Title: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: SINSHINE on October 22, 2008, 02:16:39 PM Would be a great treat to the fans and members of this board (ah, what the hell...mygnr.com too) if the band allowed for a midnight streaming listening party to be held here on HTGTH the night before CDs release.
Any chance of this happening, Jarmo? Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: duga on October 22, 2008, 02:17:59 PM Or a HTGTH party in Stockholm! : ok:
Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: Silverchair on October 22, 2008, 02:18:38 PM I don't think so. Streaming the album for free??
Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: pilferk on October 22, 2008, 02:20:23 PM I don't think so. Streaming the album for free?? I'd be in. Even if they charged us a couple bucks (or if jarmo needed to charge a few bucks to off set costs on bandwidth for it). Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: SINSHINE on October 22, 2008, 02:21:59 PM Why...you mean to tell me that if someone copied the stream that you'd download THAT as your 'listening copy' of CD? The stream will certainly not be anywhere near as accurate/true as the CD/vinyl themselves.
Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: Silverchair on October 22, 2008, 02:24:17 PM it's not just the bandwidth... unless over the years Jarmo's relationship with Axl and crew has gotten to be ironclad... the band needs to authorize it. That ain't gonna happen. I would love to see it. HTGTH is one of the reasons so many people kept the faith/loyalty going. Once again... Jarmo is the fucking man. :peace:

That ain't gonna happen. I would love to see it. HTGTH is one of the reasons so many people kept the faith/loyalty going. Once again... Jarmo is the fucking man. :peace: Obviously. But we've seen that jarmo is relatively KNOWN to management. They did the hammerstein pre-show through him, mostly. I don't think a listening party would be much harder to manage....it's essentially the same thing (password distribution) if done right. I'm not saying it'll happen...but it's not an awful, unworkable, idea, either. Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: divoz on October 22, 2008, 02:40:13 PM Yeah if any site could pull that off it would be this one, and yeah it would be unreal and would be a treat to all us gunners who've waited damn near 10 years for this day, but i guess alot goes with it and i can't see it being allowed :S
Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: mcalldp on October 22, 2008, 02:45:30 PM I think it's a great idea and don't see any big deal streaming it a few hours before release. Everyone on this site is going to buy copies (probably multiple copies actually) so no loss in sales or anything and it would be a great grass-roots promotion thing for the die hards to sink their teeth into as a kind of reward for sticking by all these years.
Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: SINSHINE on October 22, 2008, 03:22:01 PM I just figured if so many of us stayed up countless hours on this site simply for updates on live shows that were in other parts of the world...why not celebrate the release of the album all at once.
Of course, we'd have to prep empty threads for each song and we'd need to restrain ourselves from posting until each and every song (in album order) is played. Take the idea a step further...local members of HTGTH could meet up at designated areas (much like we did before the '06 shows...Mustang Harry's, ect.) and participate in the online stream together. IDK...just running off at the mouth now. Too excited to make much sense right now :hihi: Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: Pine Barrens on October 22, 2008, 03:27:26 PM That's actually not a bad idea...
Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: shadyklyde on October 22, 2008, 05:25:49 PM a listening party would be cool, but i think id rather have it in my hands and just crank it from the cd and not from a stream.

This is a great idea but maybe we can hold it on a Saturday one week after? I know that would be after the CD release but we need to do something as a group especially a group that has waited for so long. God - I can't believe it's finally here!
Any other ideas of ways to celebrate with the whole HTGTH audience? Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: Axl4Prez2004 on October 22, 2008, 06:16:41 PM I am looking forward to the ultimate listening party at the next pre-show gathering. I've met some amazing fans here at HTGTH and at the '06 shows. I'm looking forward to meeting everybody in '09! The album is going to be amazing!!!
I can't wait for Guns to tear the roof off of MSG.     Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: doooodickiebr on October 22, 2008, 07:11:11 PM i remember metallica did a listening party in an arena right before the black album. seemed like everyone had a great time! i's fly anywhere to be at a gnr release party!
Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: Giant_Robot on October 22, 2008, 07:12:01 PM I was thinking we could do this for a bit of fun:
25.10.08 - Appetite/Lies Day 1.11.08 - Illusion Day 8.11.08 - Spaghetti Day + Sympathy For The Devil 15.11.08 - Live Era Day 22.11.08 - Oh My God Rules: Your only allowed too listen to the album or song on the day that been listed: Example 1.11.08: is Illusion Day, therefore you can only listen to Use Your Illusion 1 or 2 etc Sign if you want to take part :) :peace: Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: TomFriend on October 22, 2008, 07:18:49 PM It would be nice if we could all hear this together. We've waited together, after all.
Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: The Dog on October 22, 2008, 07:24:19 PM Very cool idea. I hope they can make it happen.

I hope so. :):: Vicente :: Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: vicente on October 22, 2008, 11:16:14 PM Well, who can organize it? I was at last years' party in Sao Paulo, to celebrate AFD 20th anniversary - by the way, I was the only one wearing a kilt, hehe.
It was a great party. Could this one be something like that? :: Vicente :: Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: Scabbie on October 23, 2008, 01:19:43 AM I am up for a party in London, maybe on the Saturday following the release if anyone is interested

We could chat about the new songs even though it will happen before, it will be while we are all listening at the same time. Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: NEWportTimbo on October 23, 2008, 09:26:41 PM FYI-
I am in Orange County California, would love to meet up with some folks either in LA or local to have some drinks before we begin Chinese Democracy! Anyone in LA or OC, hit me up! Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: SINSHINE on October 24, 2008, 11:06:28 AM First and foremost...I think it should be web-based and we would certainly need permission (not to mention the tracks) for the stream from the band.
Jarmo...haven't seen you respond. Any interest in hosting this? Worth it to investigate? Perhaps use a different site altogether and give HTGTH members passwords to access it. I really think we should all be enjoying the album in it's entirerty for the first time as a community  Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: wadey on October 24, 2008, 02:46:29 PM I really think we should all be enjoying the album in it's entirerty for the first time as a community  sounds cool.................. just as long as its about 8pm uk time :hihi: Title: Re: HTGTH Listening Party Post by: Bruno Poeys on October 24, 2008, 03:54:49 PM Well, who can organize it? It was the Rio de Janeiro girls...
But I think people we'll do it on our board in some locations (like Northeast, Rio, Sampa and some others). The country is way too big to focus in just one place. |
