off the braids?

Is it true he was taking guitar lessons? Are there any songs where he plays guitar himslef?

What was the meaning of round one at the end of the MTV video awards? When is round two coming?

What music does he like to listen too these days?

Have you listened to VR? If so what are his thoughts? Do you like any songs in particular?

Did Slash really go to your house? Why did you not want to see him?

How come you still talk to Izzy and not the rest of the guys?

What happened with Paul Tobias?

Has he seen BH withouth a mask?

Are you still friends with Ricky Rackman?

What is his relationship with the current band members? Working? Social? Do you guys hang out? How does the relationship differ from the relationship he had with the original members when they were working together?

Have any of the new members had any drug issues?

Have you stopped smoking? Do you still do any drugs even if recreational?

What do you do after a show? Where do you go and what do you do?

Does material exist which was recorded by Slash Duff and Matt before they left? Where is it? What will be done with it?

What is going on with his love life? Dating any hot Models? Was Stephanie Seymour his last serious relationship? If not who and what happened? Does he want kids? Does he know Slash & Duff have kids?

Any plans for a DVD of the tour or the making of CD?

The infamous reunion question? Is there a possibility for the R&R HOF to reunite with the original members? What would it take to quash the rift between him and the former members? Does he have a rift with other people who were involved and did not stick around to the end like BH, Josh Freese, Paul Tobias, etc.?

Finally does he ever visit this forum? Have you ever heard of Jarmo?

'60 Minutes.'

Seriously.

The show is still watched by millions of people every Sunday night, especially after NFL football.

I'm not saying Andy Rooney should interview Axl or anything, but there could always be a guest journalist to do it. Seeing that Viacom owns both CBS and MTV, maybe somebody like Kurt Loder could conduct the interview.

It's an opportunity to reach a larger television audience, and a broader age group. I'm turning 38 this coming Sunday, and hey, I watch 60 Minutes from time to time. I haven't watched MTV for anything since the 'Jackass' days.

'60 Minutes'!!!

I have no clue whether he respects this site or not, but I do not think he likes the internet much. He considers the net a "garbage can" because of all the BS on it. Im guessing he has plenty of things to do and I wouldnt think he would be reading gnr fan sites, but I have no personal knowledge of that.

Thank you. It was questions I was looking for. Going to compile all of these

Some of those questions are the kind of stuff I'd expect to see on gossip sites.

 :nervous:

Not necessarily stuff any real fan would want to see in a major interview.

I like Kurt Loder as an interviewer.  He's professional, unbiased, and asks the questions people generally want to know the answers to.

But if it's him, can we at least get the interview on a network that people might actually watch?

No offense to Jarmo, Del, or even Kurt Loder, but how about someone who has an impressive track record for fair and objective reporting, an impressive and long history of journalistic integrity, and who garners tremendous respect in the industry?

David Fricke gets my vote.

This. You need someone who will be fair but also ask the tough questions.

Here's my Top 10 questions I would ask Axl

1. What does it feel like finally releasing Chinese Democracy ?

2. Why did it take so long to be released ?

3. How do you feel being back in the spotlight in a age of hip hop and pop music ?

4. What was your most diffcult time in the last 13 years ? how did you cope with building Guns N' Roses back from stratch.

5. Do you plan on touring in 2009 ?

6. What's your favorite song on Chinese Democracy ?

7. How did you accquire the services of Andy Gould, Irving Azoff ?

8. How do you feel about Slash ? have you read his book ?

9. Is Robin Finck still a member of Guns N' Roses

10. In 10 years what do you want Guns N' Roses to be known for ?

More than anything I would like to know what was Axl's motivation/inspiration/drive to get this record completed.  The fact that this record is even completed is amazing considering all the obstacles we know that Axl has had to go through to complete it..not to mention any obstacles that we are NOT aware of.  I would really love to get his insight on the creative process over the past 14 years...I dont like to bring up ex-members but I would really love to hear HIS input as to what went down with Slash and Duff, not because I want to dwell on the past, quite the opposite, I would like to know how those events impacted Axl and helped shape GNR's present AND future...  I would like to know if he felt betrayed by them for walking away(people forget THEY are the ones who left).  I would also love to hear some details about how he put together this band that we all know and love, and what he looked for in the new members..I say "new" but most of these guys have been around for the better part of a decade.  I guess I would just really love to hear Axl's side of everything..The fact that Axl has been able to soldier on and deliver a new Guns N Roses record to the fans is truly awesome, I would just like to hear what drove him and kept him motivated all these years.

Do you know what he said more or less?
After 'Mr. Brownstone,' Axl questions the crowd, "Hey is uh... I don't know if I... I say it right. Do you pronounce the 'J'? How about 'Here today, gone to Belgium' for Jarmo!"
(gnrontour.com, the best source for this kind of information!)

Here's my question...

You have been known to have a wide-array of musical preferences, everything from Public Enemy to Nine Inch Nails... who are you currently listening to? Are these artists/bands contributing to the sound of CD or future projects?

Good point. Let's take all questions for now and edit them down later. Hopefully we can compile a good list of decent questions and forward them to the right people and maybe get someone to ask Axl some of them

Larry King for credibility and straight talk.

But more likely to see Kurt Loder.

For fucking hell of it, have Izzy interview him.  It'd be more relaxed, and honest.

I'd like to ask him if he remembers anything about the Glasgow gig in Scotland, or if it just blended the other nights in the UK tour? It was special to us because it was the first GN'R gig ever as well as a fantastic performance. It must be difficult to remember what show was what when you go on tour.

My choice would be Howard Stern.  He really does have excellent interviewing skills.

Axl can (and will) do whatever he wants though.

Personally, I can't picture an interview taking place.  :peace:
Stern would be the best.  That's more of a rock n' roll show, with a rock n' roll audience.  And he doesn't ask the same old tired questions.  He's handled Scott Weiland and Slash well in the past without bashing the other, so even though I'm sure there'd be questions about Slash I think he could find a way to not offend Axl.  He's usually real respectful to his guests despite his tough line of questioning.  It would all be up to Axl though, not sure he'd want to go through with it.  I really can't see him or the band on Leno or Letterman.  Maybe Kimmel, at that outdoor stage for a performance.  Kurt Loder, if he even works for MTV anymore, would be good.  He'd get more of the technical stuff, and Axl has a history with him.  Whereas Stern would be asking Axl about the chicks he's banged over the years, which sometimes can be a stress reliever.  He might rather talk about that than Slash, and Howard would gladly go there.

My vote would be for Stern.  It'll be interesting to see where this goes.  He's gotta talk to someone at sometime, right?

Please, Larry King is the worst.  I can see Axl walking out on Larry's interview because he'd ask too many questions about Slash.  To boot, Larry is clueless when it comes this kind of stuff.  Some of his interviews are just embarrasing to watch.  A good choice would be someone that can speak intelligently to Axl because they've done their research.  David Fricke is the right man for print.  Although I must admit, to the person above that mentioned Oprah, that would be very interesting to watch!

Holy shit! That's quite the list!

Jarmo I took out that question. So hopefully this will not be deleted.

A lot of shit happens in 1 year of anyone?s life... a ton of shit has happened in 17 years of Axl's life, GNR, the music world, and a the people who have come and gone in his life. As fans we love to know as much as we can about the celebrities you admire.

There are many other things I left out that I would like to know. Some are music related, some personal.

The problem I see with any interview that Axl will give is that I am sure he will demand to see the questions he is asked before the interview to make sure there no surprises. So everything will be nice and boring.

Aside from the questions I posted before I would like to ask:

There have been a million rumors in the past of when CD was coming out. Was there one particular reoccurring reason as to why it would be postponed or delayed or where there different reasons every time? What was it or what were they? Was it management, members, the record company, you?

What Deal does GNR have currently with the label? Do you have any obligations or commitments left on your contract for future albums (if so how many) or will CD fullfil the last commitment? Did you put any of your money into CD? If so how much? How did you get the record label to support this album for 17 years? Was there ever a threat to drop you from the label? How did you get around that? How much money was actually spent on the album? Who was pressuring you to complete this album? Why?

At the end did you feel you rushed to complete CD or do you feel when it was finished you were given all the time you needed? Looking back what would you have done differently to speed up the process if anything? Will there be another GNR album after CD? If so do you anticipate it will take another 17 years? Do you think it is possible for you to complete an album in 1 or 2 years? If so what needs to happen?

What are you expectations with CD? How many copies do you think will sell? It is highly unlikely that in today?s world CD could outsell AFD or  the UYI records not because of the quality of music but because of downloading etc. How many copies need to sell for you to be happy? How many copies need to sell to make the record label happy? How many copies need to sell to make a profit?  Is this your best work? If so why? How is this album different than the rest? What is your favorite song on the record, and why? What is your favorite song you have ever written, and why?

Are you going make any videos? Will they be epics like DC, NR, estranged, or just regular videos like WTTJ, SCOM, etc.

What is going on with the lawsuit pertaining to the GNR name? Has it been resolved? If the case is not resolved are Slash and Duff entitled to royalties under the GNR entity if they are still considered owners of the name with you.

What does GNR mean to you? Has the meaning changed over the years? If so in what way? Will it continue to change? Who is GNR? Is Izzy GNR? Slash? Steven? Matt? BH? Frank? Is Robin GNR or NIN?

Your voice sounds different from 2000-2008. Your voice now seems more like the pitch and range we have always heard. Did something change or was it that your pipes were a little rusty, or perhaps stage freight from not performing in front of large audiences in a long time?

What is the fascination with crosses about? Is it a religious thing or a fashion statement? Who designed the necklace and cross you are always wearing these days? Does it have a special meaning? How much did it cost?

When you released Oh My God, was GNR ready to release CD or other material at that time or was that never the plan at that stage?

How did the Las Vegas New Years show come about? What was the status of the band and material which you had written? Why do this show and not tour or release material at this stage. Was it a warm up show or practice to see people's reaction to the new members, or trying to get everyone?s feet wet? Slash tried to get into that show because he wanted to see the band from a fans perspective, but was not let in. Do you know anything about that or did you have anything to do with it? If so why not let him in? Would you let him in now or would you be opposed to letting him and other former members from watching a GNR show?

Do you regret getting the AFD cross tattoo on your forearm? You once said (paraphrasing) I will never regret this tattoo because it is a symbol that will remind me of a specific time in my life, of what was going on where I was and the people in it. Will you get a new tattoo symbolizing this stage of your life? If so what will it be? If not why not? What new tattoos have you gotten?

You will have millions of supporters and sell out concerts around the world, but there will always be critics about the music and the new members, do you ignore them, do they bother you, or do you engage them?

You also have fans that are very supportive of whatever you do. Fans that have stuck with you through everything. However, you also have fans that are supportive of this band but are still loyal to the original members as well as you. Do you ever consider putting your differences aside with the former members for the sake of some of those fans to one day perform again together for the fans? Although it may be difficult to put bygons aside and swallow pride... is that too much for the fans to ask from you?

Finally, if there is no reunion for the time being will you perform with original members at the RRHOF?
