Title: For those so inclined, how are you celebrating the CD release date?
Post by: pilferk on October 22, 2008, 01:38:09 PM
I've just cracked a nice icy cold Dr. Pepper (I'm working...so anything more illicit is out until my work day is done).

What are you all doing?

What are you all doing?

Do you mean in general (I've just cracked a nice icy cold Dr. Pepper) or when the bloody thing actually hits shelves?

Right now I'm feeling ah... and when I pick up the album I'll have a few beer (that's plural, locally) and listen to it all by my lonesome.

Were we friends in a past life?

I know..the topic name sucks donkey balls.

I mean "How are you celebrating the Press Release that came out today announcing an official release date showing that the arrival of Chinese Democracy is official, and imminent".

But what the fuck...we can talk about what you're gonna do the day the album is released, too.  Works for me.

I'm gonna head to BB EARLY (I'm assuming no midnight opening) and see if we can't get a bunch of GnR fans together in one place at the same time for a few hours prior to release.

Then, I'm gonna come home, send the kiddies over to grandma's house (for those thinking that makes me a bad parent....the kids go to Grandma's for the day just about EVERY Sunday..she lives approx 75 yards from our house), and blast the music at dangerously loud levels with some friends, drink some beers, eat some pizza, and have a little party (which is NOT a typical Sunday).

:)

Many peeps coming over. Cracking open a bottle of Canadian Club whiskey that's been sealed since 1951 for this!

I'll take that as a no. But what the fuck, you were friendly enough in your edit. It's all good. GNR fans, ultimately. Right?

I don't know, we may have been (friends in a past life).  I have issues with remembering past life regressions, so...  :)  Eh, who am I kidding...I sometimes have trouble remember last month.

I was actually being sefl depracating in my first response....I knew when I posted it that the title sucked but I couldn't think of a way to phrase it better and still keep it short enough for the board software.  That's why I went all long winded and shit.  No worries.

I am gonna buy at least two maybe three copies ( one for my car, the house and maybe one for the wife's car in case we go somewhere and I don't wanna listen to crap) and then I am gonna crank the piss out of it while cruising down some windy roads in my BMW!  Life will be good!

I was thinking about hosting a party at my place and buying each of my guests a copy of Chinese Democracy. I'll be inviting more or less 20 people, so that makes 23 copies - at least - that I'm gonna have to buy.

I may even make each person sing a GNR line if they want to come in. It'd be like some kinda password to get it, don't want to sing? there's the road.

Oh...and I may even get drunk as well for the first time in 7 years. So, yeah, it'll definitely be an special night.

No, no worries.

For the record though, I wasn't fooling around. To me there was ambiguity in both the title and your Dr. Pepper remark. Sorted though.

And Iggy, if you throw in a plane ticket with the album, I'm there. ;)

A quick look shows 400's been shattered before. Mostly in '06 it looks like. I saw 7** there somewhere.

The press release dropped while I was out shopping for groceries. I forgot to buy the bottle of Dr Pepper I had planned to mark the single release, and now the stores are closed, so no soda for me today.

As for release day, a wine and cheese party with the girlfriend is still the plan.

honestly today is the first day after 5 months that i regret quiting drugs.
i had been dreaming for years about rolling a joint and then listening to official new gnr :smoking:

as far as 11/23 goes since i will be moving to LA shortly i imagine going to a nearby best buy and
then sitting at home alone listening to CD. It could be better but right now i cant ask for more :peace:

When I get the CD, I'm going to listen to it all day. Then Thanksgiving weekend, I'm going to invite some true fans over and celebrate the release of this magnificant beast with a bottle of Makers Mark, maybe two and listen to it for several hours all over again. Not that I won't be listening in between. I may even make everyone dress like Axl Rose. Not band members, just Axl.

My bro-in-law and I will be heading on down to Best Buy that Sunday morning.  I will have tears in my eyes as I grab my copies of the album inside the store.

I will drop off another copy for a buddy who is working that morning.  We will proceed to blast the fucking hell out of Chinese Democracy on the way back to my house!

We will have some drinks...it will be blissful to say the least.

I took the week off and bought a very large sony system yesterday just for this occasion.  300 watt  Amp, tuner, 2 tower speakers, and got a record player for the vinyl version.

Now I just have to find an awesome single disc CD player.

A week of drinking and Chinese Democracy.  The way I've been planning it for years.

Funny....I recently upgraded my system as well, just in preparation for the release.  JBL towers and bookshelves, Klipsch Ref sub....when I told my wife why I was buying new equipment she says....."you're buying new speakers for an album that isn't coming out just like 2006?".....haha, what a great day

time to open up the Tobermory 15.....yum yum

There is nothing like enhancing music with some quality weed, its amazing how you can just get swallowed up by the music and absorbed into it.

I havnt smoked since last xmas but I will be on the night of the release, its going to be so cool, going to have it on surround sound and kicking back in some comfy chairs.

Having a few freinds round, they are supplying the weed and I will be supplying the malt whisky - Springbank is my particular favourite, a good all rounder from Campbeltown. Its akin to Highland Park, but not so well known.

What would be really nice? If they could synchronise the worldwide iTunes releases and the fans worldwide could enjoy it for the first time together...they could achieve the same by having an online stream of the album a couple of days before the release.

I live a good hour drive away from a record store.

When I get off work on Saturday I will be driving to the city and staying there with my girlfreind (fun thing we do every few weeks). Pick up cd on the 23rd buy some booze, and crank it in the car on the way home. Pull the speakers out by the pool have some buddies come over. Play it all day long, at night I'll put on the headphones and really listen or pass out whatever comes first.

Drive back to Vegas
Get some Chinese Food for lunch.

Maybe I'll get a baby sitter one day and crack open a bottle of champaigne with my better half, but that'll be it.

Howdy,

I already planned a holiday at work for Monday the 24th, so i won't mind going away to someplace (london?) for the weekend to celebrate this joyous occasion!

So i was wondering if we, the fans, could have a celebration the sunday before it's release?

I remember back in lisboa in 2006 at the hard rock cafe (Jarmo, you still owe me a beer !!) or in london the night before the 2nd show.

What do you folks think?? Anyone in to arrange something??

I live in a shit hole place, so that wouldn't be cool...

And the next day we can all go to the same store to buy it!!!!
wouldn't that be cool, a bunch of gnr shirt wet with our tears when we have out ultimate gift from uncle Axl  :hihi:

I'm considering organizing something "pre-release"...like a Best Buy tailgate party type thing...depending on what BB release plans are.

I'm waiting to get more details (midnight release or not...probably not) before I start posting with details.  Probably do it at the West Hartford Best Buy as it's centrally located for all the CT residents and would make for a good "convergence" point.

I'm not even sure anyone would be interested.....

Big party at my house on November 23 (that's November 23, thanks for clarifying  :hihi:)

Many peeps coming over. Cracking open a bottle of Canadian Club whiskey that's been sealed since 1951 for this!

I am there.

You better have another bottle on hand just in case that bitch tastes like putrid skank shit. Seriously, I listen to a wine and liquor show and they say not all booze can last that long. It depends on how it is stored. Wouldn't want that party to be ruined if you open the bottle and start projectile vomiting.

Just get some back up in case.

The more the merrier!

I pretty much live on CC and I've had this quart from 1951 forever. What better time to bust it out?

I took the week off and bought a very large sony system yesterday just for this occasion.  300 watt  Amp, tuner, 2 tower speakers, and got a record player for the vinyl version.

Now I just have to find an awesome single disc CD player.

A week of drinking and Chinese Democracy.  The way I've been planning it for years.

Funny....I recently upgraded my system as well, just in preparation for the release.  JBL towers and bookshelves, Klipsch Ref sub....when I told my wife why I was buying new equipment she says....."you're buying new speakers for an album that isn't coming out just like 2006?".....haha, what a great day

time to open up the Tobermory 15.....yum yum

yeah, my lady wasn't too thrilled about all the extra stereo equipment in the apartment (I have an ungodly amount of guitar gear), but it's for an album I've been obsessing over for 14 years, she ended up getting over it.

By the time the new album arrives, my new business will hopefully run smoothly and I'll have enough time to sit somewhere and enjoy it all day long.

A few days later I'll host 2 big parties in Athens and Thessaloniki, hopefully the best ever!!!

Right now I'm enjoying the moment, as usual...

I've just cracked a nice icy cold Dr. Pepper (I'm working...so anything more illicit is out until my work day is done).

What are you all doing?

Just been out for a damn fine curry - always a great way to celebrate!   :D

Come the release, I fully intend to be "extremely self-indulgent" (to quote the great man himself) and have booked 3 days off work to immerse myself completely in the album's greatness.  Listening in a darkened room lit only by candles figures highly in my plans...

Buy the album, go home and listen. That's about it. But I think it's going to be the album I listen to the most for the next year or so!
